How are you doing, young lady? I hope something nice happened to you this week. I know we talk all the time in the comments, but I’m feeling extra chatty now, so I thought I’d say another hello.
Hello. 🙂
Have a seat. Let me pour you a cup of tea…
Hasn’t the week just flown by? For the most part it’s been a good one for me, with one minor major exception: I can’t find my Shu Uemura Lash Curler.
It’s true what they say — you don’t really know how much you love something until it’s gone (and you completely lose your sh*t).
It wasn’t in its usual place when I went to do my makeup on Tuesday morning. I looked everywhere for it, tearing through the house, panic rising in me with each passing second until BAM! I realized how silly I was being.
Had I lost touch with reality? Was I becoming Ronnie and Sam? It’s just an eyelash curler, after all.
Right?
I remind myself that there are other curlers out there. Shu isn’t the only one. In fact, I have one from Sephora that I keep for “emergencies,” but it doesn’t compare to Shu.
The curlers got a lot tougher to find in stores after the company pulled out of the U.S. last year, and I’m more likely to grow fangs than find a new one anytime soon.
I know I can still get one online, but I miss the days when they carried them at Sephora.
Has the loss of a beauty product ever broken your heart? Details, friend. Details.
You must do the thing you think you cannot do
The quote in the pic at the top of this post is from Eleanor Roosevelt; I came across it in a tweet earlier this week (I wonder what Eleanor would have thought of Twitter). Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that you’re capable of doing big things, you know?
In other news, I missed a birthday last week, and I only realized it today. MBB turned four years old last week. Can you believe it? We’ve been together since 2007. That’s…FOUR YEARS (64 in Internet time)!
I don’t say this nearly enough, but thank you. 🙂 Back when I wrote that very first post, I never imagined I’d still be blogging (and enjoying it) four years later.
Swatching MAC Fafi in 2008
I feel lucky and blessed that you choose to spend some of your time with me, and here’s to another four years! (*raises cup*)
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Michelle says
Happy Blogiversary! You have such an amazing sense of humor that makes your beauty blog unique and so fun 🙂
The other day I lost my Subculture lipliner (brand new). I was freaking out. I use that sucker every day. My husband was like “seriously?!?” Don’t get between a girl and her stand by beauty products!
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
Thank you. 🙂 I’m happy to hear you tried Subculture but bummed to hear you lost it! What do you think of the color?
Michelle says
I ended up finding it . . . in with my jewelery (what in the world?!?). I love it — my all time fave!
Now I just need to try out that eye lash curler . . .
Karen says
Maybe I should check mine, LOL!
Heidi says
Happy AnniBlogaversary, Karen! Thanks to you and Tabs for making this the most fun, loving, and warm blog on the internet that ends up being about so much more than makeup and beauty. It really feels like a family when I come here.
Oh, and as for a lost, lamented beauty item…. you don’t want to even know the drama that ensued when I lost my NARS Orgasm lip gloss right after purchasing it! It wasn’t pretty!
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
🙂 Seriously, it’s all Tabs. You know he runs the show and that I’m merely a vessel for his plans for world domination, right?
BTW… did you ever find your NARS gloss?
AtelierGal says
Happy Blogiversary!
Karen says
Thank you! 🙂
Rae says
Aww, happy fourth blogiversary, Karen! You’ve come so far : o ) I still remember laughing out loud when that Fafi post was first published (though I think in those days, I was still too shy to comment…) Such dedication!
I’ve never lost a beauty product (at least, as far as I’m aware of), but I can still feel your pain! Hope your Shu curler turns up soon 😉
P.S. What kind of tea is that? It looks delish!
Karen says
Hi Rae,
It’s a rooibos tea called “Get Happy” by The Republic of Tea. Here’s a link: Get Happy Tea.
I’m so glad you decided to start commenting. It’s been great getting to know you!
Rae says
It’s rooibos?! *cries happy tears*
I’m glad I did, too! The internet would be a much sadder (okay, perhaps just much serious-er) place without my incessant rambling 😛
Karen says
Yes! I take it you like rooibos, LOL! I love it too.
Paris B says
Erm… I lost a lipstick not too long ago. It fell from my dresser (I watched it) and rolled under (I followed it) but I can’t find it to this day. I think the pixies took it – just as they took your lash curler 🙂 Happy Blogiversary Karen. I’ll be around for your next 4… and then 4 after that 😉
Karen says
I’m starting to think the pixies took my lash curler (or they’re in cahoots with Tabs!). 🙂
Thanks for reading, Paris. You’re a joy to know!
Maria says
I, too, cannot live without my Shu Uemura eyelash curler. I ordered three (just to get the free shipping because I am too cheap to pay for it) in gold when they were available during the holidays. I gave one away as a stocking stuffer, and I am now regretting that one simple act of generosity. Do you know why they decided to pull from the U.S. market?
Karen says
I can’t remember the exact reason, but I suspect it was a sales or distribution issue.
Good idea to order in threes. I think I have to order at least that many from the website! It really is the best.
Aida says
I keep on losing things all the time, I miss them, sometimes they come back to me, sometimes not. Finding your blog was great. I love your posts, swatches, cat and sense of humour. Happy 4 years, keep on writing and thanks for your time and effort
Karen says
Thank you for reading and taking the time out of your day to comment, Aida! 🙂
Andrea says
Congratulations on the anniversary! I started reading your blog in 2009 I believe, and I love it. You’re such a talented, funny writer and seem like a genuinely great person!
Hmm I don’t think I’ve ever actually lost a beauty product permanently, which is lucky! 🙂
Oh, I also wanted to ask for your recommendations on shops/independent boutiques in San Francisco as I’ll be going there for the first time in May! I am really excited to shop and eat there, and would love to get your opinion on which shops (or even restaurants) are musts!
Thank you so much! You’re great!
Karen says
Hi Andrea,

Union Street! Man, that’s the best MAC PRO store ever.
Errr, right, Happy Blogging Anniversary. You write so well babe 🙂 It’s evident you enjoy writing as much as we enjoy reading your posts. There’s so much creativity going into it.
I hope you will keep blogging (despite my wallet protesting).
Karen says
Aww… you know your wallet loves it, Fieran! 😉
Ashley says
Oh man.. I go ape sh*t when I lose something! I turn into this monster tornado & I leave each room in rubble. I hope you find your lash curler ASAP. Most importantly, I hope you find it in one piece!
Ashley says
How did I forget to type “HAPPY BLOG ANNIVERSARY”??
I’ve been a committed MBB-reader for 3 years. I can’t believe I missed out on the first year though!
Karen says
Thank you Ashley! 🙂
Karen says
I hope I find it one piece too! I have a sneaking suspicion that Tabs is behind the disappearance.
izzie says
Bon blogiversaire!!! I love how up to date you keep me on everything and tabs is adorable. I recently had a few beauty-related freak-outs. One was when I couldn’t find my MAC brow pencil in lingering. I was bitten in the face by a dog when I was younger and have a lovely scar that keeps my eyebrow hair from growing in one spot. Not sexy. Needless to say a giant freak-out occurred and I’m pretty sure my fiance is still staying 10 ft away for safety. And the second freak-out wasn’t so much a loss as it was my great dane getting bored, wandering into my guest bedroom/makeup studio and eating my friggin brush that came with my hoola bronzer. I was not a happy doggy-mommy.
Karen says
Izzie, I’m the same way when it comes to brow stuff. Once I lost my pan of MAC Concrete on a trip (I use the 266 angled brush to apply it) and was like, “We need to find a MAC counter, STAT!”
Tavi says
congrats karen! keep up the good work, your blog is fabulous 🙂
Karen says
Thanks for reading, Tavi! 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!
gio says
Happy Blog Anniversary! Here’s to many more! 🙂
Karen says
Thank you Gio! 🙂
Stephanie/Yukaeshi says
Karen, you are where you are today mainly because of your passion and commitment, and it’s shared and supported by those who have the same passion and commitment 🙂 MBB is one of my all-time favourite makeup and beauty blog (Pun intended) and I spent countless hours reading all the way up to your first post when I stumbled upon MBB last year. I really enjoy it 😀
Here’s to more of Karen, and more of MBB! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Stephanie,
This was such a sweet note! Thank you. 🙂 Have a wonderful Friday!
Gaelle says
Joyeux anniversaire !
& I love your blog
Karen says
Thanks Gaelle! 🙂
Nikolas says
Karen Gorgeous!!! I’m so excited for you and Tabs!!! Happy Fourth Birthday to Makeup and Beauty Blog<3333 When I was reading about the loss of your dear eyelash curler, I imagine Sinead O'Connor singing Nothing Compares to SHU. Hahahahaha I have lost many a beloved beauty product in the past- from MAC's Sketch Eyeshadow to my favorite YSL Rouge Volupte. It kinda forces me to think long and hard about bringing too many products with me when I leave the house lol… Anywayyyyyy CONGRATS on your 4th year, and MANY MANY MANY more!!!!! Hugs and smooches to Tabs :]
Karen says
I was actually running around singing the exact same song, haha! 🙂
Thank you for reading the site and always being so supportive! One of these days I’ll get you in hot pink matte lipstick… it WILL happen.
Dao says
Happy Bloggiversary, Karen and Tabs! You guys have been my inspirations! Keep on rocking, girlfriend and kitty-friend!
Karen says
Thank you Dao! It’s been great getting to know you!
Advah says
Happy birthday! I’ll never say enough how much I love reading your posts, so thanks to you too! 🙂 🙂
Karen says
Thank you Advah! Big hugs from both me and Tabs!
Tiffany says
Happy birthday to MBB! I don’t know what I would do without my favorite blog!!
I hope you find your curler soon 🙁 I hate when I can’t find things I know I have. I “lose” lip products all the time, but usually end up finding them in a purse or my work bag.
Karen says
Thank you Tiffany!
Okay, funny you should mention that, because one of the first places I checked was my purse, LOL! That’s where I usually find missing makeup stuff (no dice, though). 🙂
kirsty says
Happy blogaversary!
Your blog has always been a joy to read since I found it in 2009. Your personality and sense of humour really shine through each and every post and you seem like such a wonderful person!
Karen says
Thanks Kirsty. 🙂 I really hope we all get to stick together for another four!
Cassie says
Congrats on 4 years of bloggin! I’ve just started so hopefully I’ll be going as strong 4 years on like you! *raises glass in toast*
I heard the new Chanel eyelash curler is as good as Shu, if not better, so maybe invest in a different brand this time? If you do, I’d love a review on it! I’ve just realised how great eyelash curlers are, even though I’m using the Revlon one, which I was told were the best of the drugstore bunches. I’m definitely considering getting a top end one now though, but unsure which would suit my eye shape the best. (The Revlon one pinched my outer lid).
Anyway, congrats again, Karen! 😀
Karen says
I think I used the Revlon one ages ago (like high school) and remember liking it. I’ll check that Chanel one out! 🙂
Shasha says
Hey lady, Ooh tea *sipping, enjoying, feeling quite at home*
It is true that searching the whole house for a beauty item you love and letting the outcome of the search either ruin or make your day is pretty silly. On another note, I know that if I can’t find something, I must find it. No “maybe it’ll turn up”. No. It has to be found, even though it works better the other way around. So I definitely get it.
*sips again* You know, I do actually go all Sammie when I’m looking for something I can’t find. “This is NAW owkhay. Nahwt… owkhay” Or even Ron comes up. “I’m DONE! DONE! Done I tell you!!!” The last sentence was more Stewie, but whatev’!
Happy Birthday MBB, :D. Off to another 16 internet years! Or plain next year in the real world…
Hugs and all
Karen says
LOL, Sasha! Did you watch Jersey Shore last night? It’s only a matter of time before those two get together again. When will they ever learn?!?
And thank you for the blog birthday wishes! It means a lot. 🙂
Adria says
Happy Blog Berfday!!! Eres muy awesome! (Or is it “tienes muy awesome”?)
Gurl, you know what happened to your eyelash curler, don’t you? Tabs packed it in his luggage for his next modeling gig…how much you wanna bet? What a diva…or “divo” I guess, since he is a male. Whip it good!!
Karen says
I have a feeling that’s what really went down. 😉 Once he gets obsessed with a product he gets all greedy, LOL!
Le sigh… the troubles that come with living with an international kitty model…
Kim says
Congratulations, Karen! 4 years is awesome and we should really all be thanking YOU. Great beauty reviews, your excellent sense of humor AND so many fun references to TV, music, movies and, of course, kitties. Who could live without MBB??!! Whoever they are, I don’t want to meet them! 🙂
Oh, and I hate to throw Tabs under the bus about the Shu, but you might want to try a little gravy-for-curler exchange. Just sayin’. 🙂
Karen says
I have a feeling he might have something to do with it. He DOES have a penchant for stealing things. I still can’t find my MAC Lucky Tom palette, dagnabbit!
Lisa says
Happy Bloggiversary! I am still in awe of your Wonder Woman post and anxiously await the sequel. I read your blog every day and feel as if you and Tabs are a part of the family. You have guided me away from impulse purchases and steered me into some fabulous products. So for that I thank you and here’s to another 4….!
On a side note: I lost my Le Metier eyeliner pen (if you know how tiny that thing is) and totally tore apart my 2 makeup carts looking for the darn thing and found it a day later underneath my tv stand in my makeup room. I thought I had LOST MY FREAKIN MIND!!!!! My Shu curler is on it’s last leg and I will have to order another soon. I know they are feeling the pain in their wallets from the lost of the US sales. They HAVE to! It was a huge mistake to pull completely out. They could still at least sell the curler through Sephora or beauty.com. I mean c’mon! They simply cannot stand idle while American women run around with straight or crooked lashes. It’s inhumane!!!!
Karen says
Hi Lisa,
I felt the exact same way when I was tearing through the house looking for that curler! Seriously… why bother to get American women hooked on this dream device and then just up and leave? So cruel!
Ruchita says
Congrats and happy b-day to MBB!
I hope you find your lash curler soon! I am considering buying another one to keep as a back-up. Usually when I lose something, I stop looking for it and then it seems to turn up on it’s own. I’ll send out some positive vibes for a happy reunion. 🙂
Karen says
Thanks Ruchita!
I highly recommend getting a backup. Looks like I learned my lesson, LOL!
NeenaJ says
Congrats on four years! Your blog is so lovely and personal, bringing readers inspiration everyday – one of my favorites.
Karen says
Thanks Neena. 🙂 It’s been fun getting to know you and all the readers here!
Nina says
happy 4 years, and here’s to more!
it really sucks that no stores sell shu anymore! my shu broke down (read: needed pads and cannot justlfiy 7 dollar shipping for them) so i switched over to the shiseido eyelash curler.
it works. but it aint shu! 🙂
Karen says
I’ve heard that’s a pretty good replacement… but nothing compares to Shu. 😉
Nina says
i totally agree w/ you, Karen aka Sinead! 😛
Sherry says
Aw happy blogiversary Karen! What I want to know is how did you get your blog to grow and gain some much interaction from your users? Did you have a really good SEO guy for your blog? Did you just keep posting and advertising your blog on diffrent forums? I’m so amazed at how some people can really take a blog and make it so big. You are an inspiration 🙂
By the way..I finally gave in and bought Chanel’s Matte Lumiere Foundation–It was the same one I used for my wedding last June. You are completely right–nothing compares! You only have to use a little bit so hopefully the bottle will last a long time. I’m absolutely loving it!
Take care,
Sherry

I’m like so excited that you’ve been doing this for four years. As a new-ish reader, your blog is one of my favorite things on the internet!
Karen says
Thanks, Vijaya. How did your last midterm go?
Emily says
Karen, 4 years WOW, that is awesome, Congratulations! I have learned so many things from you & look forward to reading your blog everyday. You have turned me from a plain jane into a makeup-a-holic! I lost my Shu Uemura recently too. Replaced it with the Tarte one, I would definitely recommend it.
Have a great weekend and thank you for your awesome blog!
Karen says
Hi Emily,
You have a great weekend too! 🙂
P.S. Did you ever find out what happened to your Shu curler?
Holly says
Congratulations and happiest of birthdays for 4 years! I’ve only been reading for the last year, but I don’t miss a post! If I’ve got a question about a brand or color I’m considering, I can always find it one of your older posts. You’re a delight to read–I can hear your voice come through clear in anything you write.
I do have a suspicion to voice since I don’t comment often–is your mysterious NW20 friend that lends an arm sometimes El Hub? Just a thought…
Congrats to a great blog, Karen!
Karen says
Hi Holly,
Thank you for reading! It makes me happy to hear that you find the site useful. As for the mysterious arm… I’ll have to take a page from Tabs’ book and state that I can neither confirm or deny if that arm belongs to El Hub, LOL!
Liz says
Happy blogiversary! We all can tell you really enjoy blogging and talking with us and it’s really nice. I feel as though a lot of bloggers do it for the perks, or you can tell they don’t really enjoy it like you do. You’re always the best, and I look forward to reading your posts daily.
I know you like tea a lot, and I do too. I worked at a very busy tea shop on Michigan Avenue in Chicago for just over 2 years while in college. Though very trying at points, I actually did enjoy it (and not to mention, lots of celebs came in ALL the time!) and learned to love good and care about quality tea. I particularly love any coconut tea!
– Liz
Karen says
Hi Liz,
Thank you for this nice note. 🙂 You made my morning!
So I’m curious about this coconut tea. I’ve never had it before… do they make it out of dried coconuts?
Liz says
Yes! They put little pieces of dried coconut in with whatever else they put in that tea. I usually only brew loose leaf tea, so you can even take out the little pieces of coconut and eat them! It’s almost the best part.
Most of the coconut teas I have had are herbal (my favorite is Mote Beach Tea from Sarasota Florida. It also has apple, and pineapple. SO good! This specific tea helps a marine laboratory that helps rehabilitate sea turtles. http://www.siplocally.com..Tell Tabs!) usually with hibiscus and other fruity flavors. I recently came across a coconut white tea, but the store wasn’t open for me to purchase. I was so bummed. You should get your paws on some coconut tea!
– Liz
Silva says
Happy birthday 😀 wow, 4 years is indeed a long time.
I hope you find your curler soon! I hate it when I can’t find something.
Karen says
Thanks Silva. 🙂 Have a wonderful Friday!
Dijana says
that is strange bc i work in Sephora here in Toronto and we still have them… i guess we are just selling the stock we had from before
Karen says
They’re really hard to find now… and the Sephora online store no longer carries them, boo. 🙁
Nikki says
Happy Birthday!!!! Cheers to 40 more years? 😀 😀 😀
Karen says
That would be awesome. 🙂 Thanks Nikki!
Kerry says
Happy blogiversary! I hope you find your Shu soon. <3
Karen says
Thanks, Kerry! I hope I find it too. 🙂
Eileen says
Happy anniversary, Karen! I’ve only been with you two years, but you quickly became one of my daily reads. Your great humor and Tab’s antics are a delightful way to start the day.
Your blog is a nice mix of low and high end products and you always seem to take into consideration the brand’s intended demographic and marketing image. That openness and one size does not fit all approach is reflected in your candid and often funny reviews. I also like how you vary your make-up/fashion looks. Those “looks” you did when Rouge Coco was first introduced were genius!
Once again, congratulations on your fourth anniversary 🙂
Vicki says
Happy anniversary to MBB. I love reading this blog, Karen your writing style and sense of humour make it a must read! I have bought several things after reading about them on here. And Tabs rocks!
I lost a foundation brush, I am not especially attached to it but for the life of me I can’t think where I put it, it’s bugging me! Hope you find your curlers.
Tekoa says
I do not own an eyelash curler nor have I ever owned such an object. You can’t miss what you’ve never had I guess. I did misplace one thing that drove me to distraction though, my wedding ring. (universal gasp). I went pacing about the house with a vexed expression and forehead wrinkles until it was discovered it under the stairs. I blame the siamese. She has a habit of picking up rings in her mouth and running away with them. Maybe Tabs hid the eyelash curler?
Tracy says
When I lose something, it’s not really lost-it just means my daughter took it!
Happy Anniversary Karen!
Appu says
Happy Blog Anniversary to my favourite blog!!! I love this place and Tabs makes it all the more fun 🙂 I hope you find the eyelash curler soon. I once thought I lost my MAC See Sheer lipstick but found it under my bed. You never know! 🙂

Happy anniversary Karen!
I remember the Fafi Swatch mission like it was yesterday. Where did time fly to?
leo says
whee!! happy blogversary, Karen!!
hmmm… I’d check and see whether Tabs’ whiskers are curlier than usual. You never know what can be found in a cat’s den… 😉
PS: did you get my mail?
Rachel says
Congrats Karen! Can”t believe it took me so long to find this blog!
Denise says
Happy Anniversary!!! 🙂
I hope you find your Shu Uemura Lash Curler, I sadly lost mine too and life has not been the same without it. 🙁

Happy MBB anniversary!!! I remember my surprise to find your blog when you just started and to realize it was you! 🙂 I make sure its one of my daily reads and love how I can relate to your “back in the day” posts. Awesome job and keep em coming!!

Happy Bloggiversary Karen! Love MBB 🙂

Happy anniversary! I totally remember that Fafi post, I was dying for swatches! LOL! *Raises a glass* Here’s to you! 🙂
I had two horrible mishaps, both with Chanel! I lost a Teint Innocence compact and (a separate event) a Red Shine Glossimer right after buying them! So. Tragic. I blame makeup gremlins.
Jenna says
Happy Anniversary! I hope you find you’re curler soon <3,
Jenna

Happy 4th MBB!!! 🙂 🙂

I feel your pain! I am addicted to curling my lashes. I cant believe that I missed doing this for the first 30 years of my life.
Speaking of lashes, have you ever considered getting false lashes or lash extensions? My salon recently started doing Lavish Lashes, which are extensions. I really want to get them done but I am a bit scared to do it. I sleep with an eye mask on and apparently you cant with the extensions. I was just wondering if its something you have heard anything about?
Inday says
HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY Karen! I don’t know what I’d do without my daily dose of MBB – where else can I find MAC swatches, drugstore finds, great 80’s music, Bay references, and mention of So-en panties all in one place?! With a fabulous kitty model to boot!
Much love to you for making the web a prettier, brighter, funnier place <3
Fabienne (mermadelove) says
Happy Anniversary!!!!! And thank you for posting where you can get one of these famous eyelash curlers….. Now I am going to have to get one……..
Grace says
Congratulations, Karen! I appreciate your hard work so much, and couldn’t imagine my daily life without a bit of you and Tabs in it!
Kate & Zena says
Happy blogiversary!
Y’know, I think Tabs and Zena are conspiring again. I can’t find my silver version of the Zad leopard ring! I had it one day and the next day it’s like, poof!, it’s gone! I love that ring! Zena knows I love that ring. I wear it everywhere. Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! I got for Christmas this year from my aunt. I mean, I could order it, but that takes all the sentimentality out of it! Where’s my ring?!
D says
I check your blog daily. You’re one of my favorites! Or maybe the favorite. Anywho, I realized I never checked out your old articles before, but I started to yesterday! I love your reviews and swatches, and I love cats, too, so that makes it 100000000x better!! 🙂
Sylvie says
Wow I can’t believe it’s been four years! I still check you out everyday, even though I comment a lot less than I used to. Anyway, congratulations and here’s to many more years!
Jenn says
I recently lost one of my favorite MAC shadow brushes. Looked for it until I was pulling my hair out, LOL. Thought I might have accidentally thrown it out- horrors!- with a handful of tissues and Q-tips after a marathon makeup session. Then, a few weeks ago as I was cleaning up my 9 year old’s science project reminents in the garage, I found it!! He had used it as a paintbrush to paint his ocean diarama. Yikes! Needless to say, we had a long, firm discussion about how Mommy’s makeup brushes are expensive and for her face only, not for painting shoeboxes! Boys just don’t “get” our toys! 🙂
Kate & Zena says
Ooh, ouch. Actually, if I may interject on behalf of your son, makeup brushes (especially MAC ones) started out as paint brushes. MAC brushes were originally Loew-Cornell paint brushes which is why there are so many similarities between the two brush companies (especially the LC mop brushes and the MAC fluffy eye brushes). Those who love longer and thinner handles and a cheaper price but still like natural hair normally go to Loew-Cornell brushes(Loew-Cornell’s, believe it or not, generally are softer than MAC brushes).
If you haven’t thrown away your brush yet, you can save it. Take a plate and grab some Dawn and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Put a quarter amount of Dawn on one side and the same amount of EVOO on the other. Swirl the two together and massage the mixture into brush by moving the brush back and forth NOT swirling the brush. Wash out the mixture in lukewarm water, shape the brush’s bristle shape gently with your fingers and let it dry on a towel overnight. Dawn & EVOO will get rid of just about any sort of paint (tempera, watercolor, and oil especially). You can use this combo to clean your makeup brushes from makeup too; Dawn gets rid of the makeup and EVOO moisturizes your bristles (especially those that are animal haired! Dry bristles won’t pick up as much product, blend as well and break!).
Kate & Zena says
Although, that did not give your son the right to use your makeup brushes. I just thought I would give you some history.
Beth says
I have a Shu, and I’m wondering if anyone replaces the actual curler? The Shu website says:
“the shu uemura eyelash curler will perform consistently until the 2 silicone rubber pads wear down. with daily use, one silicone rubber pad will last approximately 3 months. after the accompanying refill is used, please replace the curler with a new one to assure maximum precision and to avoid damage to the eyes or the lashes. Please note replacement pads are not available for purchase.”
I’ve had my Shu for about a year now, and I have a hard time comparing its current performance to what I experienced when I first bought it. It seems like such a waste to throw it out after 6 months!
Sylvie says
Oh god the horror! I really hope that you could salvage the brush and that he didn’t use some impossible-to-wash off kind of paint. I protect my brushes WITH MY LIFE!
Yolanda says
happy anniversary!… love reading your blogs… hey. its free shiiping on all orders @ shu eumura’s website until mar 6th… i just placed an order… don’t want to go nuts in case i lose Shu curler… so i ordered for backup… heehee…

Glad to know I’m not strange! I can’t find my Tweezerman tweezers. Those suckers are flourescent pink…”WHERE R U???” Happy anniversary Karen!

happy blog-birthday, 🙂 (and yes, we will and do still love you, when you’re sixty-four~~ 🙂 🙂 🙂 )
this week has been DRAINING, pounding away for nearly twelve hrs at my desk every day, >__<, BUT IT'S THE WEEKEND, WHOOHOO!!!
to this day, i have been unable to find my favorite lip brush, and like your shu curler, it was "just" a beauty tool, but it was so much more than "just" a beauty tool…it had a perfectly tapered tip, delicate flexibility with enough strength to create a beautiful line…AND it was gorgeous, a deep ruby-red case with a gold gilt flower pattern. it was a vintage gift from one of the most stylish women i know, and i still haven't given up hope that it's SOMEWHERE in my room….

Hi. First time posting. I have been following your blog in the shadows for a while. I figured I should step out and say hi and post a comment once in a while. I also want you to know that I also adore your relation with Tabs and the posted pics of him. So cute! (I’m a crazy cat lady myself. I have a cat that I absolutely would go above and beyond for her 😀 )
Anyway, I have been using Shu’s lash curler and they are the best for my eye shaped (I’m Asian btw) Currently, Shu has a free shipping offer going on. The promo code if FSHIPPING. It’s good until Sunday March 6 by 11:59 EST. I order for myself a couple of their new sakura lipsticks. I have been eying them for a while so I can’t wait to try them.

Happy Anniversary Karen! Thanks for always being super entertaining. And I hope you find your curler!
I also miss the days of Shu at Sephora…I totally bought 3 curlers before they were gone. Psycho, but whatever.
