Hi, beautiful! I can’t stop smiling because it’s a three-day weekend. ? Monday is Labor Day here in the U.S., and I’m so excited about having an extra day to chill (even though we’re in the midst of a heatwave). I hope you have a nice, long weekend, too.
I have this theory that if every weekend was a three-day weekend, people would be sooo much happier. I know I’d be. I’d be dancing in the streets! Actually, dancing everywhere, who am I kidding?
It was 80 degrees at 9 a.m. today, and it’s supposed to hit 106 this afternoon. That’s crazy hot, man. I don’t know what we’re gonna do, but we’ll have to get out of the house soon. Today is one of those days when not having air conditioning is inconvenient.
I know this is nothing compared to Hurricane Harvey, but still… Pretty hot.
Maybe we’ll go to the mall later. Or go to Cheesecake Factory and have a three-hour lunch, which I was actually thinking about doing.
I wish I could do some lazy surfing at an easy beach somewhere. That would be fun. I do have a wet suit and booties… No surfboard, though. I’d have to rent or borrow one because I sold mine a while back. I know, sad face. 🙁 But let’s get real. Even with temps in the triple digits, there’s still no way I’m getting in the water here. It’s too cold for me.
Now, the water at the pool? Maybe…
What are you up to this weekend? I’ve got some new links for you to wet your weekend reading whistle.

- Cute colors! All of the polishes in the Dr. Dana clean beauty nail line are also 9-free.
- Why, yes, wine wipes for your teeth are totally a thing.
- Gross… Here’s why you should keep the overhead vent running on your next flight.

This hair color reacts to heat, SO COOL!
I’ve been listening to this on repeat…
Have a spectacular Saturday, my friend! Say hi if you get a chance.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Where do you live? It’s FREEZING here in Northeast PA!

If you really want to be freaked out, think about what electric hand dryers do. My friend works for NIH and refuses to use them because they just blow germs around! Hope you and Tabs stay cool this weekend!
LC says
Reup that caffeine, sis! That Thrillist article is about how running the overhead vents decreases the grossness in your breathing neighborhood.
Karen says
Sorry, LC. Thanks for the catch. Affirmative on the more caffeine.

Its a holiday weekend here in Canada, too 🙂 Happy Labour Day Weekend! (Spelled with a U because that’s what we do!) I have been reading your blog since you started but rarely ever comment because I never know what to say and I am very insecure about that. But today I decided to bite the bullet and say HELLO! I am a crazy cat lady as well (I have six, two of which are grey tabbies). Enjoy the long weekend!
Karen says
Hi Erin,
Thank you for reading the blog this whole time. I’m so glad you decided to pop in and say hi! Sorry it took me a while to write back, but I’ve been mostly out of the house and away from my computer because we had an epic heat wave here in Northern California and I’ve been spending most of my time in air conditioned spaces outside my house. Ya gotta do what you gotta do! Please don’t ever feel shy to say hi or chat about whatever. All the ladies (and handful of gents) here are very nice and welcoming. I’m kind of jelly — ok, really jealous! — that you have six cats, OMG! You’re living my dream. What are their names? And how long have they been with you?
Have a great rest of your Monday and chat soon!

Well, since you asked *beams like a proud parent* I have three boys – Kobe, Gabby, and Simba, and three girls – Beebs, Emma Lou, and Ellie Mae. Ellie is a tortie and is the sweetest out of the bunch. Beebs and Simba are grey tabbies. Gabby is an orange tabby. Emma and Kobe are cousins – they are both white and grey, but Kobe has the coolest icy blue eyes. Kobe is the oldest, I think he is about 7, all the rest are younger but I can’t remember exact ages. Millie, who was my bestest friend in the world passed away last summer at 19 years of age, but she was the boss of the house when she was alive! 🙂 And you are living MY dream – having a child. I am 40 and have had no luck in that department. Congrats on becoming a parent! I know its the hardest and yet most rewarding job in the world. I was a preschool teacher for 15 years, if you ever need help or suggestions, just ask!

I hope you survived Saturday’s temps. I see it’s still hot up your way. We’re only going to be in the 90s today. I hear SF is predicted to be 80, maybe you could take Connor on a excursion to SF to escape the heat.
We went to see The Hitman’s Bodyguard yesterday. Totally brainless movie which required absolutely no thought on the viewers part except that Ryan Reynolds can be rather cute, Salma Hayek is a great actress and beautiful to boot and Samuel L. Jackson is just hilarious and fabulous in all his roles.
Karen says
What did you guys do in SF? We had plans to go but ditched them at the last minute because we didn’t want to deal with heat in the city. Figured we could just as easily find an air conditioned mall here and be home easily if the baby got crabby.

Never ended up in SF. Went to local Apple store to look at a new laptop for me and ended up playing with the watches and iPads. Then drove up to San Bruno to feed Dear Daughter’s kitty while she’s in FL for a wedding.
Finished watching this unsettling Australian TV show called “The Kettering Incident”.

I have a friend who has an Apple watch and loves it. Are you thinking about getting one? I kinda want one but don’t because I’ve been feeling extra nostalgic lately for pre-cell phone times. *digs out old pager*
Just googled that show and it looks scary.

3 day weekends are a MUST! My company recently did a major overhaul, all for the better, and I ended up with 3 day weekends. I can’t love this any more!! I’m very happy. Society is so backwards, it’s all about how to make people work harder and have less time off. EFF THAT. We need to change that. Being a full time Mom with a full time job (cuz let’s be honest, just because you work doesn’t mean you’re not a full time Mom, seriously, my family -husband included- would go to shit without me) 3 days is my saving grace and sanity.
