You might be wondering, “So what in tarnation is this Monday Poll thing anyway!?”
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past seven years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
I think they’re classy in moderation. I mean, I’m not the girl who shows up to the party with a monogrammed bag, shirt, hanky and earrings, but I do have a couple of monogrammed mugs. There’s this white one I use for my coffee/tea every morning, and if El Hub ever broke it, there’d be hell to pay!I also have a couple of monogrammed necklaces, and I wear them all the time.
- Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
I’ll take the single statement bracelet, please. - Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Hmm… Gummy bears, but only if they’re those really soft ones. They have to be really soft and gummy, and not the super chewy tough ones that feel like you’re chewing leather.Ugh! When those tough ones get stuck in your teeth? No thank you.
- When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
It was a looong time ago. About 20 years. I think it was at a college holiday party, and it was just a quick peck on a friend’s cheek.I know! Most boring mistletoe story ever! 🙂 Sorry. Hopefully your story is steamier than mine. I need to be entertained, girlfriend!
- How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
OK, this one is one of those things that I think I should be pretty good at, because I usually remember details like how many kids someone has or if they like cats or dogs or traveling, but I’m not good at remembering birthdays.Actually, I’m absolutely CRAP at remembering birthdays. They slip through my brain like wind through Swiss cheese (uh…). Seriously, if it wasn’t for the calendar on my iPhone, I’d remember two birthdays — mine and my brother’s, only because his is exactly one week after mine, haha.
Your turn. 🙂 Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em!
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
Hey, babe! You know it’s the holidays when folks bust out the scented holiday candles.
I started this Frosted Cranberry one from Bath & Body Works the other day, and oh! — so cozy and delicious. My friend Marisol recommended it, and now I’m recommending it to you. 🙂
Speaking of cozy and delicious, I hope that describes the week you’re about to have.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Oh! Early poll! Hurrah! 🙂
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? — I am not especially for or against it I guess 🙂
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? — Both!
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? — Gummy bears! And no, I don’t avoid one particular color or only eat one particular flavor, I eat ’em ALLLL 🙂
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? — Never!
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? — Not very good, which is why I put everyone’s birthday in my phone.
Tatiana says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? I don’t own any. Never really thought about it.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? Statement bracelet all the way.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? Gummy bears. But actually I prefer sour patch kids. But definitely gummy bears by Haribo.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? I don’t think I ever have.
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? I’m lousy at it. I think my brother and sister-in-law officially hate me for it. I remember my Dear Husband’s because it falls on or near Father’s Day each year. And of course I remember Dear Daughter’s, but I always forget to buy gifts on time.
Haven’t found a holiday candle yet for this year. I usually like something spicy.
Hope you have a great week.
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
There’s a great sale going on at Bath & Body Works right now (I just checked) — $9 for a three-wick candle! Just in case you’re looking. 🙂
Kelly B. says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
I’m obsessed-anything I can get with my initials, I buy! 😀
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
None-just my watch. I spend SO much time typing and working on my laptop that anything more just gets annoying.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Neither? I’m more of a mint kind of gal!
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
Haha never-guess I’ve never spontaneously found some mistletoe!
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
Very good. Because most people have theirs on Facebook!
Have a lovely week!
Karen says
Thanks, Kelly! You have a great week too!
Marina (Makeup4all) says
It seems like I haven’t answered these questions in ages 🙂 Here we go.
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? as you’ve said, it is all about the moderation.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? Depends on my mood, really.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? Can I have both?)
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? I don’t think I ever have. Maybe I should work on that 😀
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? Very good actually.
Karen says
Hi Marina! I’ve missed ya. 🙂 I hope that you had a great weekend. Did you do anything fun? Tabs sends his regards! *meow*
Marina (Makeup4all) says
Send him my best regards, too! No Thanksgiving for us, so I had to work half of Saturday and then enjoy some time with friends and with good books later x
Agata says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
I like them, in moderation. I like monogrammed mugs, jewelry-not so much!
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
One statement bracelet.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Gummy bears for sure!
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
I don’t even recall if I have ever had!
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
Yes, I have great memory for birthdays and dates in general.
Happy Monday, Karen! That cranberry candle sounds really good. Gonna see if Bath and Body Works have any good Cyber Monday deals!
Karen says
Hi Agata,
I just checked and they’re $9 — such a steal! I also have Sweater Weather, that’s another good one to try. 🙂
LindaLibraLoca says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
Indifferent. I don’t think I own anything monogrammed.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
Depends on the day. Statement bracelets lately, because I can give them to my daughter without fear of her breaking them.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Gummy Bears!
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
Ha, I have quite a story. It is actually the only tie I ever kissed under a mistletoe, I don’t think this is very popular in Germany, so let´s go: It was December 2013, and I was visiting a Christmas market with a girlfriend. There was a hut that had decoration and some mistletoes put up, and I figured I´d buy one, but the owner told me they weren’t for sale. I must have looked very disappointed, because when I turned around, my friend grabbed me and kissed me full on (she had had quite a lot of mulled wine before) so I would at least get one kiss, if I didn’t get the mistletoe. It might have felt like Britney and Madonna, but she was laughing so loud and I was already eight months pregnant, so it wasn´t quite as glamorous.
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
Great. If I have my iPhone with me, that is.
Karen says
LOL, too funny! Your mistletoe story is one of the best ones I’ve read so far!
Fran says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? I’ve never monogrammed anything, but certainly don’t mind when others do.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? Definitely a single statement bracelet — the best would be a statement watch.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? Lemon drops — sour ones.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? … I don’t think I ever have!
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? Terrible, unfortunately. Except for my son’s birthday, of course.
Karen says
Hi Fran,
Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?
Fran says
Happy Monday back at you, and thanks for asking! The weekend was supposed to be for relaxing, but, for the first time ever, I had a bit of $$ to spend on the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, and, actually, it was kind of stressful! I may even be happier about purchases I ended up *not* making than about those I did make, although I may change my mind when my goodies get here. On the bright side, I may have OD’d enough on shopping to just sit back, relax, and enjoy what I have already for quite a while!
Stephanie Smith says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? I love it! For reals! If I could put an “S” on all my shirts like Laverne did on “Laverne and Shirley” I probably would! I also like things with my two daughters’ initials or names on them.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? I like a lot of bracelets, in different textures, worn as a cuff.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? Lemon Drops, I don’t like gummy candy.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? Never. My story is more boring than yours Karen!
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? Pretty good, maybe not always the correct date, but within a day or two. Luckily Facebook reminds me of upcoming birthdays, so I always look pretty smart! Lol!
Karen says
LOL, Stephanie! I totally remember wishing that I could put a “K” on all my sweaters like Laverne did back in the day. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. 🙂 Happy Monday to ya!
Jax says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
This might be a US/UK thing. Jewellery is fine, not my thing, but neither is gold. But the idea of towels/clothes/handbags just makes my skin crawl, in the UK it would just look like someone trying too hard.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
Difficult, in summer a bunch, in winter a statement, not sure why.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Gummy bears! Well really cola bottles, but bears will do 🙂
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
Last year, hubby, at my parents house. My Mum always gets a big bunch of mistletoe, luckily it grows easily round us.
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
I remember the time of year but not the actual day, I’m really bad at that. 🙁
Karen says
Hi Jax,
I like those cola bottle gummies too! Ooh, or the peach ones. Have you tried those? So good.
Hope you had a nice weekend!
y. says
I’m good at remembering birthdays! 🙂
Karen says
That’s awesome! I wish I was better about it. Without my iPhone I’m a mess. lol
Chelsea says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? Not for me!
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? I never wear bracelets! Probably dainty though.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? Gummy bears, but I won’t say no to either.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? Last year.
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? I’m alright.
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
Happy Monday to you! Were the furbabies happy to see you again? I bet they missed ya!
Chelsea says
Mina was sooooo sweet! She was so happy, she got right in my arms and started purring like crazy! And she was even cuter when I brought Quincy back from the bunny sanctuary, she started kissing him and nuzzling him. Zack said she cried at his pen when I took him away on Wednesday, and she’s not normally vocal.
I’m dealing with sinus crud from my Rottweiler sister Tinkerbell, who I adore, but am allergic to. Worth it.
How was your holiday?
Karen says
Awww, sweet Mina! I love that she was so happy to see her siblings. That’s too sweet. 🙂 I’ve always wanted that for Tabs — to have strong bonds with other animals. But alas, he’s a solitary kitty.
Things are good on this end. I got to take a lot of time off, which was great. I used most of it to do house stuff though, LOL! So not exactly fun or relaxing but it has to be done. We’re having company soon so we we’re getting a guest room ready. It was previously the treadmill room/office, but now it’s going to be the guest room/baby room. Soooo I’ve been having to do things like buy sheets, towels, etc. I honestly had no idea that buying bath towels could be so aggravating, LOL! I’ve been researching different towels online and have become overwhelmed with the selection. Sounds crazy, but it’s true.
Chelsea says
Quincy is more like Tabs, much more attached to people. The bunny sanctuary folks loved watching him because he’d hop up to say hi whenever someone entered the room.
I can’t imagine, buying sheets is stressful enough because I’m picky but not made of money, LOL. So many sheets are itchy!
MonicaP says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
Jewelry – yes! Towels, meh.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
Single bracelet as noisy arm candy drives me nuts.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Gummy bears!
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
Oye, so long ago that I don’t remember 😛
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
Pretty good – esp if it’s someone I care about.
Monica.
Karen says
Happy Monday, Monica! How was your Thanksgiving?
Sara says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
I like it! But it can be too much I think especially when it comes to around the home.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
Single
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Gummy bears but only the red ones!
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
I don’t think I ever have! How sad haha
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
I have to say I’m pretty good.
Love that candle! I just started burning fresh balsam and I have a few of the ‘winter’ ones, both from bath and body works. Those are my two favorite for the holiday and winter months!
Hope you had a good weekend:) can’t believe it’s Monday already. But, I have another short week because we’re headed to Maine for a few days, it will be our last trip there just the two of us!
Meghan says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
I don’t know that I have a stance on monogrammed anythings. I don’t have a problem with it but it’s not something I’m super into, either. I suppose it’s like most things – best in moderation. 🙂
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
Definitely just a single, because when I inevitably remove it because it’s in my way while I’m trying to type, I’d rather just have one bracelet to remove instead of several.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Ooh, gummy bears for sure. Anything Haribo, please.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
I have no idea! I’m not even sure I ever have? If I have, it’s not a memory that’s stood out, haha!
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
Terrible. I don’t even try. I totally rely on my calendar and even then, Facebook provides handy backup.
Thanks for the candle recommendation, I will pick that one up. As soon as the weather turns a bit chilly, I pull out my Marshmallow Fireside candle which is my favorite of life!! I buy them whenever there’s a sale and keep them stockpiled in my linen closet! 🙂
Rachel R. says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? I don’t have anything monogrammed, though I do have some “R” jewelry, which I find fun. Monograms can look really classy, as long as they’re not overdone.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? Single statement bracelet, though I do love a stack of bangles.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? Lemon drops
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? I don’t remember. It was probably my hubby, though. 😉
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? Really good.
Lauren says
Hi Karen! How are you feeling?
1) maybe 1 item at a time. I have a bracelet from Alex And Ani with the letter “L,” but o wouldn’t wear a matching necklace and earrings at the same time.
2) single statement bracelet!! I’m really bad with jewelry and when I have it on, I keep it on.
3) Gummi bears! I was obsessed with lemon drops as a teen, but my tongue would literally burn after eating so many
4) I really don’t think I have! Maybe my Grandma when I was about 6 because she loved her mistletoe!
5) I forget so many little things like errands I have to do, but ask me a date, and I remember…especially birthdays.
Hope you’re feeling great over there!!
Kalli says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
I LOVE a monogram! It will definitely sway my purchase towards a yes. Have you ever checked out maydesigns.com? I love their custom planners and I’ve used them the last couple of years (I upgraded to a Passion Planner for 2016 because I needed one that was a bit more meaty inside)
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
Single statement necklace! I have a bunch. But I’m in Texas, we love big everything.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
Gummy bears are definitely my favorite. Last time I was at World Market, they had all the Haribo gummies on sale and I went HAM.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
Uhhh, I can’t remember! I usually try to avoid it!
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
Pretty good, once I know the date. Mine and two of my best friends all have birthdays within 2 1/2 weeks of each other in June, so that makes it easy 🙂 And my mom and sister are within 7 days of each other in April and my dad’s was the day before Halloween.
Efrain says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
I don’t like them, I think the main problem is that is really easy to be really tacky.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
Statement bracelet all the way.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
I don’t know what are lemon drops but I love gummies and I don’t care of the form.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
We don’t use mistletoes here in Mexico, so no kisses for me.
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
I suck most of the time, Facebook is my best friend in those cases.
Well today was last day at college so now I have a month to binge watch Netflix and do some exercise and relax.
Erin says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)?
It depends on the things. I like monogramed mugs and glassware so you know what is yours at parties!
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets?
A statement bracelet!
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops?
I love gummy bears… I can eat pounds in a sitting if left unattended.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe?
I have never done that!
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays?
Pretty good and Facebook is there to remind me!
Jennifer says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? I like them, especially monogrammed jewelry. I had a gorgeous monogram gold ring in high school, which was a bit loose and flew off my finger into our back yard, never to be seen again. I was distraught. I even rented a metal detector–nowhere to be found.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? I do both–not at once of course.
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? Gummy bears, preferably Haribo brand
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? Geez, a million years ago, high school maybe? I think mistletoe is overrated.
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? Wretched. I’m just like you. I can remember kids’ names, who’s got how many, even dog names, but birthdays, fuggetaboutit.
The cranberry looks yummy. I’m burning a Yankee (candle that is) in Mistletoe.
Kim says
1. What’s your stance on monogrammed anythings (mugs, towels, jewelry, bags, etc.)? I think they’re fine but I don’t think I own anything that’s monogrammed, myself.
2. Would you rather wear a single statement bracelet, or a bunch of dainty bracelets? Can I say “no bracelets?”. I’m saying no bracelets. 🙂 If forced, I’d go with statement but it has to be fitted like Wonder Woman’s. HAHA!
3. Gummy bears or lemon drops? Same as you with the soft gummies.
4. When was the last time you kissed someone under the mistletoe? I feel like I should make something up because I honestly can’t remember ever seeing mistletoe in real life.
5. How good are you at remembering other people’s birthdays? Awesome at remembering the dates. I can tell you all my friends and family, plus old boyfriends/friends from school, etc. However, I’m terrible about knowing TODAY’S date, which makes me awful at wishing people happy birthday until I happen to have to type/look up the date. Then it’s like “oh, no! It’s so-and-so’s b’day!”.
