You might be wondering, “So what in tarnation is this Monday Poll thing anyway!?”
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past seven years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- White nail polish or black nail polish?
OK, how about white polish for my fingers, and black nail polish for my toes? 🙂 And while we’re at it, can I just say how awesome it is to have white nail polish as a real option? — because waaaaay back in the day I’d resort to painting my nails with White Out.Yeah, ew.
Probably wasn’t the healthiest thing to use, and to be honest, it wasn’t very attractive either, but we were kids being kids!
- Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
There’ve been a couple. Yesterday at Ulta with my favorite beauty enabler, Marisol, I grabbed a bottle of Garnier’s Clean + Nourishing Cleansing Oil, which she highly recommended. My cheeks have been crazy dry lately, and she has dry skin too and loves the stuff, so I decided to give it a whirl. I also picked up Sally Hansen’s Nail Nutrition Green Tea + Bamboo Nail Strengthener on her recommendation, because when I mentioned that my nails have been splitting (boo!), she said it helped hers a lot. - Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
Yellow gold…with rose gold being a close second. - How often do you wear suits?
These days, never. I think the last time I wore a suit was around 2005 for a job interview. I wore black suits when I worked in a law firm because they were easy and brainless (just add shirt!). I also think that suits helped me look a little older and more mature (and not an intern), which, believe it or not, was a problem I used to have (but these days, that’s soooo not an issue, LOL!).I still have and wear those same black suit jackets on occasion, like with skinny jeans, a white tee and gold jewelry. I like that combo.
- Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
My makeup, definitely. With my hair, I try to do the bare minimum, which means styling it on the first day after a wash (usually with a curling iron, which takes me about half an hour), and then just brushing it through and using dry shampoo on the roots, which takes less than five minutes, on the days until the next time I wash it.If I’ll be taking pics or doing a video, my makeup usually takes longer than usual, too, but I can usually do it in 30 minutes if I’m really pressed for time and rushing. It can take an hour or longer for more complicated looks. If I’m just doing makeup to run an errand or meet a friend for coffee, though, that’s usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
Your turn. 🙂 Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em!
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
4. How often do you wear suits?
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
Hey, sweet girl! Happy Labor Day to ya. I hope you’re enjoying the long weekend.
I got to sleep in a few minutes this morning, but Tabs has me on the clock today… You know how it is with international kitty supermodels — you’re always on call, LOL!
No, really. I’m trying to finish the few things on my to-do list early because it’s supposed to hit the mid-90s here today, and homegirl needs to be out of her office by 3 p.m. at the latest, lest she melt.
Wish me luck!
You have a magnificent Monday, ‘k?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
jessica says
I think all of us who grew up with Wite-Out painted our nails with it! 🙂
Karen says
Craziness. I don’t know why my mom didn’t stop me, LOL! It looked so bad.
Hope you’re having a nice weekend so far. What are you and the kitties up to today?
Chelsea says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish? Black! White makes my skin look red and angry!
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation? Hmm… I haven’t received it yet, but the Estée Lauder Little Black Primer you mentioned!
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold? Most of what I own, including my wedding rings, are yellow gold. However, I adore rose gold, and it works well with my complexion.
4. How often do you wear suits? Never!
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair? Makeup, because I don’t do s*** to my hair, LOL!
Karen says
Oh yay! I just ran out of my Little Black Primer and need to get another tube. Thanks for the reminder. 🙂
Congrats on the new addition to your fur family. How/where did you find her?
Chelsea says
Our local Humane Society had her, and she started licking me right away! She’s very active and goofy. We also played with the teeniest little 2 month old kitten, but Mina, with her stub tail and vivid personality, just had to come home with us
Karen says
Can’t wait to see pics of her. She sounds very sweet. How are Jiji and Quincy taking their new sibling? I hope they’re all getting along!
Chelsea says
She hasn’t met Quincy yet (that’s happening this evening!) but we’re taking things slowly. Jiji hissed at her during their first introduction, but was otherwise not too bad. We’re keeping them separate for now, and trading toys, blankets, and rooms periodically so that they get used to each other’s smells.
Karen says
Good luck with the first meeting. I hope it all goes smoothly! You do realize that since QB is virtually the head cat of the household, Mina is like your gateway cat. The third cat is always the gateway cat! Next stop: six kitties.
Chelsea says
Right? My cousin has 6, including a tabby mom and her two tabby sons, all gorgeously husky and spoiled.
Lydia says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish? I like them both 🙂
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation? Ooo I’m not sure. Probably UD Perversion Mascara because my sister loves it. It was just ok to me though.
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold? I like yellow and rose gold. White gold just doesn’t look good with my skintone.
4. How often do you wear suits? Almost never.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair? Makeup for sure because I have super short hair 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lydia,
If you haven’t yet, try UD’s Cannonball Mascara. It’s their waterproof one and the best one in the line!
Holly says
Good morning & here’s to a great week! OK, here are my answers:
1. I think I would go with black nail polish as it speaks to the rebel in me.
2. Other than the recommendations I read from you (hello, Becca beach souffle!) I’m more the recommender than the recommendee. My friends & family members don’t participate in my obsession with cosmetics & skincare.
3. White gold foremost & then rose gold, not that I wear much jewelry.
4. I don’t think I’ve ever worn a suit in my life. I used to wear a blazer for special events or job interviews but that was at least a decade ago. Some people can rock a suit like no one’s business; I am not one of them!
5. I spend more time on my makeup than on my hair although I really don’t spend much time in total on either unless it’s a special occasion.
I did pick up a bottle of Simple micellar water so I can practice various looks with my eye makeup. Ooh and a teeny doe-foot paintbrush from Michael’s craft store for my gel eyeliner–I love it so much! I’ll be going back for more brushes, that’s for sure!
Karen says
Hi Holly,
Good morning! I hope that you’re having a nice weekend so far. Have you tried your Simple Micellar water yet? What do you think?
I also did a little makeup shopping this weekend at Ulta. Picked up some nail items that I needed to restock and a Garnier Cleansing Oil. 🙂
Holly says
I’ve used the micellar water a couple times so far & I like that it’s such a strong but gentle & effective way to remove eye makeup. It even worked to remove most of a gel eyeliner I was wearing yesterday. I did end up using my cleansing oils as well because I like how the oils (olive, rosemary, tea tree, & cedar) nourish my skin.
The next items on my wish list are Tocca fragrances. I rediscovered the sample I received in my last Sephora purchase. It’s called Margaux & even though it has musk notes which are not my first preference, it’s a great scent for autumn. I’m looking forard to trying out others in the brand.
Karen says
Oh nice. I might have to try it. Right now I’m using Bioderma and although I love it (it works SO well, even on the hard to remove stuff) it’s not that easy to get in store. I have to order it online.
You said the magic words — TOCCA! I love them. I have several scents that I can’t get enough of. If you have the chance try Bianca and Graciella. Both are super pretty.
Bianca has notes of bergamot, lavender, mandarin, lemon, rose, jasmine, green tea, musk and sugar (the musk is very subtle).
Graciella has bitter orange, pear, apricot, lily, ylang ylang, rose, iris, musk and benzoin.
On me both of these are light but not overpowering.
Kim says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish? Black but then I put a sparkle jelly over it and it’s purdy. I’m a middle school teacher and they STILL paint their nails w white out and sharpie. Ew.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation? Tarte clay powder and I love it!
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
Rose gold is my fav
4. How often do you wear suits?
Never. I wore one to a district event and that is it.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair? Makeup. I have a pixie cut so that takes 5-10 min. I wish I could spend 30 min every day on makeup but I usually spend about 15.
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Sharpies and White Out! I can’t believe that kids still do that. What grades and subjects do you teach by the way?
Kim says
Hi Karen!
I teach 7th grade Science and 7th and 8th grade elective called STEAM. We get to learn how to be engineers and build and program robots! It’s so fun! We also use a program called AutoDesk Inventor to design 3D objects and then use a 3D printer to print out what they made! If they decide to take the elective again for a second year, they learn basic forensics, nanotechnology and how airplanes work by designing an airplane and building a prototype out of wood. It is so much fun. I had to go to a ton of trainings so I could teach it because I knew nothing about that stuff before!
Thank you so much for your blog! I go to you all the time before making any purchase. You always have an honest opinion and tons of swatches and I would have wasted a ton of moo-lah if it wasn’t for you! I’ve also discovered so many products by reading your posts, so thank you! Man oh man, would I love to raid your makeup drawer… Or closet! Lol. How did you get into doing this? Do companies send you samples to review? It must be so much fun! Thank you again for taking the time to do this for us! Have a great weekend!
~Kim
Karen says
Hi Kim,
How fun! When I was in middle school and high school science was one of my favorite subjects, and I loved it enough to get a biology degree in college. If I was in 7th grade I would’ve totally taken STEAM as an elective. 🙂 I hope that there are a lot of girls taking that class! Our world needs more ladies in science. Random but kinda related — a few years back I met a gal who works as a cosmetic chemist for the Estee Lauder labs. She basically spends her days creating makeup in the lab, how cool is that?! I wish I would’ve known about that gig when I was young.
Oh, and thank you so much for reading the blog. I’m glad you enjoy it find it useful. When I started, which was 8 or so years ago, I did it as a hobby. I had another job at the time, and I’d review whatever beauty products I had in the house — and, um, truth be told even back then I had more makeup than the average gal. I’ve always been interested in beauty and have been collecting makeup (aka hoarding, LOL!) since I was a teenager. Eventually I was lucky enough to start doing it as my main gig. Some brands send samples for review but I still buy a lot of products because I’m hopelessly addicted, much to my husband’s dismay. I don’t even know why he bothers to talk me out of another peachy pink blush. He should know already that a girl can never have enough. 🙂
Did you always want to be a science teacher? How long have you been doing it?
Kim says
I’m addicted to beauty products too. I can’t help it! I love painting and drawing and since I have no time for it, I think painting my face is my way of getting my art into my life! My vice is eyeshadow. I can never have too many pallets. Thank goodness for make up trading by websites because I never use anything till I hit the pan and always want something new, so trading keeps my credit card bill down (well, a little) and my husband happier. He doesn’t understand. But I simply explain like this… You can never have too many power tools and I can never have too much makeup!
I want a job making makeup! That sounds amazing! I have loved science ever since the first time I peered through a microscope and saw a whole world of single cells organisms and got to slice and dice a bunch of different animals in 7th grade. Then I wanted to be a teacher as I got older because I lived children. After going back and forth between teaching, marine biology and makeup artistry, I decide on science. I didn’t want to be on a boat most of my life as a marine biologist or deal with celebrities as a makeup artist, so I decided on teaching. When I had to decide on a concentration in college, I picked science. I thought I wanted to be an elementary school teacher but there were no jobs in elementary when I started. I got a job in middle as a science teacher and did that for a few years. Then I moved and got a job in elementary as a district science specialist but got laid off when the economy went downhill. Then I started middle again and I realized I liked them better than elementary because I could teach only science and they already knew how to read and write (for the most part) and I could be sarcastic with them. So I’ve been teaching now for 11 years.
That’s awesome you got your degree in biology! I love biology and if I could do anything else besides teaching, I would go back and get a bio degree. Or maybe chemistry now that I know that you could get a job in makeup chemistry!
Off subject, but have your pre-ordered the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation? I want it to come now!!! I picked up the “born this way” foundation by too faced this week and I’m not sure how I feel about it. It’s 100 where I live and the foundation feels so greasy but it could be the weather. I’m trying to find the perfect foundation. I love jouer’ shimmery bb cream but need something w a little more coverage sometimes but nothing too thick. I’m hoping the Tarte one is the one I’m looking for! Have a great Labor Day! 🙂
Stacey says
1) Both! Also I used to paint my nails with whiteout back in junior high when I was bored in class.
2) Most of the recommendations I get come from the internet. I always like to do my own research before buying something new. It’s part of the fun for me. Anyways last product I picked based on this is Nivea’s Skin Firming & Toning Gel-Cream. So far it seems to actually be working pretty well for my stomach.
3) Rose gold.
4) Never have but I probably will one day when the right occasion presents itself.
5) Definitely spend more time on my makeup as I currently have pretty short hair. Usually all I have to do for my hair is brush it and spray it with a little hair spray and it’s good to go.
Karen says
Hi Stacey,
That Nivea product sounds interesting. Is the gel cream moisturizing at all?
Stacey says
I’d say it’s lightly moisturizing. It also absorbed pretty quickly on me. If you have dry, dry skin wherever you’re using it I would say you might want to use another lotion on top.
Karen says
Thanks. I’m taking note of body stuff right now so I’ll be prepared for next summer. 🙂 I actually just started using this Stretch Mark cream from Clarins and am hoping that it’s good! (I’ve had good luck with their face stuff.)
Vanessa says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
Black, theoretically. Haven’t worn since … 8 years or more.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
If you’re my friend, Karen, then a few. Haha Mac pro long wear concealer. Nars eyeshadow primer.
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
Yellow gold.
4. How often do you wear suits?
Not too often, but I love them. I just don’t like wearing them through 🙂
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
Yes. I barely do anything with my hair.
Karen says
Of course we’re friends, Vanessa! 🙂
Katie says
1. Black! It lets me release my inner punk.
2. Last year my roomie leant me her Tresemme Thermal Creations heat protectant spray, and I immediately went and bought a bottle for myself! It really does work.
3. Rose gold, followed by white gold then yellow gold.
4. I never wear suits! I’m still in college so I can get away without for a few more years at least.
5. Makeup definitely! I only wash my hair once every 4+ days, so I’ll usually wear it down the first two days after a shampoo, either blown straight or allowed to air-dry wavy, and then do a pony, messy bun, or some kind of braid concoction the rest of the days!
Karen says
Hi Katie,
I’ve used that Tresemme spray and you’re so right, it’s great!
What are you studying in college? Do you like your classes this fall?
Katie says
I’m a Geology major, actually! I just started my second year.
MonicaP says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
White for sure! Not a fan of black nail polish.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
None. None of my friends like makeup like I do 😛
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
White gold .. I love silver jewelry.
4. How often do you wear suits?
Never 🙂 I left my job in March of this year.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
Makeup! I didn’t even wash my hair today 😛 but my face looks pretty !!
Monica.
Karen says
LOL, I didn’t wash my hair today either! You’re not alone. Thank goodness for dry shampoo, right?
MonicaP says
Oribe dry texturizing spray ~ expensive but worth it!!
Katherine M says
Happy Monday! I am very happy because I got a final offer of employment for a career that I have been working very hard for. It hasn’t been an easy road, and it won’t be this time, either, but I am determined to get through!
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
~Love white, it looks so crisp and happy.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
~I’ve bought a lot of things from reading this blog that I would have never known about that are absolute gems. MAC Club, NARS Galapagos, MAC Turquatic, UD Setting Spray, Rimmel blush in Autumn Catwalk….just to name a few of my faves.
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
~Love all 3, but rose gold is my absolute fave. My wedding band is rose gold, and I just love how flattering the color is. It really enhances more bronze shades in the skin. UD Naked 3 is also my favorite because of the rose gold neutrals.
4. How often do you wear suits?
~I’ve worn a suit a lot this year for various parts of the job process that I had to attend. It really depends, though. Sometimes I like to dress up a good suit for church or something nice, other times I just wear it for interviews or something important.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
~Definitely makeup. I like my hair to be fairly quick. I may spend more time on making sure it is pinned up in a military style when I need it but it is still faster than having short hair to have long hair. For makeup, I tend to spend the most time on zit cover-up and an extravagant eye look.
Karen says
Wow, Katherine, CONGRATULATIONS! I remember back when you decided to make the career switch. I’m so happy and excited for you! You’re going to do great. When do you start?
Do you have this weekend off? What are you up to for Labor day?
And P.S. So glad to hear that you’re loving those gems. MAC Club is a long-time favorite of mine. 🙂
Katherine M says
I start September 24th! I was off this weekend and spent yesterday with family, and today mowing our 1.35 acre yard with the hubby. I do the pushmower – helps build those squat muscles!
Your blog is great – so uplifting and real. I’ve bought MANY things based on your honest reviews. Too Faced Country is another fave of mine.
Jen C says
1. I love some shimmery white polish on my fingernails!
2. Lancome’s mascara primer – recommended by a close friend who claims it curls and lengthens lashes. I haven’t used it much though as it seems so difficult to coat a mascara over a white base!
3. Rose gold FTW!
4. Complete suit up – almost never. But I do wear blazers or business pants separately quite often
5. Definitely more time on makeup! Though I spend less on both nowadays..
Karen says
Hi Jen,
Try Estee Lauder’s Little Black Primer; it’s a FANTASTIC mascara primer, and best of all, it’s black! No need to fuss over covering a white base, and it works great. I get amazing length and curl from all my mascaras when I wear it. I just finished a tube and about to start on a second one.
LindaLibraLoca says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
White. I used to wear it back in school, real nail polish, but to be honest with my pale hands it probably isnt the most beautiful look.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
A real life friend? Cant think of any. A blogger friend? A concealer three days ago.
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
Rose gold.
4. How often do you wear suits?
If I need to give a speech or present research. Three to four times a year at a max. But recently I have taken to wrap dresses. They work better with the growing baby belly…
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
Makeup. I usually spen zero time on my hair (except for washing it). I just let it air dry and put it up in a bun/pony tail/braid.
Christine says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
Neither. Makes my nails yellow. Took decades to finally get the yellow out. O__o
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
I don’t recall! I am usually the friend making the beauty buy recommendation (former pro MUA). ;-D
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
Rose gold. Got the kababayan, coffee-with-cream complexion, so this works well for me!
4. How often do you wear suits?
Although I am in the legal profession, not at all! 1) Cannot find suits that fit. 2) Suit jacket and casual business wear is okay where I am for now.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
Equal time (total prep time: 30 minutes).
anusha says
1.white nail polish-the semi transparent shimmery one
2.through multiple blog recs-dior addict fluid stick rieuse
3.yellow gold-compliments my indian skintone
4.suits -never!
5.makeup-even though it is pretty minimal most of the days..but i’ve been wearing a coral lipstick at home for a few days as a pick me up.. 🙂
Tatiana says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
Black. Definitely black. White reminds me too much of White Out. Lol.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
Radical Skin Perfecting Screen SPF 30
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
White then yellow. Never rose.
4. How often do you wear suits?
Never. Not sure I even own one anymore. Maybe a blazer with jeans or skirt or slacks, but nothing matching and nothing cut like a suit.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
Makeup. Hair is wash, condition, blow and go.
Cory says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish? I’m with you, Karen—a mix of both.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation? MUG shadows
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold? White!
4. How often do you wear suits? Umm..rarely. Can’t remember the last time..
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair? Makeup, all the way! Same as you, Karen, I do as little as I can get away with when it comes to muh hurrr!
Happy Labor Day! ?
Kate & Zena says
HI! Sorry I missed last week! MY GALANT DIED! It was horrible. So, so horrible considering we also had to pay for Zena’s surgery to get her sarcoma out too! Such a bad week last week. SUCH A BAD WEEK!
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
I’ve done both, but on my really pale skin, white is definitely better. My favorite though is white polish with some black detailing like polka dots; even a few polka dots make the white less harsh. I don’t wear much nail polish now (my 100+ collection is kind of getting dusty for nails, but I now use them other ways!) since I’ve gotten lupus, but that was my favorite way.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
Hm, I think it was the Urban Decay Electric palette for makeup and the Nioxin hair care system for my hair. The Nioxin has been a LIFE SAVER for my lupus riddled hair. I love the Electric palette but I use it so little because I just have no energy for makeup these days.
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
White as it’s closest to silver. Yellow and rose gold, honestly, do not look that great on me. I’m very, very cool-toned.
4. How often do you wear suits?
I only wear the equestrian kind (which are called “habits”) and that’s when I do shows. 🙂
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
It’s situational with me. Most days, I do very, very little with both. And then…there’s show days. Hair is so easy for show days as I just go back to my ballerina days, but the bun is put much lower because of the helmet. It takes about ten minutes tops. Makeup takes about 30-40 minutes.
When I have to dress up for people (like baby showers, weddings, funerals, things like that), hair and makeup compete. Sometimes I do braids that take longer, so I do less time on my makeup or the other way. For my Grams’ funeral, I refused to look anything but my finest and it took me 1.5 hours to look presentable it was pretty much even for both (or “Grams perfect.”) Admittedly, I cried all of my mascara off but that’s beside the point. I had to look like what Grams would have wanted me to look like!
It’s a long answer to I guess a short question, but that’s truly how I am! It’s truly situational!
Rachel R. says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish? Black nail polish
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation? My friends INRL aren’t into makeup, unfortunately.
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold? Yellow gold. I never understood white gold; it looks like silver. If I pay for gold, I want to be able to tell it’s gold.
4. How often do you wear suits? I haven’t worn a suit since the early 90s. I don’t miss them.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair? Definitely my makeup.
Allison C says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish? I seldom wear either but more often I’ll do white polish with polka dots
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation? I’ve made beauty purchases based on other blogger’s recommendations (NARS Weightless Foundation) but my friend’s usually make beauty buys on my recos, lol
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold? rose gold for sure, but I have red hair so it’s no contest. White gold is probably second but I like yellow gold too. Any gold is good including green gold!!
4. How often do you wear suits? I used to wear them all the time years ago. I wish they’d come back in style
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair? I only wash my color-treated hair every 3 or 4 days but when I do wash, dry and style it it takes way longer than my makeup, ugh.
Meghan says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
I love the look of white nail polish on tan or dark skin and I’m crazy jealous of those folks. Against super pale skin, it just doesn’t have the same look. So, I have to go with black. I love how it can look so edgy but then so chic, depending on what you’re wearing.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
I think it was Guerlain’s Meteorites Baby Glow. We have similar complexions and she raved about it, so I had to try it myself. It’s pretty great!
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
Rose, then yellow.
4. How often do you wear suits?
Earlier in my career I wore them often, but now work in a completely casual environment. It’s mostly skinny jeans, t-shirts and sneakers for me these days! I’m pretty spoiled now. It would be hard to go back to a more formal setting.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
Makeup, for sure. My hair is such a lost cause I just blow-dry it and leave it down, or pull it into a low pony. Makeup requires more precision, too, so I definitely spend more time there. Plus, I feel if my brow game is on point, it helps make up for my mop of hair. haha
Hope you had a lovely holiday weekend, Karen!
Trude says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish?
Black…although white would make me look a little tanner… 🙂
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation?
Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. Such a great setting powder in the heat we’ve been having!
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold?
Yes!
4. How often do you wear suits?
Once or twice a week at the most. I’m usually more inclined towards slacks, a top and some kind of cardigan.
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair?
Makeup, unless I’m doing a blowout. But it’s been a least a month since I’ve done that because it’s been so dang hot and we don’t have a/c!
Jennifer says
1. White nail polish or black nail polish? both, but, I probably shouldn’t say that because I’ve had trouble finding a black polish that I really love. I’m going to try a deep Navy for my next pedi because my toes currently look very July with a surfer pink shade.
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation? I can’t remember. None of my Maine friends are beauty addicts like me. I’m usually doing the recommendations.
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold? yellow first, white second
4. How often do you wear suits? Never anymore. The last one was for a job interview in 1997 (!).
5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair? Makeup. I have no patience for spending time on my hair.

1. White nail polish or black nail polish? WHITE
2. Last beauty buy you made based on a friend’s recommendation? I can’t even remember…I do freelance makeup and it’s usually the other way around lol.
BUT I’LL SAY WHAT I RECOMMENDED AND THEY BOUGHT…THE LATEST UM..CONCEALER(s): 1) Physician’s Formula “Youthful Wear”: has a yellow liquid concealer on end of the tube, light/light med/med concealer tube stick in center and top of tube is a roller applicator if needed. With THIS I suggest using yellow color concealer on VERY dark under eye circles ONLY because yellow neutralizes the purple and is always good to have in case (dab a few dots under eyes and pat gently across it with ring finger…DO NOT USE MUCH AT ALL). Use the regular color concealer in a triangular shape under eye but not directly under like the yellow..right under it/edge of nose and can dab small dots or breif swipes and I use roller to even it out and then touch up with index finger blending by patting to make it even, balanced and make sure it is covering circles, brightens and opens eyes BUT NOT LOOK OR BE CAKED ON…LESS IS MORE…DNT USE A LOT!! I do this only if I look tired or full makeup (aka not a quick 5min and go).
2) “Dark Circle Concealer Correcteur” by NYX in medium! (Medium is the darkest color and usually I get light/medium but important reason to have this concealer in the shade darker than the usual color u use). It is very good for your skincare, with many vitamin C and more and apple ingredients which are two of the best things for eye/skin care! Its a very small jar like a lip balm basically and used like youd apply lip balm but ring finger and dab under eyes…THE COLOR BEING A SHADE DARKER ACTUALLY CONCEALS UNDER EYES (directly under not triangular) MAKING IT VERY NATURAL LOOKING AND BLENDS WITH THE REST OF YOUR FACE COMPLEXION…DOESN’T LOOK LIKE YOU’RE WEARING ANY BECAUSE OF THE TONE AND THIS IS USED IF YOU WANT A QUICK 5 sec EASY NATURAL ON THE GO CONCEALER..ALONE OR OVER OR UNDER OTHER PRODUCTS. *I like to dab this to complete my concealer steps sometimes if I dnt want a lot of the contouring finish..and always dab this on the inner eye corners..
CONCEALER IS MY ESSENTIAL MAKEUP ITEM I ALWAYS HAVE…MAKING SURE IT’S GOT THE RIGHT NATURAL INGREDIENTS ALSO! ALWAYS HAVE YELLOW FOR YOUR WORST DAYS, A SHADE DARKER FOR YOUR BEST DAYS AND IN BETWEEN FOR YOUR FULL MAKE-UP DAYS…REMEMBER LESS IS MORE OR YOU WILL LOOK MORE TIRED AND JUST NOT GOOD…ALWAYS USE RING FINGER AND GENTLY DAB TO BLEND BY PATTING..its the finger that uses least pressure and that is on the area where skin is the THINNEST more than any other area on you and easily agitated.
NYX costs about $5…it’s amaaaazing and Physician’s Formula costs around $10/12.
3. Yellow gold, white gold or rose gold? ROSE GOLD

5. Do you spend more time on your makeup or on your hair? MAKEUP..FOR SURE! I’M RIDICULOUSLY LOW MAINTENANCE ON MY HAIR…FOR GOOD REASONS BUT MAKEUP ALWAYS TAKES MORE TIME FOR ME
