1. What did you do for your makeup today (or what do you plan to do if you haven’t gotten ready yet)?
I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I’m product testing. I have some things from Milk makeup that I want to try — their Sunshine Skin Tint in Honey, a Lip + Cheek cream stick and one of their Eye Vinyls.
2. Low-rise or high-rise pants?
Um…how ’bout no pants!? LOL! 🙂
OK, I’ll go with high-rise pants because they suck in le tum oh, so well.
3. If you were a doughnut (just humor me), what doughnut would you be?
Lemon jelly, because they’re sweet and simple on the outside, but tart and sassy on the inside. 😉
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using (if you’re using one at all, and if you aren’t, tell me why!)?
I’ve been using two of them together. I’m layering Drunk Elephant Shaba Complex Eye Serum underneath Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior Eye.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?
Surprisingly, no! I feel like I should’ve wanted to be her, though, because I do love tiaras and bracelets, but I wanted to be Princess Allura more… She piloted the blue lion in Voltron.
OK…that may have been the nerdiest thing I’ve ever typed, haha.
Saturday in the City
Good morning! Happy Monday. If we worked together, this is the part in the morning when we’d ask each other what we did over the weekend, and maybe show each other pics of things we did on our phones.
I went to the City (aka San Francisco) on Saturday for dim sum and a musical with a couple friends.
You know when you’re not quite ready to face the week because you had so much fun over the weekend? That’s how I feel today. I’m gonna try to focus on the good stuff, though, so I can prance through this Monday on light kitty paws.
Have a good rest of your day, and I hope wherever you are, the sun is shining (and that you’re wearing SPF!).
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
LK says
Hey Karen! Such nice photos! Speaking of nerdy… I spent the weekend playing Dishonored 2 with my boyfriend! It was incredible fun – both the game, and trying to tease and annoy him whenever he got killed by guards and things haha! So I too am feeling like I can’t really face the week now, after all that. Anyways, the questions!
1. What did you do for your makeup today (or what do you plan to do if you haven’t gotten ready yet)?
Hmm, I needed to send a pic to my new workplace, so they can make me a staff card. So I took it as a chance to try on some new makeup I got last week: the Givenchy Braise eyeshadow palette. I used it with two Givenchy cream eyeshadows (Bronze Couture which is a copper color, and Gold Blossom). Added the Terra Rosa dark plum Stylo Yeux from Chanel to match the plum in the palette, and finished off with some Le Volume mascara in black.
On the face, I used a mineral compact foundation from Inika, with a couple of Guerlain bronzers, and a Joues Contraste blush from Chanel, in Elegance. Dusted on some Meteorites from Guerlain, and presto – almost. Added just some lip balm on lips, to not make it too much. Normally I’d have loved something like a Rouge Coco Shine from Chanel in Temeraire – one of my favorite ever reds. But figured that’s already too much.
2. Low-rise or high-rise pants?
Low-rise. I have a deep hatred of high-rise pants since my mom used to make me wear them as a kid. :/
3. If you were a doughnut (just humor me), what doughnut would you be?
A simple one, with sugar dusted on top. 🙂
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using (if you’re using one at all, and if you aren’t, tell me why!)?
Started off with the Chanel Le Lift, which is now giving me some kind of weird reaction. On the surface, my eye area looks the way it usually does, but if I (even gently) rub my eyes, the skin begins to burn. 😐 Kept using the cream on just one eye to see if this is the issue, and yeah, it got worse on that eye. So I’m switching to their Micro Gel Yeux, which I have as a sample. Hopefully it will get better :/ Might also go back to the avocado one from Kiehl’s, which is a lot cheaper and is also nice and plumping.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?
Actually no, but I do plan to see the moving coming out soon. Now that I think about it, as a kid I’m not sure I wanted to be anyone in particular – or not badly enough to remember. 🙂
Efrain says
Hi LK! First of all that Makeup sounds amazing I bet you look stunning even though you aren’t wearing lipstick.
About eye creams, I know Chanel use a lot of fragrance in them so maybe it’s a good idea to stop both and return to Kiehl’s or another simpler formula.
LK says
Aw, thanks so much! What a kind thing to say! I’m becoming quite the Givenchy eye makeup fan.
And yeah, I think you’re right, the simpler Kiehl’s cream is definitely safe for me – I’m probably going to nip out to a shop one of these days and get one. I had it once before, and it was working out really well for me, but I gave to my mom… 😛
Eileen says
1. Makeup today: Polished but low keyed. I have a very busy day ahead of me and want to be low maintenance.
2. Low rise or high rise: Neither. I like my pants to hit about an inch below my natural waistline.
3. If I were a doughnut: Glazed buttermilk bar. I like the contrast of that crunchy exterior with that soft, sweet but tart, interior.
4. I don’t normally use eye cream, but I’ve also been trying that Drunk Elephant one. I’m two weeks into it and it does seem to have added some extra hydration which causes the skin to look smoother.
5. Wonder Woman: Nah! I remember the TV series and thought she was very boring as far as super heros go. I can hardly wait to see the new movie, though. I hear Gal Gadot is great.
Chris25 says
1) What did you do for your makeup today?: I’m wearing Lancome Maquicomplet concealer in Caramel, Bobbi Brown corrector in Dark Peach, BH Carli Bybel palette eyeshadows, Bobbi Brown shadows in Camel and Cocoa, Stila Smudge Stick in Damsel, Cover Girl Flamed Out mascara in Blackout, Too Faced Contour kit in Medium/Dark, Colourpop blush in Cruel Intentions, Maybelline lipstick in Smoking Red.
2) Low rise or high rise pants?: High rise.
3) If you were a doughnut, what kind would you be? Strawberry frosting with sprinkles. Pleasantly sweet, a hint of bright flavor and a pretty exterior.
4) What eye cream/serum are you currently using?: Fresh Black Tea Age Delay eye cream (amazing stuff!) and Peter Thomas Roth Un Wrinkle eye cream (good, but the effects are subtler than what I receive from the Fresh eye cream). I highly recommend the former.
5) Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?: No, I wanted to be Liza from “Gargoyles”. I wanted to befriend Goliath and have great hair.
Angie says
1. What did you do for your makeup today (or what do you plan to do if you haven’t gotten ready yet)?
I haven’t gotten ready yet. I’m feeling concealer to cover the lovely dark circles and mascara with some tinted lip balm these days. Texas summers do not inspire me to wear makeup.
2. Low-rise or high-rise pants?
High please. They hold in the mum-tum and keep my undies from showing in the back when I sit down.
3. If you were a doughnut (just humor me), what doughnut would you be?
This is too deep for me to answer on this particular Monday morning. I have literally sat here for 5 minutes trying to compare myself to a donut…
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using (if you’re using one at all, and if you aren’t, tell me why!)?
I am using the Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG serum from The Ordinary in the morning, followed by a First Aid Beauty eye cream. In the evenings, I am currently using an Argreline Solution 10% serum (also The Ordinary) followed by Midnight Recovery Eye from Keihl’s. The serums are new to my routine. Jury is still out for long term effects, but so far so good!
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?
No. We lived out in the country and I was too busy riding ATVs, getting dirty and playing sports. I wasn’t the kid with the great imagination. I was the one needing stitches and casts because I was such a physical daredevil.
Jane says
Looks like you had a great day in San Francisco. I love going into the city (NYC), I don’t do it enough. I also really miss good Chinese food!!!
Monday Poll (here goes):
1. What did you do for makeup today? I pretty much have been doing the same thing the last month 2 months. Nars Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, Creamy Concealer, basic bronzer, basic eye, Bobbi Brown Mahogany liner & Smokey Eye Mascara, Nars Dolce Vita lip and I’ve been using it on my cheeks. I tend to skip the eyeshadow on the weekend.
2. Low-Rise or High-rise pants? This 57 year old mama hasn’t done low-rise since her teens. I prefer mid-rise, other wise I feel like my pants hit my boobs.
3. If you were a doughnut, what doughnut would yo be? I’d probably be a plain, old-fashioned with powdered sugar or honey-glazed. I like the simple things. speaking of doughnuts, I need to go to The Doughnut Plant in NYC. They’re supposed to have an amazing selection.
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using? I admit that I haven’t been using eye cream in a long time. Even with my very dry eye area, I find eye creams don’t do any better at hydrating than my face moisturizer. My seasonal allergies don’t help either.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid? I can’t remember that far back, I actually wanted to be one of the Supremes or a Ronette. Music was my thing back then.
Off to take myself and Zack to the dentist. I hate going to the dentist, but we have a new one due to the change in my insurance plan.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
Jaclyn Levy says
1. Just the basics: sunscreen, brows, mascara, chapstick! Today was a gym day.
2. Ugh, neither! I’m rebelling against pants right now, especially since I have big quads from being a weight lifter so pants feel sucky. Give me shorts, skirts and dresses!
3. Chocolate glazed donut. Basic, but you’ll always walk away satisfied. 😀
4. I don’t wear any. I guess I should. But I’ve worn sunscreen almost every day since college and my skin looks good in my opinion so I guess I’m doing something right! I did recently buy a night time moisturizer at Aldi for $4. As you can imagine at that price, it sucks.
5. No, but I do now! I was never into comics growing up. In fact, I usually identified more with male characters. I’m glad girls now have more female heroes to look up to than I did.
Efrain says
Hi Jaclyn! I’m also happy that nowadays are more female heroes that can work as role models for girls.
Efrain says
1. What did you do for your makeup today (or what do you plan to do if you haven’t gotten ready yet)?
I’m not sure because it seems I’ll stay home but I want to try a new sponge I bought yesterday at Sally.
2. Low-rise or high-rise pants?
High-rise because they make you look slimmer.
3. If you were a doughnut (just humor me), what doughnut would you be?
A Krispy Kreme Cruller, not your average doughnut. Also because I can hardly eat one because most of them are too sweet for my tastes.
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using (if you’re using one at all, and if you aren’t, tell me why!)?
I always use the same face cream on my eyes area because in my opinion if you don’t have an specific concern your face cream gives the same results.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?
Yep, for me she was way more interesting than Batman and Superman. We saw the movie yesterday and I was so happy because Gal Gadot was really Wonder Woman; now Alisson and I have promised that if we ever go to San Diego Comic Con we’ll be the movie’s couple (me as Wonder Woman and she as Trevor).
So in a few words, in my opinion everyone should see the movie, even though the end has been a little controversial among my friends.
I love to see your friends pictures I hope Roman Holiday was great; here in the south was also a good weekend and my makeup session was great, so good to practice!
ericca says
What did you do for your makeup today (or what do you plan to do if you haven’t gotten ready yet)? I just wore lipstick by Bite Beauty in Molasses because my skin was looking real good
Low-rise or high-rise pants? high rise, low rise shows to much crack.
If you were a doughnut (just humor me), what doughnut would you be? i would be a salted caramel
What eye cream/serum are you currently using (if you’re using one at all, and if you aren’t, tell me why!)? kiehls creamy eye cream with avocado
Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid? No, she wasn’t popular with my family yet. I was into superwoman and the teenage mutant ninja turtles.
Twyla Munden says
Happy Monday!! Sounds like a great weekend with friends… I flew from NS to ON to visit my BF and his family for 3 days… short & sweet but its all we have for a long distance relationship right now…. working on a transfer!! lol.
1. Makeup today: I got home at 4am and work at 9am, so today I’m wearing ‘BareEssentials BB Cream #05’, Bella Mascara (Thx Ipsy), A little bronzer for contour, Nars Orgasim blush and MAC highlighter… Simple & fresh
2. Pants: I’ll take a Medium rise, you know those sit just below the naval but above the crack of your arse. That’s my preference…
3. Donut: Tim Hortons Nutella donut… Soft & fluffy pastry on the outside, with Nutella in the center and nuts all over.. lol
4. Eye Cream: I am trying everything these days. I lost weight last year and this one freakin wrinkle from hell appeared under my eye so I’m trying everything to get it to ‘fluff up’. Currently I’m using Vichy Aqualia Thermal Awakening Eye Balm for the day; at night I use Strivectin sd eye cream or Tarte Maracuja C-Brightner…
5. Superhero: Wonderwoman was not popular back then. I think at one time I wanted to be Bionic Woman…or Mighty Mouse.. lol
Have a great week Karen!
Chelsea says
1. Tinted Moisturizer, cream blush and highlighter, pretty standard three color eyeshadow look with a new Maybelline metallic liquid liner, and the new Lorac hydrating lip stain in comedienne.
2. High rise for life! I have a very long torso and an extremely high rise, even normal high rise jeans can be too low for me. My current fave jeans have an 11 inch rise.
3. Oh man, I don’t know. I don’t know a whole lot about kinds of donuts since I was gluten free for a long time.
4. I have Clinique All About Eyes because it was free with any Clinique purchase at Ulta while back. Love the texture.
5. Nope, I didn’t know much about Wonder Woman.
Leah G. says
1. I put on eyeshadow, powder, and lip gloss. Went very simple today.
2. Low rise. Works so much better with my long torso.
3. Apple cider donut (during apple season).
4. Origin’s GinZing. I’ve used it since it first came out and I love it!
5. There were all boys in my neighborhood and one other girl. Wonder Woman did not even cross my mind. 🙂
Syah says
1. What did you do for your makeup today (or what do you plan to do if you haven’t gotten ready yet)?
Just TM with sunscreen. Staying in all day today (except for a 20 min walk around my neighborhood at some point).
2. Low-rise or high-rise pants?
High-rise cuz it’s sexy 🙂
3. If you were a doughnut (just humor me), what doughnut would you be?
HMMMM….Orange-pistachio not for any other reason than because I like it. 😛
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using (if you’re using one at all, and if you aren’t, tell me why!)?
I’m not wearing eye cream because….my esthetician says it’s unnecessary at this point. I am still healing my rosacea so eye cream might be something down the road for sure.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?
No. I wanted to be Ultraman – it’s this Japanese cartoon.
breyerchic04 says
1) I’m getting ready in a little bit, and I’ll do something to gently cover this hormonal zit and dark circles 😉
2) Firmly mid rise, or dresses, preferably dresses.
3) I think lemon jelly works for me too
4) mario badescu ceramide eye gel and kiehls midnight repair eye cream, alternatingly
5) I don’t think I was ever that aware of her until my late teens?
Kim says
Your weekend sounds like it was awesome. So happy you gals got a chance to hang out! Every time you post pics of SF, I think how much I want to go there.
1. What did you do for makeup today? Same old, same old. PoreFessional in the t-zone, Tarte BB cream all over, Chanel Malice, Faux Cils (I’m really disappointed in my latest tube of Dinoplatz. Maybe I just remembered it differently), Anastasia brow pencil, Lancome dark brown shadow (as liner).
2. Low-Rise or High-rise pants? Low, all the way.
3. If you were a doughnut, what doughnut would you be? Boston Cream. I love that at first glance it’s like “hmmm, that looks pretty good” and then BAM it’s filled with a delish surprise. 🙂 I don’t think that I’m actually like that but, if forced to eat a donut, Boston Cream is my fave. So I’m choosing it in an aspirational way.
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using? I’m rotating a couple. Needles No More (Dr. Brandt) and Algenist Retinol Firming and Lifting.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid? No, I was way more into Superman and Spiderman. I was too much of a tomboy to want to wear a skirt and look sexy. HAHA! Plus, Superman can fly on his own. I never liked the idea of the invisible jet because, duh, you could still see WW!
Trude says
Looks like a fun weekend! The dim sum in SF is sooooo good. We went up to Tahoe yesterday for lunch with friends and it was perfection. 🙂
1) What did you do for your makeup today?
The usual go-to look. How is it already Monday again?!?
2) Low rise or high rise pants?
I’m with you sister – no pants! If I have to, high rise/mid rise is definitely preferable.
3) If you were a doughnut, what kind would you be?
Chocolate glazed. Not full-on chocolate, but just enough for some extra sweetness.
4) What eye cream/serum are you currently using?
I’ve been using a sample of Aveda’s new Tulasara wedding mask eye cream and it’s reeeally nice. And for serum I’ve been using Boscia’s Tsubaki beauty oil for about six months now and really like it, but I might try something different when it runs out.
5) Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?
I was all about She-ra. 😉
Tatiana says
1. What did you do for your makeup today (or what do you plan to do if you haven’t gotten ready yet)? Skincare, sunscreen, Bobbi Brown loose Mineral Foundation (discontinued), Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper, Benefit Roller Lash Mascara, Benefit Hoola Lite bronzer as a blush and near hairline and Chanel Le Rouge Crayon de Couleur in Rose Violine.
2. Low-rise or high-rise pants? Depends on how high. I like the waistband to hit at the underside of my belly button.
3. If you were a doughnut (just humor me), what doughnut would you be? Paczki. Polish, plump, sugar coated and filled with jam.
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using (if you’re using one at all, and if you aren’t, tell me why!)? Alternating between Dr. Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Brighten & Firm and Dr. Gross Ferulic + Retinol eye creams.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid? No, I didn’t read comic books, so I wasn’t aware of her way back when. And I was already a snarky teenager by the time Linda Carter’s TV show was on.
Saturday Dear Husband and I walked to the Anderson Collection and Cantor Arts Center so I could pick up a catalog on the Diebenkorn sketchbooks and so I could visit one of my favorite Ocean Park paintings of his. I also tried to get him excited about the Nick Cave exhibition, but it wasn’t his thing. Had a late lunch at Neiman Marcus cafe and looked at possible birthday and Father’s Day presents for him. Sunday he left on a business trip, so I watched the Warriors game by myself.
That Dim Sum looks yummy. Haven’t had dim sum in ages. Was it as good as it looks?
Eleni says
1) What did you do for your makeup today? Full working day in the office for me, so just Mac Face and Body all over my face, some Nars bronzer, brown liner and mascara.
2) Low rise or high rise pants?: Low rise.
3) If you were a doughnut, what kind would you be? Hazelnut sprinkles with real praline inside 🙂
4) What eye cream/serum are you currently using?: Kiehls midnight eye cream- it’s nice!
5) Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?: Nope, think I was more into Jasmine from Aladdin as a kid ?
Have a great start to your week!

1) Makeup today: I was late (surprise, surprise…) so it’s very, very minimal. A wash of taupe eyeshadow (Burberry cream shadow), concealer (Clarins), mascara (UD Perversion), powder foundation (Clinique) and Lancome’s new summer LE cheek palette.
2) Low rise or high rise: high rise! It’s just much more flattering on my body shape (= thin waist and not so thin bottom…)
3) Doughnut: I would be a vanilla lavender doughnut with a heart of custard
4) Eye cream: I’m using Kiehl’s avocado cream in the morning, and Estee Lauder ANR eye cream in the evening
5) No, I wanted to be Supermanette. You know, the girl version of Superman for a French toddler. I actually said that to my parents and I didn’t understand why everyone thought it was so hilarious…
Oooh dim sum! My favorite is soup dumplings. It’s probably one of the best comfort food in the world… but it comes with a high risk of severe tongue burns. That explosion of hot, salty broth in your mouth though!
snowprincess says
1. Monday makeup for me is powder, blush and lips in neutral pink to set off my new golden blonde hair.
2. High rise for comfort and support.
3. Chocolate covered with peanuts. Sweet and nutty is me to a tee.
4. I don’t use eye cream. I know so bad. Need to start…
5. Princess allura for the win! I wanted to be her too… maybe because i liked Keith.
Kate & Zena says
First off, you watched Voltron as a kid too? AHHHHHH! TWINSIES! HAve you watched the new version on Netflix yet?
1. Makeup today: I wore nothin’. I hate wearing makeup when I have to go in the car with my parents and drive 80 miles to my neurologist. NO MAKEUP!
2. Low rise or high rise: I like a natural waistline as well.
3. If I were a doughnut: Probably glazed. Sweet outside, but really complex on the inside.
4. Eye cream: Still using Clinique’s All About Eyes.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid?: No, I didn’t. I always felt that Wonder Woman and Superman weren’t relatable because they were, in just about every way, invincible. I always wanted to be Batman because he was always saving those with super powers because he had no powers! Plus, I mean, he has the coolest transportation, a Batcave, AND a kick butt butler. Who doesn’t love Alfred, come on!
Erin says
1. The only makeup I’ve put on the last few days is Fresh Poppy lip color!
2. Hmm, with the size of my ass, better make it high rise so I never plumber butt anyone.
3. A toss up between a lemon jelly and a maple bacon!
4. I’m using Hylamide SubQ eye and Benton Fermentation Eye Cream!
5. I never wanted to be Wonder Woman. I wanted to be Batman. Always Batman!
Rachel R. says
It sounds like you had a great weekend. I haven’t been to San Francisco since the early 90s. Your pictures always make me miss it. We lived there off and on when I was a young child and we visited often when not living there.
Our kids were begging for a camping trip, so we went to Mt. St. Helen’s (it’s about 3 hrs. away from us). Our kids had never gotten the see the mountain: Earlier trips were always thwarted by late snow closing roads, surprise all-day fog in the middle of August obscuring the mountain, and other “fun” PNW weather. We lucked out this time and the weather was beautiful. We were able to see the whole mountain and get a beautiful view of the caldera.
1. What did you do for your makeup today (or what do you plan to do if you haven’t gotten ready yet)? I haven’t worn makeup since Sunday (migraines yesterday and today). We took our camper to Mt. St. Helen’s, so I didn’t take much and I kept it simple (for me): E.l.f. Moisturizing Foundation in Ivory; Tony Moly Cat Wink face powder (it’s what I keep in my purse); e.l.f. Beautifully Bare Lipstick in Touch of Berry; bhCosmetics Forever Nude face palette. I mixed the nude matte and shimmer blushes. I used the shimmery coppery pink on the eyelid, the matte pink in the crease; the pale shimmery pink on the browbone, the shimmery ivory on the inner corner, and defined the outer third of my upper lash line and my entire lower lash line with the blackened plum. Black mascara and setting spray to finish.
2. Low-rise or high-rise pants? Neither; I look awful in both.
3. If you were a doughnut (just humor me), what doughnut would you be? Fruit loop: Sweet with a solid base and a colorful appearance.
4. What eye cream/serum are you currently using (if you’re using one at all, and if you aren’t, tell me why!)? I have yet to find a cream that I thought really did much good. I loved the Josie Maran Argan Oil (seriously, a miracle in a bottle) but I can’t afford the steep price, so I’m going to look into finding a cheaper brand and hoping it’s all the same. I’m open to suggestions if anyone wants to recommend one to me.
5. Did you ever want to be Wonder Woman as a kid? Absolutely. I was 5 or 6 when the TV series with Lynda Carter came out in the 70s. A strong, beautiful, female superhero who shared my love of red boots? Yes, please!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
If you ever make it back down to the Bay Area let me know. I would love to meet you in person. 🙂
By the way, Trader Joe’s has a new Argan Oil for $6.99. I haven’t tried it but from what I’ve tried, TJ’s has really good skin care products.
Rachel Runyan says
Thanks for the tip on the Argan Oil. I haven’t been in Trader Joe’s in ages. I need to go to the next town ASAP.
Hubby and I keep wanting to make a trip to the Bay Area. In the past my sons’ issues and medical costs where prohibitive of much traveling. I hope to do more in the next couple years. I would love to meet you to, and when I finally make it, I will absolutely let you know.
