“Eye pencils are emollient, which means that after you apply the pencil, it always moves around unless you set it with shadow or powder. You don’t have to set your eyeliner with the same color. Try layering it with different colors to get added dimension.” - Final Night of San Francisco Fashion Week 2007: Backstage Makeup Tips from 5 MAC Artists
“Always make sure you blend out your liner whenever you are using a dramatic look with color. If you’re wearing eye shadow color, use a 212 brush to blend out your line to make it more smoky and smudged right by the lash line.” - Face of the Day: An Easy Day Look with MAC Mulch Shadow
“I’m kind of clumsy, so I like to do eyes first. That way if I totally screw up I don’t have to bother with re-doing foundation, powder, blush, etc. I also do this because inevitably there will always be niblets of shadow all over the place, and I like to swipe the under eye area clean before applying concealer.” - Face of the Day: Minimal Makeup for Busy (or Lazy!) Days
“I’ve been super busy lately, so I’ve gotten my makeup routine down to three (YES THREE!) minutes. In this pic above, it took me less than ten minutes to get from completely ready, including hair, makeup and clothes.” - Fabulous Post-Vacation Skin and Hair Products to the Rescue!
“Incredible Spreadable Scrub plus exfoliating gloves from Parissa equals skin smoother than a baby’s butt. Seriously. Incredible Spreadable Scrub is a salt and olive oil based exfoliator, so if you have open cuts or just got waxed don’t use it cause it will hurt like a mofo. But if your post-vacay skin needs some serious scrubbing then this gets the job done.” - Makeup and Beauty Blog’s Beach Essentials
“Most experts recommend reading the list of ingredients to look for two things. The first is to see if it [sunscreen] has broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB) coverage. The second is to see if the broad-spectrum sunscreen contains avobenzone, titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide. These ingredients provide significant UVA protection.”
It’s been yet another wonderfully mellow Sunday, and I’m sad to see the weekend slip away. Right after my run this morning, El Hub and I headed to Jamba Juice (seriously, just rename it Jamba Crack already) and then waited in line for 20 minutes at the Apple store to see the new iPhone. ‘Tis a fine piece of technology, I must say.
Tomorrow I have to send in the final order for the bridesmaid (aka the matron of honor) dress I’m going to wear to my friend Jen’s wedding in November. Jen chose an elegant golden dress with a pink sash. Here it is, sans sash. Very Audrey Hepburn, yah?

Hmm… I’m thinking I might need to get an industrial strength strapless bra and some double sided tape so “the girls” don’t fall out while I’m doing the YMCA at the reception.
I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing and mellow Sunday.

Hi Karen! Hope you are having a good Monday. This is only my second time posting a comment, but I just love your blog! I’ve been reading through your archives and have gotten some great make up tips. You mentioned needing to get a strapless bra and I would highly recommend Wacoal. I have always had trouble with strapless bras not fitting, but once I got sized for the proper bra, I found theirs to be the best. I found a pretty good selection at Macy’s – they even had the double sided tape. Have a great day!

Hey Karen! Thanks for the great round-up! The dress is very pretty, but yeah, it seems like it might be tricky for busty girls.

Wow, that’s an elegant dress! I always wonder how people hold up their tatas in those dresses. Now I know 😉 Btw, love your short hair.

That dress is very pretty. It’s one of the few bridesmaid’s dresses that I’ve seen that’s actually re-wearable. Good luck on the quest for a strapless bra. That’s always the worst for me!

Hi Violet,
Thanks for the recommendation. I have a bra with straps from Wacoal which I bought on sale awhile back and it’s the best bra, ever! It definitely holds the girls in place, LOL. I will definitely look for on from their line when I get the dress. 🙂

Hi Tiffany,
You’re welcome. 🙂 Yeah, one of the other bridesmaids whose a bit bigger on top than I am choose to get a dress with a cross over top and straps. The bride decided we could all get different styles so that was a huge relief for all of us. There was no way I’d wear an A-line, anyway (makes my butt look big), so thank god for that decision!
Karen says
Hi Dao,
Oh yah, double sided tape will change your life. LOL, that short hair pic is old. That’s when I chopped all my hair off right after the wedding
Karen says
Hi Brittany,
Thanks! It’s very cute in person. I hope I get the chance to re-wear it, too. 🙂 My big issue with strapless is that inevitably the bra ends up around my waist an hour after I put it on! I’ve also read that bustiers hold ’em up pretty well, too, so if all else fails I’ll probably end up with one of those industrial looking ones.

So did you or El Hub get the iPhone?
Thanks for posting those links. I just discovered your blog not too long ago and enjoyed looking back at some of your old posts.
