You might be wondering, “So what in tarnation is this Monday Poll thing anyway!?”
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past seven years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
A couple times, I have. Occasionally I’ll travel for blog-related things, but they’re always super fast turnarounds, like you know, literally fly in and fly out, so I don’t get to spend a lot of time doing vacation-y things, but it’s always exciting.Like a few years ago I went to Milan for fashion week and covered the Dolce & Gabbana show. I was the shortest person in the room backstage with Pat McGrath!
I also went to Toronto to visit the Estée Lauder can’t-remember-the-name research labs, and that was super cool.
- Capes: a do or a don’t?
Maybe I just haven’t found the right cape…but for me, I feel like they’re a don’t, because I’m barely 5’1″ tall, and capes make me look like I’m drowning in material. But if I ever found “the right cape,” I’d consider it.
- Who’s the person you text the most?
Strangely enough, it’s my old work friend Neiman, and it’s always nonsensical stuff, usually pictures of food. Like yesterday I sent him a picture of a broccoli and potato frittata that I made.I guess it’s because we used to be food/diet buddies when we worked together in San Francisco, and we’d talk about exercising and eating salads, so now we just send each other pictures of food.
- How is your skin doing so far this winter?
It’s been super fussy, but it was fine until Christmas, when we left the Bay Area for a few days and went north to Redding near the Oregon border. It’s freakishly dry there, so I started breaking out.I think it’s also because I’ve been eating stuff I don’t usually eat, like a lot more fried food and sugary foods.
So now my skin’s hella dry, and I’ve got a little breakout, but it’ll be fine in a month or so if I’m good about watching what I eat and start exercising again.
- What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
Probably that I don’t have to put a ton of stuff in my brows to make them look as lush and big and bushy as I like.I look back on my brows and how I used to do them a year ago, when I would pack a lot of powder in them because I felt like I had to, but now I just use two things: a brow pencil and a brow gel, and that’s it for the same lush look.
Your turn. 🙂 Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em!
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
How’s it going, my friend? I hope your week got off to a good start. I went out at the crack of dawn this morning for a quick cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich from Panera, and there was lots of traffic again, so it looks like the holidays are officially over…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Ruchita says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Nope. We actually have offices in India, but I haven’t had a need to travel there for work.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
A don’t for me. Being short, I feel like they would overpower my frame.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
My husband. Usually about what to pick up for dinner or stuff to get from the grocery store. Once I was downstairs and texted him that dinner was ready. He was upstairs and apparently couldn’t hear me the first several times I called because he had headphones on. 🙂
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Not too bad. A bit on the dry side, but mostly doing good!
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
There are some hidden gems in the drugstore! I found a face primer by Rimmel that I like and even a couple of foundation colors that work for me.
Happy Monday! I’m back to work after more than a week off for the holidays. The cats were getting spoiled because they would get me to give them snacks throughout the day. Now back to healthy eating for everyone! 🙂
Kiss & Make-up says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? Nope. But I do live abroad and work here. Does that count?
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? Let’s go with do.
3. Who’s the person you text the most? My mom
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? Not too well. It’s very parched yet at the same time shiny.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? I don’t need foundation!
Debra says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? Nope, not yet. But ya never know what the future might bring.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? I DO love them. I’m 5’3-1/2″ though so length is not a problem (at least I don’t think it is). Maybe just above the knee-length cape would work for you?
3. Who’s the person you text the most? Dear Husband
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? Good, a few pimples on the chin from being dry because I’ve been sitting by the fire to get warm but no big deal. Hey, that sugar molecule is huge so it takes water from the skin.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? That I do not need to pack on under-eye corrector and concealer. Been using just corrector and a touch of concealer. And saving money in the beauty bargain too.
Tulipthecat says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Nope, just for vacation. Although we have offices around the world.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
I’m going to say a don’t because I’ve never found one that looked good on me
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
My boyfriend
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Oh gosh…During the holiday season it’s been super dry and breaking out. So hard to wear foundation these days…
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
That I can’t use liquid liner because my eyelids are way too oily. It just falls off.
Erin says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Yes. I lived in Germany for several years for work.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
F*ck yes! Always a do.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
My husband, hands down!
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
A bit drier and flakier but not as bad as previous years!
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
That less isn’t more when it comes to foundation when you have crater like pores.
I also learned to mix NARS Copacabana Illuminator with my the Creamy Concealer for a version of YSL TE on crack.
LindaLibraLoca says
Thats interesting! Where in Germany did you live?
Katherine M says
Hope you are having a great new year so far, Karen! I hope 2015 will have a lot of different things in store for me.
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
~I haven’t. It sounds like a lot of fun, though. My brother is a mechanical engineer for Coast Guard just like my dad was before he retired, and he gets to travel on Coast Guard’s dime. It’s a good way to see places, even if you don’t really get a vacation there.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
~Not sure about them. I’m more of a fan of the long, cozy sweater jackets. The ones that hang to your knees. I feel like you can do a lot more with those than a cape.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
~Probably my husband – we have different work schedules at times, so it’s our way of keeping in touch throughout the day. Currently we are texting about various houses we are looking at. We both want more property and a good place to really settle down. We currently live in a townhouse. The first house we looked at before Christmas definitely did NOT look like the pics, but we have 4 possibilities to look at soon. So here’s hoping that one of them looks like a winner at least.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
~I’m not getting as many pimples, so it’s doing well. I have a pretty good routine going for it. I think my skin prefers the colder weather. I also think that keeping my workout routine very regular has helped it a lot. I started keeping a workout journal, which really helps.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
~I learned how to be comfortable in my own skin. I go bare faced quite often and for work (since I work in healthcare), I typically do concealer and maybe BB or CC cream and call it a day. I’ve also learned how powerful makeup is. I was showing my brother’s girlfriend the joys of Urban Decay – she’d never heard of the brand before, not being super into makeup – and I was showing her how the cute names and pretty colors can give you such a thrill. She’s into cars like my bro is, so I had gotten her UD 24/7 liner in Oil Slick for her birthday. She loves it, and says it is some of the best eyeliner she’s ever used. My mom gets a giggle out of using the NARS G-Spot blush/Multiple stick that I got her for Christmas. She says it’s the perfect color and the name just cracks her up. So, basically what I learned is that it’s great to be comfortable in your own skin and use makeup to feel confident/powerful/sexy/whatever you want to feel.
Shannon says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
I suppose so – when I would tour with my family in our band. We went overseas way back in 1998, and I turned 11 while we were on tour in Germany! And I lost my first tooth with roots on that trip, too… aah, memories 🙂
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
mm… I think they can be done very well, but I haven’t found one that I love for me. The search continues!
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
Probably my sister – especially now that she’s about to have a kid. We’re all excitement 🙂
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Not too bad… I’m not breaking out too much, but I have some nasty dry/irritated spots around my chin. I’ve realized I put my chin in my hands QUITE frequently, so I guess I’ll be working on breaking that habit for the next few weeks.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
How much I love the look a single eyeshadow can give. Just one pop of color, and done! It seems silly, looking back, that I never used to do that… it was either at least a 2-shadow look, or nothing. But I’m super glad I made the “discovery.” 🙂
Leah G. says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? Nope, just lots of work travel in the US since 1999. I love work travel!
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? Sure…if it was made of sweater material I think I could pull it off.
3. Who’s the person you text the most? That would be my husband. But really any friends with iMessage (gotta love texting other iPhones for free).
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? Doing okay. I’ve had a few eczema flair ups on my chest and belly. That’s typical for me in winter. We just hooked up the humidifier for the season so that will help with any New England winter skin issues.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? I had a co-worker notice when I was wearing sparkly silver eye shadow but not notice all the way across the table with other shadows. I think this is because I wear glasses? I told her I wear eye shadow every day but the only time she commented was when I was wearing a pretty vibrant silver.
Petra says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? Nope… i just book travel for my coworkers
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? Not for me
3. Who’s the person you text the most? My hub 🙂
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? It was great and then i tried a new serum and all hell broke loose :/ i am still trying to sort it out again
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? I have learned to use foundation without it looking cakey – maybe not surprising but awesome for me ^^
I have one full vacationday left! Yey! Happy monday
tirurit says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Nope. I work with tourists so I get to experience a tiny portion of a different culture with each different one
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
Yes! When I was little my mum had a wool one with fur trim and since then I’ve thought that they were very elegant
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
Sister. She lives abroad
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Better than in summer! As soon as the stupid heat and humidity disappear it goes back to normal
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
The best results come from a great skin. Quite basic right? It took a while for it to finally sink in!
Rachel says
Karen! What is in those sushi rolls/what are they called?! I loooove seaweed salad!
Estefania says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Nope! Our company is pretty large, though, so I hope to have the opportunity someday!
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
A total do! I used to have this one cape that was red and black and even though it was HUGE and had a floppy turtleneck (and I am also 5’1″), it didn’t drown me! It always looked proportionate.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
The boyfriend. Definitely. We try to talk as much as possible, but I work and he’s in school, so texting is how we get most of our conversations in!
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Surprisingly nice. I broke out for a bit right before Christmas, but a couple of the Perricone MD Chloro Plasma masks took care of that right away! Right now it’s being quiet. A little… TOO quiet..
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
That I don’t have to wear winged eyeliner for my look to be complete. I used to ALWAYS do a winged eyeliner because I felt like that was what you did after you finished your eyeshadow. Lately, though, I’ve been loving the look of a bright, sparkly eye with no liner and huge lashes 🙂
Yeah, I’m not exactly glad to have the traffic back, either! 😛 I dropped off the boyfriend at the airport this morning, so it hasn’t been the BEST morning in the world, haha. The show, however, must go on!
Elena says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Not for work but for school. I did a study abroad art program in Italy! It was mainly based out of Florence and I love that city. I can’t wait to go back one day.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
Maybe a do for other people. I don’t know if I could pull it off. I could rock a poncho if I tried! But I just like to dress really casual. Nothing too fancy!
3. Who’s the person you text the most? My boyfriend or my best friend.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
My face is fine and so is my body. My lips have been going back and forth between happy and moisturized to super chapped so I have been using Bite’s Agave Lip Mask to fix them up!
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
Nothing majorly surprising to me at least.
Hm, I perfected my makeup application and discovered the beauty blender is totally worth it when it comes to applying foundation.
I have learned a lot about brows too! My brow game is always on point now. I used to thread them at this little salon every other week but now I groom and tweeze my own and save a little money. I learned a lot about brow shape just from reading online. It is surprisingly easy to groom my brows but trying to explain what I do to other people is a little tricky!
Carly says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Nope. This year was the first time ever I’ve even traveled for work. (First ‘big girl’ job)
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
A don’t for me. They look great on others, but like others have stated I’m too short to wear them. Or I just haven’t found the right one for me.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
My momma– aka my best friend.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Awful. I have that annoying combo skin so I’m oily but dry at the same time. So frustrating. I try to exfoliate a few times a week and put on night cream and it helps a little but I’m still pretty dry.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
There’s nothing wrong with a little pop of color. I’ve always been one of those ‘natural’ make up kinda girls but this past year I’ve been experimenting much more with color. And it’s not as scary as it seems!
P.S. I know someone else already made a comment about your sushi, but is that bottom roll a California roll w/ lemon & salmon? If so, that is one of my all time favorites! Hope you had a wonderful New Year! Love your blog!
Elissa says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
No I haven’t, but I would love to in the future!
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
I wish I could. With triple Ds on my chest, I have to have something that cinches at the waist otherwise I just look pregnant.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
Probably my mom. She’s the person I’m most consistent with texting at least. No matter what, every day we have a texting convo to catch up.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
I have been breaking out so badly! This has been the worst or second worst season of breaking out for me (worse than high school). The issue is that I’m getting a lot of really deep and painful pimples, and that pain is hard to ignore so I keep picking at them. Crossing my fingers that my skin sorts itself out soon!
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
That foundation is really all I need for my skin to look beautiful. I used to wear foundation and a cover-up powder, I’m learning that isn’t really necessary!
MonicaP says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Yes, I’ve been to Amsterdam, Thailand, Malaysia, Germany and Mexico managing events.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
Do! But I haven’t purchased one as I’m on a coat ban .. lol. Really, I barely wear the ones I have.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
The spouse.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Good, a bit dry .. but I was in the desert for 2 weeks.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
That I don’t need to try everything and if it works – repurchase!

1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? – Hundreds of times – I’ve been in IT for a couple of decades! I love travelling, even on business. I also moved countries twice for work and am still “abroad” now.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? Not really – like you, I’m short and don’t think they’d suit me.
3. Who’s the person you text the most? My brother and a local friend.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? Fine, bit dry but nothing tragic!
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? More of a discovery than something I learned – Clinique Chubby Sticks. Love them!
astou says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Not yet …
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
Definitely a do !!!
I have one from “NAF NAF”, a french brand, it’s black, with a hoodie, super super long : shoulders to ankles !!!
It makes me feels like i just escape from a fairy tale, very dramatic.
Several times people on street asked me where to find it.
I love it, my husband hate it 🙂
For short women i recommend the “english coat”, with a tiny cape that cover just the shoulders … very stylish.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
My dear husband.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Not so good 🙁
I’m dry skin and even if i moisturise it , at the end of the day it still terrible.
Even though i’ve purchased some good products(??!!) like Blanc de creme from Erborian or The Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel.
It’s obviously not enough.
It’s alaska in Paris !!!
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
E V E R Y T H I N G !!!
– That there’s actually different foundation shades for dark skin and i don’t have to be black-red anymore!!! :
After i quit my job, it was all about kids, kids, kids and husband.
And then 13 years later, i’ve realise that make up evolved like technology !!!
I’ve found my REAL skintone and my undertone !!!
– That a lot of brand does’nt know that there is black people in France !!! And stop their range of shade at light shades, and don’t allowed us to purchase overseas !!!
I’m so mad !!!
– That i used to love makeup, and i still do : blushes, lipsticks, foundations, EYESHADOWS, brushes … sounds like music… 🙂
Tatiana says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
For work, no. My DH travels a lot for work and sometimes I like to tag along. When I was working in New York City I flew to LA for a business trip. The sunshine, the palm trees, swimming in the outdoor, hotel pool in March. All I needed to convince me to move to CA.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
At 5 foot 1 1/4 inches tall, definitely a don’t. I look like a collapsing tent. Although, I did keep my father’s Knights of Columbus cape for a long time. It gradually became a part of many Halloween costumes. Dad would have smiled and approved.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
My daughter. When she’s away at school we text each other photos of people, clothes, shoes and anything else we find interesting. I get to hear about her friends, classes and whacky professors.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Ugh, don’t ask. Went to Japan for the holidays. It was colder there and the buildings heated way more. Now I have flaky dry skin with breakouts. Can’t figure out how to moisturize without making the blemishes worse. I want to try an exfoliating mask, but I’m afraid it will just make my skin dryer.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
Two things. At my age, less is more and I can pull off a much brighter lipstick than I ever thought I could.
gina says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Nope!! I hope to one day though. 🙂
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
I think they look great,on tall girls but like you Karen, I’m a shorty so I can’t pull em off!
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
Depends on the day! Whoever I start with in the morning, our text convo usually continues for the rest of the day.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Ehhh…. My skins kinda combination. Lately I’ve noticed my cheeks getting a little drier and I have some dark spots on my chin from recent pimples. Id like to try a new face lotion but not sure what to try.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
I don’t need to wear it to feel pretty. I learned that a few years ago; in my late 20’s
Trude says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? Not for work, no. The furthest I’ve been sent for a job is one county over! 🙂
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? They look great on celebrities, fashion bloggers and people that live in actual cold weather. Here in SoCal they can be tough to pull off.
3. Who’s the person you text the most? The boyfriend. We don’t live together yet and have opposite work schedules so we’ll check in throughout the days we’re not together.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? So crazy dry! I guess because I’m in my 30s now? But I still get hormonal breakouts. I can’t win. Going to bed with just a quick makeup wipe-down just isn’t enough anymore, I really have to moisturize (and with a nighttime formula).
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? The value of a transition shade in the crease. It’s essential! So thankful for beauty blogs and videos, it makes it 1000x easier to learn than when I was a kid and magazines left out every other step (and still do!). I use at least a touch of bronzer (Too Faced Milk Chocolate) in the crease with a fluffy Sigma crease brush, if not more. 🙂
kwmechelle says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
nope, it’d be really cool though
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
definitely a don’t for me. I know they can be worn stylishly and can look classic, but I feel like they look so dated. Or maybe just too mature for me
3. Who’s the person you text the most? Probably my little brother. He’s not exactly little anymore but he’s the youngest of my two brothers, so he’ll always be “little” to me
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? Pretty good! The summer is usually when my skin acts the worst, though I generally have clear skin
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? That I can rock pink lips. Yeah, I know. Not groundbreaking but I always thought I was too deep complexioned.
Rough start to the week for me. My emailed was hacked so now I can neither send or receive texts. And in case you received an email from me, I’m very sorry. And I’m not in Turkey and don’t need you to wire me $1500!!!
Rachel R. says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? Nope 🙁 Nothing that exciting. Plus, most of my adult life I’ve been a SAHM.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? Not my thing, but some people pull them off. The shorter capelets can be kind of cute.
3. Who’s the person you text the most? My oldest son. He needs a lot of help managing his bipolar disorder, anxiety, etc. and all the issues, appointments, and paperwork that comes with them.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? Pretty good, overall. My feet are ungodly dry, just like every winter. I’m trying a new Baobab and shea butter cream. It’s definitely helping my hands and cuticles, which also tend to be dry in winter.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
That I can wear darker and brighter colors on my cheeks than I thought. That I like and can look good in vampy lip shades.
Sylirael says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? Yes! One of the best things about academia, I reckon 😉 I’ve been to London, Naples, Rome, Tasmania and Sharjah/Dubai in the space of four years, as well as various places around NZ.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? I desperately want a cloak. Like, a full one. In black silk velvet. It will weigh 1124341241 kg, (er, 2248682482 pounds) and I will look amazing in it (in my head, anyway).
3. Who’s the person you text the most? Probably my Mum 🙂 Second is maybe my sister, or my ballet teacher!
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Well, it’s summer here, LOL! My skin is doing OK, actually, which I credit to my discovery that rosehip oil fixes a good 90% of my problems (epic dryness, pores from dryness, did I mention dryness?).
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? That I might actually be able to wear orange and nude lipstick. Might 😉
Jisu Kim says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? Nope but it will be cool if I ever get a chance
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? A big don’t for me
3. Who’s the person you text the most? My friend, and she is probably the only person I consistently text. other people I use some other texting like apps
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? My face is doing ok but my body is definitely feeling very dry! If I don’t put on lotion after shower, it almost hurts !
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
Poo@beautyandmakeupmatters says

2. Capes: a do or a don’t? – I don’t think they are made for me.. I am 5 only 😛
3. Who’s the person you text the most? – my blogger friend off late about makeup and everything alike 😉
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? So far so good.. Saved from any kind of dryness n breakouts
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? Rightly placed Highlighter can change the way you look..:-)
Have a wonderful week :-*
Kate & Zena says
1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
No, I haven’t. I was born in a different country though!
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
Yes, but only certain capes. I have a Calvin Klein one that I REALLY love. It’s made out of a thin jersey like material so it doesn’t overwhelm my really petite, slim figure.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
Probably my friend Jon. XD
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
It’s been okay, but ask me again in a few days. An arctic blast has decided to blast through our area bringing temperatures that have been steadily around the 20s-40s down to single digits down to the negatives without the wind chill factored in.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
Less can be so much more. It’s amazing how properly placed concealer can brighten your face dramatically; all you need then is some mascara and lipgloss (plus brows for me!)
Icequeen81 says

I can use other colors eyeliners, and they can look good on my dark eyes, with my dark eyebrows and lashes

1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work? No, I’m a stay at home Mom, no traveling required.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t? Do! If it makes you happy!
3. Who’s the person you text the most? My two bff’s, I’m texting them as I type this, we have a three way conversation going all the time. I love it!
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter? It’s unhappy with me because I’ve been eating a lot do bread lately, and I don’t do well with bread. But I’ve stopped, and it’ll be happier pretty soon!
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year? That wearing a little bit is a good thing! I’m so busy in the morning that I would just walk out the door bare faced. Taking two or three minutes to swipe on a little eyeliner, mascara, and tinted lip balm has made a huge difference.

1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
No. I can’t wait to get a job where I’ll have the opportunity to though lol
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
Do! I think they’re so cute when done right
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
Probably my bff. We can talk about any and everything
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
It’s okay. Having a slight breakout but working through it 😀
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
Primers and powders can seriously change your life. I didn’t realize until last year what a big difference they can make

1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
Ha, no, I wish! I work in retail, so that’s not likely to happen.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
They’re a don’t for me! Just not my style.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
My brother. He is teaching English in another country, so I text him through a free app. It’s the best way for us to stay in touch right now.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
My skin tends to be very dry, and winter makes it even worse. So far I’ve been fighting that pretty well. I moisturize every time I wash my face with a cream formulated for dry skin. Before bed I’ll apply Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream every other day or so, and I’ve also been keeping up with my exfoliating routine. All together, that seems to be keeping the flaky skin at bay.
My usually-clear skin has been breaking out over the past few days, though. It’s most likely hormonal and should clear up pretty quickly, thankfully!
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
I learned that my brows actually look much better when I don’t apply concealer around them. I felt like they looked too “carved out” that way and stopped doing it. Now I feel like my brows look more natural, fuller, and still well-groomed without being too fussy.

1. Have you ever traveled out of the country for work?
No. Not even when I was studying. I really wanted to go abroad and our University offered awesome opportunities, but my boyfriend declared he couldn’t stand me being away for six months, so I caved and stayed. Big mistake. I should have left him the instant I noticed he didn’t support my dreams.
2. Capes: a do or a don’t?
A do. I have a wollen green one and I love to wear it in autumn and spring. But then again I am quite tall (1,73 m, which is 5 ft 8), so they look great paired with a white top and dark denim.
3. Who’s the person you text the most?
My baby sister. It used to be my husband, but since we live together now, there is no point in texting him as much as before.
4. How is your skin doing so far this winter?
Actually pretty good. It is drier than I am used to (I have to use a moisturizer daily!), but so far *knock on wood* no major issues.
5. What’s the most surprising thing you learned about makeup last year?
How different it can make me look. Had one go-to-look I wore pretty much everyday, but since starting the “Inspired by…”-series, I tried looks way out of my comfort zone and sometimes have to take a second look to realize that really is me on the picture.
