What’s your current makeup brush storage situation?
Do you stick them in your favorite mug (the one that says “Crazy Cat Lady” on it), throw them in your makeup bag, or drop ’em in a box all willy-nilly? Or do you do something else?
For the longest time, I kept mine in this roll-up travel bag contraption with different compartments, and served me well for many, many years, but — SADNESS! — I guess I loved my brushes so hawd that a few of the compartments have holes in them. The bag is falling apart. 🙁
So I’ve been looking for a replacement, or another solution to this obviously pressing dilema, for a few months…
On a recent trip to Homegoods with my friend Marisol, Marisol picked up a desktop organizer similar to the Sheffield Home 6-Section Desktop Organizer ($19.99) pictured at the top, but she got it in black.
They’re kind of like a lazy susan for desktop accessories — ya know, pencils, pens and whatnot — but you can also use it as a makeup brush holder.
I didn’t get one that day because I wanted a different color to fit my office decor, but every time I’ve gone back to Homegoods since then I’ve looked specifically for that twirly thingamabob. I’ve seem it in brown, black, white and gray, and a different version where the carousel sides are shorter and more squat.
But then this past weekend I went and saw this mint green one, and I was like, “Yup! That’s it!”
I think the beauty in this thing is that you can separate your brushes in whatever way makes sense to you, whether it’s by brush function, shape, whether they’re clean or dirty, or how often you use them.
Oh, and it twirls, which is nice.
If you live by a Homegoods, keep an eye out for this bad boy. I found mine in the section where they have office furniture and supplies, but I’ve also seen it in the aisles near the big storage boxes and baskets by the bathroom items.
Let me know how you store your brushes in the comments. Bonus Q: Are your brushes currently clean or dirty? I’ve got a whole pile of dirty ones waiting to be washed.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

That’s a cute idea! I don’t have much counter space so I like mine to fit in the medicine cabinet (which is actually big enough to store my daily face stuff) and the only thing that will fit in there to store brushes are mason jars and some beakers I took from work (there are perks to working in a lab!)
And currently my brushes are dirty, but they’re pretty much always dirty!

I love that brush holder – it is pretty and functional! Right now, my brushes reside in an old mug. I’ve tried finding other containers for them, but I haven’t found anything that worked. There isn’t a Homegoods near me, but maybe I’ll try TJ Max this weekend to see if there’s anything similar.
And sadly, my brushes are dirty, but I’m planning on giving them a good cleaning this weekend.

I store them in my Hobby Lobby Spinning Tool Organizer (retails $49.99, but is currently $25) because it fits over 200 brushes. If I wasn’t a brush hoarder, I would use candle holders or small canisters to store them. The Hobby Lobby one is just easier for me because I can have all my brushes stored in one place rather than having multiple holders sitting on my vanity, which wastes alot of space. I have it in black, but they also sell in white. Mint would have been a nice color too!

I store mine in various sized glasses I pick up from goodwill. They look cute and I can sort by size and use. And Friday is brush washing night so they’ll be clean soon

I super love that thingamabob, and the fact that it’s in mint green is a bonus. Just got my new apartment today. This new do-hickey has been added to my ever growing list of must haves. I currently keep my brushes in a brush portfolio that I got from Sephora about two years ago, pictured here https://m.sephora.com/product/P395139
It’s kinda bulky for travel but it’s worth every penny. My brushes need a bath at the moment. Plan to pick up several of these merry-go-round essentials when I find them. Functional & cute is a win-win in my book ?

I currently have my brushes in: an Oakland A’s souvenir plastic cup, a “snowball” clear plastic cup with glitter and tiny watermelon slices that float in liquid when you shake it, and a ceramic cup made by my hubby when he took a pottery class. Quite an eclectic collection of containers, lol!
I love the organizer you found though, and I could use some of the compartments for my brushes and the others for eyeliners… Hmm that would work really well for me!

I love it! I have my brushes in an overflowing makeup bag and it’s getting a little out of hand! Def need to check out Home Goods!

Up until last year I had my brushes in a makeup bag. But then I “discovered” brushes! So since then I have a lovely teal opaque vase that has some small teal rocks in the bottom. They stand up beautifully in it as it really is wide.

I’ve seen those lazy Susan type holders in Homegoods. I had a similar one but I’m kinda a clean freak and my brushes were getting dust on them so now they’re housed in 2 separate plastic pencil cases.

So… Before I owned a lot of brushes… I use to just keep them in a cheapo pencil tin. However, now that I’ve built up a collection of brushes, I keep this and my makeup in a bamboo office organizer that I found from TJ Maxx. It’s cool because I can divide up face brushes and eye brushes (combined with eye cream shadow pencils, eye liners, mascara and brow gel, and the other compartments hold blush, bronzer, powders, etc. love love love!!!

Oh man, now I need to check out Home Goods sometime! My current situation is brushes stored in square glass jars for the ones I actually use, and the others are in a box, but this looks cute and practical.

I have a similar rose gold one that I got at Marshall’s! I love it 🙂 Mine is a little more “squatty” and I love how it fits allllll my brushes and even my beauty blender, sharpeners, eyelash combs, etc.

I keep my daily brushes in a brush roll and the rest – the back-ups – in a box.

I loved this so much I went to Homegoods and got one myself. Talk about luck, I thought it would take forever to find it if at all. It was like being drawn by a magnet. I walked in and straight to it. There was only one left but it was very pretty. The same color as yours except it had wood at the bottom. Really pretty!! And it looks so nice on the vanity. Thanks for the great idea!

I filled a glass container with brown rice and stick my brushes in that. They stay upright and don’t touch each other. Works perfectly but may not be compatible with cat households. 😉
