Got a couple new obsessions… 🙂
I caught the first one at Trader Joe’s, and I warn you — their Red Pepper Spread with Eggplant and Garlic is highly infectious/addictive.
Oh, man. So good, and it’s only 15 calories per tablespoon! Tablespoon — those are the big ones.
I’ve been spreading it on almost everything edible, from flour tortilla wraps filled with hummus, avocado, shredded carrots, lettuce and diced tomatoes, to veggies and grilled fish. It also makes a great dip.
And then there are rompers…
No, wait — I don’t mean with the spread. I mean, I’ve also been obsessed with rompers. And the spread. Two different things. 🙂
Okay, why didn’t I start wearing these things years ago? I found this one here on zappos.com, the Becca Jumper by designer Alejandra Sky.
I’d never heard of the line before, but their stuff gets good reviews, and I liked the look of the piece, so I took the plunge.
And I’m so glad I did!
I brought it with me to Kauai and probably wore it more than anything else (except my red camp shirt). Even since I’ve been back, it’s all I’ve wanted to wear.
Ready to romp? If you are, here’s when/where my current romper crush/fashion romp began…
For me and my 5-foot-1-inch frame, it’s neither too long nor short, and I think it’s just loose enough. When I wear it, I don’t feel over-exposed.
Then there’s the print…which has been making me very hungry for pineapple, LOL! I’ve probably eaten five since last month.
As a matter of fact, maybe that’s what happened to the sleeves — I accidentally ate them! 🙂 But seriously, this has been my very first sleeveless romper, and it won’t be my last. Very comfortable, especially this time of year.
With rompers, you take care of your entire outfit with a single piece. I love that. No worrying about coordinating a top with pants.
Oh, and this one even has pockets. Two in the front and two in the back.
Best of all, the drawstring waist has a little bit of stretch to it, giving me breathing room around the middle.
Sometimes, like if there’s a cool breeze wherever I’m going (or strong air conditioning), I’ll wear it with a scarf, but usually not if it’s hot.
From head to toe…
- Romper — Alejandra Sky Becca Jumper (available now at zappos.com)
- Earrings — Nordstrom (no longer available, but here’s a similar pair on sale for $9.99 at Urban Outfitters)
- Shoes — Unisa Kami Wedge (you know how much I love these; they’re available now at DSW, also on sale!)
- Scarf — Mossimo Supply Co (available now at Target)
Do you do rompers? Why or why not?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. You deserve a pat on the back. You made it over the hump. 🙂
What have you been up to tonight? I was craving pineapple earlier (yup, I was wearing this romper), so I picked up some fresh slices from TJ’s, and now I’ve just been catching up on Game of Thrones. I’m like three episodes behind.
Paris B says
I love your outfit posts and you look adorable in the rompers! I have never tried wearing them, simply because I think of the hassle going to the toilet and I back off. How do you cope with that, Karen? I think I’d have to cut back the water and hold it in hehe…
Karen says
Hi Paris,
The sleeveless ones like this one are actually really easy to get in and out of — much easier than the ones with sleeves! I just shimmy it down and that’s it. I think you should go for it. 🙂
Marina says
I am jealous of that romper! I’ve been wanting to find some nice ones, too. But o far did not get any I like.
As for vegetable spreads, don’t even get me started! I love those, mmm
Karen says
Hi Marina,
I love veggie spreads, especially the ones with eggplant. Do you make yours, or do you buy them at the store?
Marian says
You look so cute!…..and very fit to boot!
I can’t do rompers lol. Just thinking of myself in one makes me giggle.
Karen says
Hi Marian,
I never thought I could do them either, but now I love ’em. 🙂
How’s the afghan you’re making for your daughter? Are you almost done?
Anna says
Red pepper spread, or “ajvar” is originally a Balkan specialty! My mother makes it herself every winter. It is said that it originated in Macedonia, but it’s a kitchen staple in all Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian households… It’s interesting to see that it has become so popular and is being made in America as well!
Karen says
Hi Anna,
Food fun facts! Thank you, I didn’t know that. Is it hard to make? I think I might try my hand at it.
Anna says
I wouldn’t say that it’s hard, but it’s definitely a tedious job! Particularly if you’re making a large batch like my mom usually does. I could send you a translated original recipe if you’d like to try it out yourself!
Karen says
Hi Anna,
I’d love that. 🙂
Melissa says
Yes! I wanted to comment just say it’s really called ajvar 🙂 I live in a house where my dad’s Serbian from Beograd, and my mom’s Bosnian by way of Croatia and we eat ajvar with EVERYTHING. And I’m sure, like your mom, my mom claims her recipe is the best no matter what anyone else says. Makes me want some ćevapÄići and lepinja.
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
You look sooooo cute Karen!!! You really have great proportion and look at that amazing tan you have!
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
Thanks! 🙂 Hope you’re having a nice day so far.
Nina says
I was reading all night …. I mistakenly watched One Day on cable (cried and cried, if you must know)…. and now, I just HAVE TO finish the book. One that ive had since last year. :-d
So im wide awake now, but definitely bleary eyed.
Rompers arent for me, I think. Ive tried several, from several different places and they all fit strange. It might be a height issue (I lack it!) … or a hips issue (childbearing hips ftw) … 🙂 It looks awesome on you, though! Love!
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Is that the movie with Anne Hathaway? I saw that on Amazon and thought about renting it…
Nina says
Yep, that one. I liked it. 🙂 A bit slow moving, just like the book but not bad at all! 🙂
Karen says
Okay, just added it to my “need to watch” list. I hope it doesn’t make me cry, wah!
El Hub is working late tonight so I might rent it.
Nina says
I hope you like it. Its not really a guy movie. I watched it in the TV in my clothes/makeup room and the Hubs walked in on me while the tears were rolling down my face. He was all concerned for a bit then shook his head when I pointed at the tv screen. :-d
Michelle Miller says
This is such an adorable outfit. I’m not craving DSW I haven’t been into one for so long!
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
I love that store. There is one less than five minutes away from my house … dangerous, LOL!
Are you a shoe gal too?
Renee | Beauty Fool says
Oh gosh… just the perfect spring outfit! You look adorable. It looks perfect with the scarf.
I bought a romper once but I’ve never worn it… I’m gonna be TMI but I can imagine it’s tough going to the bathroom, haha!
x Renee
Karen says
Hi Renee,
Thanks! Ya know, it’s not a big deal with the sleeveless ones. They’re actually really easy to get in and out of.
Rainy Days & Lattes says
Hi Karen!
The romper is so flattering! I always have a hard time wearing them because I feel they’re so inconvinent! I feel like I have to take off all my clothes just to use the restroom LOL (TMI i know!)
=p I do have a couple in my closet that needs to be worn 😛
Karen says
Hi Rainy Days & Lattes,
I know what you mean. I have one with really long sleeves that’s definitely an issue when I use the restroom. But the sleeveless one is surprisingly really easy to wear! 🙂
Jihaeee says
I love rompers! They make your legs look super long and they’re especially cute on the beach.
Karen says
Hi Jihaeee,
Yes they do. I think I need a few more for the summer.
What do accessories you usually wear with your rompers?
Kim says
This romper looks fab on you! That said, it hits just about every “no way” in my book (for me). The biggest is my tiny bladder. By the time I got it back on, I’d have to take it off again! 🙂 Also, strapless is not my best look, and I’m not sure about the pockets in the front and back. All in all, I am not a romper girl, but you look terrific in it. 🙂
Karen says
Ya know, I was worried about that too, but this one’s surprisingly easy to shimmy in and out of. 🙂 I think you could rock it!
Kim says
I have one in a bag at home (the famous pre-Italy shopping trip where I didn’t try anything on and came home to find out I didn’t like any of it – and one of the “shirts” was actually a romper). Maybe I’ll try it on again. 🙂
Stèphanie says
Cute outfit! I love the wedges!
Karen says
Thanks! 🙂
Tina B says
Honestly, I never look twice at rompers (or even once) at stores. However, I’m loving how this looks on you! I’d love the breathing room around the middle and the pockets, too.
Karen says
Hi Tina,
I never did either until I saw a friend wearing one. You should try one out next time you’re shopping! You might just love how it looks. 🙂
Annabella Freeman says
Well clearly I’ve lost the plot, I thought that jar of red stuff was a new scrub! 😀
Beauty and the Scientist says
I have to try this spread the next time I go to TJs 🙂 it looks yummy.
