You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past four years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
“I can sleep for 10 more minutes…” Let me tell ya, I did not want to get up this morning. I would have kept hitting the snooze button if it hadn’t been for Tabs, who was aggressively up in my grill begging for breakfast. - Have you been reading anything lately?
The Great Gatsby. Re-reading it. I want to get through it before the new Baz Lurhmann version comes out with Leo.I’ve also sort of committed to reading some of the classics again this year — you know, the things they made us read in school. If you have any favorites, please let me know!
- When was the last time you wore false lashes?
Valentine’s Day. - What are your three secrets to happiness?
- To pick your battles carefully (in other words, you can’t win ’em all or do everything)
- To look for silver linings everywhere
- To adopt stray cats 😉
- Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
OOH! So tough. Well, for traveling, definitely palettes, but if I’m not going far from home, then single pans. - What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
I’m probably a little more — okay a lot more! — emotional than many folks, and it’s kind of a pain in the @ss, because I take everything to heart. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve cried in front of strangers on trains/on the phone/at the supermarket/etc. because of something small, and it’s a struggle sometimes to keep it together. But at the same time, I’m thankful for my emotions. I think they help me empathize with others and express myself creatively.
- Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
Skinceuticals C E Ferulic has. It’s been a minor miracle for me. Since I started using it, my skin definitely feels smoother, I get fewer breakouts around my chin, which is one of my troubled spots, and I think my skin tone just looks more even.Love the stuff!
- Do you like your hair better long or short?
For the most part, long. It depends. I go through phases, but I always return to long.I like keeping my hair short, too, but weirdly it’s so much more work. I can’t just ignore it when it’s short. I have to style it, but when it’s long, I can just throw it in a bun or ponytail and not have to think about it. Plus, when it’s cold in winter, longer hair sure keeps my head and neck warmer.
- Is there something you’re currently lemming?
Yargh, the YSL Summer collection. I keep thinking about the quads and the new Manifesto perfume… - Write yourself a Post-It note:

The friendships I have are quality and when I go out and about I have a really great time and I’m there because I want to be there.

Kim says
Happy Monday! 🙂
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning? Oh, man, I could use 5 more hours of sleep!
2. Have you been reading anything lately? I’m about to re-read some of the Game of Thrones books. My friends who haven’t read them keep asking details about this season of the show and some of the story lines are a bit fuzzy. I need a refresher!
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes? Never (hangs head in shame).
4. What are your three secrets to happiness? Try to tune out the negative, spend time with my friends and get enough sleep!
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans? Not being too shadowy, I’m pretty ambivalent.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish? Maybe that I’m super competitive. It’s probably very annoying to others while playing Trivial Pursuit, etc with me but it definitely drives me to be better all-around.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life? I really love my Clarisonic. I think it’s been great for my complexion.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short? I like the look of it better when it’s long but I prefer the maintenance time when it’s short (so much faster to blow dry!).
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming? Hmmmm, let me think…what could it be… Chanel Le Volume, of course!
10. Write yourself a Post-It note: Get off your lazy a*s and stop eating! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kim,
How funny that you mention the Game of Thrones books. I still haven’t finished the first one. It’s just that I never quite got over what happened to Ned. 🙁
How was your weekend?
Kim says
I hear you. I actually wrote in an email to a friend yesterday (about the show): I still miss Ned. There are other characters/relationships that I really like but I’ll never get over Ned either. 🙁
It was good, but busy. It was the Hubs’ b’day on Saturday but we had so much going on that we didn’t get to bring him to dinner until Sunday night. How about you guys?
Btw, I’m quite interested in Gatsby because of Leo and Baz, too. How are you liking the book? I haven’t read it in many years because I absolutely hated Daisy as a character. I might have a different opinion now (with some more life experience under my belt). 🙂
Trisha says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
“That was an interesting dream…” I dreamt that I became a cheerleader for an adult cheerleading squad that rooted for a basketball team, and I was really nervous about our first game because three guys were going to be there: the guy I had a crush on in high school, the guy I liked best of all the guys I’ve dated, and John Krasinski.
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
I’ve been re-reading the first Harry Potter because I JUST got back from a vacation to Universal Orlando and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. And yes, I bought a wand. 😉
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
Months ago. It’s just not my thing.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
1. Always look on the bright side.
2. Eat cake on occasion.
3. Surround yourself with the things and people you love.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Palettes! I think they’re just way more cost-effective. I only buy single pans if they’re on super clearance.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
I cherish all my imperfections. 😉 But maybe my love of solitude.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
I can think of makeup and hair products that have had that kind of impact, but not skincare…I feel left out!
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
At the moment, long. Although, it looks pretty darn awesome short, too. I just don’t love it when it’s in-between.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
Nope!
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
“Happy 5 year blog anniversary! You’re awesome!”

Laura says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning? I need to go grocery shopping… (and I ended up buying a brand new watch!).
2. Have you been reading anything lately? No, I don’t have time unfortunately, but I’m going away for a few days this week with my mom. Maybe I’ll start reading something new!
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes? For Valentine’s Day I guess… it was february I know!
4. What are your three secrets to happiness? First: enjoy the little things!!! this one is key. Second: Accept yourself the way you are. And LOVE what you are. Third and last: find time for you and moments to share with your loved ones. Don’t go too fast you know.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans? Palettes. They’re much easier to deal with cause all the colors you need are in front of you, you don’t have to go through all your drawers to find that one color that goes with this other one.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish? My two front teeth are slightly broken (it happened when I was 7, I was running too fast). It means I don’t have perfect-looking teeth, but they have a charm apparently, and men seem to like this little something it gives to my smile.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life? YES! The Even Better Clinical serum by Clinique has made a true difference. It repairs my skin super fast so I don’t freak out whenever a zit comes along (although it’s annoying).
8. Do you like your hair better long or short? In-between.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming? The MAC Temperature Rising collection… OMG!!!!
10. Write yourself a Post-It note: Don’t forget. Bikini wax. 11am.
Karen says
Hi Laura,
You’re so funny! What does your new watch look like?
Laura says
It’s a Swatch watch. Here’s the link so you can check it out: http://store.swatch.com/watches/originals/new-gent/suoz148-sunray-glam.html
I’m in love with it!
Karen says
Oh, very sleek, cool and summery! I bet it goes with a lot of outfits, too.
Ruchita says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
If I skip washing my hair, I can sleep for 10 more minutes. Thank goodness for dry shampoo!
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
Just my Entertainment Weekly magazines. I’d like to go to the library soon and check out some real books.
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
Never tried false lashes, but I love how they look
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
1 – Think before you speak.
2 – Take some time for yourself. The constant “to do” list can wait for a minute.
3 – Chocolate. 🙂
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Palettes. I like having everything in one place and it makes it easier for travel.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
I tend to be rather quiet and introverted, especially in large groups. But I don’t think it’s a bad thing to sit back and observe sometimes.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
The Clinique Dark Spot Corrector has actually worked for me. With darker skin, the slightest blemish leaves a mark.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
I’ve had really short hair and long hair. I really like both. Currently, I’m digging longer (shoulder length) hair b/c I can get away with washing every other day and pulling it back when I’m too lazy to style it.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
Nothing right now.
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
Remember to schedule Friday off from work!
Happy Monday!
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Yes, thank goodness for dry shampoo. Which one are you using these days? I’m all about Rene Furterer’s (an oldie but goody).
Ruchita says
I’ve been using Dove dry shampoo. It doesn’t leave my dark hair ashy or white and it does a great job making my hair feel less greasy. I’ll have to check out Rene Furterer. I’ve been tryng to be disciplined and not buy any new hair products until I use one up. I’m running out of storage space! 🙂
Karen says
Oh, I hate that ashy cast! I haven’t tried Dove but will remember to put it on my Target list.
The Rene Furterer one is pricey, but I always go back to it because it adds a ton of volume to my roots and the scent is pleasant.
How was your weekend? Did you bake anything interesting?
Ruchita says
My weekend was pretty relaxing. No baking this time, but next weekend I want to bake a cake for my brother-in-law’s birthday.
We went to see the new Scary Movie and it was awful. The older ones aren’t exactly high quality, but they at least make me laugh with their stupid humor. 🙂 The new one was just plain stupid.
Karen says
Oh, nice! Cake baking is my favorite kind of project. Are you making it from scratch?
I’ll be sure to stay away from the new Scary Movie, LOL! When I went to watch Oblivion on Friday night I saw a whole host of cheesy previews. Did you know there’s a Fast and Furious 6? Because the world clearly needs another one, hahaha!
Stephanie/Yukaeshi says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
Pretty much “Urgghh…” 😛 I wanted to sleep in but I have things to do and places to be!
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
A History Of The World In 100 Objects by Neil McGregor. Interesting stuff 🙂
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
December 2012, during my first pre-wedding photoshoot. My make-up artist put them on for me- I still can’t manage them on my own and learning has been quite tough!
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
a) Count your blessings. It helps especially when you feel like things are against you.
b) Spend some time by yourself. Having some “me” time once in a while does work wonders.
c) Do something nice/good. Anything- even donating a cent to some cause, buying someone something, etc.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
This IS a tough question. Likewise I like palettes for travelling (Easier to pack/coordinate) but otherwise I’m fine with both.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
I’m a passionate person and overly so, sometimes to the point where I cause unnecessary stress to myself. But that’s not an entirely bad thing because it keeps me focused on tasks and is a driving force for me.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
I wouldn’t really say so at the moment- I’m very happy with my skincare routine as a whole!
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
Long please. I can pass off as an adolescent boy from the back with short hair.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
Mmm. Probably more Maison Francis Kurkdjian perfumes (Aqua Universalis, for one. I already own Lumiere Noir Pour Femme), stationery from The Journal Shop, and oh, beauty-wise it will be the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Summer 2013 collection Batik Sun eyeshadow palette, and the Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Shimmer Palette in 09 Medusa.
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
“No, it looked a little better on me.”
Karen says
Hi Stephanie,
Happy Monday! I loved your list with the three secrets to happiness.
BTW…the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Summer palette is ah-may-zing. one of my faves for summer, for sure. I hope you get it!
Chelsea says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning? It was something like “SHUT UP JIJI!”
2. Have you been reading anything lately? I just read the 12th Sookie Stackhouse book when I was stuck at the Denver Airport. Nothing overly exciting, but I’m invested in the series, I have to finish it! Also catching up on my fashion magazines. I need to reread Harry Potter!
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes? I’ve never actually worn them! I have a pair I’ve been meaning to try, but my fiance finds false eyelashes really creepy, so I need to do it when he’s not around :p
4. What are your three secrets to happiness? Taking me-time, getting enough sleep, and enjoying the little things, like bunny kisses, finding four leaf clovers, and afternoon naps with the cat.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans? Single pans, although I own more palettes! I always want to mix and match.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish? I don’t cherish any of them, to be honest. I’m trying to be more positive about my freckles.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life? CeraVe SPF 50 sunscreen! I have such a hard time finding sunscreens that don’t break me out or give me rashes, and when they meet that qualification, they’re usually greasy or don’t wear well under makeup, or are shiny, or there are problems with the formula separating. This is the only sunscreen I’ve ever been happy with, which is a necessity with my fair skin!
8. Do you like your hair better long or short? I haven’t had short hair since I was 10! I like long hair on me, I have no desire to have short hair…
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming? I’m super broke, so EVERYTHING.
10. Write yourself a Post-It note: Get off the beauty blogs and do your homework!!
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
LOL to your answer to the first question. What did Jiji want?! DIVAS.
Chelsea says
He wakes me up like that EVERY morning! But the thing is, Zack said while I was out of town, he didn’t do that at all, and just slept in wit hhim! I think he knows that I usually go grab a snack in the early morning, and that he thinks he gets one too.
Karen says
He has you well trained, hahaha! I know the feeling all too well. Sigh.
Are you almost done with your homework?
Chelsea says
It’s going… maybe 1/3 done? It’s not hard, I’m just procrastinating. But it’s not due until Wednesday evening, so I have time! I just have a phone interview for an internship tomorrow and another exam (that I’m not worried about at all) and I’m going out to lunch with my boss and my coworkers on Wednesday, so I know I’m not going to want to do it then! I’m stuck at the office now anyway, might as well get something accomplished…
Karen says
That’s great that you’re getting it all done early though! At least you won’t be stressing on Wednesday. Good luck with the phone interview; what kind of internship are you looking into?
Chelsea says
It’s for a market research company!
Jaye Brown says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning? Would it look like I’m running [from the pressure at work] if I worked from home today? Decided it would, so I’m here.
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
Just finished The Mystery of Mercy Close by Marian Keyes, starting The Love Song of Johnny Valentine by Teddy Wayne this evening.
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
One year ago this coming Saturday, on my wedding day.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
Always do your very best, treat others the way you want to be treated, and long baths with a good book.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Palettes! There’s nothing better than seeing great colors next to each other.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
My scars from my surgeries. I went through a rough time, and I came out the other side. They remind me of how tough I am and that I can get through anything.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
I don’t know that it changed my life, but I sure to love my Clarisonic.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
Long. I love the idea of short hair, but when I do it, it never looks as good on me as it looked in my head.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
NARS Barrow Street liner (And a Chloé Paratay bag in teal, but I’m always lemming that because no, I’m not shelling out that much for a purse.)
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
Send nephew a birthday present!
Karen says
Hi Jaye,
Thanks for filling out the poll this morning.
Congrats on your upcoming wedding anniversary. Will you be doing anything special to celebrate?
Jaye Brown says
We’re doing the full omakase menu at our favorite restaurant and at some point this year, we’re going to make our first joint art purchase. The first anniversary is paper, so we’ll shell out some paper for dinner and buy some paper when we purchase our first art piece!
I’m always interested in hearing anniversary ideas from others. This is not really my strong area, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Danielle says
The Great Gatsby is fantastic! I’m addicted to reading classics. Great Expectations and Decline & Fall are my favorites. I’m currently reading Walden and it’s going a bit slow haha.
Karen says
Hi Danielle,
I remember liking the book when I read it in high school, but now I have a new appreciation for the prose. I love his imagery.
Hmm, I might have to take another crack at Great Expectations. Thanks for reminding me.

9. Is there something you’re currently lemming? The Kiko summer collection 🙂 not pricey and very good as always
10. Write yourself a Post-It note: don’t spend money, it’s nonsense !
Karen says
Hi Dominique,
Oh, I wish I could visit Europe so I could play with the new Kiko summer collection! What items do you have your eye on?
Say hi to your cat for me. 🙂
Susan Guerra says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
I hope my husband doesn’t make us run late again!
He didn’t, but then a car accident happened right in front of us and that made us late!
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
I’ve been reading tragedies from Shakespeare for a class.
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
Never! My eyelashes are pretty long and curl naturally, so don’t need’em!
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
I have none, but I do notice when I walk outside and the sun is shining I just forget about all my problems!
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Hmmm depends, right now I have the Nars And God Created the Woman palette and I love it, but I love the ease of a single pan.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
I’m emotional too! Although most of the time the emotion I unleash most is anger, I cry alot when I get into confrontation!
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
Not in a good way… until recently. I’ve been using BioOil since early February and it has really helped the texture of my skin, especially after having acne for so long! A lot of people at my job have noticed! I love it!!
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
I love it short because I look spunky, but long I get to put it into a IDC bun for a laid back look.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
UGG boots! I got a Joie sweater on clearance and the boots would go perfectly!
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
Don’t stress so much!
Karen says
Hi Susan,
Thanks for filling out the poll!
Do you have a favorite Shakespeare piece? Mine is A Midsummer Night’s Dream. And yay for finding a skincare product that helps with texture. I’ve heard great things about BioOil.
Stephanie Smith says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning? “How can it be six o’clock already?”
2. Have you been reading anything lately? Thrillers/mysteries, Lee Child, James Patterson, Joe Hill, Brad Meltzer, and Stephen J. Cannell.
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes? I’ve never worn them.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness? Private time alone, talking the good things and the bad things out, lots of kisses and cuddles!
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans? I only use palettes, they’re a space saver and there are lots of options!
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish? My 12 year old sense of humor, it gets me out of a lot of dark places, it perks the kids up, and it makes me think I’m much more hilarious than I am!
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life? Boscia night cream. When I use it diligently, my skin is brighter and those fine lines are slightly less fine!
8. Do you like your hair better long or short? Both actually. I’ll grow it long, then cut it short, then take three years to grow it long, then cut it short. Over and over and over. I like ponytails, I don’t wear my hair down. But it’s also curly, so it takes a lot of work when it’s short.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming? The entire new China Glaze nail polish collection, “Blooming Brights.” I won’t even go into Sally’s right now, because I’m afraid I’d buy every bottle and the husband might not be too happy with that! ha ha ha
10. Write yourself a Post-It note: “Stef, do the dishes, put the laundry away, and make the bed!” (This is my daily message!) I have pretty good self esteem, I don’t need a pick me up, I need reminders to get the house in order!
Karen says
Hi Stephanie,
Happy Monday! It’s nice to hear from you.
What are your favorite eye palettes?
Alice Ann says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning? Don’t think about work.
2. Have you been reading anything lately? I usually read a few books at once, depending on my mood. So, for an easy read it’s Still Life by Louise Penny, the first of the Inspector Gamache mystery series. Also, a book of collected poems by Wislawa Szymborska, and The Book of My Lives by Alexandar Hemon.
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes? It’s been years.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness? Have time to myself, stay in the present and not obsess about the future/what ifs, spend time outside (even if it’s just the longer walk to the farther Bart station).
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans? I don’t really have a preference, but I have more palettes.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish? Being introverted. I used to really be hard on myself for not being hugely social, but now I realize that getting to know people one-on-one, and often slowly, gives me an opportunity to make really fulfilling connections.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life? Dr.Hauschka’s Rose Day Cream has been great for soothing my sensitive skin.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short? This is the first time in my life I’ve had long hair and I’m really enjoying it.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming? Ahhh, yes. Dior nail polishes in the Bahia duo and Diablotine.
10. Write yourself a Post-It note: “Write that paper!”
Karen says
Hi Alice Ann,
Good luck on your paper. What’s it about?
Alice Ann says
Thanks! It’s a “model diet” project for a nutrition class, analyzing my own diet and making specific changes to meet goals/address issues. It’s a great class and an interesting project, I’ve just been distracted and the beautiful sunny weather today is not helping.
Karen says
Oh, I kind of want to do that assignment for fun! 🙂
I’m with you in being totally distracted by the sunny weather. If it wasn’t for my allergies, I’d be tempted to play outside all day long.
How was your weekend, by the way? Did you do anything fun?
Melody says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
Last time to watch You tube. I am leaving North America, my home country bans YouTube. So this morning is last time that I can watch it. Oh, I will miss them a lot.
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
Not at all, I watch dramas and videos recently.
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
Last summer I bought first pair to add to my make up routine, but it is difficult to apply and uncomfortable for my eyes. That is my fist and last time I wore false lashes.

1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning? “what time is it?”
2. Have you been reading anything lately? between books at the moment, but tempted to re-read Gatsby, one of the 2 books I actually read(not just faked!) in high school. the other one was Brave New World by ALdous Huxley- highly recommend!
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes? Never gone there. afraid of glue near my eyes
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
My favorite auntie used a prayer from St. Theresa that is my new mantra. Basically it is all about acceptance, and trusting that we are exactly where we need to be in this very moment. It has helped me a lot. My other secret is nail polish. Painting my nails as a night-time calming ritual has helped keep me sane in stressful times. and anchoring myself by my family. Focusing on and sharing laughter with my kids has helped my perspective immeasurably! Really, if my kids are ok, all other problems seem inconsequential.!
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Palettes! I fall in love with them way too easily.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
A scar on my hand that reminds me that I will do anything to protect my kids.

10. Write yourself a Post-It note: The kids are on the right track now, so it’s ok to let them go.
Karen says
Hi Lorraine,
You should re-read Gatsby! I remember liking it the first time around, but with this read, I’ve really been appreciating the prose. F. Scott Fitzgerald takes something like frogs croaking at night and turns it into art!
I kind of love that most of your lemmings list is nail polish. What are you wearing right now? I have the new YSL Green on my fingers and toes, but I’m about to swap it out for one of the new Dior Bird of Paradise Duos.
Lorraine says
My daughter asked what Great Gatsby is about and I started to give her a literature class, delving into the themes and characters and what-not! guess that is a sign I should re-read it. It really stuck with me. I love how he made me feel the heat of the place- it made me want to get some ice and a mint julep!
You know me, I am always lemming some new nail polishes! Just switched colors from Essie Dramatic Drachmas to Estee Lauder Blue Blood. Been craving dark neutrals and bright orange-y reds this spring. no pastels for me. So I guess you are wearing the Dior on your toes with the Wedges? Don’t keep us in suspense. that teal pedi is slammin’!!!
Karen says
Hi Lorraine,
Thank you! It’s YSL’s new Vert D’Orient:

4. What are your three secrets to happiness? Be grateful, be content, look for the positives in bad situations.

7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life? Purpose face wash continues to be The Jam! Takes off all traces of makeup without stripping my skin or leaving an oily residue behind. It’s the perfect cleanser for me and it’s a drugstore bargain!
8. Do you like your hair better long or short? Definitely long. I used to have hair down to my bum, but cut it short for a few years and it’s so much more work! I love my hair long b/c getting ready is as easy as 6 bobby pins and a quick twisty bun.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming? The Lorac GLOgetter palette – amazing color payoff, 10 shadows (including a minty shadow amongst the bunch), and only $20 bucks? Yes, please.

2. Have you been reading anything lately? Yup — a couple of things:

4. What are your three secrets to happiness?

– Find healing wherever possible.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans? Palette for the most part. I seem to grab palettes a lot more than singles.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish? Hmm, this is a good question! I’d say my logical side. A lot of people can’t relate and I have a hard time relating to people, but at the same time, my logic protects me a bit from the irrational. It is a flaw, but I appreciate it none the less.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life? Not sure. I guess the Clarisonic is pretty amazing.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short? Long, just because I can put it up and not have to worry about it. That being said, I’m very tempted to lob it off.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming? Essie’s Neon collection.
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
You will get through this.

allows.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
Stick to your own healthy boundaries.
Find ways to be thankful.
Shake off all that is discouraging.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Single pans, they are easier to collect and make my own palette.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
My fingers. They are short but capable of accomplishing many
tasks.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
Yes, eye primer. Prevents eye shadow from disappearing my super
super oily lids.

Long. I’ve finally learned a few tricks to take care of it.

Yes, a spa vacation.

Natasha says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?

1. Cherish the ones you love, esp. your cats
2. Don’t sweat the small stuff
3. Life is too short to not enjoy pizza.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Palettes
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
Being a fuzzbrain about math — I don’t exactly cherish it, but have accepted it as fact, especially after a few hours of drawing — so I now tell clients to do the math for me… instead of me making a mistake and either over or undercharging…
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
Glycolic acid. I currently like a cream I get from Kaiser called Aqua-Glycolic — they make kick-butt toner, too.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
Medium-length is best for me — short enough for curls, long enough to put up in a bun.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
to try Jamberry nails.
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
Don’t schedule ANYTHING for thursday — it’s my first day off in weeks and I want to keep it that way…
Danielle says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
The gym. How I love and hate thee.
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
Other than beauty blogs, study material for an exam. I thought when college was over my studying would end. Sadly, that is not the case!
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
Hmm, a few weeks ago. I like them, but it’s just time consuming to apply, remove, care for.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
1- Be honest, with yourself and others.
2- Smile as often as I can
3- Share 1 and 2 with everyone I know.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Tough call. I like them both for different reasons. I find that smaller palettes (like Dior Quints) I use more often than larger ones. I prefer larger ones for travel though, because they usually contain enough shades for a wide variety of looks and events.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
This is weird, but the middle finger on my left hand is crooked. It has been forever but everyone who has ever noticed it has found it endearing. I find it odd, but it actually makes me smile a little.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
YES. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. I have oily/combo skin and it is incredibly difficult to find something that doesn’t break me out or turn my face into a giant grease ball. I have purchased this over and over again and refuse to be without it.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
Medium to long. I like to wear my hair up and medium and longer lengths are more conducive to that style. I also think it just looks incredibly feminine.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
Just one? 😉 I need a new bright bikini for summer, along with some brighter work out gear. Beauty wise, the new Guerlain bronzer that’s releasing in May. WANT.
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
You are the only one who can stand in your way.
Karen says
GREAT Post-it note, Danielle. I love it!

“This is the first time in over a week that I don’t have to get up at a specific time!”
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
I just re-read The Elegance of the Hedgehog. It’s a beautiful, sad, yet hopeful story and the writing is so poetic.
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
Never. I don’t have the patience to try them.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
Always look for the blessings in every situation, accept people for who they are, and don’t get caught up in what other people think of you.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
I love palettes because they save me time. No fishing around for individual items that go together.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
Like Karen, I’m very emotional and feel things very deeply, but it does make my relationships in life much more meaningful.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
Not so much specific products, but specific ingredients that I have in my daily routine: vitamin C in the morning to brighten, retinol at night to smooth and clear the skin, and hyaluronic acid day and night to keep the moisture in without adding anything heavy or greasy.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
I get very uncomfortable when it’s too short and has layers sticking out all over that need to be controlled. I like my hair medium length with long layers on the side.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
I just got my first YSL glossy lip stain the other day and now I want more!
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:

To avoid poisonous people. People who love to start drama and put people around them down to make themselves feel better
Surround yourself with positivity and make sure you give it back
Smile, laugh, and love! 🙂
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single palettes? definitely palettes
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
So embarrassing but… my feet tend to sweat easily no matter the weather or shoes so they tend to start to smell a little sometimes. It gives me an excuse to dip my feet in warm tea and relax and plus my husband swears he thinks its cute
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
Eucerin redness corrector. No matter how much makeup I would put on, at one point in my life, my face would still peek through as bright pink but the rest of my body is warm toned and yellow, so if you can imagine, I looked really strange. Sometimes I didnt even wanna leave the house. Then I bought the Eucerin redness corrector and put some on at nighttime and it did miracles for my face! Now I can walk out of the sometimes with no makeup on and be semicomfortable. Lol
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
I have a rather large round face, so the longer my hair is, the more it camouflages that. Plus I just feel sexier and more confident with longer hair.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
I reallllly want eyeshadow palettes! Notably, the lorac pro palette and the urban decay smoked palette

i couldn’t live without my mac eyeshadow palettes – i have two full ones
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
i care too much about people – i can never give up on someone

4. What are your three secrets to happiness?

Okay, fine. Two more. Visiting PetSmart and petting every dog I come across that is nice (I ask first. Bonus points if you come on puppy training day.) Walking amongst nature.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Palettes for the most part. I like to be creative.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
My scars. Okay, I have multitudes of scars all over my body, but the two on my face, while not entirely visible on camera, make me easy to identify. I got them in very bad ways, but I love them just the same.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
Um, YEA. Dermalogica has really changed how my face feels. It’s nowhere near as red nor does it break out in rashes as much! I used to break out in rashes on my face ALL OF THE TIME. Seriously. I don’t get them near as much anymore!
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
Long.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?

I have had such a long day and I have been looking forward to this the whole time!
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
I don’t remember one thing, it was more like 100. I started a new job today and was super nervous.
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
I wish I had the time to!
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
For a dance competition in grade 12 I think.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
I think I am still trying to figure these out. I guess one is to love what you have. And to appreciate the little things in life. Not sure about number 3.
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
Palettes for sure! Single ones are hard to keep track of in my room!
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
I really like my height even though its exceptionally short.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
Not yet, still hoping for my holy grail face products.

Surprisingly nothing! I’m sure that will change quickly though!
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
You can do it.
Thanks Karen, this was a great pick me up after my day!
Katherine G says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?
~That I really, really didn’t want to get up. Work has been highly stressful lately with training someone who has shown to have a very bad and insolent attitude. The only thing keeping me going is that I’m not a quitter and I’m there for the patients.
2. Have you been reading anything lately?
~Different workout books, some magazines when I get the chance.
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes?
~Actually, never.
4. What are your three secrets to happiness?
~Know when to say when on things that aren’t making you happy. Certain things are just not worth the stress.
~Find something little to smile about every day.
~Have ways to destress after a hard day that are productive (picking up bad habits like smoking and drinking do not count! And they are super bad for your health!).
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans?
~Depends, sometimes I like a palette to create fun looks, other times I like to mix and match singles or blend one single for a smokey or neutral eye.
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish?
~That I want everyone to be happy. It’s not a bad thing and it means that I care, but it also means that I stress myself out trying to keep myself and everyone happy.
7. Has a skincare product ever changed your life?
~Not totally changed my life (takes a lot to do that) but made it better – for example I could live without 10% Benzoyl Peroxide for zits, but I use it every day and would miss it dearly.
8. Do you like your hair better long or short?
~Long but trimmed and kept manageable. I’ve had it short, and with shorter layers, and it’s hard to put up and I do have to style it. Long hair that is kept manageable with trims and long layers has been what has worked for me for a few years now. Short for me is about chin to collarbone length, and I have very thick hair so it had to be flatironed every day to manage it.
9. Is there something you’re currently lemming?
~I really want the full size UD pencils in LSD and Junkie. Love those colors and love the names. I also want the Laura Mercier cream shadow stick in Rose Gold. Rose Gold is one of my fave neutrals.
10. Write yourself a Post-It note:
~Get through tomorrow and be objective! You have 3 days off afterward to enjoy at least the mornings with the hubby and test your new pistol at the range. Think of that to get through tomorrow and know that you are awesome no matter what anyone says or does.
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
1. What’s the first thought that crossed your mind this morning? Blaaaarg–what time is it?!!
2. Have you been reading anything lately? re-reading The Hobbit and just got Warm Bodies yesterday so I’m reading both (I sometimes do that when I’m so excited about 2 books so much that I can’t choose which to read first :P)
3. When was the last time you wore false lashes? a few weeks ago for a fun night out!
4. What are your three secrets to happiness? I’m much happier now that I don’t care so much about what other people think of me, I cherish my friends & family more, and I give into little indulges
5. Do you prefer eye shadow palettes or single pans? single pans. It’s rare that I absolutely LOVE a palette because I’m picky about shades so there’s usually only a few shades in the whole palette that I’ll actually wear. Plus my go-to look is a just a single wash of shadow all over the lid, anyway
6. What’s one of your imperfections that you cherish? That I’m totally and completely ruled by my heart. Sometimes it sucks when I let something like a breakup or a death completely dictate my life but I love fiercely and passionately and its something that I’m okay with.
