You might be wondering, “So what in tarnation is this Monday Poll thing anyway!?”
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past seven years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Are you currently using any serums?
Yes! I’ve got two in rotation at the moment…sort of, except for not right at this second, because I ran out of one of them and need to replace it ASAP. But when I do, I’ll have two in rotation again. The first is Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate, which I use mostly for hydration and to even out my skin tone. I’ve gone through two big bottles of it, and I still love it. The second is good ol’ Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, another anti-aging serum which I’ve been using for years because it’s high in antioxidants and helps my skin texture. - What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
I really wasn’t into lash primers AT ALL before I met Estee Lauder’s Little Black Primer. Basically, I thought they were a waste of time and money, but Little Black Primer totally changed that. Now I feel like it’s a necessity for me and my lashes. Whenever I use it under mascara, it kicks things up several notches. My lashes look longer, curlier and more lush. I just finished a tube (Why does it seem like I always run out of batches of beauty products at the same time? It’s so weird…) and need to replace it ASAP. - Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
YES! I love boots, which is a little funny because I’m all about toe freedom in spring and summer, but I don’t mind confining those bad boys when it gets cold.I have a pair of sassy suede olive green boots by Fergie (as in the singer! — Fergalicious) that I’ve worn for the past few seasons. They’ve held up well, and they’re my favorite pair to wear in fall, although I don’t know how much use I’m going to get out of them this year because they have also have a heel, and I keep noticing that my lower back gets all wonky when I wear high heels. Baby Girl has been keeping me in flats these days.
- Do you do oversized rings?
On a daily basis, no, because I can’t type with ’em! They’re too heavy and distracting, but I do like to wear a tasteful cocktail ring on special occasions. - Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Honestly, when have my bangs not involved a disaster? It seems like every time I get bangs something goes awry. I have wavy hair, and the shorter it is, the more unruly it gets. All of my bangs disasters have come about because of this. You’d think I would have learned this lesson by now, but noooo. There’s one variety of bangs I can handle, and that’s the side sweep. I love me a good side sweep…
Your turn. 🙂 Just copy and paste the following questions into a comment with your answers. I look forward to reading ’em!
1. Are you currently using any serums?
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
4. Do you do oversized rings?
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Hi! Helloooooo! *waves from my desk in Northern California* 🙂 Happy Monday to ya. I think that today will be the day when I get my first fall pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks (decaf, of course). It’s actually overcast and cool outside right now. Are you in?
And P.S., I won’t refuse to split a brownie with you. Just putting that out there.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Ruchita says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Not currently. I’m using a Garnier dark spot corrector in the mornings, but that’s about it. I need to step up my nightly skin care routine. Lately, I’ve just been removing my makeup and falling into bed.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Eye shadow primer. There are so many good products out there, drugstore and higher end. I love how they keep my shadows looking fresh all day!
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Ooo, it’s hard to narrow it down to one, but I would have to go with these basic, black riding boots from Tahari. I randomly found them in Marshalls last year and I wore them all the time. I also have a pair of pointy-ish toe black ankle boots I wear frequently with dress pants.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
No. I do like the look of them, but haven’t ever thought to add them to my jewelry collection.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Too many times to count. I think the worst was back in middle school when I trimmed my bangs myself and went too short. This was back when big bangs were still a thing, so it was quite a traumatic experience. I spent countless hours with the curling iron and hairsprary trying to get them to look just right! 🙂
Happy Monday! Hope you and the little one are doing well! My local farmer’s market has the best apple cider and homemade donuts, so that’s my way of kicking off the fall season. 🙂
Erin says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Yes, I’m using Good Genes on and off as well as three serums from Derma E: Brightening, Soothing, and Hydrating. It all depends on what my skin needs. I usually use Derma E in the day and the SR at night!
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Does Fresh Lipbalm count?
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yes, but I only have two pairs and I rarely wear either right now! I need some fresh ones! The ones I have I like are knee high and black with a three-inch heel. I have muscular calves and these are only ones to fit me with room enough for thick jeans.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
No, I have small hands. Too big is silly looking. Some will work if I wear them on my middle finger, it all depends on the piece.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
I’ve had them cut a little too short but that’s about it.
Holly says
Good morning to you from the also cool Pacific Northwest! Even though I never left the state this summer, I feel as if I’m finally home; I don’t enjoy hot weather at all.
Onto the poll!
1. I’m not using any serums although some nights I use an organic sleep balm by Badger full of lavender oil & other great ingredients as an extra moisturizer. I’ve been thinking about serums off & on; I’m not concerned in the slightest about wrinkles but one packed full of anti-oxidants & vitamins would be great.
2. Dermablend setting powder! I prep my eyelids with it then after I do my eyes & before I apply mascara, I dust some on top & nothing moves for hours. I’ve also used it to set my lipstick.
3. I’m not a boot wearer; I’m barely a shoe wearer! I may have to purchase a pair for this winter if it ends up being as cold & wet as they say.
4. While I have a few oversized rings, I can’t remember the last time I wore any. I rarely wear any jewelry & I think my earlobes might be closing up…eek! Maybe I should remedy that at least!
5. I have a very strong cowlick on the right side of my forehead so I fight with it every morning! As long as I spritz it & brush it down quickly before my hair starts to dry, the weight of my bangs pulls it down just fine.
I purchased two new products this weekend from my local Bartell’s (locally owned drugstore). Physician’s Formula was 40% off plus each product had an instant $3 off coupon. I picked up Nude Wear Touch of Glow which claims to highlight, conceal, & touch-up. First time I’ve used an undereye concealer/brightener & I relaly like it. It’s light-weight, blends well, & I don’t have to use a separate highlighter if I’m pressed for time. The other product is from the Sexy Booster line, the Cayeye Liquid Liner. I haven’t tried it yet but it apparently has pheremones & smells like vanilla!
I hope you have a lovely day. I’m off to watch my nieces; the older one (not quite 4 years old) is going to her first day of preschool this afternoon. Her mama will take her & then I get to pick her up!
Sabrina says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
I use Lush’s Full of Grace serum weekly underneath my masks, and then every day in the winter but otherwise my skin freaks out when I use serums. Also, I plan to save my money on those until I can no longer get away with it.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Recently, it was clear lip liner and the NYX brow gel.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
YAS GIRL! They’re black, mid calf and quilted leather. I love them. I love them so much. I also have my favorite combat boots that have seen more autumns than is healthy, but I cannot let them go.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
Nope. Mostly because my fingers are already large so finding rings to fit is annoying. Also, I don’t want to lose one while gesturing wildly around.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs
I wouldn’t call it a disaster per-say, but when I was little and wanted to grow out my bangs, my mom refused to let me? If she ever saw them in my eyes while I was growing them out, she threatened to cut them! I asked her about it recently and she has no idea why she was so against me without bangs. But now, my life is all bangs. I finally mastered the side swoop.
Alexis says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Kate Somerville’s Quench is my JAM!!!!
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Primers – for sure! I tried Too Faced Shadow Insurance based on your reviews many moons ago and now my eye primer mainstay – NARS Pro Primer
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yeah I have a pair from Nine West that’s about 7-8 yrs old and still kicking – they are like a worn in reddish brown saddle color and a hybrid of a cowboy (with an almond toe) and pirate boot. I know sounds weird but so awesome and gives me swagger when I walk in them!
4. Do you do oversized rings?
I’m wearing some right now…I blame Lisa Eldridge. When I’m trying to watch one of her tutorials, I am distracted by her pretty rings and gorgeous nail colors.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Last disaster is when I was 4 when I tried to give myself bangs. From then on, I would always have someone else trim them for me. I can’t be trusted with cutting shears. I’ve worn bangs in every version: long, side swept, brow grazing, Betty Page short (late 90’s). I will say that you may want to consider it seriously because when your little cupcake is born, you won’t have a whole lot of time to get them trimmed.
Ericca says
1.Are you currently using any serums? Yes, I am. I use Bosica eye serums and Caudalie SOS thirst serum. I also a Strivectin anti wrinkle cream for my neck
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you? Matte lipstick
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots? umm , no but I have every intention on finding some.
4. Do you do oversized rings? no.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs? Well, I got my bangs cut thinking I was very bardot. So, not true. I ended up putting the bangs back into my pony tail. When I met a new stylist because of a anesthesiologist, hauty tauty , he told me was I going for the 12 year old look. is that bad enough
Carolyn says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
I currently have way too many skincare products on the go. My daytime routine is always the same but at night I just kinda put on whatever I feel like. Right now I’m using the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Booster which I really like. And I also like the Dr. Dennis Gross Concentrates.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Probably mascara. Even though people always tell me I have really long thick lashes, I’m just not seeing that lately. Because I’ve been paying very close attention to taking care of my skin I can just get away with mascara, concealer and blush, but the one that makes the biggest difference is the mascara.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
I’ve always wanted to be a girly girl, but no matter how much I try, I always end up in my same old tom boy looks. Today I traded my flip flops for my Blundstones. I’m like you Karen and love my toes to be free but I gotta admit I don’t mind wearing socks for my Blunnies cause they’re just so comfy and easy. And sometimes I’ll wear them with a dress for a bit of a 90’s girly vibe.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
I usually have a band of some design on each hand, but any big rings are reserved for special occasions or they’ll drive me nuts all day.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
I have naturally curly hair, a big forhead and a pronounced widows peak. Not the best combination so having bangs helps 2 of those issues. Right now they really need a trim so they’re pinned back. I used to always trim them myself cause it needs to be done every 2 weeks max. I stopped doing that though because it takes me about 45 minutes to do otherwise I will end up with a disaster as I have many times before. I can’t even tell you how many times my hairdresser has asked me “Who trimmed your bangs last?”. Oops!
Hope you had a great weekend Karen! Saturday in Calgary was super hot and sunny. Perfect for shorts and a tee. Then Sunday was rainy and cold. Calgary can never seem to make up its mind on the weather. Oh well, only 4 more days until next weekend!!!
Syah says
1. Are you currently using any serums?

2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
A kohl eyeliner for tightlining and waterlining.

Yes when I cut my own baby doll bangs at 16. I went to school the next day and people said I looked like Hilary Duff.
Chelsea says
1. Are you currently using any serums? I’m using Hafa Labo Tokyo Replenishing Hydrator off and on, same with VetaVe Skin Renewing Serum with retinol. I’m breaking out like crazy at the moment, ugh.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you? NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof eyeshadow base!
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots? I have a pair of black knee high boots with a 2ish inch heel that I love.
4. Do you do oversized rings? Nope.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs? I haven’t had bangs since I was 11, LOL!
Sara says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair but not as often as I was.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
The beauty blender! I finally got one over the Summer and I have to say, I love how it makes my foundation look. It’s just a pain to clean so I don’t use it everyday!
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yes! They’re by Naturalizer, I forget the name of the style, but they come out with similar styles each year. They’re just below the knees, flat but with a tiny heel and they are a staple for me during the fall months.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
Nope.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Oh yes, many times!
Hi Karen! Hope you had a good weekend! Question for you, have you changed any of your skincare products since finding out you were pregnant? Also, me know how the pumpkin spice latte is in decaf! does it taste pretty much the same?
Kwmechelle says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Yep, this stuff. Game changer! Dr Dennis Gross Eye Serum. That’s not the official name but you can find it at Sephora. It’s hella expensive but sooo worth it.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you? NARS Radiant Creamy concealer. Now, mind you, I don’t need a ton of coverage. And the above serum does a knock out job. But I do find that using this concealer makes me feel more polished & pulled together. Can’t leave home without it 🙂
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yes, these. I have them in black. I wear them with EVERYTHING! They’re making their Fall debut this week 🙂
http://m.bonanza.com/listings/zigi-girl-talia-boots-sz-7-5-m-women-s-dark-green-leather-zigigirl-heel-200/222973799?gpid=68416460221&gpkwd=&goog_pla=1&gclid=CJzr16KU98cCFUGRHwodUrkJ1Q
4. Do you do oversized rings? Nope, they distract me from everything- driving, cooking, eating, basically, all of life. But I do think they’re cute.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs? Nope. In fact, when I press my hair out again, maybe for Christmas, I’m getting bangs. Hello, 17, again 🙂 And, yes, please do save me some of your brownie. It’s one of those kind of days. But who am I kidding? Everyday is a brownie day ?
denise S says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Yes I use Estee Lauder night serum at night and Boots serum during the day
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
False Eyelashes! When I finally got the hand of applying them they make such a difference .
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
I have a pair of blue suede boots I like to wear with jeans. And a short pair of tan suede and embroidery ,with fur trim . The Uggs are so cute and comfortable. Like bedroom slippers!
4. Do you do oversized rings?
No I like how they look on others but I rarely wear rings.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Except for short periods I’ve always worn bangs . Occasionally they get trimmed too short. But they grow so fast . Sometimes they are too long. But I love me some bangs.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Kalli says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Not right now. In the winter, I’ll add in a facial oil just because my skin gets so dry but that’s about it. A few years ago, I used to work concierge at a day spa and we got to buy Skinceuticals for 10% over wholesale! That was the most extensive my skin care routine ever got, haha.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Finding nude lipsticks that don’t make me look like death warmed over! Current faves are Urban Decay Protest, MAC Modesty and Revlon’s Lip Butter in Pink Truffle.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
My cowboy boots! I have two pairs and one set I won from an Absolut vodka contest! One set are Tony Lama’s that are cognac brown with orange, green and white floral embroidery. The pair I won are Justin’s that are a cool toned brown with blue and white embroidery. I had a pair of slouchy, heeled Steven Madden boots but I had to get rid of them after last winter because they were legit falling apart.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
I wear cocktail rings sometimes, but most days I just wear my college class ring which isn’t too big.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
I haven’t really had real bangs since I was little, I’ve mostly done longer, side-swept bags that are easier to manage.
Allison C says
1. Are you currently using any serums? yes several: MitoQ, a serum whose name I can’t remember with gold flecks in it, Skinceuticals, several by Paula’s Choice
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you? I’d have to say IT Cosmetics CC Cream with full-coverage with a high SPF
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots? several! red boots, low healed black boots with a fabulous silver embellishment, leopard super high heel boots and several others too. So I guess I don’t have one single favorite!
4. Do you do oversized rings? no
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs? no because I have been wearing bangs just about my entire life 😉
Shannon says
Oh gosh, does pumpkin spice sound good!! I made molasses cookies this weekend, because I needed me some fall goodness 🙂 I bet they’d go really well with a pumpkin spice latte!
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Nope. I’m on the coconut-and-avocado-oil-for-everything facial regimen 🙂 and I’m lovin it!
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Dove Body Wash. Their moisturizing-whateverness is my FAVORITE THING. I don’t even notice how great they make my skin feel until I switch to something else – like the hubby’s shower gel – and suddenly feel all dry and over-extracted when I get out of the shower. Props to Dove! <3
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yes! I have these chic little Sofft booties (black leather) that I got in like, 2009. They've been rebuilt at least twice, and I'm afraid they're going to bite the dust soon 🙁 I can't even imagine lookign for something to replace them… it's too sad!
4. Do you do oversized rings?
I think they're awesome, but I don't tend to wear them. I feel like they'd draw attention to my hands, which I love in real life but not in still life… I feel like my fingers look sausagey in pictures 😛 so I don't want photographic evidence of my fingers lookin pudge-a-rific along with some hefty bling to attract MORE attention to them. But who knows! Maybe I could sport some huge shiny things on my digits to distract from their unphotogenic nature.. is that how that works? lol. 🙂
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Oh goodness. Yes. at LEAST twice. When I was in Jr. High, my hair was crazy long and I wanted to cut it so bad. So I started cutting these "wispy" long bangs around my face (you know how people did in the 00s) and I totally failed at it. I had this like, total 5-year-old hair-snipping moment when my dad asked me "did you cut your hair?!?" Yes, dad, this gross choppy block of long bangs IS in fact something I did myself. 😛 oh, Jr. High Shannon.
The other time I can remember is when I was around 22 and had a chin-length bob, and decided to chop some across-the-forehead bangs, which I'd always wanted to try but had never done. So, snip snip, another self-cut bang experiment. Turns out you should only have bangs like that if your hair is stick straight. Mine has just enough wave/body to make everything complicated. WAY too high maintenance for an everyday thing, especially since I was trying to hide my shoddy chop-job along with trying to get my hair to lay in the right direction. #ugh. Growing them out was all sorts of suck, too.
Kim says
Happy Monday! 🙂
1. Are you currently using any serums? Still nursing the samples of the Algenist Genius Vitamin C+ serum.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you? Faux Cils, fo sho! Even though I rotate it now with Chanel Le Volume, it showed me what a good volumizing mascara can do.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots? Currently my Keen hiking boots; it’s season 2 with them and they’ve been holding up great. Don’t worry, though. I only wear them to hike.
4. Do you do oversized rings? Never. All my jewelry is understated and I regularly give my big-ring wearing friend a hard time (jokingly). She loves to wear a ring that reminds me of the Green Lantern. HAHA!
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs? Every bang incident is a disaster for me. Cowlicks are the bane of my hair existence. 🙂
Rachel R. says
1. Are you currently using any serums? No, but I have some from beauty boxes. They don’t seem to do anything for my face. Someone suggested I use them under my eyes, so I might try that.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you? Eyeshadow primer! I have super-oily lids that make everything crease within an hour or less. I used to have to use foundation and setting powder with mineral makeup, it was the only way I could get eyeshadows to last. With primer, I could really wear more brands, and my eyeshadow lasts 12+ hours before creasing.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots? No, I don’t really wear them a lot. I’m happy if they fit. lol
4. Do you do oversized rings? Yes; I love them.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs? Not since I was a teenager. I’ve had some bad cuts. I hate having bangs, so once my mom had no say in my hair, I stopped wearing them. It just really annoys me to have hair that close to my eyes.
Tatiana says
1. Are you currently using any serums? Yes, too many. Chantecaille Vital Essence and one from Sarah Chapman for moisture. And ones from Dr. Dennis Gross and Algenist for the anti-aging thing.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Nothing comes to mind. But I do love the Estee Lauder Little Black Primer as well. It helps keep most of my mascaras from smudging. And it adds that little extra oomph to them as well.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
OMG! Those Fergie boots are HOT. Drools.
All of them!!?? Let’s see. 3 pairs riding boots. Loads more with heels and without. But my favorite day to day pair for the winter are calf height, black, Cole Haan, combat boots with about a 1 to 1 1/2 inch heel and that cushy air insole thing they used to do.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
Other than my wedding ring I don’t wear rings on a day to day basis. And I only put on my diamond when we’re going out.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Bangs are always a disaster on my face/head. I like to wear them long enough so they fall completely over my eyes and not into them.
Cherie says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Always! I rotate through different ones, but I always try to use a vitamin c serum and an antioxidant packed oil – Right now its Skinceuticals CE Ferulic and Arcona wine oil.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Eye primer. I hated eye makeup because of my oily lids so I just stuck to simple eye liner and mascara. Now I’m experimenting again. Oh, and Perricone’s No Foundation Foundation. Suits my skintone so well and makes getting through my morning getting ready a breeze.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yes, my suede grey boots. Love ’em and always feel validated when I walk around and ladies are staring at my shoes 🙂
4. Do you do oversized rings? No, I have small hands, but I love looking at them and buying them for others (just bought my grandmother a huge yellow quarts cocktail ring — she loves it!)
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs. I generally stay away from bangs. I’ve got wavy/curly hair so it never really worked for me. But…..as a kid I did cut my bangs before my 3rd grade picture and my mother had a field day trying to get my hair to look normal (she did the best she could, but the picture is funny!).
Cherie says
*yellow quartz ring!
MonicaP says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
I’m using a vit C serum from The Body Deli.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Estee Lauder Double wear products ~ esp the light foundation and their eye liners (da best!).
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yes, a suede pair of ankle boots from Clarks.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
Sometimes, like a cocktail ring if I’m going out to dinner.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Permed bangs ~ need I say more?
Monica.
Trude says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Just at night, the Kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate, which is good but I don’t feel like I get much redness reduction. I plan on trying one from Ren once this runs out, because it’s one you can use AM and PM.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
I think my Beauty Blender. I had been using a foundation brush, and I liked it okay, but when I started using the BB it was like suddenly my foundation could conceal and still look natural! And get blended in quickly! And keeping the sponge clean is easy! It’s such an amazing product. 🙂
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
I have this pair from Naturalizer that I got two years ago after looking everywhere. They were on sale and in my size and it was one of those “angels started singing” shopping moments. 🙂 I buff in leather conditioner every so often and they’re still going strong.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
I’m like you – not for everyday when I’m at the computer, but it’s fun for weekends.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
When I was about 8 and my mom was still determined to trim them. She wound up cutting them so short trying to get them straight that I think we were both fed up after that! I grew them out and didn’t try bangs again until I was about 25. 🙂
Efrain says
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Nope but I need to buy one for hydration. Any rec of a good cheap one?
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
I won’t say product but technique: mixing products.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yes they’re an old pair of brown leather boots.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
I don’t use rings because I don’t feel really comfortable with them and get easily distracted.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Right now I’m having one and I forget to bring all my money for get a haircut and didn’t have classes today *sigh*
Audrey says
hey Efrain, try the hydrating serum by Avène, it’s great and not expensive =)
actually there are good pharmacy serums that are not too expensive (if you’re just looking for hydration).
Amoure Jones says
Happy Monday Karen, Tabs and all,
I pray you all are having a wonderful day thus far.
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Not currently , but I’m looking for some good ones for the under eye area if anyone has suggestions.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Kiss Aqua BB cream – changed the game. Now I’m able to keep my face flawless all year around without worrying that I’ll over heat in the Summer.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Unfortunately, I don’t.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
I like large estate/cocktail rings.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
No bang disasters to report.
Kwmechelle says
P.S. I WANT those boots!!!! Have mercy!
Audrey says
Hey Karen, it’s been a few weeks I follow your blog now and the work you do is absolutely fantastic!
So, here are my answers:
1. Are you currently using any serums?
Yes! the bioderma moisturizing concentrate. It keeps my skin (dehydrated and combination, perfect lol) soft all day long. I’d love to try the Super Aqua by Guerlain, but it’s quite expensive (I tried it on the back of my hand and it’s just amazing).
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
Eyebrow pencil. It’s crazy how it can transform your face. I have blond brows, so not really visible. From the moment I started to do my brows, I couldn’t stop. That’s how you realize how brows shape and gives a real structure to the face. Even when I go out with just my base done, I don’t feel comfortable if my brows are not done. It feels like something’s missing.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Yes, their are sort of camel color, with wedge heels, but so comfortable. I bought them in sale two years ago. They’re in leather so they’re not really damaged. And I’ll rock them this winter again!
4. Do you do oversized rings?
I think it’s actually kinda cool when you have one big ring on your finger, but I wouldn’t add any necklace or earrings, I think the ring is sufficient in itself.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
No cause I don’t rock bangs but I’d love too!!! I have thin hair, so it’s not really managable.
(ps: if you ever have a tip to rock bangs with thin hair, I take it!!)

1. Are you currently using any serums?
~I use some on and off. I use retinol when my skin starts to act up, so about a few times a week (I use the RoC duo with the resurfacing serum). I’m always looking for a new drugstore one that is good, though.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
~Makeup setting spray, the ones that UD makes (I love Chill and All Nighter). It makes my makeup stay fresh all day, and keeps it from rubbing off. Make Up For Ever was also a game changer because I hadn’t seen too much waterproof stuff. I may be looking at a waterproof concealer and foundation by them of sorts because my new job will involve water rescue training, some of it possibly including vehicle water rescues, and I like to be able to cover up my zits and zit scars (gotta look good when doing water rescue training, right?). Kidding – I will probably go without makeup for that part but I do like something that will stay in place in an otherwise very active job.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
~I really love these heeled boots I got from Off Broadway Shoes in Frederick. Don’t know the brand, but they are heeled (with about a 2″ chunky, stable heel), and a tan/saddle brown in color. I love them because they dress up any outfit and are comfy. They instantly make jeans and a tee look effortlessly cool.
4. Do you do oversized rings?
~I do own cocktail rings but hardly wear them. I may start accessorizing with them from time to time, more, though. Since pretty much all of my jobs have involved some kind of uniform, I do like getting to dress up in my off time.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
~Not so much bangs, but because of psoriasis episodes, I’ve lost hair in the front of my head. I get pieces that grow back and I have to pin/braid them because they either stick straight up or won’t cooperate until they get longer. And they are baby fine pieces, so it can take a while for them to grow out. I have one piece that finally got longer that has been growing out for a year and a half.

1. Are you currently using any serums?
Yes, a vitamin C serum in the morning, and a hyaluronic acid serum in the evening.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you?
It’s more of a tool, but a lash curler. My lashes are super straight, stubborn and like to point downwards so a lash curler makes an enormous difference for me.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
Not at this time, San Diego is rarely cold enough to justify wearing boots!
4. Do you do oversized rings?
No, I like to be able to use my hands! I can wear one for a night or a special occasion though.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs?
Oh yes… I had bangs when I was a kid, and I didn’t like the way they looked, I thought they were too thick. So I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut off half of it, the bottom layer (strand of hair growing closest to my forehead), as short as I could, just a millimeter past the skin. It didn’t look pretty when it grew back…

1. Are you currently using any serums? Yes, it’s orange and Ole Henrickson, truth serum collagen booster. It makes my skin feel new and I love the light scent.
2. What was a game-changing makeup product for you? Bobbi Brown’s white powder for my brow bones. Looks super great.
3. Do you have a favorite pair of boots? no, I have trouble finding boots that I like.
4. Do you do oversized rings? I did and I still have them but I’ve been in this really weird, abnormal not wearing jewelry phase for the past two years. My whole life I’ve been about the jewelry but now I can’t be bothered.
5. Have you ever had a disaster with bangs? Oh yes, I’ve had them cut way too short before. Now, my texture is weird and I don’t dare to get them because the shorter my hair gets the curlier. I don’t even want to think what bangs would look like on me these days.
The only way I would share a brownie with you is if I got my own and then split a second one with you. Starbucks brownies are just too darn good.
