One of the things I loooove about magazines is the editorial, edgy makeup — basically, all of the stuff that you almost never see amidst the vast land of khaki pants, sensible shoes and cubicles. Like glossy lids (my favorite!), graphic cat eye shades, cray-cray glitter on lips, that kind of thing.
I still love the idea of makeup as art, even though I don’t go too cray on a daily basis anymore. I will still bust out a glossy lid here and there, but not in my everyday life when I’m going to the gym or the store to get stuff to make a birthday lasagna. Most of the time, I’m hella basic.
I will still do something edgy every once in a while, though, especially when I’m testing/playing with new products, but most of the outside-the-house time, you’ll find me in mascara, neutrals and nude lips.
Which reminds me…I should really make more of an effort to go outside wearing crazy makeup, LOL! 🙂
How about you? How often do you wear edgy makeup looks? And what does edgy mean to you?
Girl, if you say “every day,” you are my hero!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. WE MADE IT TO THE HUMP!!! In my spare time, I’m desperately trying to finish my Cinderella chores and get the house ready before my family comes over this weekend for Connor’s birthday. I wish there was a Roomba for, like, everything — the bathroom, the kitchen, the cooking, the walls. Wouldn’t that be great? 🙂

I have not done edgy makeup in quite some time (35 years). I guess it depends on what you call edgy. I usually stick to neutral, matte eye and lips. However,I have a wedding to attend in 3 weeks and since I bought a new black cocktail dress, that I am either thinking full blown smokey eye with neutral lip or pale-gold eye and bold red lip. My friend is doing my makeup that day and I guess we will see. i am leaning toward the red lip look. I think for me that it is edgy, but a classic edgy.
Looking forward to tomorrow. Big day for our babies, even though mine will be 16. BTW, it is also Dr. Suess’ birthday. if you can find a copy of the Happy Birthday book, get it. It was always a tradition on Zack’s birthday at our house. I have to find my copy.

I go to and participate in burlesque and circus shows, so I branch out sometimes. I have this gorgeous chartreuse eyeshadow from a friend starting an indie makeup company that I love to use as a wing. It’s so gorgeous. Glitter is awesome.
I do know a lot of colors I don’t like on me, due to my coloring. I’m also more likely to use bright colors in graphic eyeliner as opposed to an eyeshadow look. I feel more me with lighter eyelids – dark lids make me look weird.

I’m lucky if I have time to get some mascara and blush on during the week! On weekends if I’m going out I’ll put on some eyeshadow/eyeliner or a bold lip, nothing too crazy! I’m feeling overwhelmed thinking about spring cleaning, then I thought why don’t I hire someone to clean my windows on the outside. I have a 2-story house so I think it will be totally worth it! Treat yourself!

Ever since I started working in an office, not enough. I should do more on the weekends.

I knew immediately where that glossy eye inspiration came from! 🙂 You know me – never edgy with makeup. A smokey eye is too edgy for me. HAHA! I do think it’s amazing on other people, though.
I’m going to be making Team Dinner lasagna tonight, myself. I’ll send you good layering vibes. 🙂 I hope Connor has a fabulous 1st Birthday. The time has really flown!

Girl, send me your lasagna recipe!

I wear color every day, eyeshadow, I coordinate to match what I am wearing. So blues and greens etc are in my everyday looks.
But otherwise I’m pretty basic.
Those weird colored eyebrows etc don’t do it for me, ever.
But I will wear glitter to work.

I wear edgy makeup up from time to time but if anything it would be on a night I’m going out somewhere. What product did you use for the glossy lids?
Eileen says
Edgy? I don’t know about edgy, but I can be a bit rock ‘n roll. I love nothing more than a smoky eye (classic and colored) and I adore Tom Ford’s adult glitter.

Roomba for everything….yesssss!!! There should be a dishba, laundryba, and dustba. Haha!
Not so edgy. But I used to regularly go all out on multilayered lips – like, 4 or 5 rich colors. Some days I love that saturated, multi-color look. Today is more typical, though: a few dabs of a Kjaer Weis neutral (while driving of course) topped with sparkly honey Buxom gloss.

Hmm… I would do it everyday if I have time to put it on. Edgy lips are quicker to do but I feel like I’d still need to pay attention to the rest of the face. I haven’t tried the glossy eye yet. Does it feel sticky like lip glosses? I’d feel completely weirded out if that’s the case.
Note to self: I’d like to pull out that chartreuse eyeshadow again soon!

I don’t wear edgy stuff too often unless you count bright lips or odd colors like blue. I’ll do that all day erry day. Graphic liner is earlier too or a really bright liner. Glitter and gloss just don’t pair well with copious pet hair and messy eating 😛

Not sure how edgy you would consider it but I started wearing a graduated color liner, usually in shades of blues or greens. I did a green & gold look last week. And as much as I want to rock the green lips, I have yet to do so outside of the house. I think if I sat down & just practiced some graphic eyeliner looks, I’d be more comfortable wearing them on a regular basis. The glossy lids on you are amazing; my lids are oily enough that I don’t know of it would work on me but to be fair, I haven’t even tried. Congrats to making to Wednesday!

I was thinking a chipper “Sometimes!”…until, uh, I read the description. Personally, I thought my thicker than normal black tattoo liner with a…WING! today was quite edgy. Also thought using yellow on my lid once in a while was edgy too. Hmm, I guess when I said the word chipper in my first sentence I kinda self-excluded from the edgy camp. I’m okay with that 😉 Oh, geez, I suppose that semi-colon happy face outted me as a middle aged soccer mom. Whatevs! Oh, geesh, that’s not edgy either. Grrr.

My makeup signature is natural face and lips with big lashes and an unusual liner shade. My favorites are the red (I love red liner, and LOVE that its in style now so its easier to find) baby pink, and yellow from the NYX liquid brights line. Also glitter liner. It’s more subtle than glitter lips, but still definitely “there.”
Karen says
Hi Dani,
I love big lashes, too! What mascara do you use to get that big lash look?
Dani says
Honestly, right now it’s a super cheapie I just found and really like – Wet and Wild makes a 2 part fiber mascara. What I love about it is the mascara part, for whatever reason, doesn’t run. I can hop in the shower and blast my face with water, and I don’t get racoon eyes. I’ve seen that style of mascara in higher end brands, but I don’t like to spend lots of money on mascara because it has to be replaced so often.

I have tried everything, everything not to have glossy lids! LOL (aka oily lids)
LindaLibraLoca says
Nope. I go to work at the office five days a week, and there a winged liner is considered adventurous. And on the weekends, with the kids around, I don’t really have time for experimenting either.
Rachel S. Runyan says
A lot, but I work from home and can get away with it. I especially love wild eyeshadow with colorful liner and colored mascaras. I love to use all kinds of makeup in unconventional colors, glitters, metallics, etc. I don’t do glossy lids, though. 😉

At 21, going to a tiny liberal arts college, I bust out the edgy makeup every time I feel up to it! I’ve happily worn OCC Technopagan to class, or bright sparkly pink winged liner, glitter out the @$$ (stila magnificent metals is the BEST glitter I have ever used), a full-out grunge smoky eye, precisely applied Guerlain Garçonne lipstick with bold brows and a cat eye…. all in the past two weeks, lol. But that’s because I’m feeling a lot better– last semester I hardly ever bothered with makeup because I was recovering from a major surgery. This semester I have enough pep in my step to wake up a few minutes early and get some glam on. Tomorrow I’m doing red glitter lips. Pat McGrath realness. My creative writing class has seen enough of this shiz to not be surprised in the LEAST.
