You might be wondering, “So what in tarnation is this Monday Poll thing anyway!?”
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past seven years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- What’s your take on ruffles?
I like them in moderation… I’ll take one or two dainty, well-placed ruffles, perhaps around the hem of my shirt or the edges, but I can’t handle it when they’re all gigantic, or when there’s 25 ruffles everywhere. And I don’t like ruffles on my sleeves. It’s too Captain Jack Sparrow for me.
- Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Ouch, that’s a tough one… I guess if I had to choose, I’d pick necklace. I love wearing earrings too — studs, hoops, dangly earrings — but I’m in a necklace phase right now, especially statement necklaces. I love the statement necklaces from Kate Spade, and Kristin Perry makes some really cute ones (or these lady bugs!).I also recently started getting into this store called LOFT, and they’ve got some cute necklaces, too.
- How did you feel about your hair growing up?
Uh…I don’t think I really liked it. My hair and I had a love-hate relationship until I was about 22 or 23.When I was a kid, I had some really bad haircuts. This one time, my grandma, after she decided to go to the beauty school at the community college, learned how to perm, and she somehow talked my mom into giving me a terrible poodle perm.
It looked like…I dunno. The curls were so tight, and my hair was so short. I had a bowl cut to start, and then she put the poodle perm in it, and it was just a mess. I think I was four or five.
Then when I was in third grade, my mom made me get a boy’s short haircut, yay!
I ended up looking like all of my Filipino uncles…
- Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
I have. I drew a fake mole on my face when I dressed up as Madonna for Halloween years ago. I also went through a phase in high school where I drew one just above my lip, because back then Cindy Crawford was really popular. - If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Posh cat toys for the discriminating cat lady. Think Kate Spade meets Petco.
Your turn. 🙂 Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em!
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Hello, sweet friend. Good morning! 🙂 It’s Monday… Wake up!
I’m having a hard time gettin’ going today. I didn’t sleep well last night. I stayed up late watching Game of Thrones and this show called Girls on HBO (HBONow has a free 30-day trial where you can watch everything HBO online, which is what we’re doing). I just started watching it last week, and now I can’t freaking stop.
I hope you had a nice weekend. I got a lot of gardening stuff done on my deck. It’s coming along nicely. I planted a whole bunch of tomato plants and basil plants and flowers and sweet peppers, but now there’s just, like, dirt all over the place. It’s almost done, though, so that’s exciting.
Anywho…have a nice day today and a great week. Talk to you soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Petra says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? Please hold the ruffles, thanks! No i like clean lines on me. Other rock the ruffles, i feel like walking doilie
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? Necklace but rings are really my thing!
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? Until I was about ten it was just there. Around that time i started growing it out. I was determined to ginish school with insane long hair. I did! It was past my hips when I left ninth grade (last year of mandatory school in Sweden.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? Can’t remember that I have even tho it would seem like something I would do
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? No clue. I am really not a sales person…
Happy monday. I had the day off today. Had a lovely lunch with my mother, a facial and then murdered yet another pair of sunglasses. They just cracked – which meant some shopping done as well. A great day in my book. Haha ^^
Kim says
Happy Monday! Your deck looks fabulous! Our weather is very dreary today so seeing all your plants made me happy. 🙂
1. What’s your take on ruffles? I’m going to be 100% honest and you can totally laugh at me. I literally thought “well, I prefer kettle cooked but Ruffles are much better than plain chips without ridges”. Then I read your response and just about died laughing. OH! Side SHOW Bob. HAHA! No thanks on the ruffles, in that case.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? Earrings for sure but studs in particular. I love how jewelry looks but I find it just gets in the way when I wear it.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? I always wished it was a bit thicker and that I didn’t have any cowlicks. Now I appreciate it more for the wave/curl.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? I have not, but immediately thought of Cindy Crawford. Lots of gals did that in the day because of Cindy.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? Specialty cheeses, breads and other culinary delights. Sort of like a scaled down version of Zabar’s.
PS I’m running in a half marathon relay on Sunday (my part is 6.55 miles) and whenever I do my “long” run during the week, I remind myself that you did an ENTIRE half marathon. 🙂
Karen says
Amazing! Good luck on the run. Are you properly prepped? And by properly prepped I mean a sports bra that doesn’t chafe. Having extra Vasoline on hand helps too!
Kwmechelle says
Ummmm, confession. I too thought of Ruffles potato chips. With ranch flavor. I also like them better than real ruffles =)
Tatiana says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
Never. Unless we’re talking about chips and dip.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Tough one, but I’m going to have to say earrings.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
Love/hate relationship. My mom always made me wear it pulled back in a pony tail in school. The thought being, if I wasn’t distracted by my hair I’d pay attention more. It was always down to my shoulder blades. Until I broke up with a guy junior year in college. I went to the salon to have my hair cut and decided to get rid of the bad perm I associated with that relationship and got a pixie cut. It’s been long and short since then. But the most freeing thought is that it eventually grows back.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
Nope. I’m super pale and I’m sure it just wouldn’t work with my skin tone.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Art. Or baked goods!
Love your potted garden! My basil never seems to do well in our pots. We tried tomatoes one year, but as soon as one was nearly ripe and I’d want to pick it I’d notice that it had been eaten from the bottom by some critter. That critter got every single decent tomato that summer. We just planted jalapenos, seranos and habaneros, chives and cilantro this weekend.
Agata says
Hi Karen,
I had my wisdom teeth taken out earlier this morning so I am taking it easy and procrastinate writing my own post, lol.
I am glad you made some gardening progress!
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
I like ruffles but they have to be places in the right place- like not on my boobs to make them look bigger. I like ruffles on the hem of a dress or ruffle short sleeved tops. Cute!
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Oh god, I am not sure. I would say earrings I think.Because I never leave the house without earrings but necklaces are such a great way to accessorize an outfit. And yes, Loft necklaces are really pretty. I also love jewelry from Bauble Bar.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
My hair was super long until the 8th grade- past my butt! Then I cut it and kept going shorter. But when I was younger I always dreamed of bright blonde curly hair!
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
Yes, for a Halloween costume. But again when I was younger I was jealous of Cindy Crawford’s mole- I thought it was super sexy!
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Coffee, I would love to own a chic coffee shop!
Kiss & Make-up says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? In a collar? Great!
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? I feel naked without earrings, so earrings.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? As a teenager I hated the frizziness of it.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? Once, for Halloween. I was a geisha.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? I’d sell hot cocoa! 200 different kinds of it! On top of a glacier! 🙂
Estefania says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
For a second I thought you meant the potato chips! Haha can you tell what my priorities are? I don’t like em on clothes… I’m much more of a lace or fringe girl.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Earrings. I have a pixie cut, and I just need something up there to make me look more polished.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
I never particularly liked it. I had A LOT of hair when I was little, and it was frizzy. Although it straightened well, I always wished it were wavy and bouncy and full. So naturally, I chopped it all off when I was nineteen 😀
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
I think I tried once and didn’t like it. I actually have a mole just under my chin, so I don’t have to draw it on 🙂
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
A very customizable range of makeup storage furniture. Seriously. There is a demand!!!
Anastassia says
I don’t like ruffles. Used to wear them when I was too young.
I prefer necklace to earrings more.
I don’t like my hair growing up even though I like long hair but I find it too hard to grow mine.
When I was too young I drew a mole on my face for halloween I was a princess.
I would sell accessorize. I love them all. Bracelets, earrings, necklaces…
Meghan says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? I agree, I like them in moderation! One or two here or there as a cute accent.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? I think it changes daily! At the moment, I’m also loving statement necklaces!
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? I’ve always loved my really long ‘mermaid’ hair. I’ve had about 3 big chops (12 inches or more) but I always go back to growing out my hair 🙂
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? I have about a dozen on my face alone so no, I haven’t had to draw one on! 😉
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? Makeup & skincare! 😀
Suzanne C says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
A small ruffle at the hem is okay with me, but not more than that. I don’t want to rock a 1987 wedding dress look.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Earrings, although I love a good statement necklace. I have issues with anything too close to my neck.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
I did not love it. It was too straight to be curly and too wavy to be straight. And it was the most boring shade of brown imaginable.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
Goodness, no! I have more than my share of moles already without making any up. Though fortunately, only two on my face.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Books!!! Owning my own bookstore has always been my dream.
Andeem76 says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
I like a good ole skool tuxedo ruffled shirt on occasion, pending on the size of the ruffles.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
I always have on earrings for work, both for play.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
I had super long hair as a child and my mom wasn’t sure on how to comb it or take care of it, I wish I knew the things I know now about hair then. It was long thick and wavy. I always had braids and was not allowed to comb it myself! So I kind of did not like my hair growing up.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
I have faked a mole on my face and I have colored a flesh colored bump I have on my upper lip in to look like a mole.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
This question is great, I think I would sell makeup, hard to find trinkets, clothing and shoes.
Carrie says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
I take them and I love them. I can be particular about where they are placed, but I adore them.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Earrings, big, sparkly dangly earrings
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
I loved it, golden brown, long, easy. My mother didn’t seem to care for it…put me in rollers, home perms, strange old lady hairstyles.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
Nope.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Stationery, invitations, paper goods, writing utensils.
Lulle says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
Small ruffles here and there, yes. Large stuff floating around, no.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
A necklace I guess? I wear very little jewelry.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
Hmm nothing special. I was straight at that time, now it’s wavy. I did feel like I really wasn’t able to style – I still do.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
No, I have enough moles and freckles naturally!
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
A lifestyle store, with home decor, candles, and carefully picked beauty product.
Twyla Munden says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? Ruffles on a skirt or the tail of shirt but I’m a big chested girl so ruffles enhance what doesn’t need enhancing.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? both all the time. non matching. If the dress is strapless, then either big earrings OR a necklace but not both. I wear studs & hoops 24/7 and a chain with my Machu Picchu Charm on it.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? I always had long hair to my butt, my mom wouldn’t allow a crop… when I was 27 I went super short (pixie) and had to agree with my mom – I do better with long. lol
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? I have that ‘mole’ permanently etched next to my mouth so I never drew another on.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? I’d sell Accessories of all kinds… its what I spend the most money on myself so I could have fun selling it.
Enjoying your Gardening!! I’m very jealous.. We still have walls of snow, slowly melting but the tempts are cooler than normal.. Today is only +8C (+48F). I think Spring is avoiding the east coast of Canada, its like we got voted off the rest of the Country.
LindaLibraLoca says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
Like them on others, but I am not one for ruffles myself.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Earrings. They don’t get in the way as easy.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
I hated it. It was thin, greasy and I would have loved to have any other color than the blonde I was born with. It was only after a horrible perm I made peace with it.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
No. I have plenty of moles on my body without drawing them on.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Skincare.
As cliche as this may sound for a blogger. And tea.
Maybe some books? Like a spa and relax shop?
We spend the weekend at my parents, it was a great time.
Allison C says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? I love all the girlie stuff so I love me some ruffles!
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? both. if I had to choose, earrings
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? I had waist length hair for most of my elementary through college years. I had an Alice in Wonderland thing going.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? no, but in college, I used to wear a star sticker on my face and I was called Stacey Star. I can’t believe I did that.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? art
Ruchita says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
I like them, but definitely in moderation.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Necklace. My hair covers up my ears, so you can’t really see the earrings.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
We had an okay relationship. My mom never let me get a perm, so I mostly just wore it long, around my shoulders. However, my senior year of high school I got it chopped off and did a short cut. That was fun to make a drastic change.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
I think I might have for Halloween or a school play.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Cupcakes & Cocktails 🙂 That would be the name of our imaginary store/bar that my husband I would own.
Happy Monday!
Fancie says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
I like them! I think they’re girly and cute.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Earrings. I could always wear a scarf instead
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
I always liked my hair. I just hated getting it done lol
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
No but I considered it after seeing someone get a mole tattooed on her face. It actually looked cool
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Makeup lol. Lots of lashes and lipsticks but also other makeup and maybe some accessories too
Janine says
I love watching Girls, great show BUT I have seen Lena Dunham one too many times naked. I don’t know if she’s an exhibitionist or what but OMG. It’s a fun show though and entertaining. She’s great on it and produces it although I coukd do without her excessive nudity.
Katherine M says
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
~I don’t like them by themselves, but if paired with something like a tough moto jacket (if it is a blouse or cardigan with a ruffle or two), it has the girly-tough look.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
~I don’t have pierced ears (or anything pierced for that matter), so statement necklaces all the way!
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
~I was obsessed with keeping it neat for horseback riding. I never really experimented with fun hairstyles until college. My dad used to cut my hair (till I was 16), and because I didn’t get haircuts frequently, he used to cut it a little shorter than I wanted it. My hair is very thick, so anytime I have had shoulder length or shorter hair, it does not cooperate. I’ve dabbled in shorter and longer lengths over the years, and my perfect length is bra-strap length with some fun layers. I’ve always wanted a Posh Spice bob but not the maintenance of it.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
~Does accidentally while applying mascara and eyeliner count?
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
~Hmmmmm…probably affordable exercise stuff. I would probably make a 24/7 gym that is a very low cost per month so that people would want to go. Gym memberships can be very expensive and the expense is a huge turn-off for people, so that is why more people don’t exercise.
Rachel R. says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? I love them on skirt hems and sleeves, but I can’t handle large ruffles on the neckline or chest. I’m a big, curvy gal, and they look awful.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? I’m all about earrings.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? I’ve always hated it, and most likely always will.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? Only for costume purposes, like Halloween or plays.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? Stylish, well-made plus-sized clothing, maternity clothing, undergarments, shoes and hosiery for sizes 4X and larger. Everyone deserves to look nice.
Stephanie Smith says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? I like them dainty and sparse! But I do like them. My favorite outfits of all time, my almot 49 years, involved ruffles! Tiered ruffle skirts. Love!
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? Necklace. I’m allergic to metal in earrings and cn only wear gold. I got out of the habit of wearing them and one ear closed up, so I should have them re-pierced. But I’m scared!
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? It was fine, I wasn’t really into my hair until I was 15 and chopped it short and dyed it red.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? No, it was never my thing.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? I really want to reopen my city’s drive in theater. It was so fun when I was a kid, and now it’s falling apart. But I have to hit the lottery first.
Kwmechelle says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? No, thank you. Please. Just, no.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings? Earrings all day err-day
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up? Totally. Hated. It! I was teased mercilessly bc it was big, poofy, & it just got bigger as it got hotter outside. I was one of the only natural haired girls in my school. Now, I’m natural again. And I plan to stay natural forever. I LOVE it BIG now. And POOFY! =)
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face? Nope. I actually have a mole on my upper lip on the left…a lah Cindy Crawford. It runs in my family. My mom’s sister has it. And so does my grandad’s sister. I think my 14 year old cousin has it. One person from each generation.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell? Handmade clutch purses- which I make. Haven’t made them in years. Looking to start it back soon.
Susan C. says
1. What’s your take on ruffles? Flirty! Love ’em.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Earrings, for sure. Usually I forget I am wearing a necklace and manage to get it caught on something.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
Thin, oily, dishwater blonde — what’s not to love? It was stick straight, as well, but I liked that part.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
No, my freckle farm is quite sufficient.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
Lingerie and stationery!
Erin says
Sorry, it took me so long to get to this, real life has been a bit of bear! This morning I’m throwing my hands up though and taking an extra long blogs and coffee brain break.
1. What’s your take on ruffles?
Hmmm, it’s a do on the right garment.
2. Would you rather wear a necklace or earrings?
Right now a necklace because my ear holes closed up.
3. How did you feel about your hair growing up?
I hated it. it was very short as a kid. Then it was stick straight and no amount of curling iron could change my “Cher” in the 70’s flat hair. Mind you crimping and curling were the thing in the 80’s along with a sky-high wall of bangs. I got picked on a lot for being a “hippie”.
4. Have you ever drawn a fake mole on your face?
Not since childhood.
5. If you had your own store in a perfect location, what would you sell?
I’d have a wine bar, cheese bar, or makeup store! Maybe I need to combine all three things.
