You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past seven years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
Nobody really famous, but when I was a kid and we’d go to Disneyland, I’d walk up to Minnie Mouse with my autograph book and be like, “Excuse me, Ms. Minnie? Would you please sign my book??”That was a really big deal for me because I was very shy.
- What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
Well, the other day I was doing some cleaning, and I found my old Blackberry from 2007. I didn’t test it out, but I’m pretty sure it still works. - What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
I ALWAS have to have Wet Ones Wipes with me. I am that freaky lady who wipes down her tray table on the plane, the armrests, and when I get to the hotel I give everything a once over.I actually just did that right now, haha! 🙂
- Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
“Draw me like one of your French girls.”No.
- What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
I am pro rhinestones on nails. I’m a strong supporter, but I do believe that they shouldn’t be a rhinestone free-for-all. I think it should be regulated rhinestones.
Your turn. 🙂 Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Save the cheerleader, save the world…
Your burning beauty questions for Hayden Panettiere! I needs them! I have a short interview with Hayden, who’s a Neutrogena Brand Ambassador, here in Nashville this afternoon. Should I ask her about skin care, color products, or what her makeup routine is like on the show, Nashville? Lookin’ for help with question ideas…
I can’t guarantee what I’ll be able to ask, but I’ll try to get as many questions answered as possible. I can be very persistent, so ya never know… 🙂
Just leave your questions here in the comments for me because I’ll be checking the blog all the way up till the interview starts.

Karen, I hope it is not too late…(I am on the West Coast!!)
Please can you ask Hayden Panettiere:
1) what she uses for her hair? Shampoo, conditioner..etc? I have curly hair so I really want to know who she manages hers!
2) What are her travel must haves in her cosmetic/skincare bag?
Thank you!!

1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
This was probably 6 years ago. I went to a meet and greet that The New Cities had at a clothing store with my two of my best friends because they were obsessed with them and we got all of their autographs.
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
I have a CD player from 2004. It’s still in my room and still works perfectly.
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
I always keep Wet Ones in my purse or school bag on an everyday basis because you never know when you’ll need one. I also always have lip balm and hand cream on me at all times.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
Yes, my best friend from high school is in graphic design. She used to draw pictures of me because she always liked my curly hair and my facial expressions.
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
I personally wouldn’t wear them because I like my nails to looked sleek and polished. If it’s done right it can look nice.
Kylie says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
Nooo, but I am super awkward when I see famous people. (Poor Jason Alexander!)
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
Our house is styled vintage-chic. We have a huge 8-track player, record player, and victrola.
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
I also always bring Wet Wipes with me to wipe my hands, but I’m not a germ-freak who wipes down remotes, etc. 😉
I also always bring super-nourishing hand cream when I travel west.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
Yes, my mom and I were in a weird town in Connecticut and a man offered to sketch my face for $5. It looked nothing like me!
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
Not for me!
Shannon says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
Totes did that in Disneyland when I was little… Now I do it at concerts, when I buy a physical CD and the artist is also right there (sometimes).
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
hmm… I think we used to have an 8-track recorder, but I think the oldest piece we have now is the original Nintendo (Mario FTW!)
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
a good lip balm – preferably a Lip Butter from the Muddy Moose (on Etsy). That stuff does WONDERS for lips, always soothing, never makes my lips patchy, and also doubles as a cuticle cream (can also take care of rough spots, if you don’t happen to have any lotion on you). #magic
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
Actually, yes! My sister did a sketch of me – well, she copied a photo, for a pointillism project. Very cool.
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
They can totally be tasteful. Mostly, though, I like them on other people – they’re not really for me.
Jeanie says
(sigh) Downtown Nashville (or Nashvegas as I call it). Lived there for 25 years. Ya know. I don’t ask for autographs for famous people out and about. But I do have authors sign my books. Is that the same?
I’m a new reader…who isn’t fond of rhinestones. Sorry, I’m having flashbacks of Nashville in the 1980s… Hahahahahahaahaha!
Kristina says
Ooh, cool!!! Here are some questions I would have for Hayden:
– what skincare products do you use?
– is your gorgeous golden tan real, from sunless tanner, or achieved through makeup?
– how does it make you feel when you look at the results of a photo shoot you did and see they were heavily Photoshopped?
– what is your favorite TV or movie project you’ve ever worked on and why?
– what role or scene took the longest for you to get fully into costume and makeup for, and how long did it take? When your character survived intense fires in Heroes, were the burns all done by computer or did they use makeup and prosthetics as well?
Have fun, Karen! This sounds exciting!
Vineetha says

3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
Wet Wipes all the way.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
No. I wish!
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?

Stephanie Smith says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph? Yes! Gary Coleman at the East/West Shrine game in 1992! Lol!
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)? I think there might be a tape player around here somewhere…
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel? Lip balm, traveling makes my lips dry, so it’s all lip balm all the time. I’ve got tubes and balls stashed everywhere!
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you? Lol! Yeah, the husband has sketched a few pictures! Plus lots of drawings by the kids.
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails? Love them on other people, I would pick them off my nails in 5 seconds. But they have to be tasteful, I’m not a fan of long and tacky!
Keturah says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
I’ll sound so tame and boring but… no. I guess I haven’t seen anyone famous enough to do that. And if it was just a cute guy I couldn’t be that forward. (But isn’t it a great idea, “Hi, um, could I have your autograph, just to have a name to go with your face and number?” I’m such a cheeseball.)
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
One of those old cell phones, non-smart phones from 2001. And yes, it still works.
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
I always travel with Ponds cleansing cloths because they not only take off makeup, but they are the most insanely amazing stain removers. I once got chocolate on my white blouse. A quick scrub with the miracle cleaning cloth and it was absolutely gone, with no damage to the blouse. These clothes have saved my face, clothes, and a posh hotel comforter, countless times.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
Yes. My best friend in college was an art major. She sketched me laughing. However, she never gave me the sketch. She probably painted over me. When she’s famous and they x-ray the canvas and find my face, I’ll be like the Mona Lisa… that mysterious woman, who is she?
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
As long as it’s classy and not crazy, I’m all for it. I love those itsy, bitsy rhinestones that you can apply to the bottom of the nail, right over the nail’s moon. Super pretty!
Trude says
I’d ask her about removing makeup after taping or events! Or maybe how her skincare routine has changed in the last ____ years? 🙂
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph? Only after a show, when they’re out doing that. Living near LA, I’ve seen several celebrities but hate to bother them in their downtime!
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)? Probably my vintage Kitchenaid mixer, or my combo DVD/VHS player that I keep just in case I want to play the original version of Star Wars. 🙂
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel? Aveda Hand Relief. It’s the BEST hand cream!
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you? Don’t think so?
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails? It can be cute but I always manage to chip them off immediately.
Erin says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph? No, but I did send a letter to Joss Whedon asking for an autograph. Oh, actually, I did ask Cinderella for her autograph in my Girl Scouts autograph book at Disneyworld.
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)? Hmm… our TV is from about 1998, I think. Still works!
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel? Anti-bac gel. Not just when I travel. I clean my waterbottle with it before I drink, too.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you? My parents had my portrait drawn in Montmartre one time. It was very flattering to have it done, but I was in 8th grade at the time, so the portrait wasn’t particularly lovely!
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails? No. Glitter yes, rhinestone no. I want to say yes, because I do love crystals, but I think they usually end up looking tacky and they get in the way. Then again, the one time I had fake nails put in, I think they lasted about 12 hours, so maybe I don’t have enough patience for it.
Grace says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
Yes! Ryan Renoylds was filming a movie in my town a few years ago, and I got an autograph + picture with him.
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
Oh wow…I have a ton of old VCR tapes, a super old sewing machine, and some very old flip phones from the late 90’s.
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
My face always gets pretty dry when I fly, so I always bring a travel-size tube of MAC Strobe Cream. Also lots of Baby Lips.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
My best friend is a super talented artist, so yes 🙂
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
Go for it, gurl!!!
Sylirael says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph? Not walked up to them, but I did go and get Terry Pratchett’s autograph when he came here for a book signing.
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)? In our current apartment, it’d be my original game boy from ~1994. In my parents’ house I think there’s a radio from like the ’50s or something!
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel? Lip balm, for sure. Probably followed by Purell, depending on where I’m going.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
I believe a street artist did a pencil sketch of me when I was a kid. No idea where it is, though, sadly!
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails? Love it! But I prefer small ones as a feature of another nail design, rather than just rhinestones for rhinestones’ sake!
Erin says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
Only at Disneyland when I was 11!
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
Probably this laptop I’m typing on right now!
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
Deodorant? Lip Balm? Toothpaste? How can you choose one?!?!
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
Oh yes, quite a few times!
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
It’s not for me but whatever floats your boat is ok by me!
Katherine M says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
~Yes, I met Jane Seymour (of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman fame) at the Columbia Grand Prix in Howard County, MD. Got to see some famous riders and horses I looked up to, but she was the Grand Marshal and one of my idols for a long time.
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
~Hmmmm…that’s a tough one. Probably my mp3, I got it in 2007 and it’s still working pretty well.
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
~I have to have stuff in case I get zits. If I skimp on skin care even one day I pay for it. I need to have benzoyl peroxide and retinol with me at all times.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
~Someone once drew me for an art class (no not nude!).
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
~Don’t like it – can look very tacky.
Kim says
Happy Tuesday! I hope you’re loving Nashville! 🙂
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph? I have not. I can’t really imagine a situation where I would do that. If I see someone famous, I usually try not to even look in their direction. I would hate strangers coming up to me like they know me, so I wouldn’t put someone else in that position. This is for random sightings, btw. If I was at a book signing or event where someone was set up to do autographs, I’d be fine with getting in line. 🙂
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)? One of each, actually! The kids sometimes play with an old 80s Walkman, too. We even have a couple of small, box style TVs.
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel? Only one? I’m going to have to say tweezers. I know they’re not a liquid, but I always have a pair.
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you? Not that I recall.
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails? I say anything goes on nails. I can’t even be bothered to polish mine but I’m all for people personalizing theirs however they see fit. 🙂
Estefania says
1. Have you ever walked up to someone and asked for their autograph?
No one important, haha! I also have my Disney autograph book somewhere in my parents’ house.
2. What’s the oldest piece of working technology in your home (record player, tape recorder, etc.)?
We have a VCR that still plays all of our old Disney movies! I also have a working Gameboy Advance that I may or may not still use for Pokemon playing purposes.
3. What’s one essential personal care product (cuticle oil, Wet Ones Wipes, a particular hand cream, Purell, etc.) that you have to have with you when you travel?
As of late, Argan Oil! I’ve been using that ish as a moisturizer, cuticle oil, hair oil, and lip balm! It’s amazing!
4. Has anyone ever painted, drawn or sketched a picture of you?
Once, at Sea World. It’s this big portrait of my whole family and it’s really goofy and I love it.
5. What’s your stance on wearing rhinestones on nails?
I love it! I usually don’t because ain’t nobody got time fo dat, but they look so pretty!
