Hooray, spring is right around the corner! The weather was warm yesterday so I drove to work bumping my new favorite song, Usher’s Love in this Club, with all my windows down and the sunroof open. I’m guilty of dancing in my car and pretending it’s a club on wheels, ha! But if you roll with me I won’t charge you cover, promise. 😉
Anyway, yesterday I might’ve gotten a little too into car dancing because when I got to the parking lot and parked my car, I forgot to roll up the back windows…whoops. It was really no big deal, because the parking lot is safe so nothing got stolen, but a shady character managed to sneak into my back seat:
I opened the door and waited for him to crawl out, but homie sat there and just chilled for five more minutes. He gave me dirty looks the entire time, like I interrupted his afternoon meditation session. I lured him out by taking out a Chanel Glossimer lipgloss (in the shade Galactic, holla) and waving it around. He eventually sauntered away and wouldn’t even let me pet him. Sigh. At least he has good taste in lipgloss…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Cats always give dirty looks. It’s part of their charm. How funny that a lipgloss saved the day!
Glosslizard says
You know he was just waiting for you to pump up the tunes again! 🙂
Seriously though, big points to you for noticing him BEFORE you drove off! You’re so good to all those cats who take you for granted!
Laura says
Hi Karen. I just got braces yesterday and I need some serious lip gloss therapy. I was wondering if you have tried Shu Uemura lipglosses or lipsticks. If you have, can you tell me what the texture is like? And do you have a favorite color?
Tekoa says
What IS it with you and finding cats? He must have liked you in his kitty heart to crawl into your car.
Dao says
The cat is so cute! Is he the one you featured in this one blog that had a cat with a wig? I went to Target today to buy stuff but retard-get doesn’t carry the Sally Hansen you mentioned. But I’m fine, got myself a cute teddy bear and a Target brand eye makeup remover, touted as the best makeup remover under $5 by some blog that I don’t remember.
We’re done with the tornado yesterday, nothing came our way. It’s kind of strange to have tornado because Florida only has hurricanes!
Megan says
Karen…that’s hilarious…and I’m with Glosslizard…kitty would have likely came home with me…LOL I rarely check out the backseat…I generally just get in and go. I drive a club on wheels too…especially sometimes in the morning when I need to wakte up (I’m not a morning person). I get REALLY weird looks in the parking garage at work…and I’m thinking to myself…”What?” I love Usher’s new song too.. 🙂
Breezy says
oh heck no, that would NOT have flown with me since I am suuuuuper, ridiculously allergic to cats. I always think they have a plan to kill me too because they’re always coming around or sleeping under my car ugh!
Amanda says
OMGosh-how cute is he! I hope he found his way home…..I think cats actually *Do* like you, since they are always coming up to ya! 🙂 And all cats give every person dirty looks-because all people and dogs are “below” cats, in their own minds, haha.
Karen says
Hi The Smirking Cat,
Yeah, they’re always giving me dirty looks or “I’m hungry” looks! 😉
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
I almost did, ha! I wouldn’t have wanted to adopt him though, ‘cuz he was SO CRANKY!
Right after I took these pics I sent them to El Hub and he initially assumed that I went and adopted a stray cat out of the blue (which is totally my style).
Karen says
Hi Laura,
Congrats to you for taking that big step. I wore braces for a couple of years, too (both upper and lowers). You’ll be so happy when you are at the end of your treatment…your teeth will look great!
I do have some Shu lipglosses. 🙂 They are less sticky than MAC Lipglass and lightly pigmented, so they give a subtle touch of color and don’t dry out my lips (which happens to me with Lipglass). No weird taste or smell, either. The only thing is though I find myself reapplying a lot. I have several tubes at home, and I don’t remember the color names off the top of my head, so I’ll have to check when I get home from work. Are you looking for a particular shade?
BTW, another lipgloss I’d like to recommend is Clinique’s Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss. It’s very hydrating, in a handy dandy tube and has a subtle touch of color. When you’ve got braces, especially the metal kind, bright, shiny colors can draw attention to them. For ladies with the braces I recommend using subtle, natural colors for the lips (in both glosses and lipsticks) and then really playing up the eyes.

Don’t you love their personalties?? i swear you can tell what they’re thinking!
Jen says
Hey karen!! I’m a new reader of yours and I just want to say that I think you’re so funny and have a great sense of humor!!! this site is really fantastic and helpful and entertaining so keep up the good work!
Karen says
Hi Tekoa,
Hmmm, I dunno. He was awfully cranky and his kitty heart seemed cold, hard, and black to the core.
Or maybe I’m just bitter because he used my car to hang out in for a few hours and I didn’t even get to pet him in exchange!
Karen says
Hi Dao,
LOL, no, that other cat with the wig (that’s so strange to see those words in print) was gray, and her name was “Chicken”. Yes, I’m a weirdo.
Does your eye makeup remover take off waterproof makeup? I must look for this at Tar-ghay if it does.
Karen says
Hi Megan,
I’m *not* a morning person, either, so I’m always bumping music in the house, in the car, wherever to wake me up. When I pull into the parking lot at work I know that they always know it’s me because the music is either hip hop, reggae, or dance music and most of the time it’s something dirty, ha!
I’m so happy that Usher has returned from the land of the lost! For a while there I thought that Chris Brown was going to take over his territory over…
Laura says
I’m not really looking for a specific color. Just something moisturizing and subtle since I have a fair complexion… I like mac viva glam v but i dont really like the texture too much.
You recommended clinique l/g. Any color suggestions?
And what about other lip gloss brands you like?
Karen says
Hi Breezy,
My lil’ brother is super allergic, too. Cats don’t seem to stalk him, though. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Oh yah, he found his way. I think he lives nearby. He skulks around the parking lot at work…he usually chills on top of my car (on the hood or on the roof) and I guess couldn’t resist going inside. I can’t believe he got all up in my blanket (when it’s cold and I’m waiting for the car to warm up I wear that blanket while I’m driving), which totally cracked me up!
Karen says
Hey Brandi,
I’m pretty sure this cat is thinking that it loves my car but hates me, ha! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Jen!
Thanks girlfriend! So glad to meet ya 🙂 Are you a MAC addict like I am, or just love makeup in general?
Karen says
Hi Laura,
I *love* Clinique Superbalm in Grapefruit. It’s a very subtle pink (no sparkle) that is oh-so-moisturizing and doesn’t feel thick or tacky. I wore it when I was in Vegas a week or so ago, and it saved my lips from flaking like crazy.
As far as other lipglosses, I also like Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Rose. 🙂
Dao says
Hi Karen,
I don’t know if this eye makeup remover is that wonderful or not. It’s less than $4 which is cheap compared to “Take the day off” from Clinique that I have and love but it’s about to run out.
Holly says
Hi Karen,
You’re not alone, cats stalk me too, I think they know i dont really like them ( im a total dog person!) and enjoy making me squirm!
The cat from nextdoor has taken to sitting on my front door mat so when I leave the house at 7AM and it is still a bit dark he scares the living daylights out of me when I open the door and he springs up!
On a completely unrelated note, im finally getting a chance to go to Mac tomorrow yey! My list of things I want is far too long!!
Karen says
Hi Dao,
Ah, okay. Right now I’m using lancome which I love, too, but it’s pricey so I’m always looking for alternates.
Karen says
Hi Holly,
Fun! I hope they have everything on your list *crossing fingers*. Last night I went to the mall and hung out at a few counters and made a few additions to my list as well.:) I swear it’s growing exponentially!
Amanda says
Karen, sometimes I think we could be related….I have blanket in my car too…for the exact same reason you do-to wrap up in while I’m driving and the car is still cold! But hey, I live in CO-it’s cold here a lot.
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
CAR BLANKETS RULE! You’ll think I’m a wimp because it really doesn’t get *that* cold here in the Bay Area in grand scheme of things, but hey, tis cold to me! I wrap myself up in it, cocoon style and put my seatbelt on, and then ride dirty, LOL.
Mrs. Lynne, MakeupFix.net says
I hope there’s no dress code to watch you in concert in your car. I only have tank tops and cutoffs, lol.
But, I’d rather find a cat in my truck than bugs. On a couple of damned occasions, I’ve found a coachroach that snuck in. So gross and the trucks not dirty! It’s a 2007 with a monthly bathing routine. I’m sure you heard me screaming, lol.
Karen says
Mrs. Lynne,
EWWWWW! I hate those buggers. Although you know they’ll be here till eternity…
GROSS!
I miss wearing shorts and tank top, sigh!

we once had someone “drop off” their puppy in my fiance’s car when he accidentally left his windows open. i really wanted to keep him but our dog was none too happy about having competition. we found the orphan a good home, though.
Karen says
Hi Live Fabulously,
I would be tempted to keep that puppy too. When I was kid my dad would always bring home these random strange animals (birds, cats, dogs, rabbits) and unfortunately I have the same tendency.
What kind of dog do you have? I know cats get a lot of play on this site but I like dogs, too.
Ping. says
haha looks like you are attracting cat.. but i still like your pink pussycat hehe
TUPRNUT says
That’s crazy! I’m glad things this happen to people like you who are equipped to handle it! I’m not sure what I would do…. cats make me sneeze, itch and puff up.
Erin says
LOL that is the funniest thing… number one, I also pretend my car is a club on wheels (and that Usher song is bangin), number two, I love that that cat just chilled in your car!
Karen says
Hi Ping!
I don’t know what it is! I think the cats confuse me with one of their own. Or they just want me to feed them. Who knows? 🙂
Karen says
Hi Tuprnut,
Awww, that’s too bad! I react the same exact way to certain pollens, eeek. I am a walking allergy pharmacy, I swear…
How ya been?
Karen says
Hi Erin,
Is there cover charge to enter your club?? J/K! I am going dancing tonight, and I’m really hoping the DJ plays that Usher song. He’s been MIA for too long. 🙂
TUPRNUT says
Hey Karen!
Well, this girl’s been dealing with allergies in a BIG way lately. I’ve been fighting some sort of allergic reaction for the past two weeks – rashes ALL OVER my body, swollen lips and eyelids… I’ve been lookin’ good! So, I’ve been a shut in for the last little while.
I saw a specialist at the beginning of this week and it looks like I’m allergic to myself! Well, not exactly – but it’s some sort of auto-immune problem so my body is attacking itself and it’s coming up as rashes and such. A combo of the medications I’m on as well as taking a week off from makeup and my skin now looks great – better than it’s been in years!
So, that’s the long of how I’ve been… Sorry! But I’m getting better and my hubby and little girl have been super heroes and are taking great care of me. If anything, it’s given me amble time to get caught up on my beauty news…. thanks for keeping me entertained!
Karen says
Hi Tuprnut,
Oh no! I’m sorry that you’ve been feeling so bad. It sucks to have such bad allergies. I am glad they didn’t have to bust out the big old horse needle to give you a shot in the hip! That’s happened to me a few times and it awful!
Anyway, on the bright side at least your skin looks good (plus). And you have a wonderful family to take care of you (BIG PLUS!).
I hope your recovery is speedy and that you feel better soon. 🙂
Megan says
I feel for you Tuprnut…I have allergies and am on Zyrtec D year round. I got a cold and I was taking cold medicine that had a decongestant in it. I didn’t want to double up on the decongestants so I stopped taking the Zyrtec D for a couple days. I ended up breaking out in hives for 2 days straight when I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. My doctor then said that I’m probably allergic to something I’m regularly around or regularly eating but that the Zyrtec prevents me from breaking out from it. Great huh? Hives and rashes suck! 🙁
I hope you feel better…
TUPRNUT says
Thanks so much, Megan! Zyrtec is some great stuff… my doctor just took me off of that and switched me to something else that seems to be helping with the autoimmune problem. My dr said that if I wasn’t on Zyrtec during my initial reaction that I probably would have had a much more severe reaction and that it seemed to save me.
Thank God for current-day medicine, right? People like us would be so much worse off even just 20 years ago! If anything, I’m thankful for that.
Erin says
Hey karen- I went to the club last night and the DJ didn’t play the Usher song, I was bummed. I heard it on the way home tho, so my club on wheels was rockin!
Karen says
Hi Erin,
FUN! What kind of music was it, and more importantly, did you work it out? There were 3 DJ’s at the spot I went to last night, and the first two were terrible. There was a lot of bad mixing incorporated with weird blips and obnoxious sounds, ugh! I can dance to almost anything but I actually wanted to leave early, but thank goodness I stayed for the last DJ because he saved the evening. He played lots of 80s and 90s hip hop … so no Usher, boo, but it was still great.
Susanne says
Hi Karen! I am a HUGH fan of cats! I love they have their own characters and always do what they want to do 😉 The cat in your car looks similar to mine. Cats always show a good taste, don’t they?
Karen says
Hi Susanne,
Awww, you are so lucky to have a kitty! I am so jealous. For now I’ll have to be happy with being an auntie to all the neighborhood cats (and the ones that show up in my backseat, LOL!)
What is your cat’s name?
Susanne says
Oh, she has the German name “Purzel” (don’t worry if you can’t pronounce it!) 😉 This is a name just for animals. She’s a diva, but a lovely one!
I think cats enrich your life.
Karen says
Hi Susanne,
That’s a cute name! My American accent would probably mess it up the pronunciation pretty badly though, LOL. I think all cats are part diva, deep down inside. Maybe that’s why I like them so much 🙂
