You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past five years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
Well, pretty dedicated. I’m in my late 30s now, and I’m at that point where I don’t feel like I can slack anymore when it comes to skincare. I try (the key word here) to watch what I eat, exercise, drink plenty of water and get to bed by a decent hour. And besides the whole getting older thing, I’ve been through some really rough patches with my skin — bad breakouts, mostly — and when I slack at all in my anti-acne regimen, things tend to go south very quickly.
- How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?
I can’t remember ever doing it, although I’m sure I have. Most of the time, though, unless I’m literally unconscious, I’ll find the energy to do it. - What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
Getting my hair done at the salon. It’s my favorite thing in the whole wide world! I get to sit on my bum, read magazines and chit-chat for a couple hours, and at the end of it all — new look! - How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
How about, “easily experimentally excessive”? 😉No, really, I’d say experimental.
- If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
In college, I think around 18 or 19. It was with an at-home highlighting kit, and I ended up with chunky tiger stripes.SUCH A HOT MESS! — although at the time I thought it was the coolest thing.
- When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
Honestly, it’s the time. Eye makeup can take me SO LONG to do, especially when there are multiple shadows and lots of gradients and transitions involved. My eyes aren’t symmetrical, and I have to do little tweaks on each eye to make everything appear even. - If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
Dark gray skinny jeans, a cozy black sweater and my comfy olive green Fergie boots.Cat lady confessional: the main reason I’d opt for a black and gray theme is because the colors hide tabby fur so well.
- What’s your go-to purse this fall?
I’ve been looking around for a new bag but have yet to find one that moves me (and carries all of my crap). So for now, it’s still the Poverty Flats Satchel from summer. It’s a great bag and really does go with everything.
- What’s your biggest skincare gripe?
Ugh! Breakouts, particularly around my chin. - What was the highlight of your weekend?
Going to the salon! 🙂 I finally got my hair colored.I ended up going darker for fall.
Now it’s your turn. Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em! 🙂1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?

1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
decently…sometimes i slack depending on how tired i am. but im usually pretty good about it. just that it takes so long sometimes.

5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
my mom let me get these red streaks in my hair when i was about…13 i’d say, going through my “goth” phase. it’s been all downhill from there. i had highlights, lowlights, ombre before it was the cool thing to do, and now i’ve finally just settled on one hair color.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?

What concealer are you currently using to cover your dark spots?

9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? Cleansers that leave my face feeling greasy.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? This was my first weekend with all my new housemates so the whole weekend was nice. I got my student loan and the first purchase I made was scented candles haha.
Karen says
Hi Georgie,
Funny you should mention candles, I busted out my fall ones last weekend! What scents did you get?
Laura says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? Very dedicated! I skip some steps when I’m exhausted, like eye cream, but taking all of my makeup off is a priority at the end on the day!
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? Oh boy it doesn’t happen anymore! When I was single and -let’s face it- a bit slutty, I would sometimes fall asleep with my makeup on after a “nice” moment in the arms of a cute gentleman. But those days are over. No more makeup to go to bed now!
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? Exfoliating. Because my skin feels super smooth afterwards.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? Regarding makeup, I’d say work-friendly, excessive when seductive and experimental on all the other days.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? I was 14, I got simple highlights but it was a disaster. Blond is not my color!
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? I LOVE blush but I find it very hard to make it look natural.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? A simple T-shirt (burgundy or eartly green) with a comfy jacket, jeans and comfy flats.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? A Longchamp tote from last year collection, a classic burgundy color.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? Eye cream. My eyes get watery afterwards sometimes.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? Me and Sweety went to the movies and then a nice restaurant. Nothing extraordinary, but it definitely feels good. Oh and we also spent the entire sunday morning in bed watching old Tex Avery’s cartoon. That was cool too!
Karen says
Hi Laura,
Do you own a fan brush? If you have trubs with blush looking natural, a fan brush makes it so, so easy!
Stephanie Smith says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? Very. I have been for a long time. Night cream, day cream, removing makeup at night.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? Never ever ever! Even if I just use a makeup wipe and skip night cream, I do it. There is always time for a swipe of wipe! LOL!
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? Painting my nails.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? Easy. With a capital ‘E’!
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? I’m not currently coloring my hair, but I used to dye it red, that started in 1992, when I was 16. Loved it. I went blonde for a year when I got married, 17 years ago. I’m naturally brown, and it works on me. I use a gloss, because shiny hair equals younger looking me!
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? That I’m always worried about it rubbing off on stuff.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? Boot cut jeans, obnoxiously bright Nikes, and a hoodie.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? I haven’t found one yet. But I think I want a satchel, and it has to be eggplant or pumpkin or emerald colored.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? Expense. Taking good care of your skin can get pretty pricey. It’s my face, I want to keep it looking young, but man, it’s expensive.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? The burgers my husband grilled last night!
Karen says
Yes, skin care can get pricey. What are you go-to’s, Stephanie?
Barbara says
1 – Very dedicated, I also watch what I eat (I’ve been vegetarian for more than 20 years, so it is a habit for me to watch what I eat).
2 – Never
3 – Evening showers with masks and peels for face and body.
4 – Easy
5 – I’ve never colored my hair. I told myself I will start when I see first grey hairs. I think it will be soon.
6 – I’m with you, I would choose something which would look well with tabby and black cat fur:)
7 – I always have one everyday bag in neutral medium brown color, which fits almost all my wardrobe + the elegant one. My current bag is medium warm brown from Fossil.
8 – Pigmentation
9 – My big cat cuddled with me a few times this weekend which is something very unusual and always melt my heart. I think it is because it was very cold this weekend. He never cuddle with me during summer time, only sometime during winter time.
Karen says
Hi Barbara,
Aww, kitty cuddles! What is your cat’s name?
Kiss & Make-up says
Have I told you how much I like poll day? I always answer the poll and I love to come back afterwards to snoop around and see everyone else’s answers 🙂
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? Very! I am very OCD like that.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? Never! Again, very OCD.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? Using a face scrub. I do it once or twice a week and I love it.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? How about creative? 🙂
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? 14 I think. I went red 🙂
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? I hate trying to get the perfect eyeliner wing, but then messing up and having to start over again.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? Dark blue skinny jeans, a chic top, a tailored blazer, and high boots.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? Still using my beloved Desigual bag that I got last year.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? Breakouts, definitely, and enlarged pores. And hyperpigmentation.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? This is going to sound SO pathetic, but… X-Factor marathon. lol 🙂
Karen says
I feel you on the wing action! When I’m lazy I end up just using tape…
Trisha says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? WAY more dedicated than I ever used to be. Still, my regimen could use some improvement.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? Almost never. Confession time: when I was in high school (and for a few years afterward), I ALWAYS went to bed without taking off my makeup. I’d just build on top of the remnants in the morning. Definitely don’t do that anymore.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? Dying my hair. It makes me feel good. 🙂
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? Easy and, sometimes, experimental.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? I think I was in sixth grade. And I pretty much always had dyed hair ever after. Right now, I dye it black.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? False advertising. It’s rampant! Like, dude, if you’re going to advertise mascara, don’t put false lashes on your models.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? Some cute dress with leggings and awesome flats. With maybe a feathery necklace or something.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? I make my own purses. Right now, I’m using one that’s pinstriped dark blue on the outside and pink cherry fabric on the inside. Cross-body.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? False advertising! I can use that answer for two questions! For skincare, it’s all the anti-aging stuff. They almost never do what they say.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? Coming home from a week-and-a-half-long road trip. It was awesome sleeping in my own bed last night.
Karen says
Hi Trisha,
Where did you go on your road trip?
Trisha says
I went back to Minnesota (from Montana) for my grandma’s 90th birthday. And yes, I totally went to the Mall of America while I was there. 😉
Ariel says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
I moved back to Chicago after being stationed in Florida for a year and all of a sudden my skin started to break out! I’m super dedicated now because if I skip anything my skin lets me know it’s not pleased.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?
Never! I always keep some make up remover wipes in my purse for when I end up staying the night at a friends.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
My every other day DIY manicures 🙂 I was a nail bitter for years and ever since I stopped I’ve become obsessed with nail care.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
Easy with the clothes and experimental with accessories!
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
Never dyed my hair. I’m a ginger and I can’t imagine life with any other shade.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
When foundations in jars don’t come with pumps. I’m looking at you nars sheer glow!
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
Black tights, simple dress, and boots.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall?
My quilted MK tote bag.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe?
That with my super sensitive acne prone skin I can never find a balance between “break out free” or “dry and peeling” I have to settle with mild break outs.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend?
Weekly dinner date with my best friend on Sunday and getting the last tube of “black metal daliah” lip tar at Sephora 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ariel,
Great idea to keep makeup wipes in your purse. I’m going to start doing that!
Marina(Makeup4all) says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?very dedicated
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? never
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? long hot bath with some nice luxury oil.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? Definitely not excessive.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? I used to colour it for years but not anymore.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? can’t think of anything particular right now.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? black trousers and sweater with some statement jewelry.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? Probably my Gucci one.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? my very dry skin.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? I had a sleep over with my girlfriend, just like in good ol’ times.
Karen says
Sounds like a fun weekend, Marina! Did you guys rent movies and make food?
Ruchita says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
Not as dedicated as I should be. I always make sure to wear sunscreen, but I need to do better with my nighttime routine.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?
Once or twice a week. Bad, I know! I’m just a lazy bum sometimes.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
Getting a pedicure. I usually get one at the beginning of the warm weather season. It’s nice and relaxing and I can catch up on some reading.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
Easy. I prefer classic cuts and clean lines. I experiment sometimes, but in my old age I’ve gotten comfortable with my style. 🙂
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
I only colored my hair once with an at home kit back in college.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
Finding the right shade of foundation can be tricky. Sometimes I have to mix multiple colors.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
Skinny jeans or a skirt with tall boots and a cozy knit shirt.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall?
It’s a Kelly & Katie satchel I got from DSW earlier this year. It’s in a neutral brown color and I’ve been using it since the summer. Most of my purses are packed away, so I’m sticking with this one for a while.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe?
On my darkish skin, the slighest blemish leaves a mark that takes forever to fade.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend?
Sleeping in on Saturday. The Mingy alarm woke me at 6:30, so I stumbled down to feed the cats and then came back to bed for a while.
Happy Monday!
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Happy Monday to you too. Did you do any baking over the weekend?
Ruchita says
No baking this weekend, but I do have my eye on a recipe for some pumpkin chocolate chip cookies!
Dominique says
1- How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? Quite dedicated on the whole

3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? Liérac Hydrachrono serum, then day or night cream.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? Excessive
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? I started very early as my hair grew white very early ( so 18 )
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? Finding the perfect foundation ( I don’t wear foundation, maybe I should try with Guerlain Tenue de perfection which is very very good indeed )
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? A Burberry or Zapa coat, jean, cashmere and Repetto flat shoes )
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? A very ancient one
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? My sensitive and dry skin
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? A wonderful walk into the woods, so many colours and fruit, great ! Sunny day and today was very sunny too. 🙂
What do ya got going on today? Are you busy?
No lol, I just went for a walk again 🙂 !
Karen says
Sounds like a good day, Dominique! I hope you enjoyed your walk.
Have a great week!
Natasha says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
Very! I wear sunscreen every day and always use at least a wipie to remove make-up at night. I change my product line-up fairly often, but always use moisturizers, anti-oxidants, and sunscreen.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?
Only if I fall asleep on the couch…
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
putting on moisturizer and feeling my skin just drink it up!
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
Easy. Most of the time. I like to go for exotic glamour when dressing for events…
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
15. I started out using netral henna that I found in the drugstore, and then started adding the red variety until I was a redhead. Still using henna, just not from the drugstore anymore.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
I;m with you about eyes! If I don’t so some contouring, it looks like my eyes are very puffy and my hood takes over…someday I will be brave and just go out the door with mascara… maybe…
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
long-sleeve t-shirt in some shade of green, grey jeans, flats and maybe a gray blazer. I, too, wear clothes that don’t show the cat-fur as much… although with an orange one and a dark brown one, there’s a whole rainbow of cat fur to show up on any outfit!
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall?
Little backpack — distributes the weight more evenly, although I LOVE purses, my back needs ergonomics…
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe?
Changing skin. I used to be oily, then I was normal, now I’m getting drier, but if I don’t moisturize enough, then it acts oily with breakouts… I just figured out that if I add a heavy-duty moisturizer (like CeraVE cream), then the breakouts go away, and if I try to treat them with acne medicine, I get excema… LOVE my hormones…
10. What was the highlight of your weekend?
Going out to dinner with the Hubby on Saturday after a very crazy gig — he decided to just whisk me out to our fave comfort food place, Lido’s, for chicken parmesan… so good! So needed!
It’s going to be a great week!
Karen says
Hi Natasha,
Ahh, the things we do for our kitties. How long have you been an assistant to your cats?
Shannon says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
I’m good about washing my face every morning, but… that’s pretty much it. Even though it’s hella minimal, I do my thing almost every single day – I’ll slack off on washing my face or showering (read: being a normal human) maybe once a month, ish. Those are the laziest of days.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?
Um… like… every night. (hides face in shame)
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
Is it weird to say “moisturizing?” Moisturizing my face and my legs is one of the things I do every day that’s really enjoyable to me. I’m kinda starting to get into painting my nails on a weekly basis, though.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
um… gonna go with “easy” here. I’m more experimental than your average gal, but when I have to be ready for work in under an hour, I want my routine to be a piece.of.cake.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
I don’t color my hair anymore, but the first time… gosh, I think I was 14? That was the (parent-approved!!) Kool-aid incident. Black Cherry stripes through my golden light brown hair, yo! Haha. I loved it at the time, and that led me to eventually mixing my own color when I died my hair black-ish brown for a year or two.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
I’m with you, Karen – time. Everything always takes longer than I imagine it will.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
A black cowl-neck hoody (Banana Republic), dark wash skinny jeans (American Eagle), and my tan, lace-up Miz Mooz Hiro boots.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall?
A cute thing my parents got me from Liberia! I’m usually not into exotic prints, but this purse is totally awesome, and just quirky enough. It’s all cloth, so I’m a little worried I’ll wear it out too quickly…
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe?
The blackheads on my nose. Bleh. Trying to banish them is a truly Sisyphean endeavor.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend?
Cleaning my apartment and then HANGING OUT IN A CLEAN APARTMENT. Good gracious. We live in a small-ish studio, so it’s really noticeable when we leave things out. It was ridiculously nice to have everything tidy! (We’re so busy during the week, the LAST thing I want to do is housecleaning… so it kinda piles up until the weekend. sigh!)
Karen says
Hi Shannon,
Re: time and makeup. I’ve started setting a timer to help get things under control. I use the clock function on my iPhone! I set it so that my phone doesn’t go to sleep so I can keep an eye on the countdown while I’m doing my makeup. For some reason seeing the numbers counting down helps me manage my time better than looking at a regular ol’ clock, go figure!
Shannon says
You are BRILLIANT. I’m going to have to try this!!
Karen says
To be honest I sometimes still go over my time limit, but it really, REALL helps move my @ss and gets me out the door. I hope it helps!
Kim says
Happy Monday! 🙂
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? Very. I wash and moisturize every morning when I get up and every night before bed without fail (also before and after working out). I always use my anti-aging products at night.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? Oh, I guess I answered that in #1. Never. 🙂
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? I think taking a long, hot shower. That’s probably more “hygiene” technically but I’m counting it!
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? Definitely easy.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? Aside from the bad Sun In in my early teens, I think I started coloring full time in my early 20s. We go gray really early in my family.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? I want one perfect everything so I never have to look for another. Like the perfect tinted moisturizer for my skin, the perfect blush, the perfect mascara. One of each product that makes me look my best so all the thought is taken out of it and everything is streamlined. I know, you’re probably horrified right now. HAHA!
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? Sadly, running pants, a white v-neck, long sleeve T and sneakers (and a lightweight jacket).
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? My everyday black Coach – I think I’ve used it almost every day for the last 15 years and I’m not kidding.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? Breakouts/blackheads AND wrinkles. How is that even possible? Those things should never coexist!!
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? Probably our hike yesterday. Making memories with the boys and my mother. We won’t be together forever so I think our fall hikes are really important (and fun)! 🙂
Karen says
What a wonderful thing to do with the boys and your mom! How was the weather on your hike?
Kim says
It was cool and cloudy but nice. We’re tackling our first 46er with the boys this Sunday (one of the 46 highest peaks in the Adirondacks, which is the mountain range near us). I’m excited!
Let says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? Hmm pretty dedicated? I didn’t even start using proper skincare until this summer. I didn’t use toner before…
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? Never.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? Getting a pedicure 🙂
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? Easy on weekdays, experimental bordered on excessive on Saturdays
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? 18. I’ve grown out of the dye and don’t plan to dye it again in a couple of months though…
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? Lining my eyes — sometimes I end up with lines of different thickness
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? Solid-colored or dark-patterned dresses, grey tights, either black combat boots or cognac knee-high boots (both by Seychelles)
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? Navy satchel by Cambridge Satchel Company
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? My right cheek is super sensitive compared to the rest of my face. I still haven’t found a way to prevent and cure breakouts on the area.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? Getting back to the US. I got jet-lagged though I usually don’t… :/
Karen says
Hi Let,
Hmm, do you hold your phone to your right ear? That might be a reason why you’re breaking out on your right cheek.
Let says
Hi Karen,
I usually switch sides when holding my phone (whichever side is available when I’m making/receiving calls, to be honest 🙂 ).
(TMI, but even when I sleep, I try to alternate between facing left and right). For now I guess I’ll have to accept that my right cheek is acting strange haha
Karen says
I alternate sides too, LOL! Well, I usually start off on my back, and then in the morning, go from side to side and then my stomach. It also depends on when Tabs is waking me up too, haha.
So, I wonder why it’s just your right cheek. Maybe you’re touching it without realizing it throughout the day? Ohh… could it be that’s the way your hair parts, and maybe that side is rubbing up against your hair all day?
Rachel P says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? – Pretty darn dedicated. I have to be preventative about acne and proactive about reducing hyper-pigmentation from acne scars. I’ve got a specific lineup of products from various brands that I use in the morning and at night.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? – I hate to admit it, but once a week, or once every other week. If it’s a night where I’m out socializing past midnight or 1 am, I’m usually so beat by the time I drag myself home that the best I can do is give my face/neck a once-over with a Pacifica Coconut Water Cleansing Wipe, which is not a good substitute for my usual routine.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? – I would say sleeping, but that seems like a shortcut answer, so I’ll go with… pedicures! I LOVE getting the little foot/calf massage in the spa foot bath during a nice, lengthy, luxury pedicure.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? – Experimental! I have never had a signature style, like Audrey Hepburn… I’m more of an SJP. I dress to my mood and my vision for the day/night!
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? – I can’t even remember. It was sometime in high school, probably 9th grade, even. I’ve been coloring on/off ever since.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? – I live too far away from my favorite beauty stores! Of all my pet peeves, that’s the biggest. I almost always have to do online orders, making swatching/testing in person a rare (but wonderful) event. Whenever I travel downstate, I make sure to stop at Ulta, Sephora, and Lush at least once. That’s why I appreciate beauty bloggers so much- I’m in a remote location where I can’t go try things out for myself whenever I want, so having you do the footwork is a wonderful resource!
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? – Dark indigo-wash skinny jeans, tall pumpkin-colored riding boots, huge oversize knit sweater, and a chunky oversize scarf on top of that! I could wear that every day!
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? – Just my usual berber leather purse I got in the Marrakech souk, when I was in Morocco. It’s pretty bohemian and goes with everything year-round.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? – There is no magic product for me (yet). I put a lot of time and money into my skincare regimen, but the results are usually just okay, never astounding. I wish there was a magic acne eraser I could just rub onto my face for instant results!
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? – Going to yoga class Saturday morning and getting my first pumpkin spice latte of the season after that! Yummy PSL’s!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
That’s so cool that you’ve visited Morocco! I’ve always wanted to go. How long were you there?
Rachel P says
I went in the spring of 2011. I visited Fes, Marrakech, and Casablanca, and absolutely loved it, probably the coolest experience of my life! I went for a week vacation (I was living in France for study abroad at the time). It was so fun and otherworldly. My one recommendation would be to bring El Hub or a male friend with you. Not for protection or anything like that, the locals were so kind, but we noticed all-female tourist groups (such as my group) were targeted a lot more frequently than tourist groups that included men. My friends and I were never left alone and were constantly solicited to buy things, sometimes even followed or grabbed by the arm/wrist. Tourist men were mostly left alone. We got used to it and I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything, but the constant attention was tiring from time to time.
Kica says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? At 52 I’m VERY dedicated to it!
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? Almost never
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? My morning makeup and my Sunday at-home spa day
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? easy, followed by experimental
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? 50
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? That they don’t have testers in drugstores!
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? No can do
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? My trusty black MK look alike
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? Don’t have one
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? My dog “allowing” me to sleep in.
Karen says
LOL, Kica! I know what you mean about being lucky enough to sleep in. My Tabby Alarm Clock always wakes me up early for food…
Niki says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
*Ehhh…I try to wash my face twice a day and follow a specific routine but sometimes I get lazy(so many steps!). I can tell though when I don’t stay on top of it so I keep trying.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?
*Not very often. I’ve been giving my skin a break anyways so not lately at least. But I definitely try not to! (that’s why we have those face wipes!!)
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
*Doing my nails. I find it absolutely relaxing to paint my nails. My mind focuses completely on it(to make sure I don’t mess up of course!) and I zen out.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
*Easy! I’m all about the easiness. I love looking at creative nails and makeup and all that fun stuff but at the end of the day, I like to keep it simple.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
*Oh boy…I think I was 18. Or 19 most likely. I honestly can’t remember. I’ve been doing it for a while but I’m pretty sure it was letting my cousin (who is a hair stylist) color my hair because I wanted the caramel/blonde color Beyonce had going on…EPIC FAIL…needless to say I had to chop my hair off and start from the beginning but I’ve sworn off any kind of bleach or going that blonde again (professional or not)
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
*I agree with you Karen regarding time. It’s probably why I only do mascara, brows and lip gloss on a daily basis.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
Jeans, boots(any of them I love them ALL) and a slouchy turtleneck sweater…but since I live in Florida(South Florida to be specific) – jeans, sandals (wedge or flip flops) and a t-shirt(long or short sleeved) with a zippered hoodie.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall?
*Umm my same Coach carry-all I’ve been using all year. It’s big. It’s grey. And it has an awesome purple interior. I love this thing.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe?
*Ermahgad! The dark spots! I have no idea what is going on there and I want them to go away!
10. What was the highlight of your weekend?
*Going to the Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley concert on Saturday and the amazingly fun church service on Sunday at Church by the Glades. Oh and a really great yoga class on Saturday before the concert.
Have an awesome week y’all!!
Amy says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
Pretty dedicated. I used to just use things that worked for other people/were expensive but now I research things like crazy because I know my skin type better. I always equated gentle products = don’t clean well, but I use all gentle stuff now and my skin is benefiting from it! Yay!
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?
NEVER. I physically cannot. The thought of resting my face against my pillow with makeup on makes my skin crawl.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
Eyebrow waxing or haircut. Eyebrows shape the whole face and everything looks “neater” after (aside from the red, angry skin).
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
Easy. I’m definitely adding things to my routine, but I keep it somewhat streamlined so I can pull myself together quickly if I have to.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
I just enhance my blonde and my mom taught me how to highlight my own hair when I was about 19. People would think I had it professionally done! lol now I get my blonde a little amped up at the salon since I don’t trust myself.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
Finding an eyebrow pencil from blondes that doesn’t look cray cray. I’m alright with the one I have now but I’m always on the hunt.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
My charcoal gray v-neck tshirt, skinny jeans, brown combat boots, maroon yarn infinity scarf I knit myself.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall?
Just bought mine yesterday! I can always count on Target. It’s a Merona gray fake-suede (or something similar) hobo bag with gold accents. I love it.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe?
Oily skin. I can look great and matte, and then in 3 hours I’ll be shiny 🙁 I need to look into a primer, but something about primers and all the dimethicone makes me think I’m suffocating my skin.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend?
Seeing my family and going to a friend’s birthday. I now have a plate of leftover carrot cake cupcakes and they’re wonderfully delicious.
Heidi says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
Very dedicated in the sense that I take really good care of my skin. But I’m always wanting to try new things so I’m not terribly loyal to any particular products. I’m currently happy with a combo of products from Ole Henriksen, Peter Thomas Roth, and Mario Badescu.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?
Never! I fear the inevitable breakouts if I started slacking on that.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
Um, is the shopping for products considered a ritual? If not, then I would say I love exfoliating and feeling how baby soft my skin is after that.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
My fashion and hair are easy, my makeup is experimental, and my collection of products is excessive!
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
I don’t regularly color my hair, although I need to get on that because the gray hair at the temples is really starting to bother me. I first tried coloring my hair in my late twenties and really liked it. I’m just lazy about it and don’t enjoy sitting still at a salon for any length of time.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
Why are long-lasting lip products such moisture suckers? I mean, I get it, but it’s so frustrating. I end up having to re-do my lips anyway because the color might still be there, but the lips start to look dry and flaky.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
Khaki pants, either an olive green or copper sweater, and a scarf or necklace that incorporates a nice mix of earth tones.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall?
I’m still on the search for one, actually. It’s so hard to find all the features I need in one bag: decent size, cross body, and I prefer to not do leather.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe?
When a product works for awhile and then my skin somehow becomes “immune” to it.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend?
Going to an outdoor concert with my little 9 y/o friend and his mother. Seeing the little guy bust a move on the dancefloor was hilarious! He worked the crowd and may have collected a few of the ladies’ phone numbers by the end of the concert!
Yogirl says
1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen? Not really dedicated, I try new things/ products on a regular basis.
2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup? Never, really!
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? Getting my hair done (Nr. 1), but getting a pedicure or a massage is great as well.
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive? Easy.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started? I got the first highlights when I was about 16, about 5 years ago I went hair-crazy and changed my platinum-blond short hair to black-red overnight (the next day in the office no-one recognized me). After 6 months I wanted to become blond again but ended medium-blond red, which I liked. For about 2,5 years I’m blond again with variations.
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? Grooming and hair removal takes so much time…
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like? Jeans, long cardigan and a big scarf.
8. What’s your go-to purse this fall? I recently moved to London and couldn’t take all my bags with me but for work it is currently Longchamp Legend in laquered lack, for weekends and running errands it is Louis Vuitton Bloomsbury GM.
9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? The red veins on my cheeks…
10. What was the highlight of your weekend? A guided walking tour in Greenwich, small group and so many interesting things to see…
Have a great week everyone!

1. How dedicated are you to your skincare regimen?
Pretty dedicated–though my exercise could be more intense and regular (I’m told regular exercise is great for the skin–well, your body in general).

Almost never. I’ll nap with my makeup on–but for bedtime? It would have to be an “I passed out” excuse.
3. What’s your favorite beauty ritual? Sleeping
4. How would you describe your style: easy, experimental or excessive?
Easy is more my style. I love having all the details in place but if it’s too high-maintenance–well, it won’t be maintained at all.
5. If you color your hair, how old were you when you first started?
I don’t now. First colored my own hair in middle school? High school?
6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe? When I have a reaction to my makeup–or searching for a mascara that won’t run.
7. If you had to narrow down your entire fall wardrobe to a single fall uniform, what would it look like?
I have an all-black dress code with practical shoes for work. If I was able to pick, I wouldn’t have a uniform.

9. What’s your biggest skincare gripe? Reacting to skincare products and breakouts.
10. What was the highlight of your weekend?

2. How often do you go to bed without removing your makeup?

6. When it comes to makeup, what’s your biggest gripe?
