You might be wondering, “So what in tarnation is this Monday Poll thing anyway!?”
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past seven years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
Not on the street, no, but several people have told me that they’ve seen my twin. She, or they, are out there… It’s only a matter of time before we find each other, and the plot against us unfolds. - I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
Be on that show, Fear Factor (is that still on?). I just remember seeing a clip with a woman stuck in a box filled with a billion worms. That’s literally my nightmare. Literally. - Would you want to be a werewolf?
No…because Tabs would be afraid of me. 🙁 - What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
To have a life where I was the one actually driving the car and making the decisions, because my parents had a plan for me all laid out, which was to go to medical school, even though that was the last thing in the world I wanted.I think some of it was a cultural thing, and my parents were just trying to help, but I had to learn how to speak up for myself and fight for the things I wanted.
- How do you feel about green eye shadow?
I wear it all the time, but only specific shades of green. Khaki greens, golden olive greens. I rarely wear bright kelly greens or neon greens because I feel like I’m of a certain age and can’t pull them off anymore…but olive greens and khaki greens are cool.
Your turn. 🙂 Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em!
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow?
“It’s like something out of The Godfather.” How often do you hear that? Well, I heard it yesterday, as a matter of fact, on a street corner in the Mission district in San Francisco. There’s always something going on in that part of the city.
I was there with El Hub to meet one of his friends for lunch, and there was this big procession with a marching band right on the street in front of a beautiful old church.
One of the things I love about San Francisco. 🙂
Happy Monday, my friend. I hope you have an easy day today. I’m not really in the mood for difficulty, if you know what I mean. I want to coast…
Your nephew says “mrow,” by the way.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

… go shark diving.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
No, Team Vampire all the way. Just think about hair-removal!

To be taken seriously at work. Lots of alpha-males where I work, so I had to prove I am not “the blond girl”
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow?
I love it, I own about five different shades and absolutely none of them suits me.
Agata says

2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________. Go without caffeine.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? Depends if I am Wolfman, Micheal J. Fox, or fighting sparkly vamps.

5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? Love it.
MM Curator says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? – No.
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to: go sky-diving.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? No, I don’t like the lack of control that comes with being a werewolf – once the full moon’s up you have no choice but to take wolf form. Much rather be a vampire!
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? Running, or basically any physical activity. I’m a couch potato by nature and not blessed with any kind of physical ability – no speed, strength, endurance, nada. Running is particularly hard for me so I fight for every step.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? Love love love!! I think it’s my favorite shade besides gold.

5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? Love! I should wear it more…
Ami says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
Yes! When I was in college I traveled to LA for a debate tournament (I’m from Cleveland, OH) and during the awards part of the tournament there was a girl on stage who looked JUST LIKE me, her facial features were just closer together! It was so weird I wish I could have found her and taken a picture.
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
Work in the wireless sales industry again.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
Well normally I’d say no, but I hear these days they have potions for that time of month when there’s a full moon to keep werewolves from hurting people, so I guess I wouldn’t mind, although I’d prefer to be something else.
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
Not much really…weight loss I guess?
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow?
I wear it on a rare occasion. I always wear bright green on St. Paddy’s day and I do have greenish eyes so it looks good on me, I just prefer nudes and purples.
Ericca says

5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? its ok. I am a brown girl but i get alot of compliments when i wear green
Karen says
Hi Ericca,
LOL! I get the same thing, too. People are always saying that I look like someone’s cousin or aunt.
Anywho, happy Monday!
Ruchita says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
No, but a couple of years ago I had friends say they saw a girl that looked just like me. It would be rather weird to run into your doppelganger!
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
Jump out of an airplane. Not gonna do it.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
Nope. Couldn’t deal with all the hair. Being a vampire might be cool, though. Mostly for the strength/fastness, not the diet. 🙂
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
Finding my own way and keeping relationships that were meaningful to me. Luckily, my parents didn’t push me into medical school, but I know many other Indian parents that are like that.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow?
I really like it, but I realized I haven’t worn it in quite some time.
Happy Monday!
Karen says
Hey friend!
How was the party? Did you have fun?
Ruchita says
Hey! The party was really fun. I was up way past my bedtime, but luckily the cats didn’t starve from hunger. 🙂 I did post pic to my IG with part of my costume. Did Tabs attend any wild parties? I could totally see him decked out at some type of masquerade ball. 🙂
Amy says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
Well, being a twin…yes. 🙂
2. You couldn’t pay me enough to lie. I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the money.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
No interest!
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
The last whoppers from the Halloween stash. 😉 That, and integrity.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow?
Depends on the look, but I think green shades can be done in different ways that look great on a lot of people. Don’t do it often myself, but not opposed!
Karen says
Hi Amy,
I always thought it would be super cool to have a twin! Are you the older or younger twin?
Oh, and P.S. You can have my Whoppers. They do nothing for me. Snickers, on the other hand…
Amy says
Yeah, those mini snickers are pretty tasty… until you hit the “snickers wall.” haha!
Younger – by 3 minutes!
Rachel R. says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? Two of my cousins look just like me, except their hair are different colors.
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
Have anything to do with heights or cockroaches.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
No, I wouldn’t want to kill innocent people and animals.
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
Getting my special needs kids the social, school and medical services they require. Constant, non-stop fighting. Still doing it,too. I don’t know if it will ever end.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? I love it! Olives and gold-greens are my favorites, but I find green looks great with hazel eyes. I avoid really light, frosted greens, though. I wore green eyeshadow just yesterday.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
I remember you mentioning your sons last week. I hope and wish for the best for you, your two boys and your family. Sending you extra good vibes today!
Oh, and regarding green eyeshadow — have you ever checked Chanel’s Khaki Vert? It’s a seriously gorgeous olive green. One of my faves to wear.
Rachel R. says
Karen: Thanks for the good vibes. 🙂
I have not tried Khaki Vert. I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks for the recommendation.
Kim says
That really *does* look like a scene from the Godfather. We’re from a very Catholic area but I’ve never seen a procession like that. It must not be a small town thing! And this is probably a dumb question but is that an actual person with the gold halo or is it a statue?
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? No, but people have said that to me, as well (I saw someone who looked just like you).
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________. Do a “food challenge” like they used to (maybe still do?) on Survivor. Even if I could get it down, I could never keep it down. I still can’t get over Snowpiercer. Shudder.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? Heck no. I can’t imagine how much it hurts when the skin starts bubbling and the jaw breaks and elongates and the claws come out. For what? There is no upside to being a werewolf, in my opinion. HAHA!
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? The right to party? Kidding. I like to get my way, so probably a million things over the years. I can’t think of anything major/life changing, though.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? I’m very plain/neutral so bold colors are never my thing, personally. I do think they look nice on other people, though. Just not for me. 🙂
Karen says
It sounded like one of the scenes set in Sicily from The Godfather, too, with the music from the brass band. It was pretty neat to watch. I’m still not sure what it was, but think it might be a Peruvian festivity, because I just got an email from a reader in Peru, Fiorella. She says that it’s probably a celebration for the Peruvian Saint San Martin de Porres. Ya learn something new every day!
OK, so those food challenges freak me out too. My absolute nightmare would involve eating anything 1) alive and 2) wiggly.
Re: movies. Did I tell ya that I watched the new Jake Gyllenhaal movie last Friday, Nightcrawler?
May says
Hi Kim and Karen,
That is a beautiful church. I did a bit of research and it is called “Mission de San Francisco de Asis”. It means “The Mission of Saint Francis of Assisi”. Nov 1st to Nov 2nd means something to Catholics because we celebrate ‘All Saints Day’ and ‘All Souls Day’. The statue looks like St. Francis. Also it is ‘El Dia de Muertos’ which is ‘The Day of the Dead’ and is celebrated on Nov 2nd.
Anyways, hope you had a wonderful weekend. I had to work. 🙁
Hugs from the Great up North.
Kim says
Thanks May & Karen! I know about All Saints and All Souls (former Catholic school gal!) but had no clue about St. Martin de Porres and have never seen a parade or festival like that. It looks so cool. 🙂
Kim says
I’m so with you on the alive and wiggly. People who can do that absolutely amaze me. I have to look away while my eyes water and I try not to gag. Ick.
You did!! It’s getting really good reviews but this is such a busy time for us that I probably won’t see it until it’s on Netflix. One of the boys asked again yesterday if I thought we could possibly see the Maze Runner before it’s out of the theater. It’s unlikely but it’ll be the first movie priority, for his sake. 🙁
Rachel P. says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? – Sort of. I had a doppelganger in college and we looked so similar people would actually call out her name and wave when they saw me, and when they realized it wasn’t her, they got embarrassed and pretended nothing had happened. Eventually we were introduced, and I did see the resemblance- she looked more like the 9th or 10th grade version of me, although we were quite close in age. It wasn’t so identical that it was spooky, but definitely interesting.
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________. – Swim in alligator-infested waters. Or leech-infested. You could offer to pay off all my college tuition and supply me with a lifetime of financial comfort for me and all my loved ones, but you will not get me into that water. I had a dream once about being eaten alive by alligators after falling off a riverboat in Louisiana, and I am equally terrified of leeches. I would consider swimming with sharks though, if the price is right.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? – Not really. They seem to lead sort of an unpleasant existence. Cool mythical creature with kind of a crappy lifestyle.
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? – Love.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? – Such a nice concept, but I don’t wear it! I like teals and turquoise, bluer-leaning greens, etc, and maybe the odd emerald if it’s dark enough to use subtly. But honestly I don’t own any true green eyeshadow, except for in one palette and I never use that shade anyway.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
I would love to know your favorite teal shades! I love wearing teal, too.
Happy Monday!
Rachel P. says
Hi Karen! I love the Nyx trio called “Caipirinhas On The Beach” – the two lighter teal/turquoise shades are great, though the dark blue was less impressive for me. I wore that trio on Halloween and they stayed put nicely with the Nyx Peacock pencil as a base (great creamy turquoise shadow pencil). I also like the look of the teal eyeshadow by Morphe and the Shark Bait shade by Makeup Geek, because I need some teal mattes! I don’t spend as much money on bright eyeshadows because I wear them less frequently- my high-end eyeshadows tend to be more nude! What’s your favorite? And how is Gilmore Girls going? 🙂
Denise S says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
No but occasionally someone will say they know somebody who looks just like me.
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
Sky Dive. Never going on my bucket list, lol
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
They are kinda cool and strong but eating flesh to a deal breaker!!
4. Whats something in your life you had to fight for?
Getting pregnant. I had to insure pain and frustrations to finally be blessed with giving birth to twins!
5.How do you feel about green eye shadow?
I love it! Makes my brown eyes pop! I own multiple shades and can rock them all but my favorite is gold/green shades.
Denise S says
Gee I met to say: 3. Eating flesh is deal breaker.
4. And I had to endure pain and frustrations when I was trying to conceive .
Ali Y says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
Sort-of, I work in an industry where we get a lot of marketing materials from vendors. There was a shot, in profile, of a woman in a spa setting getting a facial and in profile she was my doppelganger. But in the straight-on shots, not at all…
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to:
Eat anchovies – they look hairy and I don’t want to come close.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
No, too much facial hair and I would be tired the next day…
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
My independence. My family was very close-knit and as I got older there were expectations that became stifling.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? Love it if it’s pretty and that is a totally subjective choice. Just purchased the Tom Ford Sahara Haze quad and the green is this rich, somewhere between kelly-and-olive green but with a golden flecks that I am loving!
Estefania says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
I didn’t see it, but I had a friend that would be mistaken for me all the time in high school. I mean, it got to the point where teachers were asking us which one we were. We weren’t related at all!
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
Go to high school again. I didn’t have the best experience (does anyone ever?), and I would never do it again.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
No… I’ve always wondered how much they would spend on clothes. I mean, if you rip them every time you change, you have two options. Go through new clothes every month, or walk around naked until it’s done… Neither of those appeal to me…
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
I’m kind of on the same boat as you, Karen. My parents always had this idea of me working in a lab, and when I called home from college saying I’d changed my major to Philosophy, it got kinda tough haha. Thankfully, I’ve been able to apply my degree in the medical field actually doing something I love, so it worked out! Another thing is racism I guess. As a Mexican immigrant, I’ve run into more racism and stereotyping than I can remember. It took me a while to learn that I don’t have to laugh it off or pretend it didn’t bother me. It’s more than ok to speak up and let people know (politely) that they’re being insensitive.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow?
I like it, but I feel like it has to be an acid green for it to look good on me.
Majick says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? Not really but once they wouldn’t let me into a club because I caused “such a disturbance” the night before. Seriously, I hadn’t been out in a long time and it really ticked me off that I had to argue with the manager that I wasn’t that person. LOL
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to vote republican.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? no
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? almost everything (see #1 lol) but literally/physically – my black belt
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? LOVES IT!
Estefania says
Haahahahaha! I’m right there with you on the republican thing! That made me crack up 🙂
Trude says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
No, but I’ve had people show me photos of women they thought looked just like me. Luckily it was all complimentary. 😉
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
I’m with you on the Fear Factor thing. I absolutely HATE creepy crawly things!
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? Nope, I like being me thank you!
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? A whole new life, really. When I was almost 25, I was laid off (for the second time in two years) and broke up with my boyfriend of 3.5 years. So I moved back in with my parents, dealt with unemployment for 8 months and tried to decide if I wanted to go back to school for teaching (and substituting in the meantime). It was a really tough time and I had to fight to keep depression at bay and to rebuild my life. But I’m definitely a better woman for it!
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? I was more adventurous with it when I was younger, but only do it occasionally now when I have time to really play.
Syah says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
My sisters look pretty similar to me. I’ve had people describe me as a cross between Keira Knightley and Zoe Saldana?! Who knows.
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to eat onion rings. I really don’t like them!
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? Assuming that the alternatives in this ‘universe of werewolf existence’ would be either a human or vampire…yes, I would be a werewolf.
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? To just be myself, accept myself and show the real me to people I love.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? YAY!!!
Rita says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? Not in person but I did see someone in a magazine once that I swore was my twin. Kind of freaky!
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to touch a snake! Or be in the same vacinity as a snake! Shiver!
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? Nope, vampires are way cooler!
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? I had to fight to have my daughter. I have pcos so it was a battle of infertility for years!
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? I’m a neutral shades kinda girl but as long as it’s done tastefully and not just caked on its ok in my book!
Stephanie Smith says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? Lol! Yes! There is an aide at my 3rd graders’s school that I get compared to quite a bit. She’s cute, so it’s a compliment!
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________. Get a job. I know that sounds spoiled, but I’m blessed to be a stay at home Mom. We scrimp and sacrifice and don’t go on many vacations, but raising my kids has been a priveledge and I don’t take it for granted.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? NO! I don’t like that stuff, werewolves and vampires and all that. Plus, I’m hairy enough, enough said.
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? A normal relationship with my parents. No drama, no messy anything, just healthy and normal and happy and easy.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? Like you, khaki and olive only.
breyerchic04 says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? Yep, and she’s my second cousin. So I assume that means I’ll age to look just like her mother and grandmother (since she’s related on my dad’s side)
2. Work in a big box store
3. Nope, too much running I think.
4. Probably not as much as I should have
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? I like those khakis and olives, also some really light greens, but true greens, not really.
kristen @ glambunctious says
Thank you for always doing a Monday poll. Even when I do fill out my answers, I always love to read yours! It’s a beginning of the week mood brightener!
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you? Yes. This girl was maybe 2 yrs younger than me and we went to the same gymnastics school. It was literally horrifyingly embarassing to me! I was a little shy and people were always screaming and pointing out that we looked like twins. We really did, it was super freaky!
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________. be the President. TOO FREAKING STRESSFUL, MON!
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? No. Maybe a hot elf from Rivendell, though.
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? $$$ at work, but it’s always worth it! It taught me to work hard, be proud of myself, and stand up for myself when I found out I was being paid over $50K less than my co-workers at the time (while doing more work). That changed!
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? I love a groovy olive green!
Happy Monday, boo!
kristen @ glambunctious says
PS: Can we please blame all of my type-o action on it being Monday? >_<

Katherine M says
Haven’t done this survey in a while due to working very late…but now I’m on the earlier shift, so here it goes!
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
~Honestly, no, but I’ve had people tell me that I look like someone they know all of the time. And these are strangers.
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.
~I second you on Fear Factor. I’m just warming up to spiders but you couldn’t pay me enough to be in a bucket of those house centipedes or eat worms. House centipedes, for the record, make me scream like a banshee and go all Al Pacino on them…”I want it dead! I want its family dead! I want its friends dead!”
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?
~I think it would be interesting for a night, but never permanently.
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?
~Proving I’m strong. In part because of my looks and personality. I’m tall and skinny (5’7″ and about 125 pounds), so people don’t think that I can lift anything or do stuff like ride a motorcycle even though I run a 6:20 mile (that’s where the long legs and light weight help) and can deadlift 200 pounds. I’m usually a happy-go-lucky, friendly person who would do anything for others, and people take that as having no backbone. The way I see it, when I’ve had to stand up for other people and myself, I did. Otherwise, I don’t see the point in creating unnecessary drama when a situation can be diffused calmly or differently. When I worked in the ER, the really confrontational, no-filter nurses were the ones who got punched by the psych patients. I can proudly say that I could diffuse all situations without resorting to MMA or sharp words except for with the really psychotic, on-major-drugs patients.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow?
~I love it! I’ve learned with any eye shadow, it needs to be blended and applied correctly. I can wear just about any color, but pastels can look very harsh on me. I like to use them as an accent color. I think the olive/red skin can make them look chalky.
Debra says
1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?
In my humble opinion, no. But in my younger years, I was told too many times that I looked just like Terri Garr. Recently, we were watching season 1 of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (love Illya!) and Dear Husband said that the young (young) Jill Ireland looks like me. We have the same-shaped eyes with the epithelial fold.
one in a magazine once that I swore was my twin. Kind of freaky!
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to – work in an office again! I just made this affirmative statment to a friend on Friday.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf? It’s the teeth that are the big turn-off for me!
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for? Yes, getting a hold of those car keys after getting a hold of the symbolic car to my life. Good practice for success no matter where.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? Olive green, teal, MAC Humid. I tried a spinach shade once but it was not worth the fallout!

5. How do you feel about green eye shadow? I’ve never given it much thought, it’s not a shade I would typically reach for, but why not?

1. Have you ever seen someone who looks just like you?-I would say no, but at work, I used to get regularly mixed up with a staff person that worked at one of the other programs. It would crack me up how easily people got us confused. In my mind, I didn’t think we looked alike.
2. I don’t care. You couldn’t pay me enough to __________.-Go skydiving. It’s just not my thing–there are plenty of other ways to experience a thrill besides jumping out of a plane.
3. Would you want to be a werewolf?-Not particularly. What’s the appeal of being a werewolf?
4. What’s something in your life you had to fight for?-Hmmmm…I’ve had to fight to live according to my values and principles and not just conform to what everyone else thinks/everyone else is doing. Basically I’ve had to fight for my individuality and the right to do what I feel is right. I also feel that I’ve had to fight to maintain a positive attitude and not give in to negativity and cynicism about people.
5. How do you feel about green eye shadow?-I LOVE it! I wear it pretty regularly; I think it’s really flattering on my dark brown eyes. I prefer olive greens and khaki greens, though.

Two ships we are Miss Karen. I went sightseeing in SF with my parents and we even stumbled through Mission, ugh. I kept my eyes peeled with the hope our paths would finally cross. Alas. Your city is beautiful and I even got to geek out at MAC over on Powell.

Oh, Karen, please don’t say that since I’m a ‘certain age’ (20 years older than you, BTW!) I have to stop wearing bright green eyeshadow! The shade ‘Dragon’ is the real reason why I purchased Vice 3, and ‘Freak’ is my favorite shadow in the Electric Palette, I even purchased it as an eyeliner! I’m wearing one of the greens from the Smashbox On The Rocks Luxe palette today! I can never get enough bright, shimmery shades of green, lol!
