So..what is the Monday Poll?
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past NINE (!) years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine. 🙂
1. Flats or high tops?
High tops. Because I can wear socks with them, which I definitely NEED today because it’s freaking freezing here right meow.
2. Three things you’re grateful for today?
- A good night’s sleep. ‘Tis wonderful!
- The Ergo Baby 360, which is basically a versatile backpack, except that instead of carrying books and laptops, you stick a baby in it. You can wear it on your front, your back or on either hip for hands-free babying.
- Central heating.
3. When I was growing up, I wasn’t allowed to…
Well, there were A LOT of things I wasn’t allowed to do because my family was strict, but one of those things was slumber parties.
Like, whenever I was invited to an official slumber party, I could go to the actual party to open presents, have cake or watch movies or what have you…but I had to go home before the actual slumbering began. 🙁
Sometimes I was allowed to spend the night at my best friend’s house, but she lived next door, and our families had known each other for years.
4. What’s something you could happily eat every day?
Frozen waffles. I’ve always loved ’em. Even when I was pregnant and basically hated all food for the first few months, the only things I could eat were frozen waffles (especially with peanut butter and raisins on top).
5. How do you know when you’ve had one too many drinks?
I get really, REALLY hot somewhere around the middle of my second glass. My forehead starts sweating, and at that point I figure that I should probably slow my roll and switch to water.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Here are the questions to copy and paste…

P.P.S. I hope your tum gets gloriously filled with yummy holiday treats this week and that you get to do massive amounts of fooling around online when your boss isn’t looking. 🙂
Chloe says
1. Flats or high tops?
Flats for sure. I love to be as close to the ground as I can get. Which is odd, because I have flat feet, so it would seem I would like a slight heel.
2. Three things you’re grateful for today?
My health, my family, and a warm home to live in, especially in this brutal cold weather right now
3. When I was growing up, I wasn’t allowed to…

3. When I was growing up, I wasn’t allowed to…watch the show Hart to Hart. My mother deemed it too racy, which was irritating to me then and highly amusing to me now because I was allowed to watch Dynasty and Dallas and the daytime soaps. Hart to Hart wasn’t any racier than those shows I don’t think.
4. What’s something you could happily eat every day? Pizza!
5. How do you know when you’ve had one too many drinks? It’s tough to know because I don’t allow myself to have more than two any more. I start to feel really glowy and giggly, that’s for sure.
P.s. I’m so sad that you had to leave before the slumber! Not fair. I can’t imagine how frustrating that must have been 🙁 So, will Connor get to slumber?
Jessica says
I LOVED my ergo. I barely used a stroller at all for the first year…and I used that ergo all over NYC (think streets and subway stairs…awesome ab/thigh workout)…
I used the ergo for about three and a half years, and I only stopped because I’m really short and my daughter is tall, so it got awkward. But the weight was never a problem.
My daughter is 11 and to this day she still clearly remembers riding on my back…she loved it.

1. Flats or high tops? Flats. I have wide feet, and it’s hard to find high tops that fit me. For some reason, flats are easier to find in wide sizes.
2. Three things you’re grateful for today? 1) My hubby who has been keeping me together in the midst of some recent major stress. He helped me straighten out some issues today. I’m starting to feel better. 2) My son’s social worker, who has also been helpful getting an issue fixed, and is always patient and kind. 3) It’s warm enough to put the bunnies outside. The snow and freezing temps meant they spent a few days in their playpen in my living room. They were getting cabin fever, and yesterday they starting to throw food, hay, and poo around.
3. When I was growing up, I wasn’t allowed to… Go to concerts without an adult present. This held till I graduated high school. Of course, my mom wouldn’t got with me because she didn’t like my music, and my friends parents didn’t go with them, so I was screwed.

Jaclyn levy says
1. Flats. I feel like I’m too short for high tops!
2. My youngest got in a good nap, having a lunch date with said youngest, chilling with my kids watching WallE.
3. Work. My parents said school was my work. However when I graduated college I felt behind my peers because I had no real work experience. Karen I’m interested to find out how strict you think you’ll be with Conner based on your own experience. Will Connor get to go to the occasional slumber party?
4. Tex Mex forever and evah.
5. When I get really tired and feel those internal filters that keep me from acting like a fool going down.
Gloria Yang says
My boss didn’t let her kids go to slumber parties either! I liked them to an extent.. We had them in HS for the flag team before competitions. It was fun hanging out, but I wouldn’t sleep well despite needing a good night’s sleep before a day of tossing fags around!

4. What’s something you could happily eat every day?
I’m going to say Mac and Cheese cuz the sidebar ad is currently that of Mac and Cheese. I also love popcorn chicken, sweet potato, sushi, tacos, guacamole
5. How do you know when you’ve had one too many drinks?
So I have the Asian Glow (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_flush_reaction), and after 1/2 a glass of anything, I’m pretty darn done. The flush comes with hives, super fast heart beating, headache and inability to breathe. Since I’m not enjoying being tipsy, ever, I don’t drink anymore. Oh, sometimes eating helps, like if I eat a lot of cheese, then I won’t flush as much.

Totally high tops! Converse, Vans, I’ll take them all.
2. Three things you’re grateful for today?

2. Three things you’re grateful for today?
Crossword puzzles, holiday lights, and hand cream. These cuticles are ragged!

Veto family activities. Once, we were vacationing at the shore and I was really absorbed by the book I was reading. My family wanted to play mini golf, which I despised, but they wouldn’t let me stay back home alone. So I brought my book to read in the car, but my parents practically dragged me out of the car to participate in this activity that I hated and was no good at. Then my siblings complained because I was awkward and taking too long. I was about 14 and am still somewhat annoyed when I think about it!
