Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past NINE (!) years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine. 🙂
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
I don’t know if it counts as a traditionally scary movie because it’s not Carrie or Halloween or that one with Jason Voorhees that I can never remember because they all kind of blend together…but it’s The Craft, that classic film about a quartet of angtsy teenage witches…
Haha! I cracked myself up…
I’ve watched that movie so many times, though. The style is so gloriously ’90s. Heck, I may watch it again tonight. It’s a Halloween classic for me.
And then there’s Rosemary’s Baby, too. I’m more of a suspense person than a blood, guts and gore person. I’d rather wonder about the big reveal at the end than jump in my seat at ear-piercing sounds.
I like the simplicity of Rosemary’s Baby and how the evil characters are just the people in her everyday life. She’s completely unsuspecting…
2. Do you own a feather boa?
Well, yeah, obviously! 🙂 I think I own two.
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
All the time, especially when I’m PMSing…
Actually, even when I’m not PMSing. Some songs just make me super emo.
Don’t even get me started about the time I heard Adelle’s Someone Like You for the first time. I was parked at a stoplight to make a left turn one day when I was driving home (I think it was also raining, which may have contributed to the water works) and heard that song for the first time.
I burst into tears.
Yes, I’m that person crying by herself while listening to Adelle in the car.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
Hell, no! That would be the kiss of death for me. I’m not about to put a matching tattoo on myself. I’m too fickle. I’d think it’s really cool one day, but the next day I’d be like, “What the #$$%@ did I do!?”
Then the other person would feel bad because I’d have this tattoo I want to remove… Yadda, yadda, yadda — bad idea.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
This is a really tough one because, on the one hand, Saved by the Bell, and how cool would it have been to hang out with that crew?
But I think I’ll pick 90210 — the old version with Donna, David, Brenda, Brandon, Kelly, Dillon and that whole group, because I always thought they needed a sassy brown girl, and that sassy brown girl could have been me.
I would have been all up in that Brenda/Dillon/Kelly love triangle, too!
Happy Halloween!!!
Good Monday morning, my friend. 🙂 Did you do any Halloween partying over the weekend? No partying for me, but Connor Claire is looking forward to rocking her monkey costume to the mall tonight.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Chelsea says
Look at that cute little monkey! Love her smile.
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
I hate scary movies! I feel like The Orphanage was really good but I’m extremely prone to nightmares.
2. Do you own a feather boa?
No, but I should! The feathers are so messy though…
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
Oh yeah.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
I don’t plan on any tattoos, so no!
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Boy Meets World!
Shannon says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
Gosh, I don’t even know if I have one that counts… I’m not really into horror, but I can do suspense. Like “The Village” by M Night Shyamalan – does that count? 🙂 if so, then I pick that one.
Side note: I took a class on the Philosophy of Aesthetics where we watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I was so very hopeful that I would learn to like horror films in that class… but nope. No chance. I hated that movie.
2. Do you own a feather boa?
Yes ma’am! A hot pink one, in fact 🙂
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
Sometimes. This one song by Becca Stevens gets me every time… it’s called JAC, and it’s about her nephew. And MY nephew’s name is Jack, and he lives far away, and the song is just so sweet and tender and makes me miss that little guy… Ach! I cry every time I hear it.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
Mmmm no thanks. I talked about it with a friend once, but now I’m firmly in the “no way” camp!
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Full House, please! I loved that show.
Happy Halloween, Karen! I made some music over the weekend, but didn’t dress up at all. I’m contemplating dressing up as a DSW shopping bag when I get home… I have a dress with stripes that would be PERFECT, lol.
Fran says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? The original Dracula with Bela Lugosi, I think. I’m not that much of a movie person, but my son and I do like to catch some things on TCM.
2. Do you own a feather boa? No. Lots of scarves, though! Love scarves. Even have scarf rings and scarf pins. Even knit my own scarves.
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? No… but I don’t really cry all that much, unless I’m unbelievably frustrated and sad at the same time.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? No. My only tatoos are little dots for my breast cancer radiation. Would actually like to get the one between my collarbones removed some day.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? Let’s see… the only ’90s TV show I can remember off the top of my head is Law and Order, so I guess it would have to be that! Not much of a TV person, either… I seem to be full of “No!” today, lol!
Lorraine says
omg the most adorable clickbait ever. I came to look at Connor Claire!
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
Trilogy of Terror with Karen Black. Nightmare inducing stuff!
2. Do you own a feather boa?
I have a costume loving daughter, so there are lots of things like this about my house.
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
I am a mom. Meaning a huge YES! and at Disney movies, Hallmark ads, milestone moments etc etc etc
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
No thanks
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Charmed, I’m sure.
Leah G. says
No parties over the weekend but we dressed up at work today! I dressed up as a farmer. Complete with a basket of veggies and some garden tools.
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? Scream
2. Do you own a feather boa? No
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? I have, yes.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? No. I believe tattoos should be individual.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? Although it ended in the early 90s I would say ‘Wonder Years’ 🙂
Happy Halloween! Love Connor Claire’s costume!
Daewyn says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
One that really creeped me out was Paranormal Activity, so I’ll go with that. Though it’s really hard to choose a favorite 🙂
2. Do you own a feather boa?
No. I think I did have one once, but it shed everywhere, so my outfit would be full of loose feathers.
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
If I’m feeling really sad, then yeah it happens. I’m more visually tuned, so movies are way more effective at making me cry.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
No. One – because I find it kinda tacky, and how would you really agree on something so important. Two – I had heart surgery as a kid, so I have a higher risk of heart infections, which is a risk when you get a tattoo.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Hmm. That’s a tough one. Right now I’m binging on Buffy, but I really don’t want to live in a world full of vampires and demons, so I think I’ll go with something more peacefull, like Will and Grace.
Mel. B says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? Needful Things by Stephen King.
2. Do you own a feather boa? No.
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? Absolutely. Like a really sad song/ballad.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? That doesn’t seem necessary.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? Melrose Place!
Didi-Nana says
cutest baby ever! That’s my grand-daughter.
Erin says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
I do also like the craft but I’m not sure it’s scary! It’s not really a movie but IT was pretty good.
2. Do you own a feather boa?
Nope!
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
Yeah. I think my current worst one is I Will Follow You Into The Dark.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
Nope, probably not.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Hmmm, Northern Exposure, Star Trek, or Buffy!
Kiss & Make-up says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
The Descent
2. Do you own a feather boa?
I do… <_<
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
Whenever I hear My Immortal by Evanescence I almost cry. Almost.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
Doubt it.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
I always wanted to be Donna from Full House 🙂
Rachel R. says
Happy Halloween!
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? The original Night of the Living Dead.
2. Do you own a feather boa? No, but I should. 😉
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? Occasionally
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? My husband and I have matching tattoos that we got for our 15th anniversary. We each have half of a tiger’s head, with each other’s eye color for the tiger’s eyes.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? The X-Files
Karen says
Oh, the X-Files! That’s such a good answer! I wish I thought of that one. My favorite episode is the one where a shape-shifter pretends to be Mulder and he and Scully almost make out. 🙂
Rachel R. says
That’s a great one.
Connor is soooooo cute in her costume. ????
Tatiana says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? The Cabin in the Woods because Chris Hemsworth.
2. Do you own a feather boa? No
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? Not recently.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? Oh. Hell. No!
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? We didn’t have a TV then, except for the year we lived in The Netherlands. So the only show I remember seeing was The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Yeah, Will Smith.
You’ve got the cutest little monkey there!! Have fun with her!!
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
I sure will. I’m about to take her trick-or-treating in just a few. Please don’t tell her that mommy ate all her candy. 🙂
What was it like living in the Netherlands? Did you enjoy it?
Tatiana says
To be honest it was hard living there. I was pregnant, couldn’t get a work permit and the birth experience was not ideal. The best part was Dear Husband went to Paris for work every other week. So once a month I hopped on a train and spent a week in Paris.
Candy, yum, yum! Parents down here on the peninsula take away their kids’ candy overnight and leave them a toy or other present in it’s place. Then they tell their kids the “Candy Witch” came and took their candy. I think it must have been started by a parent who was a dentist or something.
We only did it one year when my daughter realized that she was the only one of her friends who got to keep and eat all her candy. One of her friends got an American Girl doll from the CW. Sigh.
Jaclyn levy says
1. I kind of hate scary movies! I don’t understand the appeal! So for me I’d probably say Gravity. Haha.
2. No, but I’m thinking I need one!
3. Oh girl… The Wiz Khalifa song “see you again” made in memory of Paul Walker came out days after my friend mysteriously died. That song wrecked me. I still think of her and tear up when it comes on.
4. Probably only with my husband or sister, but it would still take a lot of convincing!
5. I cheated and looked at the other answers for this one, but I’m going to be weird and say a workout video! The neon, the high waisted leotards, the legs for miles! I’m in.
Karen says
Hey, Gravity was SCARY.
And ha ha ha… I used to have an “Abs of Steel” video in the ’90s and yeah the workout gear was fierce in its own way!
kwmechelle says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? Don’t have one. I’m a total scary cat. I watched Silence of the Lamb laying on my mom’s lap with my eyes closed in a dark room while my brothers, younger brothers might I add, happily enjoyed it. I’m also the kid who dressed as Tina Turner one year with hair too big & a pair of heels I couldn’t walk in & my mom’s sequined cape. As I approached the masked man on the porch to ask for candy, he jumped up & yelled. I screamed my head off, took off running, & lost one of the heels. Needless to say, I’m not a good friend to tag along to a scary movie 🙂
2. Do you own a feather boa? Nope but I own peacock feathers that I use to make accessories. Does that count? 🙂
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? Gurl, yes. I cry even when not listening to music. I’m a sappy sucker.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? Yep but it’d have to be a kick a$$ tat 🙂
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? Fresh Prince of Bel Air or A Different World. I’d die to go to Hillman with Whitley, Dwayne, Denise- the whole crew. 🙂
Karen says
Umm… I kind of love your mom for having a sequined cape. #momgoals
Of course the next question would have to be why did she own a sequined cape?
kwmechelle says
Tehehehe…good question. She was kinda fly in her clubbing days. The cape was kinda bronze-y, sparkly, & shiny. And she was a Diana Ross fan, big hair & all. That Halloween she teased my hair & I wore purple & blue cream eyeshadow. And I couldn’t have been older than 11, maybe? This began my love affair with makeup, shiny things, & big hair ☺️
laura says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? I never watch scary movies. Just not my thing.
2. Do you own a feather boa? Nope. But when would I use it anyway?
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? I used to in my teens. Now I don’t anymore.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? Heeeeeell no. Worst idea ever. It’s as bad as getting a tattoo of your boyfriend or girlfriend’s name. Or a tattoo of a baby’s face. Now that’s scary!
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? The nanny or who’s the boss. I grew up idolizing tony danza and fran drescher.
Karen says
Hi Laura,
I think there’s always a reason to wear a feather boa… LOL! I used to love Who’s the Boss, too, especially how Tony would say “Angelurrrr.”
laura says
Yes, he was funny with his accent and his very innovative ways of cleaning the house. I thought he was just the best dad ever. I always loved the dynamic they had with Alyssa Milano. They were so believable as father and daughter.
Syah says
Yay back from my annual visit to the fam in South East Asia and my first monday poll since coming back. 🙂
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
I don’t like scary movies…But the really scary ones are the Thai scary movies I used to watch as a kid. Then, you spend the whole week checking behind you in the mirror to make sure no one is there. Or in the toilet bowl for a reflection of a haunted little girl. 😛
2. Do you own a feather boa?
No! But I really want one preferably a colorful one 🙂
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
Um…no. But I do feel inspired to learn a new song on guitar once in a while.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
NO. I am a baby with pain. Plus, that’s just asking for bad luck with your relationship with the person.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Um…the Nickelodeon kids’ version of SNL. I forgot what it was called but Amanda Bynes and Kenan and Kel were on it…I love improv so I’d totally be on that show.
xo Syah
Karen says
Welcome back, Syah! Where did you go?
Syah says
Singapore to visit family 🙂
Kate & Zena says
Aw, Connor Claire looks adorable as a monkey! LOL at Tabs in the back!
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
I dislike scary movies, but the closest I can get to scary is Pan’s Labyrinth.
2. Do you own a feather boa?
Nope, I used to though.
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
When my grams was really sick after her stroke, the song “Say Something” by A Great Big World would send me into tears. I would have to pull over onto the side of the road every time it turned on and just cry because that’s the situation I was in. It still makes me cry sometimes.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
No, but I would get two images that related in some way, if that made sense (a sun that corresponded with a moon. Or mountains that corresponded to a lake.)
Karen, I used to think like you. I used to think, “I’m way too fickle for a tattoo!” I really got my first one after my grams died and I felt like I needed to a way to physically honor her. I had toyed with the idea of a necklace (but it didn’t feel right) but a tattoo felt right. That’s why I have the word “strength” in cursive behind my right ear. It took me a year to gather the courage to get it, but I got it.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Bill Nye the Science Guy. I was a huge nerd when I was growing up (and I still am!) and I watched Bill Nye the Science Guy religiously. It got me so into science and nature and I still love science and nature thanks to him. I so miss that show!
Karen says
Kate, that sounds like a beautiful tribute to your grams. Even though it’s been a while, I’m very sorry for your loss.
Stephanie Smith says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? Hmmmm , I’m not big on scary movies. So I’m gonna go with “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”!
2. Do you own a feather boa? No, and that’s terrible! I’m going to remedy that!
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? Yes! Kelly Clarkson’s “A moment like this” because she won American Idol six days after I had my first daughter and I was in that glorious sleep deprived/overwhelmed stage when I heard her sing those words while looking at my newborn baby. She’s 14 now and I still can’t listen to it without bawling. I love it.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? No I don’t think so, unless it was a rad tribute tattoo to a family member or something. But matching with someone isn’t my thing.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? Blossom or Daria. Both really speak to me!
Lulle says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
It’s not scary at all, but one of my favorite Halloween worthy movie is Ghostbusters. I saw it so many times when I was a kid!
2. Do you own a feather boa?
Nope! I had feather slippers a while back though!
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
It happens, but mostly with classical music.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
Absolutely not. I wouldn’t get a tattoo to start with, but matching with someone else is a recipe for disaster. People change, relationships change so I wouldn’t want to be stuck with something that has no longer any meaning in my life in 20 years.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Easy one, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air! It was my favorite show back in the day. I’d go shopping with Hilary and bully Carlton with Will.
Or the X-Files. I’d love to go look for Lord Kinbote with Mulder and discuss red hair maintenance with Scully.
Kim says
I’m late but just had to reply to this because of your #3 story. I was at a friend’s house the first time I heard that song and I was singing along to it (which was either some paranormal moment or evidence that I’m a good guesser with rhyming song lyrics). It still makes me sob, every single time. Other culprits – and I don’t even listen to country music – Garth Brooks’ The Dance and Tim McGraw’s Don’t Take the Girl. And probably 100 others. 🙂
1. What’s your favorite scary movie? The Shining, I think.
2. Do you own a feather boa? No, but my boys each have a huge stuffed animal boa.
3. Do you ever cry listening to music? Um, yeah, every day. See above. HAHA!
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? I’d never get a tattoo, full stop. Same reason as you – I’m way to fickle.
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be? Probably the X-files or Seinfeld. It still cracks me up.
Kim says
too fickle, of course. 🙂
CL says
1. What’s your favorite scary movie?
I don’t really like scary movies, but a few that I do like are:
“Poltergeist” “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1950s version)
and “Coraline.”
2. Do you own a feather boa?
No.
3. Do you ever cry listening to music?
Only if a song reminds me of my late, great Shetland Sheepdog.
4. Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone?
No. (I’d never be tattooed at all.)
5. If you could be on a ’90s TV show, which show would it be?
Can’t think of any.
