You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past four years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people (hopefully without getting hurt)?
OMG, YES! I was watching Wicked with my friend Cindy at a fancy theater some years back. Our seats were up in the nosebleed section, at the top of these really steep steps, and right at the start of intermission, Cindy and I decide to go grab a snack in the lobby, so we start heading down the stairs, and somehow — WHOOPS! — I miss a step and tumble all the way down…Of course, I was wearing a dress with a flowy skirt at the time, and um…apparently I gave the patrons a different kind of show, if you know what I mean.
- Do you do blue eye liner?
Absolutely. I have brown eyes with a faint ring of dark blue around the outer edges, and I like the way blue liner makes the ring look more intense. - Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats?
I can now! The striped pair of Dr. Scholl’s flats I saw at DSW last Friday.Only reason I didn’t get them was because I couldn’t get over the huge silver buckle… Reminded me of the Green Bay Packers logo (and I’m a 49ers fan).
- Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence?
I seem to have developed a serious affinity for pricey eye creams and potions, which is probably linked to the fact that I’ll be turning 38 (!) in two months.Anywho, lately I’ve been loving lightweight (but not light on pocketbooks; it’s $98!) Guerlain Super Aqua-Eye Serum, which moisturizes the heck out of my eye area. Plus, it absorbs quickly, doesn’t irritate my eyes and smells like roses.
- Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up?
Oh, yeah. Big time. I was wildly jealous of my younger brother because I felt like my parents favored him. He got away with everything! It led to many fights, but we eventually got over it…in our 30s, haha!
- I’m excited about _____.
The Host! It’s the new Stephenie Meyer movie coming out this Friday, and I’m thinking about going to the midnight showing.
- Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice.
The Age of Miracles, by Karen Thompson Walker. The writing will take your breath away (at least it did mine). - Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies?
If they move me in some way, then yes, I keep them in my wallet for months. Sometimes years. - How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects?
Um, never? But I love the idea. I want to be one of those ladies in the Lowe’s commercials happily painting a room or refinishing a dresser. It seems very satisfying… I just don’t ever seem to have enough time. - Some of the best advice I ever received was to…
…be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn. Then, always be a unicorn. 🙂

Chelsea says
Arch support isn’t great, but that’s not a problem I usually have. There’s probably room for an insole. I put a heel thing in the back.
Karen says
Darn. I’ll probably have to pass then. The corals ones are SO CUTE! I’ll have to vicariously live through you, I guess. 🙂

2. Do you do blue eye liner? Nope.

5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up?Yes. My fabulous sister is only a year an a half younger than me. We also played sports and were equally matched. Whenever we got in a fight it lasted about 5 minutes. She’s awesome.
6. I’m excited about going to see my sister get her PHD in June. We’re remodeling our kitchen soon and it’s going to be hectic and dirty but fun.
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. One of the only books that has been made into movies that I’d say, “see the movie and then read the book.” Those Brits have their own version of English and it’s tough to follow, but it’s a great story.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? No joke, I got one recently that said something like, “you have terrible instincts and need to rethink you decisions.” WHAT?! I think I still have it somewhere…
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? All the time. It’s so much fun to look at something and know you were the one to make it awesome.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to…stop being afraid of failure.
Karen says
Hi L.A. Lady,
Thank you for the shoe rec. How’s the arch support on those Cole Haan flats?
The L.A. Lady says
They’re great! Almost as great as some kind of orthopedic shoe without looking like one at all. I might be biased since I do a lot of ballet and am used to my feet being uncomfortable… but one of the reviews said she wore them on a big trip to Europe and they were great walking over all those cobblestone streets.
Karen says
Okay, now you’ve got my interest. Must track these down! Thank you again. 🙂
Natasha says
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people?

2. Do you do blue eye liner?
Not really. I like Marine by Urban Decay, but only on the top.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats?
Anything by Keen. I’m also wearing a pair of Waves by Clarks… very comfy. Not the most stylish, but comfort is King for me.
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence?
A shellac manicure! It’s actually lasted a whole week and still looking pretty! I may get used to this…

If I get a good one, I’ll stuff it in my wallet and keep it for years…
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects?
Do craft projects count? Then, all the time.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to…
not take things personally. Sometimes people are snots because they are having a bad day, not anything you did…
Karen says
Hi Natasha,
How cool that you’re headed to the desert to see the flowers. Are you a botanist?
Laura says
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people? Oh yea, once in high school, I was wearing new flats and they were still all smooth underneath. So I slipped in the middle of the schoolyard. Some kids laughed but it wasn’t a total humiliation.
2. Do you do blue eye liner? Sometimes yes, especially in the summer, it brings out my tan.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats? Zara’s! I always find very comfy flats at Zara.

6. I’m excited about going back in the sun soon and getting my tan back!!!!!
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice. Tough one… I wanna say any book by Terry Pratchett on his Discworld series. Especially those with Death. They’re hilarious. Also I think there was this one story about a gispy and a wolf I used to read when I was growing up, or the one with the source whose water made you immortal… Can’t remember titles or anything though.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? No, those aren’t very common here.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? Never I guess.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to always do my best. And actually now the best advice I receive are from myself. I’m quite wise lol.

Le List
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people?
It’s been a while, but I’ve slipped on ice while walking to class in college.
2. Do you do blue eye liner?
Now that you mention it, I think I would like to try something like navy blue.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats?
I have a couple of pairs from the brand Me Too and they are extremely comfortable. I got a pink pair last year. I would love to wear them, but it just snowed again yesterday. 🙁
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence?
Makeup Forever HD foundation. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s one of the few foundations I’ve found to match my skin color.
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up?
Not really. My brother is 9 years younger than me, so we were never in the same “circles” so to speak. Although he did used to bug me whenever I had friends over. I hated it back then, but now I sorta miss it.
6. I’m excited about _____.
Having Friday off work!
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice.
There’s a book called A Painted House by John Grisham. It’s about the summer of a 7-year old boy’s life in 1950s rural Arkansas. I thought it was an interesting look at a completely different place in time and lifestyle I’ll never experience.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies?
Yes. I have one in my wallet right now.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects?
Never. Unless baking counts for DIY. 🙂 Honestly, I’m lazy and it’s just not something I make time for.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to…
Stop and take time to pet the kitties. 🙂
Happy Monday!
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Lovely advice. I hope Mingy and the crew doesn’t get jealous when you come home with the scents of other kitties on your fingers. I know Tabs has a fit whenever that happens!
How was your weekend?
Ruchita says
They are curious about new smells, etc but don’t get too riled up. Usually what gets them the most is seeing a cat out in the yard. Mingy wanted to chase after some of the neighborhood strays on our walk on Saturday.
My weekend was pretty relaxing. I spent the majority of Sunday in my PJs having a Twilight movie marathon. 🙂 Hope yours was good!
Karen says
Is it still snowing out there? I can picture Mingy the snow cat bounding through the yard!
Ruchita says
It snowed a few inches overnight – just in time for morning rush hour – but the main roads were pretty clear.
If I get any new shots of Mingy in the snow I’ll send them your way! 🙂
Karen says
Yes, please! I will show them to Tabs. I’m convinced he and Mingy share some common cat ancestry, LOL!
Katherine G says
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people?
~I have before, fallen down the stairs on my butt, and in MMA training I fall all the time as a result of being thrown or swept (where you take down your partner by literally sweeping them off their feet).
2. Do you do blue eye liner?
~Not all the time but sometimes to make my eyes look more awake, and it enhances the green/gold tones. I love Rimmel’s in Deep Ocean, it stays on all day with a good primer. I also love UD’s brighter blue, I think it’s called Radium. Deep Ocean is that perfect Navy for doing something different but still staying conservative. Laura Mercier’s Black Navy is also a good color, since it shows up a little lighter on me I layer it over black liner.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats?
~Charlotte Russe makes good, cheaper ones, and I’ve had some of those pairs for years. Only issue with Charlotte Russe shoes is that they come in whole sizes – I won’t buy high heels but their flats fit me well and their boots fit. Body Central also makes great shoes that are cheap and hold up well.
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence?
~Nars Orgasm blush and nail polish (it’s such a great neutral – looks natural on fingers and toes but is a nice color to look at). Also loving the new Physician’s Formula bronzer with the sun on it – Physician’s Formula does very well with powders and bronzers. They give me a great glow and are quick to put on in the morning!
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up?
~Some, like everyone with siblings there was some jealousy if one sibling did better than the other or was winning at their chosen sport. But overall, me and my little bro have gotten along very well. There is still that slight edge of competitiveness at times but we are best friends.
6. I’m excited about _____.
~MMA training, and my wedding. Not a fan of wedding planning at all but I am excited to finally be getting married. Going to be very small thank goodness so not a ton to do. MMA training is addictive, I would train all the time if I could.
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice.
~Noble Cause, by Jessica James. Great historical fiction about the Civil War.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies?
~No, I usually read them, laugh or think that it’s spot on, and throw them out.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects?
~Often enough, I guess. I do DIY beauty all the time (I dye my hair myself, do beauty maintenance like pedicures myself), and I love doing house projects when I have the time.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to…
~Everything happens for a reason, and work hard. Things may not always go as planned but you are right where you are supposed to be in life.
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
Happy Monday! I’m very excited about your upcoming wedding. Do you have a dress yet? I want to see!
Katherine G says
Thank you! I am excited too, just not a fan of the whole planning thing because even with it very small and dinner-party like, there are still things that have to get done. I do have a dress, no pics yet because I am going to get it fitted in hopefully a week or 2. It’s strapless with a fine lace overlay, a very tiny train, and the bodice criss-crosses the lace, almost corset like. It’s simple but beautiful, and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. David’s Bridal has great dresses!
Megan B. says
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people? I once jumped out the door of a skating rink.

3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats? Unfortunately no, but if you find them, please pass them on!
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence? Too Faced Beauty Balm! I bought it the other day after a lot of deliberation and my face feels like satin today!
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up? Moreso when I was a teenager than a child.
6. I’m excited about _____. Having Friday off.
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice. “The Killer Angels” by Michael Shaara
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? The really good ones.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? Not many, except for knitting.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to… Fake it ’til you make it.
Christina says
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people? Alllllll the time! It happens so often that it’s hard to keep track XD My most recent slippage was a few weeks back when it was raining and I nearly slipped and fell in mud but was able to catch myself and ended up kneeling in the mud 😛
2. Do you do blue eye liner? Absolutely! I love blue and teal eyeliner 🙂 I think it brings a nice emphasis to my dark brown eyes.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats? Hmmm not at the moment! But I do want to check out those Dr. Scholl’s flats 🙂 They seem like a lovely addition to a spring outfit.
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence? I’ve recently indulged in the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream. With the weather changing and all, I’ve been needing a lighter moisturizer for the day. I love how it just sinks in and (hopefully) helping with keeping aging at bay from all my lack of sleep/stress/studying/etc.
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up? Nope, only because I’m an only child! While it does seem nice, it was a bummer not really having a sibling figure in my life until I was in high school.
6. I’m excited about _____. SPRING BREAK (which I guess started last Friday when my last class was over) Granted, my family and I don’t really travel or anything but still! It’s nice taking a breather and I plan to relax and catch up on things as best as I can.
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice. I really enjoyed “Saving Fish From Drowning” by Amy Tan. It was pretty different from the style of writing she’s done in her previous books so I considered it a breath of fresh air.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? I used to do it a lot but I’ve been trying to clear clutter from my work area. But, if I do find one with a really good, hopeful message, I might tack it onto my message board.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? Hmmmm I guess I do more arts and crafts than actual DIY projects. But, if crocheting counts, then I guess I do a lot of it! I’ve been searching for a lovely crocheted blanket pattern to work on :3
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to… be in control of my own happiness.
Karen says
I love that piece of advice, Christina! I need to remember that more.
Have a good week!
Rosie says
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people? Fortunately, no. All my slips and trips have not been witnessed by others. But that just means I have to pick myself up!

4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence? I discovered Clarins Beauty flash balm deluxe sample. Love it! I use it before my Dr Jarts BB cream.
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up? I am the youngest of 9. Yes, 9. However, I am the youngest, the baby. I could basically get away with anything because it had already been done! lol
6. I’m excited about spring break. Yes I am 46 but my daughter’s been home from college. 🙂 and next week is my son’s break 🙂
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice. Harry Potter 4, 5, and 7. love and tears…
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? Sometimes. My favorite is “What’s hidden in an empty box?” Another family quirk is to add “in bed” after reading them out loud. It is a conversation starter, that’s for sure!
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? not for me. I have no patience. I just want it done.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to stop and smell the coffee. Breathe. Relax. Chill. Don’t worry about a thing, ’cause every little thing is gonna be alright…
Karen says
LOL, you’re welcome, Rosie! If you find any cute shoes at DSW please let me know. 🙂
Emily says

Thanks Karen!
Leah says
I agree. Plain Truth was fantastic.
Karen says
Thanks for answering the poll, Emily! You have a great week, okay?
Kim says
Happy Monday! Whoever gave you that unicorn advice was NOT a Harry Potter fan. Voldemort will seriously be trying to drink your blood! 🙂
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people? OMG, yes. I was out at a very crowded bar with friends (many years ago) and turned on the stairs after talking to a cute boy, took the step with a bit of a hop and totally wiped out. In my defense, it was dark and really wet/slush (winter time). Mortifying. The embarrassment was the only thing that made me bounce up and keep walking because it hurt like crazy!
2. Do you do blue eye liner? No, I have green eyes but I’m more of a brown liner gal, as you know.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats? Yes! Nike Motos. 🙂
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence? I’m going to stick with my Clarisonic. They’re a little pricey, especially with the brush head replacements, but I think they’re worth it.
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up? Yes, my sister is 3 years younger and I also felt like my mother liked her better. Mostly because she did. HAHA!
6. I’m excited about _____. Having Good Friday off!
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice. There have been many but since I’ve probably read Pride & Prejudice more than any of the others, I’ll choose that one.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? Yes, like you, if they strike a chord. 🙂
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? More often than I’d like.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to… be loyal.

Kim says
I’d forgotten that you’ve yet to read Harry! I think the movies are OK but the books are so much better (as usual). 🙂 I think I’ll dig them back out and start reading them with the boys again. We’ve done the series before but it might be fun to do it again.
Stephanie Smith says
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people? I fell on a treadmill once at the gym, in front of a few people. Still can’t figure out how it happened, but I wasn’t hurt and it was hilarious! If you can’t laugh at yourself…
2. Do you do blue eye liner? Yes! I have a couple of blue Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners, a bright turquoise, a bright blue, and a navy, and I love them!
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats? I don’t wear flats, I felt that they weren’t flattering with my short legs and healthy rear end! LOL! I have a pair of TOMS that are fun to wear, even though they are a bit too hipster-ish for me. LOL!
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence? I bought a Clarisonic Mia, it washes my face really well. I use it with my Boscia face wash and it’s wonderful! No breakouts, no blackheads, my skin glows!
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up? I have a twin brother, I’ve always had sibling rivalry! LOL! I felt my parents favored our younger sister, I grew out of that. I also felt our grandparents favored our brother, they still do, but it’s flattering that they don’t think that I am as helpless as they think he is. Kinda sad too.
6. I’m excited about _____. Summer! Two and a half months and the kids are out of school. I am ready for long days, warm nights, hanging out, fun stuff! And my BFF is having a baby in two weeks and I’m so excited about that I can hardly sit still!
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice. I’ve never read a book twice. Ever. I have no answer for this.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? If they are sentimental to me, I’ll keep them forever.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? I do a lot of crafty things, knitting, embroidery floss bracelets, that kind of thing. We painted the walls in our house, but that’s about it. Oh, I painted a bookcase for the kids a couple of years ago. That’s it.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to… My Mom told my sister and I that we weren’t raised to be pretty, that smart and nice was more important. That’s true. I’m raising my kids the same way, smart and nice is more important than pretty!
Karen says
Great advice, Steph!
You have a good week, okay?

2. Do you do blue eye liner? Nope, just blue shadow
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats? I wish I could. I have one from Target and one from LOFT that I’m trying to *make* comfortable. I really think someday I need to buy the ones at JCrew that are STILL made in Italy. I’m done with shoes made in China. 🙁
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence? Pedicure. I get one per month because pretty toes in yoga class are a must.

8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? Yes, we keep them in a pottery bowl in our home office.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? Karen, this is crazy but we are redoing our kitchen on our own in a few weeks (!!!!) It’s gonna be like a bad HGTV show!!!
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to… listen to my Mom. 🙂 (she’s a cancer survivor and I look at her in a whole new light now…when I was a teen we did not get along. I moved out at 18 and that made us closer). I now live 100 miles from my parents and we get along really well (I’m 36 now, but listening to advice from your parents can really help as you muddle through adulthood too). 🙂
Karen says
Hi Leah,

That’s cool that you have a twin. Are you guys identical?
Julia Alkaseltzer says
We’re fraternal! We were born 3 minutes apart. 🙂 When we were younger we looked a lot alike but never completely identical. But to this day, some people still confuse us with each other, hehe!
Karen says
That’s cool. I bet it must’ve been nice always having a buddy with you that was the same age. My brother and I are six years apart, so we didn’t exactly run in the same circles.

1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people?
I once fell down two flights of stairs at a restaurant/bar because they were black linoleum and I couldn’t see they were wet. The doorman said “Oh don’t worry no one saw” as though I was more worried about being embarrassed than about having just broken my butt. :/
2. Do you do blue eye liner?
I don’t really wear eyeliner, but on the rare occasion I do, it’s always black.

Two fave finds: Laura Mercier cake eyeliner (tricky, I know, but a cinch after you practice enough and the results are worth it) and b) Anastasia brow pen. Soooo easy (makes up for all that time spent on the eyeliner, haha!). Matches my brows perfectly. I tried the Aqua Brow stuff, too, and have tried several gels etc, and this stuff is a dream.
Karen, I have to tell you, I am pretty new at makeup and stumbled across your blog a few months ago – it totally prepared me to comparison shop, feel like I know the products out there, and make the most of my makeup splurge! Not only that, but it’s ridiculously entertaining. My hubs hears me giggling in bed and night, looks over and says, “That blog again?”

OMG yes! Story of my life back in high school. I have the scars to show for it on my knees.

Rose says
Late to the party, but here you go!
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people? Thank goodness, no. But of course, I say this now and it may happen tomorrow!!!
2. Do you do blue eye liner? Hell yeah! I Actually sported the smokey blue liner and shadow Saturday night for an event we attended. I have brown eyes too and I think it really accentuates the eyes.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats? I just bought a pair of Cole-Haan open-toed flats with a tiny gold sole. So cute and comfy!
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence? Limited edition Chanel eye palettes and Cle de Peau makeup. But I put myself on a makeup diet, so I won’t be buying any new ones for a while.
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up? Yes. I have four sisters and unfortunately, my parents would inadvertently compare each other which made us very competitive. We’re older now and we have gotten over it.
6. I’m excited about _____. The sun shining.
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice. Like Water for Chocolate. Loved the movie too.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies? No, I usually give them to my Little Diva.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects? When needed. But fortunately, my Hubby was an architect’s son and prefers to “call an expert” after too many weekends helping his Dad “tweak” the house! ;b But, if you mean DIY crafting, I knit a lot of my own accessories and sweaters.
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to… “You have two ears and one mouth. Make use of them.”
Karen says
Hi Rose,
I’ve been meaning to try Cle de Peau for forever! I know you’re on a makeup diet, but can you recommend your faves?
Apparently everyone loves those Cole Haan flats…I need to get on that, ASAP.
Happy Tuesday!
Aida says
1) I can’t say that I have actually, but I did slip and fall on the steps out to the garage a couple of weeks ago (only two little steps and I managed to slip), with only my husband as a witness and rescuer :). That got me a not so pretty bruise on my booty (yeah, I bruise easily).
2) I love blue on my eyes, whether it’s in the form of eye shadows or liners! I love a nice deep dark navy smokey eye and sometimes I’ll use a blue liner on my waterline instead of black and I rather enjoy that :).
3) Hmmm… actually I can’t. I don’t wear flats. I’m a high heels kind of girl and the only times you’ll spot me in public in anything lower than 4-5″ heels is when I’m excising or hiking/camping, etc. I’m really comfortable in heels and wedges are my “flats” lol, though nothing under 4″… Yeah, I’m a freak and I don’t like my 5’4″ height :).
4) Well, in the past year or so I’ve been infatuated with Burberry’s cosmetics. I’m absolutely in love with the brand and I’m trying really hard not to buy everything they make (though I’m a bit embarrassed how much Burberry makeup I’ve managed to accumulate within the past year or so)… As far as my most recent indulgence, I’ve fallen in love with Dior’s 5 Couleurs palettes. They are oh so pretty, I bought four of them already (it’s shameful, really)…
5)I am the youngest of four siblings and my elder brothers and sister are 9, 10 and 13 years older than me :). So they were all moved out of the house by the time I was old enough for any kind of rivalry to even exist.
6) I’m excited about The Walking Dead season finale next Sunday!!
7)Actually, I’ve got several books. I love reading and I have had my favorites over the years. Most of them are by Romanian authors (where I’m from originally), so it makes no sense to name them. But I can mention David Lodge, a British author and an absolute delight. I love his books and the ones I’ve read (some of them more than) twice are “Deaf Sentence” (that’s not a miss spelling) and the books in his campus trilogy, “Changing Places”, “Small World” and “Nice Work” and lastly “Therapy”. He’s a brilliant writer and I highly recommend him. Than being said, the one book that I’ve probably read about 10 times over the years is “Gone With the Wind” :). I know, I know, I’ve seen the movie, of course, and Vivian Leigh is delightful, but the book is 10 times better than the movie. I was obsessed with Scarlet in my high school years and that book was well loved :).
8) Nope, they end up in the recycling bin :).
9) I’m not a very crafty person, but lately I’ve been enjoying making wreaths. I have made three of them already (one for spring/summer, one for autumn and one for winter). We have a pretty amazing story about our spring/summer wreath from last year, which we ended up throwing away. One morning I woke up to a pair of birds building a nest on top of it!! Yeah, I’m not even kidding. We stopped using the front door and spend most of the next few weeks completely stressed out because of the baby birds that kept falling out of the nest and we had to rescue and put them back in the nest. Long story short, all three ended up surviving and we even witnessed their first flying lessons (at first we didn’t know what to do, if we should go after them and put them back in the nest, we didn’t realize it was their time to fly away until I googled it and found out all about it). A couple of days ago I picked up a few supplies to make a new flowery wreath (we threw away the other after all the birds flew away to avoid salmonella contamination). But that’s as far as my DIY projects go :).
10. Some of the best advice I ever received was to stop smoking, which I did almost a year ago and I never looked back. It was, by far, the best decision I have ever made for myself, apart from moving to the US and marrying the most incredible man I have ever met :).
Phew… That was a long, long “comment” lol. Hope I didn’t bore you with all my rambling.
Take care, Karen!
Karen says
Hi Aida,
I loved your story about the wreath. 🙂
Where I live there are a LOT of birds (my condo is surrounded by oak trees), and I see quite a few nests; sometimes the baby birds fall out of them. I always have to be careful when I take Tabs out because otherwise he’ll pounce on them. 🙁 I forget sometimes that my diva is a hunter, sigh.
Have fun making your new flowery wreath for spring. What colors are you using?
Aida says
I’m using only off-white flowers, I think there’s just an elegant look to that :). We have two cats, they never go outside, but one of them was completely obsessed with the new neighbors and spent a lot of time by the front door watching them ;).

1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people? Oh yes. I skidaddled, if you will, down some metal stairs at an Atlanta Hawks game when I was a teen. Horrified, I sprung up and ran out of there! I still have a scar on my back from that!
2. Do you do blue eye liner? Not frequently, but I’m not against any eyeliner color.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats? 2 words: FLIP FOPS, specifically Sanuk’s yoga mat flip flops. Can’t tell you how much they feel like walking on clouds (b/c I’ve never walked on clouds before), but I think it would feel EXACTLY like wearing these awesome comfy shoes.
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence? I’m having a NARS moment. Also, foundation has been finding it’s way to my shopping cart a lot lately. Oh and this eye cream I just saw on 312 Beauty…Elizabeth Dehn One Love Organics Vitamin E Eye Balm. Shea butter? Yes, please!

Sugar sand beach and emerald waters…I can hardly stop thinking about it, esp. since it’s 39 here today! Boo!

Hi Kristen,
I’m so excited about your trip. I haven’t gone on vacay in ages, so I will have to vicariously live through you. I hope the water is warm when you go!
BTW, I loved the Ramona books, too. Remember the book where Ramona fills the sink with the toothpaste? I’ve always wanted to that, hahaha!
kristen @ glambunctious says
LOL! Yes! I too have always wanted to fill up the sink with toothpaste, lol! That cracked me up, Karen. Good memory! 🙂
You definitely need a trip, too! Everyone needs a little something to look forward to. 🙂

Hi Kristen,
My b-day is in June. I’m very much a gemini! How about you?
kristen @ glambunctious says
I’m also a gem, May 24th for me. Do you find that people are look, “Oy vay, you’re a gemini?!” I think that’s so weird! I’ve always found geminis quite delightful, if I do say so myself! 🙂

You have a great Tuesday too, Petra! What’s on your to-see list for your NY trip? I visited once in 2003 and liked it very much.
Lieke says
1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people?
Haha, unfortunately quite some times.
2. Do you do blue eye liner?
I have one, that I only use when I wear clothes in the same color blue. I have brown eyes and hair and don’t really like it on me.
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats?
Mmh, I think pretty much all pairs of flats are comfy, especially compared to high heels. Can’t really name a brand I particularly like.
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence?
I really love tinted daycream, I don’t like foundation but this is still a little bit like it, though much less covering.
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up?
Me and my sister never got along, but rivalry? Nope.
6. I’m excited about spring! I hope the weather changes soon so I can actually enjoy it.

1. Have you ever awkwardly slipped or tripped in front of a large group of people?
I have done this too many times to remember specifics. But at least some of those times there was ice involved. So that’s something.
2. Do you do blue eye liner?
Love it. Seems to make my eyes light up. Love teal liners, esp. Tarina Tarantino Kanzashi or Spark of Envy (which is actually kind of emerald, but kind of teal, and teal is kind of blue. Ipso facto, by the transitive property…)
3. Can you recommend a comfy pair of flats?
Born!! They have great arch support and cushioned footbeds, and they’ve come out with some cute styles lately.
4. Your current favorite makeup or beauty indulgence?
I’ve finally gotten sucked into MAC.
5. Did you deal with any sibling rivalry when you were growing up?
I wish there had been a sibling to rival me for my parents’ attention. I wish.
6. I’m excited about _____.
Suits!
7. Name a great book you loved so much that you’ve read it at least twice.
Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things is probably my favorite novel of all time. I’ve read most Agatha Christie novels still in print at least twice. When I was a kid, I read Lynne Reid Banks’ The Fairy Rebel so many times and with such rapt attention that to this day (20 yrs later) I can recite pages-long passages from memory. I’ve read Celine’s Journey to the End of the Night several times, but he’s quite an acquired taste.
8. Do you keep the fortunes from fortune cookies?
I once got a fortune that was really deep and really appropriate, and I’ve kept it for years…but it’s in a drawer somewhere, and I don’t remember what it said.
9. How often do you do DIY (do it yourself) projects?
As often as I have time, or when something breaks.
