You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past six years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?
Oh, so many to choose from, but I look forward to Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Stars every year…even if my waistline does not. 🙂Whatevs… Waistline just needs to deal. I’d rather indulge and then run an extra mile or two.
- How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
My lashes are normally pretty average — stick straight, no curl to speak of, and not particularly long or thick — unlike El Hub’s, which are AMAZING.I swear, boys get the best lashes… It’s just not fair.
Anyways, yeah, I can usually tell when a mascara hits the sweet spot for me when it holds a curl from my lash curler, makes me go “OooOOOoooh” when I see it on in the mirror for the first time, and it doesn’t smudge or flake.
While I don’t like drama in my personal life, I need it from my mascaras. BRING IT!
- What’s one thing you do really well?
Uh…sleep?LOL! I can sleep through almost anything — thunderstorms, earthquakes, concerts. I’m a deeeeep sleeper, and once I’m out, I AM OUT.
- Is it snowing where you live?
Almost. It almost never snows here in Marin County (just north of the Golden Gate Bridge). Maybe once a smidgen every 10 years or so. It gets cold — like down around the upper 20s for a couple weeks a year — but it rarely snows. - What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
Cat treats. Are cat treats weird…? There are a couple of new kitties in our neighborhood, and I’m hell bent on befriending them.
Food is the fastest path to feline friendship! Hmm… I should put that on a bumper sticker.
- Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
Sometimes. The dress code here at the home offices of Tabs the Cat Industries, LLC, does occasionally call for dressy attire. 😉 - Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
If it’s a crowd of short people, LOL! Or if I’m waving my phone above my head like a maniac to get your attention. I’m pretty short. - What’s your best over-protective parent story?
Once in high school when a boy came over to take me out on a date, my dad was doing some yard work in the back yard.He invited the guy back there for a “quick chat.” While they were there, my dad went through his regular list of non-negotiables (no drinking and driving, missing curfew, etc.) while swinging a huge axe back and forth in front of the poor kid’s face.
I was mortified at the time…but now I just think it was just hilarious!
- Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
Right now? YSL Touche Eclat in 4.5 and Kate Sommerville Anti-Bac Clearing Lotion. - What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
El Hub and I had a really lovely, relaxing Saturday night. We turned on the Comcast Yule Log channel on the TV, listened to Christmas music and read books by the faux fireplace. It was so nice…
Now it’s your turn. Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em! 🙂

1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?
Uh, I’m not sure, actually. Oh! Gingersnaps!
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
I have to use tubing mascaras or it’s raccoon city! I LOVE drama, but it’s hard to achieve that way.
3. What’s one thing you do well?
I can, uh, make a mean muffin!
4. Is it snowing where you live?
Not yet, but it’s in the forecast! It doesn’t usually snow here, though (Seattle).
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
Um, it’s not that weird, I guess, but I usually have an extra pair of contacts, lol.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
Not usually.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
Probably not – I’m not so tall, haha.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story?
Ugh, I have tons. Can’t pick and don’t really want to relive those days, lol!
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
I need a new nighttime eye cream T_T Not sure what I want to buy.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
It was a nice, relaxing weekend here, too. I got to sleep in! That was noteworthy.

This is my first Monday Poll…happy Monday!
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?
I LOVE Starbucks Caramel Brule Latte, it’s what I look forward to during the holiday season. Also all the other holiday treats around this time of the year. Christmas is the one time of year (for me) where it’s justified to eat all these treats 🙂
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
When the MAC girls asks me which set of fake lashes I’m wearing.
3. What’s one thing you do well?
I’ve been told I give really good advice or that I’m that go to person when they need to talk/vent.
4. Is it snowing where you live?
Ohhhhh yes it is, it’s Canada of course! In the month of November we received half the amount of snowfall for all of winter. We can get up to 30 cm at a time.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
I haven’t done this yet but I want to start keeping a pair of tweezers. I hate looking in the mirror and seeing that one stray hair that needs to be plucked asap!
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
I don’t really wear eye shadow to work because in the morning it means an extra 10 minutes of sleep. I leave the smokey eye for an event on weekends.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
Yes I am. I’m tall so easy to spot and I’ve been told that I can be picked out of a crowd because of my hair.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story?
I became a mama bear at the park this last summer when I thought some older kid almost ran over my son with his bike. At least the kid apologized 🙂
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
Yes….all of them from MAC! Studio fix powder, eye brow pencil, blush, mascara…
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
My husband and I had some wine, made a gingerbread house while listening to Christmas music. We also started our list of Christmas movies to watch….starting with Home Alone and Polar Express!

Though I have to finish up my bio homework (sigh) and don’t have time to do your lovely questions, I just wanted to say that I so admire your fabulous writing- you have such a good voice and while your blog is also very informative, it is also a pleasure to read. I love that I can hear your humor and great personality through all the words that you write and I thank you and congratulate you for coming such a long way in the beauty blog world and for sharing your wonderfulness with us! <3

Thank you so much for this, Alexandra. It was so kind and meant a lot to me. I hope your bio homework went well, and have a wonderful week. 🙂

Happy Monday, all!
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats? Every year around Christmas, my mom makes all kinds of yummy breads–banana nut, poppy-seed, and my ABSOLUTE favorite, cranberry bread. It soooooo tastes like Christmas to me!
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you? I have long, but rather fine lashes. If the mascara volumizes well, without making them clumpy and spidery, I love it forever!
3. What’s one thing you do well? I am a master of the art of the “work around.” There’s always a way to get around a “no” answer!
4. Is it snowing where you live? Not right now, but we had snow and ice here yesterday, and it was wonderful! Unfortunately, its just now becoming the inevitable slushy, dirty mess.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? Another smaller purse! I am terrible at cleaning out purses, and will throw EVERYTHING in there. Awhile ago, I decided to cure myself of this by only carrying small clutches or wristlets. That solution lasted about a week before I ended up keeping the immaculate wristlet inside of a larger, black-hole, who the hell knows what’s in there bag!
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? Not really dark smoky eyes, but a bronzy-browny smokey eye pretty regularly.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? I’m not really sure–I’d certainly like to think that I stand out, but I suspect that is not necessarily the case!
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? My dad was a cop in the town I lived in. The very first party that I went to and was drinking at, was busted by my dad. He was tipped off by my mom, who used to quietly sit amongst the students rather than the parents at high school sporting events, etc. and listen to gossip, upcoming parties, etc. I was written an alcohol citation by my father at this party!
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? Actually, I just re-purchased my beloved Nars tinted moisturizer last weekend.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? Its funny, I went to a big blow-out holiday party on Saturday night, but the actual highlight of the weekend was yesterday’s snow day–my daughter and I baked cookies, watched back to back Christmas movies, and then played in the snow for awhile. It was a perfect day!

1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?
I can’t think of a holiday treat right now. I’m not too keen on peppermint and other holiday seasonal goodies that come out this time of year.
I guess eating a bunch of sweets is the bad habit this time of year…
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
I’m really particular about mascara. Sometimes I don’t wear it (even though I want to!) because it’s a pain to take off. My holy grail is: holds the curl I made fairly well, thickens, defines, and doesn’t smudge under my eye due to the day’s oils migrating.
The Too Faced “Better than false lashes” I won from you is FANTASTIC! I just use the mascara because the fibers are too much for me. It needs eye make up remover, but it really does everything I want it to. 🙂
3. What’s one thing you do well?
Clean? I love to clean. The Man is a little irritated by it, so I clean on Mondays, while he’s at work. (he hates it when I vacuum.) There’s just that satisfied feeling from having a clean dwelling. The sheets are changed, the laundry is clean and put away, and the apt. is dusted, vacuumed, and mopped. And the purging of unnecessary items makes me feel even better 😀
4. Is it snowing where you live?
Oh, I wish it did! It snowed on the NW part of Vegas this past week, but nothing over here on the eastern part. Oh well. It’s still cold cold, and I guess the snow would have made people drive even dumber. *sigh*
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
A sharpie? People always give me a second look, but it has come in handy sometimes. 🙂 “Oh, whhhhaaaat?! A Sharpie?! Camille is gonna tag it up in here.” hahahh.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
No. No. No. I’m headed to the MAC counter this Saturday, and I hope the artist I get gives me some easy pointers on how to do eye make up. I’ll experiment next week with the eye make up. I’ve been putting it off too long, Karen! haha. I have some photos of looks you have done, so I think I’ll try to recreate those.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
If you’re looking at the shoes, yes. I have small feet. hahhaha. I’m only 4’11”, so you’d have to find me by my feet or call my name so I can jump up, or wave erratically. 😀
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story?
It’s really sad, but my sister and I didn’t get to go out as often when we were teenagers. My mom….gosh, my mom. I guess when The Man and I talked with my parents about my moving in with him. She started to cry and ask him if he was going to take care of me and that I’m her baby.
I was 26. hahha. We’re obviously still together, but she still asks if he takes care of me.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
Not at the moment. I’m pretty stocked up on the usual everyday stuff.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
Before going into Trader Joe’s, there was a pet store that had a puppy sale, next door.
OHMYGOSH!!!! Bulldogs, a Shiba Inu, and Beagles! 🙁 Such cuties! The best part: later that night, The Man said, “We can get a dog in this apt. if it doesn’t bark that much.” Ugh. That means I have to train it. But he said we could get a dog in the apt.! I gotta research before I commit to a loving animal!
Happy Monday Kare Bear and Tabs! As mentioned above, we went to Trader Joe’s. I picked up the scrub trio and I’m super stoked to use it today. I also picked up banana chocolate chip muffins that are delish. You’re very persuasive, Karen. hahha. I’m headed back to TJ’s to get some bacon wrapped scallions and other goodies.
Steph says
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats? I am a big fan of peppermint bark. I tend to make my own along with other goodies like rocky road. I give most of it away so I’m not tempted! And also so hubs is not either!
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you? When it makes me look a brilliant times more awake and creates a near false lash effect. Le Volume de Channel has rocked my world for the last year.
3. What’s one thing you do well? Without sounding cocky I feel I do my job well. I am a hairstylist and adore my work. I love to make people feel and look amazing it is completely gratifying. My husband would also say I roast one he’ll of a chicken too

7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? My cut and color are a bit unique so I suppose I am, but I am not overly tall and Amazonian by any stretch of the imagination. Just average height.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? My mom once introduced herself as mother to my high school crush. I was mortified but got over it. Generally my folks trusted me, even when I began dating this guy who was 7 years older than their 18 year old (at the time) daughter. I made mum and dad meet him first and needless to say they liked him as he has been my husband for over 7 years!
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? I am in dire need of cleansing water to remove my makeup at night. I know I have two huge bottles of Sephora cleansing water waiting for me Christmas day, but I may need to wrestle one of those away asap! Aside from that there are many NEW shiny things I desperately want but do not “need”
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? On Friday we stayed home bc the weather was miserable and assembled our new tv stand. We cleaned alot of old furniture out and looked and some new stuff. Our house is in chaos right now as we are having our bathroom remodeled. I haven’t been able to decorate as much as I want to bc of the dust factor. So I did a little holiday baking and napping which felt wonderful.

7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? Nope. I’m short too!
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? On a family vacation down the shore, my older cousin and I started talking to a cute boy at the beach, and we made plans to meet on the boardwalk that evening. Mind you, I was 17 and my cousin was 21, so it’s not like we were 12 or whatever, we were basically adults! And we were meeting in public with plenty of people around, so reasonably safe. Anyway, we’re talking to this guy and I look down the boardwalk…about 20 feet away there’s my mom AND my aunt (my cousin’s mom) perched on a bench, watching us like hawks! We almost died. I have so many other stories but that one is a classic.

1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats? Gosh, everything. I love Christmas cookies, though. And pumpkin pie. And just everything, really.

3. What’s one thing you do well? Everything! 😛
4. Is it snowing where you live? Ugh, yes. I opened my curtains this morning to see the snow pouring down. What a bummer. And, since it’s 2 degrees F outside, there’s no chance it’ll melt anytime soon.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? I have this game called Story Cubes that I always keep in my purse. You never know when you might want to play a story-telling game.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? Well, I work from home. So, yes!

8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? When I was 6 and had just learned how to ride my bike, I wiped out in a bunch of gravel and messed up my knee. I walked into the kitchen all nonchalant and was like, “I think I need a band-aid,” and my mom just flipped out. She always freaked whenever I got hurt and I was always like, “meh.” She’d worry like a mother hen.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? Not that I kind think of. I just restocked recently.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? I saw Frozen! It was great! And went to a friends for pulled pork and homemade egg nog, which was delicious.

5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? Febreeze, maybe? I don’t know if that’s weird. You just never know if you’re going to end up somewhere stinky.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? Only if I rub them by mistake.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? If we’re walking, yes. I have a bouncy, distinctive walk.

1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?
I love the red and green wrapped Hershey kisses. I know they’re the same kisses as the rest of the year, but there’s something special about that seasonal wrapping!
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
Something lengthening. I unfortunately have short, thin, stumpy lashes 🙁 And agreed– my boyfriend has long, thick, gorgeous lashes! So unfair!
3. What’s one thing you do well?
I am an excellent planner. I love setting schedules for my days (at work or off) and checking off completed tasks. I also plan vacations really well, from good deals on hotels/airfare to cool activities once we arrive.
4. Is it snowing where you live?
There’s a touch of snow on the ground, but ICE is the bigger problem. My entire car and driveway are covered in a sheet of ice.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
I guess a lot of people don’t keep a toothbrush and toothpaste, which I always do.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
Nah– sometimes light pink smokey eye, though!
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
Not really. I’m short, pale, and don’t have any distinguishable features!
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story?
None of my stories are “great.” My dad was incredibly overbearing/overprotective and it was always annoying/held me back…
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
Not right now. I just placed an order for eyeliner I needed. I do want to buy eye cream, however, something I never have before.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
Going out to celebrate’s my friend’s birthday. We had a great time!

2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you? When It lengthens, separates and feels natural. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect one.
3. What’s one thing you do well? Cook and bake. I find it therapeutic and love to do it for others.
4. Is it snowing where you live? Yes and it’s cold, very cold.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? A matchbox car. I have small kids.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? I’m a stay at home mom, so yes I would. My kids don’t mind and my husband would love it.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? I have been told I have a big smile and my big curly hair helps.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? The first time I stayed out late. My mom was waiting for me out front our house. I was 17 or 18. It was like 1 am. She was fuming and the funny thing was I had a legit reason to be home late.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? Mascara and a hd foundation. A lot of my stash is old. I could make a whole list. hahaha
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? We mostly finished our kids christmas shopping. I bought more ornaments for our tree. My husband was home, he’d just got back from a business trip. We got our kids snow boots, my daughters is hello kitty. I’m jelly. I made a tasty dinner for our friends and us. It was smoked gouda mashed potatoes, pork chops with a cilantro walnut pesto, butter leaf lettuce salad with homemade vinaigrette and homemade garlic foccacia bread. Yum!

I love the owl ornament!
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats? Sugar cookies!
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you? Doesn’t itch, flake, clump, smudge, look cakey or spidery, and adds some good length and volume. No funny smelling mascaras either!
3. What’s one thing you do well? Sleep, speak French.
4. Is it snowing where you live? Yes! We got about an inch last night.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? usually a pocket knife! It’s something my dad says you should always have around. He buys me pretty ones – I had a really nice metallic rainbow one for a while.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? Nope! I don’t like dark smoky eyes on me in general.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? Yes. Upsides of being a redhead and above-average height!
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? Oh man, your story reminds me of when my parents took guardianship of our babysitter because his parents abandoned him. Anyway, he was going to pick up his homecoming date, and the guy’s just sitting at the table sharpening knives.
Once I was playing on the swingset and a snake hissed at me and came up like a cobra. I ran away crying and my dad says to my mom “GET MY MACHETE. No one scares my little girl like that!” and took care of it.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? Not at the moment. I have a couple moisturizers I’ve been trying, but I might end up going back to the one I was using before (I think what I’m trying might be breaking me out) so I might need to re-purchase that.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? I went to the mall to meet up with some of my cousins! My cousin Danielle was taking her girls (Madison, 6, and Sophia, 1.5) to get their pictures taken with Santa, and my cousin’s wife Stefanie and their 1.5 week old baby Dylan was there too, along with Gaby (13), my cousin’s other daughter. It was so nice to see them all! Sophia kept running off to Sephora, and following around the guy from the Humane Society who was dressed like a dog.

9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? I really don’t wear makeup that often so I’m good.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? Kind of cheesy but my hubby is the strong silent type, but lately he has been very vocal about how much he loves & appreciates me so I’m kind of feeling like I won the spousal lottery at the moment.
Let says
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats? Pies! Used to be eggnog latte, but my tolerance for (too-)sweet stuff has been going downhill
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you? As long as it doesn’t smudge, it’s fine for me.

9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? If MAC Brush Cleanser counts, then yes. I might also need to buy a facial scrub.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? Running into a friend I haven’t seen the whole quarter 🙂
Daanielle says
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?
I live for peppermint ice cream. Live for it. Also, pumpkin cheesecake at Thanksgiving and Mom’s easier version of baked Alaska at Christmas: graham cracker crust, peppermint ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and cherries on top.
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
My lashes are long and semi-curled on their own, so anything that adds volume and emphasizes that makes me happy. Also, I wear contacts so absolutely no flaking.
3. What’s one thing you do well?
I wrap presents like a pro. I get yelled at for using all the tape, but my presents are always shiny and covered with ribbons and bows and all the pretty things.
4. Is it snowing where you live?
Ugh. Yes. Well, it did yesterday. The first real, “break out the snow plows” snow of the year. And if it could be isolated to the grass, I’d be cool, but this driving nonsense really ruins things for me.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
USB cables. Is that weird? I work for a tech company and usually have 2-3 cell phones and an iPad in there for work, so being able to charge all those gadgets is necessary.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
Sometimes. Our dress code is pretty lax, so I can do what I want. That said, I’m lazy, so for the sake of time, I usually keep it pretty casual.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
I hate to sound conceited, but yeah. I stand 5’9″ with my usual heels on. I have uber white skin, dark hair and I’m usually wearing dressier clothing and makeup than most people. If it’s summer, I’m in a dress.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story?
My parents are pretty liberal and stuck with a hands-off approach. The most overprotective Dad ever got (to me, at least) was asking if I was dating a guy in high school, because we were hanging out a lot and not always with other friends. There were raised eyebrows at short skirts and visible midriff and curfews I thought were too early, but nothing crazy.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
Need to? I have eleventy billion bottles, pans and tubes of everything in my bathroom. Want to? You bet’cha.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
I kept things pretty low-key, but I bought some fabulous new leggings, ordered Naked 3 and busted out the Holiday decorations.
Shannon says
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?
White chocolate covered pretzels! those things are the SHIZ.NIT.
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
Buildable volume (without getting clumpy) in deepest darkest WHAMMO sort of black is best for me, though it’s surprisingly hard to find! My eyelashes are usually long and curly enough on their own, no matter what mascara I use – I consider myself SUPER lucky.
3. What’s one thing you do well?
Hugs. I love hugging people. And it’s something I always have in adundance and am willing to share, even when I’m tired or cranky or sad. Okay, maybe not so much when I’m cranky. But really, most of the time. 🙂
4. Is it snowing where you live?
It was yesterday! It was MAGICAL, but oh-so-cold, lol! I really hope it actually gets snowy in NYC this year. It didn’t so much last year (the first winter I lived here) and I was so disappointed!
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
Staff paper – to write music on.
It’s actually this super cute little handmade, spiral-bound book that my friend made for me, out of a massive book of staff paper my mom got for me in college. It’s AMAZING.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
Not usually. I’ll sometimes go for a non-black smokey eye (blue, green, brown, gold) but not a deep, dark, smoked-out-black look.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
Haha, probably not! Unless I’m wearing something especially bright.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story?
oh gosh… This one time, my parents caught me walking alone, down the street, with a boy who liked me. They were in the family van, and stopped on the road, made me get in the car, and we just ABANDONED the poor boy! He was mad at me afterwards for not standing up and saying anything to my parents, but man… I was just NOT an arguer at that point in my life. Needless to say, we’re not still together 🙂 haha. I still feel SO BAD about that, though!
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
Benefit’s Dandelion, probably mascara (I’ve been using the Korres Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara, but it might be time to check out Benefit’s BadGal Lash again…)
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
Getting to spend time with my in-laws! They came down to the city, so we’ve been able to hang with them the last few days.
Natasha says

Any rich Christmas bread with lots of butter and marzipan.
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
When it doesn’t fall off my lashes into a giant raccoon puddle.
3. What’s one thing you do well?
Bake bread.
4. Is it snowing where you live?
We don’t get snow in San Diego…but it is snowing in NYC which is where the in-laws are and where I’ll be spending X-Mas
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
Sketchbook and pen.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
If I’m working a party, sure!
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
Red hair is always easy to spot in a crowd! LOL!
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story?
It was after my first semester at college and I was visiting a boyfriend in his dorm-room (he went to college in my hometown and my school’s winter break was earlier than his)… we were talking in his room when the Dorm mother banged on the door asking if I were there… my mother had panicked and called to the dorm to try to locate me…it was 5 minutes past midnight. I was totally mortified and annoyed. Needless to say, I went home post haste and by summertime, I had my own apartment.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
Shampoo and conditioner… not sure I want full sizes or just a ton of travel ones since we’ll be travelling soon.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
The festival that was supposed to be held outdoors was moved indoors! It was raining and cold outside but we had a vendor party inside!
Stacey says
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?
Cherry Surprize balls are a family classic. As is my mom’s gingerbread and fruitcake (which I love ONLY if it doesn’t have currants).
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
I like a drier formula, so if it is goopy coming out of the tube, I am already turned off. My lashes are already long, so if it provides definition and volume, I am happy.
3. What’s one thing you do well?
Bake!
4. Is it snowing where you live?
AH, I live in the one snowless part of Canada annnnd it is snowing today. Should be gone by the afternoon, but I am unimpressed!
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse?
Like 15 pens. I have really nice pens that I use for editing, and for my own writing and I can’t leave them at home because my husband will lose them. Can’t leave them at work for fear that someone will think that they are office pens. So, I carry them around.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work?
I haven’t figured out a smokey eye… one day.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd?
Maybe. I am tall and wear glasses, my hair used to have some purple which made me more distinctive.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story?
My parents were never really over-protective. I grew up in a small, northern community and though we travelled south to the big cities often, my parents were never really worried about us not being able to take care of ourselves. I do remember one time I was downtown with friends, I was probably 11 or 12 and a man approached me and made me repeat a prayer to be ‘saved.’ My mom happened to walk out of the bookstore we were in front of in the middle of me nervously repeating stuff. She asked me what I was doing and the man told her that he was saving me. Mom ignored him, looked at me and said, “Do you want ME to save you?” and we walked away.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
Not yet, I feel pretty stocked up.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
I rearranged my apartment. Man it feels twice as big!

1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats?Ghirardelli peppermint bark! MMMmmm!!

My husband and I are getting along really well and the weekend was just REALLY nice! MMMmmmmmm, love that. 🙂
Rachel P says
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats? – Pumpkin spice lattes, hot chai apple cider (or “chaider”, as it is known :P), peppermint anything!
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you? – I have pretty long, fairly curly lashes- they’re just not dark at all, so you can’t see them on their own. Getting a mascara with lots of volume and dark pigments does the trick. I can make most volumizing mascaras work for me, as long as they don’t clump or leave me with a spiderweb lash effect!
3. What’s one thing you do well? – It’s a tie between speaking French and cooking eggs.
4. Is it snowing where you live? – YES. It has been completely winter whiteout here in Northern Michigan. I don’t think it’s stopped snowing the last 2 or 3 days. I might have to hit the slopes tomorrow!
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? – Lifesavers Wint-O-Green mints! I guess it’s not THAT weird, but they are those white donut-shaped mints in the individual clear packaging. So I’m not being a normal person and carrying a tin of mints or pack of gum, because I just like the Wint-O-Greens so much better, lol!
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? – Not really dark, no. Unfortunately, my work atmospheres are a bit conservative! The darkest I dare would be rich browns, or medium jewel tones if I want a color pop… I wouldn’t dare do a dark gray or blackened smokey eye. I do use those dark colors in my liner at work, as long as it’s subtle, like a gently-flicked cateye.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? – Yes, I imagine so. I’m quite tall, even taller in heels, love wearing bold outfits and hairstyles… and I can be a bit loud of voice as well! No losing me in a crowd.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? – One time in high school, an older boy I had a crush on asked me to go to a big concert downstate with him and his friend. My mom wasn’t going to allow me to go, but at the last minute, the friend decided to bring his dad along. I guess my mom decided if there was another parent at the concert and in the hotel, I could be trusted 😛
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? – I’ve gotten a bunch of samples for the Fresh moisturizers that I liked (Lotus, Black Tea, etc), and I would really like to buy them full-size… once I can afford them, lol!
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? – Holiday open houses! In my home town and the next town over (and probably most cities in America too, haha), almost every store is open late into the night, offering free treats like champagne, deviled eggs, mounds of christmas cookies, hot chocolate, cider, cheese platters, soup, EVERYTHING, and they’re doing holiday sales, and the steel drum band from one of the high schools plays holiday songs in the street (even though we are so far from the Caribbean, lol!). Everybody comes out, the snow is blowing and glistening, everyone’s bundled up in boots and coats and hats and mittens and scarves, the beautiful lights and trees are up in every store, window, and corner of the downtown area, and it’s just this huge community thing that happens but once a year! 🙂

2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you?
A mascara that doesn’t clump, but still gives my lashes some volume, is Heavenly. My lashes are long and they curl on their own, but they are very fine, just like my hair, so I need a mascara that will make them look thicker. I currently like Too Faced “Better Than Sex” mascara.

9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase?
I need to re-purchase some mascara at some point, but I keep getting free samples of mascara from Sephora lately, so I haven’t bought any mascara in 3 months!
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?
I was able to be lazy on Friday night! That rarely happens, so I was thrilled. I ordered take-out and watched One Tree Hill reruns all night! Haha.

9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? I REALLY want a new Dr Jart bb cream in the red tube, but Sephora doesn’t have it anymore, and I haven’t really found it anywhere else.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? Lots of hot chocolate. It was not my most productive weekend ever.

Aw! Your Yule Log story made me smile! We were supposed to engage in similar activities here yesterday but it poured all day, literally putting a damper on going to get a tree! We made due with pizza delivery and a Walking Dead marathon (just reached season 4, episode 6) so all was good, all was bright. 😉
1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats? HAYSTACKS. They’re basically butterscotchy pretzel clusters. Threat level 5 to diets everywhere.
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you? When I can actually see my lashes in photos or someone comments on them – which is a rare, but highly treasured gem.
3. What’s one thing you do well? Make fun, whimsical bulletin boards. I have them everywhere and some have themes. I’ve been making them for years and think of them as art in progress because when you find something you like, you just add it. It’s like Pinterest Beta version.
4. Is it snowing where you live? No…it was shorts weather here over the weekend, which was nutty and not Christmas-like at all. Today the high was in the 40s and it’s still raining. So close…yet no snow sprinkles forthcoming. It only snows here every few years and usually mucks everything up BIG TIME b/c we don’t have equipment to deal with it. Don’t come to Atlanta when there’s a threat of snow, y’all (or zombie apocalypse)! A couple years ago the whole city shut down for almost a solid WEEK due to an ice storm. It was CRAZY.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? A spare pair of earrings. I hate forgetting my earrings, so I keep a set of zirconia studs in case of emergency.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? Yes. Luckily my workplace is pretty chillaxed on makeup creativity.
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? Fairly easy. I’m 5’7″ and most everyone else I know is shorter than me.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? My mom and dad didn’t let me ride in a car with anyone until they’d had their license for a year without having an accident. When everyone you know JUST got their license, no one meets these qualifications! I hated that rule so much then, but now that I’m older, I respect it.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? FoundaSHOUNNN! I am so excited! I’m pretty set on my next target (Chanel Mat Lumiere). I’ve stalked it for months online and I think it’s the right pick for my oily skin. I’ve finished 2 foundations this month! I’m in a clear-it-out mood!
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? Inadvertent failure to pick out our tree led to a relaxing afternoon of watching The Walking Dead and enjoying a pizza with my fiance. Bon temps!
Have a great week, K-Rock! 🙂

1. One of your favorite holiday snacks/noms/sweet treats? I’m not much for the sweet treats. I make them for gifts, but I don’t eat them. I generally watch the intake closely during the holidays. The worst way to start the new year is on a diet! UGH!
2. How do you know when a mascara is right for you? Not to thick, goes on without clumps with no flaking and lasts. Armani Eyes to Kill has been my fav for a few years.
3. What’s one thing you do well? I’ve been told I can sell ice to Eskimos. It’s true. I can pretty much get anyone to do anything for me. I try not to abuse this gift.
4. Is it snowing where you live? Yep. Have a dusting this morning.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? a small tape measure.
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? No. I rarely do the smokey eye. I’ve got enough dark stuff around there anyway, why add more?
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? I have a sign (invisible to me) above my head that reads “Talk to me and ask me a question!”….yep, people talk to me everywhere I go. I’m told I’m very “open and friendly”. It’s impossible for me to go incognito anywhere.
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? Wish I had one. I grew up in the good old days where kids ran wild and free. No parent ever wasted a minute worrying for our safety. It was a enchanted childhood filled with riding horses, jumping from trees and off the garage roof, swimming in lakes and rivers without parents around, walking alone all the way to town, riding motorbikes and 4-wheel drives when we were barely out of diapers. I’m lucky to be alive.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? I could be reincarnated 10 times and still have makeup to use.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? Last weekend….a weird mixed bag. Good and down right rotten. I’ll say going out to the our friends Xmas tree farm with my hubby and Aussie daughter and getting our tree. Maida had so much fun running around greeting everyone and getting lots of lovin’.

4. Is it snowing where you live? right now it is YES, it looks like Christmas or a fairytale.
5. What’s something weird you keep in your purse? Ginger chews by The Ginger People at all times (helps my immune system–I travel a lot for work)
6. Do you ever wear dark smokey eyes to work? YES. A bronze or a dark silver. Picking up a dark blue soon!!
7. Are you easy to spot in a crowd? I am. I’m a curly haired girl and proud so I stand out wherever I go since I have ethnic hair and REFUSE TO straighten to meet corporate norms (or cut it short)
8. What’s your best over-protective parent story? I have none. When I moved to the Boston area we agreed to keep e-mailing but to talk every single Sunday night. 🙂 That was 18 years ago. They live 100 miles away so I can drive out if I need to.
9. Are there any beauty products you need to re-purchase? Gloom Away by Origins. I horde that stuff or anything grapefruit scented (burt’s bees lip balm in grapefruit is fantastic) this time of year. And with 5-6 months of winter I need to Gloom Away the Gloom.
10. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend? I began work on the Environmental Literacy Plan for my state. I’m a volunteer helping with research.
