You might be wondering, “So what in tarnation is this Monday Poll thing anyway!?”
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past seven years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
Curling my hair and/or doing a blowout early on Monday morning, which usually takes me about a half an hour, so that all I have to do the rest of the week is touch up my roots with a little dry shampoo (I’m really lovin’ this one from Living Proof, BTW) and quickly brush it through.Saves me a TON of time to not have to style my hair on a daily basis. Plus, in that weirdly icky, ironic hair way, I think my hair looks better as it gets grungier throughout the week.
- Cheesecake or pie?
Pie all day, every day, son! Please make mine pecan with a big scoop of whipped cream on top. Thank you kindly. 🙂 - Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
Hmm… OK, how about a young adult romantic mystery??LOL! But seriously, probably a mystery, but it’s gotta be lighthearted and fun. I can’t get into books that are too heavy or serious these days.
- What’s the weather like today?
Oh, my gosh! It’s raining!! It’s cold, completely overcast and lightly raining. It was pouring last night and this morning, and we had some loud, long thunder and lightning. Poor Tabs was terrified! He was staring out one of the windows when the thunder struck, and it scared him so badly that he leapt in the air and started coughing! 🙁
I think he may have choked for minute, but he seems OK now.
- When was the last time you wore a uniform?
If we’re defining “uniform” in the strictest sense of the word, then it was probably my band uniform back in high school, and good grief that thing was hideous! Ruffles and a huge, ill-fitting bucket hat just ain’t cute. But if we’re using the looser, more usual definition of “uniform,” then it was probably about eight or nine years ago when I worked as a legal assistant in a tall building in downtown SF.
I pretty much wore a slightly different version of the same thing every day — black pants, black shirt, black shoes.
Eh, it was easy, and I didn’t want to think too hard.
Your turn. 🙂 Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em!
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
2. Cheesecake or pie?
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
4. What’s the weather like today?
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
Good morning, sweet friend! It’s a stormy day here in Northern California.
Wanna hear something kind of random…? I just noticed that I can’t sit as close to my desk as I used to because of Baby Girl and my tum.
Yup, and my keyboard feels so far away… LOL! I know I keep saying this, but that’s because I’m constantly shocked: Baby Girl is getting ginormous! I was staring at my stomach the other night, and she kicked so hard that I actually saw the skin move.
It was both delightful and freaky at the same time.
In other random news, I made a loaf of banana bread last night, and it’s already almost gone. El Hub and I tore into that thing with a fierceness!
The recipe came from MBB reader Rachel R.’s hubby (thank you very much, you guys!), and it was effing deliciously light, cake-like and moist. Thank you again, Rachel, for sharing it!
Rachel R.’s Hubby’s Banana Bread
* Start with all ingredients at room temperature, 68-70 degrees F. Put rack on lower third of the oven. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8.5″ x 4.5″ (6-cup) loaf pan.
* Thoroughly whisk together the following ingredients in a bowl:
1 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
¼ tsp. salt
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. freshly grated nutmeg* In a large bowl, beat on high speed until lightened in color and texture, approximately 2-3 minutes:
6 Tbsp. softened unsalted butter
1/3 c. granulated white sugar
1/3 c. light brown sugar
Beat in the flour mixture, adding a little at a time until blended and the consistency of brown sugar.* Gradually beat in until combined:
2 large eggs, lightly beaten* Fold in until just combined:
1 c. mashed, very ripe bananas (about 2 average-sized bananas)
½ c. coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional). You can also add in a 1/2 c. of chocolate chips, if you like.* Scrape the batter into the pan and spread evenly. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 50-60 mins. Let cool in the pan, on a rack, for 5-10 mins. Un-mold and let cool completely on the rack.
Mmm… OK, just copying/pasting that recipe made me really, REALLY want another slice, haha.
You have a great day, OK? I’ll talk to you soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Leah G. says
Hi Karen,
Thanks for the recipe! That looks tasty!
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? On days I don’t wash my hair I use Aveda’s Be Curly. I just lightly wet my hair and put a small amount in. It’s a lifesaver. Without this I would not be able to wear my hair down on days I did not wash it.
2. Cheesecake or pie? Pie when it is made by my Mom, my brother, or one of our best friends (she made us an apple pie recently). 🙂 My brother makes the pumpkin pie each Thanksgiving and usually puts a little bourbon in it. Yum!
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? A mystery. Although to be fair I steer clear of both of those sections at the library.
4. What’s the weather like today? 60F and sunny. The perfect New England Fall day.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? I worked at Staples during college and again in between jobs in 2003. That would be the last time I wore a uniform.
Karen says
You’re welcome, Leah G! Give that banana bread a go sometime soon. It’s tasty, easy and so, so yummy!
Enjoy the rest of your day and have a great week!
Angie says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
I don’t wash my hair everyday, and I use dry shampoo! Works wonders when you’re in a hurry!
2. Cheesecake or pie?
Cheesecake! I really enjoy and appreciate home made.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
I’m a hopeless romantic!!
4. What’s the weather like today?
It’s gloomy and cold.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
Last Saturday, I work in the medical field.
Karen says
Hi Angie,
Dry shampoo is a life saver. Seriously saves me so much time. Which one are you using and loving these days?
Angie says
I’ve been using Oscar Blandi voluminizing dry shampoo, I like it because it sprays clear!
Have a lovely evening!
Karen says
That must be really handy! It’s such a pain to have to deal with white roots.
You have a nice evening, too. 🙂
Tatiana says
Mmm, banana bread! I love banana bread. I also love persimmon bread. A woman in my French class a few semesters ago gave me a recipe for persimmon bread. I hope I can find it now… If not I can always make the above recipe for banana bread.
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? A CC cream. Color, moisture and SPF all in one.
2. Cheesecake or pie? Pie. Definitely pie. Apple, berry, nectarine berry, pumpkin, etc. Pie all the way. It’s about the crust for me.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? Mystery I guess. I’m just not that into romances.
4. What’s the weather like today? Thunder and rain! I’m hoping this eases some of the drought.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? Elementary school. Went to catholic school all the way through, but only my elementary school required a uniform. I specifically chose my high school because they didn’t require uniforms.
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
If you ever find that recipe for persimmon bread, I’d love it!
Tatiana says
Hi Karen, I just sent you an email with the persimmon bread recipe and a link to a second recipe.
Pamela Haddad says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
I swear by Pssst! Dry Shampoo. Love it!
2. Cheesecake or pie?
Pie, berry or cherry is preferred. Although if someone could make coconut cream w/no whipped cream like my mom did, I’d take that instead.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
Mystery, definitely! I’ll leave romance for real life.
4. What’s the weather like today?
It’s drizzling and cold. (poor Tabs, sorry he got so scared.)
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
Ewww, just the thought. Brown polyester with a hat at Carl’s Jr. And cuz of the poly, you could never get the smell of charbroiled hamburgers out of it! Yuck!
Karen says
Hi Pamela,
He was so frightened this morning! 🙁 I think it’s because the sound seems to come from all directions, and he can’t tell exactly where the source is. Does Simba handle bad weather OK? Or does it freak him out, too?
Pamela Haddad says
He seems to do ok with it. But we are in So Cal, so we don’t have thunder and lightening very often. And we have lathe and plaster walls, so it does muffle a lot of the sound from outside. I feel bad for Tabs, though. That is scary for them with their heightened sense of hearing!
Ruchita says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
Skipping washing my hair and just using dry shampoo. I usually wash my hair every other day and having even a little extra time in the morning helps!
2. Cheesecake or pie?
This is a tough one. I’m going to have to go with cheesecake. I love a simple cheesecake with fresh fruit. I do want to perfect my pie crust making skills though. I haven’t quite found the recipe that is “the one”, so I’m going to do some experimenting when I have time off for Thanksgiving.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
Mystery. I used to love reading the Nancy Drew novels when I was younger. A good mystery I recently read was “In a Dark, Dark Wood”. I finished it in a couple of days.
Also, I just recently took advantage of free eBooks from my local library and I’ve been downloading lots of books to my phone.
4. What’s the weather like today?
Sunny and mid 50s. Last week it was still in the 70s which is rare for Nov. Fall in Ohio is very pretty with the changing leaves.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
Hm, I don’t even remember. I do have work “uniforms” though. In the summer it’s usually a dress and cardigan. In the fall winter, it’s usually skinny jeans or leggings with all boots.
That banana bread looks yummy! Hope you’re having a good Monday!
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Would you believe that I’ve never made a pie from scratch? I’ve done cakes, brownies, cheesecakes and cupcakes, but I’ve yet to try a pie. For some reason it intimidates me.
I hope you give the banana bread a go. It’s so yummy!
Ruchita says
I usually only make pies around Thanksgiving or Christmas. I think its the pie crust that intimidates me. It never seems to bake up as pretty as I want it too. Oh well, at least it tastes good. Oh, and I love that plate with the cats. So cute! 🙂
Karen says
I think this will be the year that I conquer pecan pie. I’m on a mission! What kind do you usually make around the holidays? Pumpkin? Or fruit pies?
Pie crust seems pretty scary, but not as scary as macarons. Now those terrify me!
Adriana RP says
Hello beautiful mummy!
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
Helps a lot when I decide what to wear on the night before and leave it ready.
2. Cheesecake or pie?
knock, knock… pie, knock, knock… pie, knock, knock… pie!!!!
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
I am always reading more than one so I can change according to my mood.
4. What’s the weather like today?
Not exciting… warm but rainy
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
Really? No idea!!! Maybe on the school when I was 16. Well, there is also the uniform of my first job when I was 17.
Karen says
Hi Sweet Adriana!
How are you today? I hope that you’re having a good Monday so far!
Did you do anything exciting over the weekend? My brother visited from SF and had dinner and spent the night on Friday. Other than that it was pretty chill.
ADRIANA RP says
Hi Karen!
The week started with a lot of work! But I am surviving LOL
The weekend was great, friends with families come on saturday for a pizza night! Girls chating, boys drinking and kids playing XBOX… a recipe for fun!!!
I hope you are having a great week! Enjoy!!! 😉
Elizabeth says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
Letting my hair go natural (gray) saved me time not only in the mornings, but also every 6-8 weeks! It requires a lot less product these days. (odd but true)
2. Cheesecake or pie?
Hmm…really? I guess pie would take the lead here. I like lemon meringue pie and pecan pie. (not necessarily at the same time)
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
Ditto, Karen. I really good romantic mystery would be a great read if done in a mature adult text. Always like a good mystery.
4. What’s the weather like today?
Rain, Rain and More Rain! Lots of Rain…did I mention, Rain?
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
It would be a dance uniform for a jazz performance. A while back! 🙂
THANK YOU FOR THE DELICIOUS BANANA BREAD RECIPE! YUM!
Elizabeth says
That was supposed to read, A really like a good romantic…if I could type proper grammar it could be helpful here.
Karen says
Hi Elizabeth,
You’re welcome! I have to say Rachel R.’s hubby is a pro with the banana bread, LOL! There’s three slices left and after this afternoon maybe there will be none, haha. 🙂
By the way, if you have a good pecan pie recipe, don’t be afraid to share. 😀 I’ve yet to make one from scratch, so maybe this will be the year that I do it!
Sara says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
If I’m really lucky, my hair will look ok from the previous day and I won’t have to wash it which I love, but it’s rare. My hair is very fine and flat and only likes to look nice on days I wash it.
2. Cheesecake or pie?
Pie!
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
Romance
4. What’s the weather like today?
Beautiful! It’s a perfect fall day here in CT.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
Oh man,,,I don’t know if I ever had to. I guess cheerleading in high school haha
That banana bread looks delicious! I made pumpkin coffee cake over the weekend and basically devoured it. Blame it on baby hehe.
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
Pumpkin coffee cake sounds delicious! YUM!
How are you and your little girl doing today? Good I hope. Baby Girl is kicking up a storm!
Have you started thinking of names yet? We’re still undecided. This weekend I started putting together a wish list of baby things together… I’m gonna whittle that thing down until I get to the minimal amount. I still have it in my mind to be a minimalist mom!
Sara says
I have had a few favorite names for a long time, but I don’t think we will choose one beforehand. I want to meet her first:)
I do have quite a long list of baby list things, I’m not sure I’ll do very well being a minimalist mom with a little girl…I already just want to buy EVERYTHING!
Bree says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? Deciding on my outfit the night before & not putting on eyeliner. Having a routine.
2. Cheesecake or pie? Cheesecake, but I love cherry pie.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
Biker romances all day, everyday.
4. What’s the weather like today?
Overcast, cool. Typical fall weather for the Midwest. Finally I can wear my riding boots!
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? 6th grade cheerleading?
Karen says
Hi Bree,
Totally with you on deciding on what to wear the night before. I find that ironing the night before also helps save time, too!
By the way, I’m looking to find a pair of riding boots. How are you liking yours?
Bree says
Karen,
I don’t iron much lol I have used my flat iron in a pinch, though!
I LOVE my riding boots I have 3 pairs from Vince Camuto and 1 pair from Franco Sarto. I live in them in the winter time. I have my eye on another pair from VC. I really need to invest in some cute booties to give my taller boots a rest.
Karen says
Haha! I’ve done that too. *guilty*
I don’t have a pair of riding boots (yet) so thank you for the recs. Franco Sarto is a fave of mine too — I have a few pairs of their shoes and I wear them to death! 🙂
Hope that you’re having a nice Tuesday so far. It’s sunny and cold here in Nor Cal today, brr!
Carolyn says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
I finally found a dry shampoo that I actually like. I recently picked up the Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black and White dry shampoos. Since I have naturally curly hair that I wear straight most days, dry shampoo saves me a lot of time in the morning. It takes me an hour and a half to wash, blow dry and iron my hair!
2. Cheesecake or pie?
I’m not big on either but I do love Pumpkin Pie. My sister makes a fantastic cheesecake though.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
I love mystery novels, tv shows, movies, all of it, but sometimes you just need a good romance story.
4. What’s the weather like today?
Last night we had a bit of snow that’s still clinging on. Today is overcast, damp and cool. I love the snow though!
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
When I worked at SDM in the Beauty Boutique. I guess it’s not really a uniform, we just had to wear all black. I did go to a catholic high school so that was probably the last time I wore a proper uniform and even then I was constantly getting yelled at for walking around in my sock feet or having a vest or jacket over top of my school sweater.
Karen says
Hi Carolyn,
I just started using those Elizabeth & James dry shampoos and they are lovely! Which one are you using? I use the White one. I love the scent, and how my hair feels (not too stiff). The one by Living Proof is still my holy grail although I do think the Elizabeth & James dry shampoos are fab, too.
Allison C says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? I only have to “get ready” in the morning when I’m traveling on business so I have no idea. Since I often have to make an early flight in that case, I try to get ready as much as I can the night before.
2. Cheesecake or pie? pie without a doubt
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? mystery without a doubt
4. What’s the weather like today? sunny and cool
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? when I worked in a lab at The Rockefeller University, I wore a lab coat
Karen says
Hi Allison,
Ahh, lab coats! I rocked those back in the day in class. What did you do in the lab?
Allison C says
As a graduate student in experimental psychology, my work-study job was to clean out the animal cages. I can’t believe I ever did that, but I needed the money. Then I worked at The Rockefeller University in NYC in a lab that studied obesity. My mentor mostly did taste and behavior/diet studies with people and with animals. So I often gave the rats their special diet (sweetened condensed milk & Chips Ahoy cookies) or rat chow. We also did studies on newborn babies – with their mothers’ permission – to study their sucking patterns in response to a variety of waters with varying degrees of sweetness. It was amazing to see that at a certain level of sweetness (I can’t remember what but in the middle) babies would suck at a rhythmic rate and close their eyes or stare as if they were in a trance. We’re programmed from birth to like/prefer sweet things for survival purposes, but now we often don’t get enough exercise or physical labor to work off those extra calories.
Karen says
That’s very interesting research. Honestly, I’m one of those sugar loving people. When I have it I feel like one of those babies… I know exactly what you mean by sugar trance. I’ve noticed though that when I cut down on it, though, I seem to function much better, and my skin clears up.
Lulle says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? Well if I have to leave really early, I shower the night before instead of showering in the morning. I’m slow just after getting up so the shower can take a lot longer than it should!
2. Cheesecake or pie? I like a good cheesecake. A good pie too but I was introduced to cheesecake a lot later, so it still has that aura of novelty for me.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? Mystery! I really don’t care for romantic novels.
4. What’s the weather like today? It’s gray and it’s supposed to rain. Haven’t seen a drop yet thgough!
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? When I was around 18 I worked at the McDonald’s for a month, and that’s the only time I got to wear a uniform. I hated every minute of it…
Karen says
Hi Lulle,
I’m the same way with morning showers. Plus, I hate having to be wet and cold in the morning! It’s my least favorite thing (Tabs and I share that, LOL!).
I hope that if it rains today that you stay dry. Can you believe that it’s almost the holidays already? Do you have any holiday plans yet?
Lulle says
No real plans for the holidays yet, I’m still looking for a job so I don’t know if I could take any time off if I found one by then. We’ll just take it easy this year!
Karen says
We’re probably going to do the same thing. I can’t really travel that much so we’re sticking close to home.
I hope that you find a job you love soon! What industries are you looking at?
Erin says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
Not caring about perfection!
2. Cheesecake or pie?
Both. I shouldn’t have cheesecake due to it’s ingredients but about once a year I take all the pills and suffer for it. I love pie, especially cherry. Normally, I prefer a fruit crisp or crumble.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
Neither! I’m a Sci-fi or Fantasy fan. It’s rare I read outside that genre for pleasure.
4. What’s the weather like today?
Dark and windy!
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
Hmmm, I’ve had to wear a logo’d shirt a few times but never a uniform.
Karen says
Yes, letting go of perfection certainly helps in the morning!
monica says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
Not opening my email, FB, or instagram as soon as I wake up! I work from home and I don’t have fixed hours so most mornings I wake up and reach for my laptop and fiddle around until I’ve checked all my social media sites and before I know it, I’ve wasted an hour!
2. Cheesecake or pie?
Can I cheat and say both? I like baked NY style cheesecake, not the fake refrigerator kind held together by gelatin. I hate that! And my favorite pie is blueberry with vanilla ice cream.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
I enjoy brainless romance novels. I like my reading to be the same experience as watching TV. Light, funny, switch your brain off and forget your worries type of me-time.
4. What’s the weather like today?
The same everyday here in the tropics. Warm and sunny with the occasional rain shower.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
In high school we wore uniforms everyday. In college I had to wear a PE uniform for table tennis class. When I started working I wore my personal uniform – printed A-line skirt, plain shirt, ballet shoes.
Karen says
Hi Monica,
I’m with you avoiding social media first thing in the morning. I seem to get more done when I leave it until later!
And I’m with you on the cheesecake… Gimme a baked one any ol’ day!
Holly says
Happy Monday Karen; I love hearing updates on Baby Girl!
1. I lay out my clothes for the next day & make sure I have my bag packed & my lunch made the night before. I started doing this when I was still in school because I am emphatically not a morning person!
2. I prefer cheesecake; I like the texture & the generally more tart flavor but I certainly wouldn’t turn down cherry or blackberry pie with vanilla ice cream!
3. Mystery books for me all the way especially the ones that are more psychological thrillers. I also love British & Swedish mysteries.
4. I’m glad to have today off because it’s the perfect day to lounge around, read a book, & surf the web: about 45 degrees, gray & drizzling, & a little windy. The leaves are still coming down & they’re so pretty against the dreary sky & the green grass.
5. I had to wear corporate uniforms in my first three jobs (Jack in the Box, Grocery Outlet, & BP gas station). Then I worked in healthcare for a number of years & had more variety & could wear cuter clothes. I’m sort of back to a uniform look now that I’m a nanny & a caterer: layered camisoles, lightweight cardigans, jeans, & flats or Converse. I love fashion but I love comfort more!
On a completely unrelated note, I finally nailed tightlining & my eye makeup looks so much better! I sat down one day with my skinny black eyeliner & just tried a few times til it clicked. Then I tried it with skinny plum eyeliner when doing a smokey purple look last week & it was perfection. I just wish I could take a decent selfie to document it.
Karen says
Hi Holly,
Aww, thank you! She’s kicking up storm at the moment. It’s like she’s playing an entire soccer match by herself in there, LOL!
I didn’t know you were a nanny and a caterer. How many kids do you watch? And what kind of food do you make for catering?
And yeah, tightlining is one of those change-your-life kind of deals. I seriously always try to do it, even if I only have 5 minutes to get ready. 🙂 Taking a selfie is just like any other skill; practice it enough and you’ll get the hang of it. I think the biggest part is finding good light and good angles. Shooting from high up also helps, as well as taking a LOT of pics. I wrote a post in it a while back! If you’re interested, here’s the link: How to Take a Good Selfie. HTH!
Holly says
Thank you for the link; I’ll be reading that as soon as I’m done here!
I nanny for two of my nieces; Lily will be 4 in a couple weeks & Stella just turned 2. So much fun most of the time & so exhausting as well! The catering is sporadic which is fine as I work by myself & I work with the clients to come up with a menu according to their preferences & dietary issues. I’ve done a few weddings, a high school graduation party, several parties, a baby shower, & I’ve provided a half dozen meals for a local film production company in the last 18 months.
Karen says
You’re welcome. I hope it helps and let me know if you have any other questions. It’s just one of those things that you can eventually get down; practice really helps!
That’s so lovely that you get to be involved in your niece’s lives. I’m sure it’s a fun and rewarding job too. 🙂 And girl, props for being able to cater food for people! I couldn’t give my food away if I tried, LOL. OK, I’m not that bad, but definitely not good enough to pick up pocket change from it. How did you get started in the business? Was it something you’ve always wanted to do?
Holly says
I learned how to cook from helping my dad in the kitchen from a very young age. He loved to cook as a hobby & took various classes over the years; bread-making, Chinese, Italian, etc. I was offered a chance to cater a meal for my previous church & jumped at it & now I leave up to word of mouth which has worked pretty well for me. Unfortunately, the catering jobs started after my dad passed away so he didn’t get see me do what we loved to do together. I still use his knife daily in the kitchen & I make his recipes occasionally. Bittersweet, for sure.
Rachel R. says
I’m so glad you liked the banana bread! I’ll let my hubby know.
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? Planning my outfit and makeup the night before.
2. Cheesecake or pie? I love both, but I prefer cheesecake.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? Mystery
4. What’s the weather like today? Dark, gray, cold and rainy.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? I’ve never worn a true uniform. Never did band or sports. Never been in the military. I worked in an insurance office and did the navy and black suit with a blouse thing right after college. I hated it! Decades ago when I worked at Target, we had to wear beige bottoms and red shirts, or white with red over it. I only worked part-time then, and we could mix up what we wore as long as the colors were right, so it was bearable.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
Oh my gosh, I just ate *another* piece of that banana bread. Now there’s only two more slices left, and it’s been less than 24 hours! It was so tasty. Thank you again for the recipe.
Rachel R. says
My hubby is so pleased that you like it so much. It made his day! It doesn’t last long around here, either. lol
Kwmechelle says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? Taking a shower at night certainly helps things go faster for me, even though I don’t always shower before bed.
2. Cheesecake or pie? Pie! Peach cobbler to be exact. I need to find a recipe and learn how to make one. I suddenly have a hankering for some peach cobbler.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? Hmmm, neither. I’m fond of historic fiction. It’s my fave genre.
4. What’s the weather like today? Very much like your’s and tomorrow is slated to be much of the same. It’s not storming but it’s soggy & rainy. I’m ready for some sun & warmth.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? Prolly when I worked in fast food in college. Miss college. Don’t miss working in fast food 🙂
Mel. B. says
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? To shower the night before.
2. Cheesecake or pie? Pie all the way.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? Neither but I enjoy a good romantic-comedy story.
4. What’s the weather like today? Sunny and gorgeous. The temperature is great for this time of year…11 degrees. This is considered warm for November in Montreal, Quebec

1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning?
Waking up early. No matter how much prepping I do the night (or day) before I find I’m always rushing in the morning anyways. Waking up super early just makes things go by more smoothly and I don’t feel rushed.
2. Cheesecake or pie?
Cheesecake of course.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery?
Probably a romance that developed into a mystery.
4. What’s the weather like today?
It was sunny with a slight chilled wind.
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform?
Not since I was like 18 for a fast food job I had.

Late to the party! I have some over-ripe bananas on my counter I need to do something with. I’ll have to do gluten-free, of course, but your bread looks amazing!
1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? I shower at night! My hair does fine without heat styling, and if I showered in the morning, my face would probably be red for hours.
2. Cheesecake or pie? Cheesecake. I’m not a huge pie person unless it involves chocolate. I mean, I like apple or cherry pies, but there’s other desserts I’d rather have.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? I’m with you on young adult with both romance and mystery!
4. What’s the weather like today? Chilly! 30 something with frost. Grump!
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? Probably working at Macy’s in 2011! The counter I worked at had us wear these horrible pleather vests with slots for all our makeup brushes, along with all-black ensembles. I would be just covered in sweat from the pleather by the end of the day. At least we escaped the wool blazers of another counter…

I can’t think of anything that saves me time in the mornings. I prefer a pie to a cheesecake. I like reading mysteries to romances. The weather is great. I last wore a uniform 15 years ago when I used to work at a hospital.

1. Something that saves you time when you’re getting ready in the morning? I have a makeup “uniform,” with everything I wear for a basic face in one particular cosmetic bag and no extraneous makeup things in it. My Kon-Mari closet also saves me lots of time. Pants, for example, I’m down to seven pairs.
2. Cheesecake or pie? I really love cheesecake but I guess I would have to go with pie.
3. Would you rather read a romance, or a mystery? Romance. I need a happy ending, even if it’s just fictional. Plus, I’ve read some pretty good ones in the past few years. I recommend Pamela Clare’s I-Team series.
4. What’s the weather like today? 60 and sunny 🙂
5. When was the last time you wore a uniform? I went to a Catholic girls school. It was white polo shirts and green plaid skirts. 🙂
