I really freaking love doing skin.
Is that boring?
It might be, but it’s true. I think my greatest makeup/beauty passions right now are foundation and concealer, which I’ve gotten VERY passionate about, and it’s mostly gotten to this point over the past two years, because for the longest time, foundation was more like an afterthought for me. Just something I did after doing the real work on my eyes, cheeks and lips, a.k.a. the color.
Now I’m obsessed with finding ALL. THE. WAYS. to get perfect-looking skin that don’t involve using 300 pounds of makeup.
It’s challenging, dude!
Maybe it happened after I had Connor at 41, but I swear to gawd, that first year of mom life was like a dog year. It felt like seven years passing over the course of 12 months. I’m not kidding!
But yeah, I’m really, REALLY passionate about foundation now, and this realization occurred to me the other day after someone asked me what my favorite foundation is, and I couldn’t give a one-word answer. Clackin’ away at the keyboard, I kept thinking, “I could talk about this for weeks.”
I want to learn everything there is to know about foundation. Like, if I had unlimited resources ($), girl, you know what I’d do? I’d review every single foundation in the world just to be able to try them. Then I’d arrange for personal makeup lessons with Sir John, Charlotte Tilbury and Pat McGrath. I think that would be so much fun!
Or am I just crazy? Does anyone else think that would be awesome?
Stew on that for a second, and if you have a moment between sips of coffee that I hope is hot and delicious, here are some articles that sparked my interest this week. I hope you find something interesting. 🙂

I’ve always admired Tim Gunn’s outspokenness.

I’m obsessed with doing actual skincare right. I love the feeling of being all hydrated, masked, moisturized. I have a routine right now that seems to be working for me *crosses fingers*

Forget the playhouse, I want a yard that size!!
Love Tim Gunn!! He’s so erudite and outspoken, yet still so thoughtful and concerned about his fellow human beings.
Forget trying to remember what was in your pockets as a kid, just pay attention and enjoy all the things that Connor will pick up and put in her pockets. My DD brought home so many rocks I thought she was going to grow up to be a geologist!

Makeup lessons sound fun! Nothing from the Fenty holiday collection is calling my name yet. I’ll have to read some reviews first.

One to try YSL Touch eclat cushion foundation. Heaven ! Looks incredibly natural.
Love reading your daily stories no matter the topic 🙂

As a plus-size woman, I truly appreciate Tim Gunn saying that. But now he needs to put his sketchbook where his mouth is and design for us himself. He’s not going to embarrass these companies into action by talking. If he puts the clothes on the market, however, we’ll buy the heck out of them and that much profit will be what gets other designers’ attention.
I’m not so much on the Fenty bandwagon yet, but those holiday collection lipsticks are intriguing…. And the new hairdryer is a must-try.

I’ve been the same way lately! The older I get, the more I get into perfecting my skin. Right now I’m obsessed with skincare, foundation and cconcealer. I prefer for my eyes and lips to be the focus so I want my foundation to just look like skin. Perfect skin. It’s been a struggle finding the right products but I think I’ve finally got it down!

I’m very lazy so I’m relying on you to do all the sampling and recs. 😉 I really do want someone to be like “this is perfect for you… use it every day, forever”. HAHA! My big change is that I’m testing some makeup brushes and have been using the Artis style for my BB cream. I really do think it looks nicer than just using my fingers. I will spend quite a bit of time on skincare at night but am much less inclined to spend more than a minute or 2 on foundation. I think I’m just much more rushed in the AM but I’d also like my skin to look its best without foundation – so I guess that part is just the most important to me and it’s where I invest the time/money.

But seriously, what IS your favorite foundation?? I’m right there with you on this makeup journey…leaning more into simple, natural looking makeup and it all starts and ends w/ the base. I always go back to Armani Luminous Silk no matter what else I try. But, I’m constantly on the hunt for my hg concealer. If I had a bright undereye I feel like I’m pretty much set! Currently into BB Full Cover but not sure it’s HG status yet.

Good foundation is life, especially for those of us not blessed with great skin! I’m right there with you. And I love Tim Gunn so much, especially for him repeatedly calling out the industry on their sizing. It makes it sense that the Project Runway winner he championed (and arguably the most successful), Christian Siriano, is now known for designing for all kinds of women! 🙂 Loved that kid’s pockets photo series, so sweet!
Karen says
Is he even still on the show? I haven’t watched it in years!
Trude says
You know I’m not sure! But they can’t do it without him, can they?? People would riot! 🙂 I think the last time I watched was 3 years ago… I miss the makeover show he had by himself, that was great.
