It may still be summer, but at makeup counters everywhere, autumn leaves are starting to fall.
August brings even more fall makeup, and it’s time to say one last goodbye to July. Here were some of my favorite posts of the month. 🙂
- Urban Decay Fall 2009 Lipstick Swatches and a Helluva Lot of Randomness
“These aren’t colors I’d wear to Safeway to buy bananas, but they’re still a lot of fun. And should I ever get turned by Vampire Bill (VB!), I could wear Oilslick and Confession all the time.” - Lancome Declaring Indigo Fall 2009: Enough to Make My Brown Eyes Blue
“Virtuose Mascara in Royal Blue ($25) nearly blinded me with bling when I first laid eyes on her. A dark blue mascara with golden glitter, this baby curls, lengthens and defines lashes like nobody’s bidness.” - The Lovely Chanel Venice Rouge Allure Lipsticks
“These browns, pinks and plums aren’t terribly extreme or edgy, but they’re pretty and look natural, and to me that adds up to easy-to-wear. :)” - Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Frenzy: A Pink Pigmentation Bonanza!
“I love the rich, blinged-out look of this shade, but truth be told it’s hella high maintenance. How high maintenance is it? Frenzy’s like the Kimora Lee Simmons of the lipgloss world!” - Urban Decay Face of the Day with Freakshow Deluxe Eyeshadow, Fall 2009
“Freakshow, a shimmery purple with reddish hints, is one of three Deluxe Eyeshadows from Urban Decay’s fall 2009 collection. I used it and some MAC products for this pink, purple and bronze eye…” - I’m Seeing Stars Thanks to MAC Love That Look
“The uber-frosty Starflash Eye Shadows headline this show, focusing tons of attention on the eyes, BAM! There’s nothing subtle at all about these powder shadows, so be prepared for bling when you wear ’em.” - MAC Gets Crafty with Wearable Colors in the Colour Craft Collection
“…Colour Craft took me by surprise. The bulk of this humungo 33-piece collection actually consists of — gasp! — wearable shades. MAC gave us a good mix of shimmery neutrals, golds and bronzes along with fun pops of purple, pink, blue and orange thrown in for eyes.” - Chanel Venice Collection Eye Gloss Turns Up the Intensity
“When layered beneath powder eyeshadows, most cream shadows bump up the intensity of a powder shadow by maybe 50%. The Eye Glosses, however, increase the richness of colors by 2-3 times (100-150%!).” - Illamasqua Cream Blusher Stays On Like Donkey Kong
“Even in hella hot weather, Rude doesn’t fade. Where other cream blushes have melted away, like when I’m covered in sweat, pulling a Whitney circa the Bobby Brown years, Illamasqua Cream Blusher’s still going strong.”

Hi Hafsa,
YAY! I am happy to help. I hope that the color works out for you… and if it doesn’t then you can always return it, right? That’s one great thing about Sephora.

Hi, I’ve been ur subscriber recently and i noticed that u hav lots of high ended makeups (like Chanel, MAC, etc). Do you have any recommendations for a cheaper but with quality makeup, cuz im just a student n i dont want to spend so much money on cosmetics yet. I know there are NYX, Covergirl, Loreal, Maybelline, etc, is there other that I need to discover? thanks
Karen says
Hi Diana Van,
Sure! There’s lots of great drugstore stuff out there. I like Sally Hansen for lip glosses and Sonia Kashuk for eyeshadows and brushes. As for mascaras, MAX Factor 2000 Calorie is pretty good (but they’ll be leaving the US soon) and so is L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon black. For blushes I like Neutrogena’s Soft Color. For pencils, try Prestige or Rimmel. 🙂

Hey Karen, I know you’ve been all caught up with True Blood lately so I gotta ask if you’re gonna try the Twilight makeup when it comes out. It seems so silly but kinda fun too. I’d love to see a review of some of that! 😉

Hi Caitlin,
I’m WAY tempted to try it, just for the cheese factor. 🙂 I actually like DuWop, so it can’t be that bad!

I can’t believe it’s August already! July went by in a flash; good thing too, it’s freezing down here!
I’m loving all the fall goodies that are popping up, can’t wait for the reviews 😀

Hi Marce,
LOL, it’s freezing up here, too, and it’s supposed to be summer! That’s SF weather for ya, I guess.

Girl,
You look good in every photo. What is your secret???
I hate to see July pass because August means that Fall is peeking over our shoulders and I hate winter. I agree with you on all of the items. I passed those Chanel eye gels right on by and bought the bluey/greeney quad. I knew that the gels would do nothing for me. Now the Lancome Indigo collection has real personality and I am lemming that blue sparkly mascara even though I will 56 at the end of the month. While wearing that I should call myself “The Dancing Queen” like the Abba song. I love those songs. I am not in Mac makeup because, let’s face it, it’s for you young ‘uns. But my disinterest in that line caused me to miss a fragrance. I did not even know that they made fragrances. One night while surfing the net, I found out about a sublime scent called Naked Honey. I had read that it smells like the Honey Locust trees, one of which I have in my front yard and many at the family home where I grew up. Now Naked Honey is all gone. I am intrigued but cannot get it because it is all sold out. How did I miss that one?? I think Tabs is having sexy time and is not really lost. He’ll be home in time for din-din. Louise
