Whoop-whoop! I can now officially cross “eat beignets on my birthday” off my bucket list.
Today’s NOLA fun started at Cafe du Monde this morning with an order of beignets and a frozen cafe au lait.
Oh, and in case you were unaware, hot fried dough covered with powdered sugar is magical!
After fueling up, El Hub and I wandered around the French Quarter and neighboring Garden District, which is a large residential area with huge old estates and tree-lined streets…
I’m having a lot of fun, and my feet are really getting a workout!
Basically, there’s been a whole lot of eating and walking involved, LOL!
Hope you’re having a wonderful day so far. Thank you for stopping by. More adventure awaits…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Love seeing these pics! Lafayette Cemetery is very unique. There are some really old graves there. Enjoying the food pics too. Beignets are the best. 🙂
Lulle says
Oooh I really want beignets now! Too bad it’s raining, but maybe it won’t be so hot now?
Have fun!
Alison M says
Happy birthday (again)! Glad you are having a fun adventure. I need to try beignets with frozen cafe au lait for breakfast some time. Although the crumb cake and fresh berries I had yesterday wasn’t half bad 😉 I love the photo of you under the umbrella looking back over your shoulder!
Jennifer says
You’re killing me with the food photos. And you look just adorable in the cemetery 🙂
I hope Tabs is surviving without the two of you? I do worry about my nephew.
Chelsea says
So jealous of the beignets, because even if I go to New Orleans, I can’t eat them because gluten ;-;
Shannon says
Happy Birthday! NOLA is my favorite place and I live pretty close! Palace Cafe and GW Finns are my favorite dinner spots! Mr. B’s is great for barbecue shrimp. The Monteleone Hotel has a fabulous rotating carousel bar! For jazz, I like Preservation Hall. Of course, everything is great there. Have fun.

New Orleans looks so fun and interesting! If you like that old world vibe you should check out Savannah, GA my favorite city! It’s full of beautiful mansions and gorgeous weeping willows! So gorgeous. By the way you should do a post about what makeup you use regularly! I can’t find a good light to medium powder foundation to keep in my purse, any recs?
Anne says
Happy birthday, Karen! Have fun! <3
I so want to eat those prawns. Yummy!
Phoenicia says
Hope you enjoyed your birthday.
The coffee and beignets are calling me – the calories in those things. It was your birthday though!
You take great photographs. I particularly like the castle/grand house with the horse statue. Very picturesque!
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow, it’s like being in The Originals!!! 😉 New Orleans looks like so much fun, I kinda wanna invent a transporter device and just zap myself there now.
Estefania says
Haha I was looking through the pictures and thinking, OMG American Horror Story!
tirurit says
Sign me in if you do invent it! No more 10 hour flights in a sardine tin!!

Great pictures! Now I want to go to New Orleans! Those beignets look sumptuous, Since I love eating fried dough at the Florida state fair I know I’d love beignets! Touring that old creepy cemetery looks so interesting. Looks like you’re having a great Birthday!!!Yay
Jenny says
Oh, how fun!! These pictures are beautiful! I’ve never been to New Orleans, but it’s on my bucket list! Have a great birthday, Karen!!
Kristin Mc says
So much jealous! I LOVE me some beignets!!!!! I can’t get down to Nolo as often as I’d like (actually, been a couple of decades, and then some…), but I do love me some good Nolo food! Beignets and gumbo are at the top of my list. I found an incredibly yummy recipe for beignets. Hope you’re having a blast!
Majick says
YA MADE IT! Love Café DuMonde! LOL lOve your pics! I haven’t been to NOLA since the rebuild. Do they still have the open air market down by the river? that was a fun place to browse.
Most of what I remember is eating myself silly from one end of the French QUarter to the other. LMAO
I’m glad you’re having a great time and I think it’s wonderful that Tabs is making personal long distance phone calls to everyone while you’re away. (he he he, almost had ya huh?)
Gloria says
Karen! I like your dress and the hat! Maybe you can do a couple of fashion post about this trip when you come back.
LindaLibraLoca says
Happy Birthday Karen!
I was thinking about “Interview with a Vampire” when looking at your pictures, so if you happen to run into Brad Pitt while there, tell him I say Hi!
mkdallas says
So glad you’re visiting NOLA…such a glorious place and the food is off the chain! It’s hotter than hell and humid as a swamp there right now, bless your heart! If you and the Hub are prepared to part with some fairly big bucks to enjoy one of the best meals you’ll ever have in your life, make a reservation at Commander’s Palace. You will remember it in your dreams!!
Denise says
I’ve never been either, so I have been enjoying your pictures. Thank you for posting them! Happy Birthday!
Astrid says
Happy birthday Karen!! (Slightly belated). Holidays are the best way to celebrate one :). Many many happy days! Your bday twins xx
Jenn S. says
NOLA is a short 12 hour drive, LOL, from my home here in FL. Hubs and I have been many times, a few were New Years Eve celebrations, and we even got engaged down by the mighty Mississippi! It’s a very cool city. One of my favorite memories, other than our engagement, was a powdered sugar fight amongst friends at Cafe du Monde! Ahhhh, beignets…I am concerned that you went into the cemetery without a guide or tour group. Many, many tourists are robbed every year in the cemeteries. Please be on your guard! Hope you and El Hubs enjoy every second of your trip to the Crescent City!
Tatiana says
Happy Birthday!!
Love that dress on you!
Those beignets look scrumptious! No way would my Dear Husband ever eat those. And he’d give me a load of grief for wanting to order some. Frozen coffee sounds really good, too!
I hope the rest of your trip is fantastic.
Caroline says
Acme oyster house cannot be missed!!!!! Fresh oysters on a half shell to DIE for!! And don’t forget the soft shell crab omg!! Oh New Orleans how I miss thee!!
Caroline says
And of course happy day of your birth!!
denise says
Ooh, I’ve never had frozen cafe au lait! Sounds delicious. But you seriously must try the real deal cafe au lait at Cafe Du Monde. It’s really seriously just the.best.coffee.
Also, for lunch, a muffaletta at the Central Grocery in the Quarter. There’s hardly anywhere to sit and they don’t take anything but cash (unless that’s changed) but it’s worth the effort.
Cherry says
Happy Bday! I love NOLA. Such a great place to visit, I’ve been twice! Have a fantastical time!!
Gina says
Happy Happy Birthday Karen!!! It’s been amazing watching you grow throughout the years. So beautiful. Happy for your happiness.

Karen, that shot of you holding the umbrella and looking back over your shoulder is seriously amazing. Love it!
Happy birthday, and many happy returns of the beignet!
Danielle says
Karen, I am so jealous of your trip! You are going to (and already are) have a blast! I’ve been to NOLA twice and left a piece of my heart there for sure. I have pictures of some of those exact buildings! Jackson Square just has this vibe to it.. all of NOLA does. It’s somewhere in between laid back and cutting edge. The Garden District (take the street car to go there, and hit up Audubon Park while you’re down there) is breath taking. There’s also a Guerlain spa and store in the business district, on the way to Canal Street. Muriel’s on Chartres St is supposed to be haunted, but it’s a fun place to grab a bite. Also, pick up some Mississippi Mud in a candy store while you’re there. You won’t regret it 😉 Living vicariously through your pictures!!! <3

Happy Birthday! It looks like you have fun.
