You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past four years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- How are you feeling right now?
You know, I’m feeling great. My weekend was so relaxing. I had the slumber party with Jen and Cindy on Saturday night, and on Sunday afternoon when I got home, I just hung out with El Hub and Tabs around the house and puttered. Did small life things that had to get done — cleaned the house a little, went to the grocery store. Then we just watched some TV. But the whole entire weekend, overall, did a lot for my mental health. I feel happy and chill and just really great about the week ahead. - What’s on your plate for today?
Well, I’ve got a ton of writing to do first thing this morning, but that should be fun. After that, makeup pics in the afternoon.Hopefully by the late afternoon I have some time for more cleaning around the house. I don’t know what happened! At some point between Christmas and New Year’s, all hell broke loose, and the place is a total mess. I’m going to try to do a little cleaning and straightening each day to hopefully make some progress on it by the end of the week.
- What’s one of the main things you consider when contemplating a lipgloss purchase?
How it smells/tastes. Those are big for me. If it smells or tastes funny, I know I won’t use it. It has to have a yummy flavor (or no flavor at all). Same goes for scent. If it has that popular plasticky taste or makes my tummy churn, then no can do.
- At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
The girls and I were actually talking about this on Saturday night. You know when you have a slumber party, and you turn out the lights, but you don’t go right to sleep? That’s what we did, and this was one of the things we talked about in the dark. 🙂I feel like for me…it happened in my late 20s and early 30s. I think it just took me a long time to grow up. I mean, I’m still growing up, but I took some decent strides around that time.
- What’s your midnight snack of choice?
GURL, I know I probably shouldn’t be snacking at midnight, but when I do, and I feel like something savory, I go for popcorn. Ohmigosh! — my new thing right now is this salty, olive-oil-flavored pre-popped stuff they carry at Trader Joe’s. It’s like, the later it is, the better it tastes! And when I’m in the mood for something sweet, I usually go for ice cream.
- Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
At one point in my life I was, but now I’m a big, frickin’ baby. Unless somebody is standing at the edge of the pool with, like, a thick robe and a bunch of towels ready for me when I get out, I won’t do it. I just don’t like to be cold. - What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
I don’t know if I should be admitting this, but when I’m in a hurry and there’s cat hair all over my face, I’m capable of taking the lint roller and rolling it over my cheeks and forehead… - Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
Let’s see: 10 years ago I was 27, working a 9-to-5 and living in the city. I miss a couple of things from that time, like living in San Francisco. I loved the energy, and there was always something interesting to do.I also miss having more time. I miss those long stretches where I didn’t really have anything to do, and I could do whatever I wanted to. These days, it feels like I’m always doing something, planning something or thinking about something.
- Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
Pink and black plaid. Button down. Flannel. Long sleeves. 🙂 - What are your goals for the week?
I think I also had this goal last week, and that’s to be off the computer each night by (iPhone doesn’t count).Since I made it to Trader Joe’s last night, I also want to make some healthy meals for dinner, and I’d really love to paint my toenails… Maybe something dark and sparkly.
If time permits, I’d love to clean up my office, too. The floor is like an ocean of clutter in there, and I’d like to take Tabs out for a few short walks while it’s sunny, so he can get some fresh air.
To complete the Monday Poll, just copy the following list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.

Happy Monday! I hope your hair’s behaving today (and I’m saying this because mine has been crazy lately).
Mine hasn’t settled since I got it cut and colored a couple weeks ago… It’s in that early, awful phase where getting it to behave is like herding cats.
Have a great week, okay? I hope something nice and unexpected happens to you. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Chelsea says
1. How do you feel right now?
Pretty good! First day back at work, and my financial aid is already in!
2. What’s on your plate for today?
Work, head to the bank, go to the community college and order transcripts…
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
I really don’t wear lip gloss! I mostly do tinted balm or lipstick. But nothing goopy and no weird smells (like, I like the L’Oreal Colour Riche Balms, but they have a flowery scent, as do a lot of Lancome lippies.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
Not sure if I’ve reached that yet! I’m 25, for the record.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
I wake up hungry in the middle of the night sometimes, so I usually zombie-walk to the kitchen to grab a banana and go back to bed. Otherwise, cereal!
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
Um, that sounds fun!
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
That I love avocados! They were scary to me in the past, but I am addicted to avocado and guacamole.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
Nothing. I was a sophomore in high school, and it was probably one of the worst points in my life.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
I have some baggy knee-length harem pants (no drop crotch though), and a tank top!
10. What are your weekly goals?
Work out a couple times, bring my lunches to work, and get my transcripts transferred over to my university.
Kirsten Holen says
1. How do you feel right now?
I’m pretty irritated, I wont lie. Uncooperative sick children can do that. Now they are making loud noises and hitting stuff with toy weapons.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
Vacuuming the entire house, organizing my coupons… finish painting my nails. Doing some dishes. Making a blog post! I’m a little busy. 🙂
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
I’m not sure I have ever really contemplated this. I look for reviews and read beauty blogs, first, to make sure they’re not stick and they don’t have some weird scent/flavor. Then I chose based on color/sheerness.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
Probably 23. I’m 24 now, and it took some serious life choices to get me where I am today and learn about myself to where I know what I want. I am so happy, now, and it helps that I am surrounded by friends and family who love me for exactly who I am meant to be.:)
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
Depends on my cravings… lately I’ve been on a dried plum kick. I think the fiber fills me up nicely at night.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
Yes! I love swimming. I wish I had a heated outdoor pool. I would do laps every single day for exercise.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
As bad as it sounds… that I was never meant to have children. I have great mom instincts and I can do it, I’ve just never had the biological clock, the need, the want. That being said, I love my boyfriend’s children and I would give them the world if I could. I just hope that they are patient with me!
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
Nothing, really. That wasn’t a great time in my life. If I had to pick something… not having to worry about/pay bills. 😛
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
Right now I’m wearing polar bear sleep pants and a green shirt. Being that it’s almost 11 I should put some clothes on. /cough
10. What are your weekly goals?
Hem some pants, make a blog post every day, finish a painting or drawing.
This was far more revealing than I had expected. Kind of feels nice to get that out there, though. 😮
lolamd says

10. What are your weekly goals? Train for half marathon.
Karen says
That’s cool that you’re doing a half marathon. When is it?
Christina says
1. How do you feel right now?
I feel good! I’m finally starting to feel like I’ve gotten over my cold. A little congestion here and there but no biggie.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
I’m preparing and finishing some pieces for an Etsy shop that I plan to open before the spring semester starts in my parts. I’ve been crocheting like crazy to get some prototype items ready.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
How well it maintains itself on my lips! I’m guilty of rubbing my lips together a lot so, if that lipgloss starts to become uneven or rub off, then it’s a no-go for me!
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
I feel like I’m in the process of that happening. I’m 22 at the moment but I feel like I still have a bit of growing up and more life experiences I need to go through before I become who I am meant to be.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
For something sweet, warm milk and cookies. For something salty and savory, Trader Joe’s Seaweed snack packs. Yum!
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
No way! I’m the kind of person who likes to bury themselves under a pile of blankets! I used to be able to handle the cold better but I guess being born and raised in San Diego does this to you 😛
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
If the situation presents itself, I can be assertive (though within the constraints of Filipino culture respectfulness). While I can still be meek and seemingly passive, I’ve been getting better at speaking my mind more and I hope to get better at it!
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
When I was 12 years old, I was just finishing up elementary school. Oh, the simple days! I miss not really having to care about anything except getting your homework done and catching your favorite cartoon on TV (Sailor Moon!). Those were some good times.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
Periwinkle blue with kitties on them! 🙂
10. What are your weekly goals? I really want to go to Trader Joe’s and find this Strawberry Chia drink that one of my friends have been raving about. I am also going to open my Etsy shop by Wednesday and visit some peeps at my college to help promote my shop!
Karen says
Hi Christina,
That’s cool that you’re opening up an Etsy shop. What types of things are you crocheting?
And oooh — gotta hunt down that drink at Trader Joe’s!
Christina says
Hi Karen!
My Etsy shop is going to be selling biology-inspired crocheted items! (it took me FOREVER to come up with its name, Off The Hook Biology) I have really sciencey-intense stuff like a nucleosome, an antibody, and I’m trying to come up with more ideas. Isn’t it funny what a Biology degree can do for you? 😛
Also, it’s absolutely delicious! I got four bottles last week and I need to stock up more.
Phyrra says

Ru says
GREAT questions today Karen!
1. How do you feel right now?
The day started off feeling great, but quickly went downhill as I realized I’ve seriously slipped on my workout regiment and I went through the feelings of sadness, uselessness, motivation, excitement, excuse-making, laziness, then sadness again.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
2 more hours of work, then off home to either 1)take it easy and do Wii Fit or 2)get serious and do P90x (if I can find the disks…)
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
Stickiness. I don’t really buy lipgloss. They seem to last forever.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?

5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?

9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
I don’t have a set. My favorite is a long full sleeve maxi. Its comfy, cute looking, and keeps me warm!
10. What are your weekly goals?
Get it together with the exercise thing! Accomplish little tasks as home since I don’t have any major events this week (yet).

2. What’s on your plate for today? Get better… finish some magazines, watch DVD, nothing to exiting…

3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?the colour.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be? I am not sure I am there yet.

9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like? silk black maybe, ha.
10. What are your weekly goals? Work, blah. But I plan to re-decorate my kitchen and bathroom soon, so that’s exciting.
PS. have you seen Hart of Dixie?
Karen says
Hi Marina,
I haven’t seen that show yet. I’ve heard of it though. Do you like it?
Marina(Makeup4all) says
I have watched it during the holidays and actually did like it a lot. It’s about a NYC doctor who comes to Alabama. That’s all I’m gonna say 😉 You can watch a trailer on Youtube. Let me know what you think if you do.
Linnea says
1. How do you feel right now? I’m.. off. This weekend happened in a blur, and it was the last weekend of “holiday” consumption: food, wine, etc. I didn’t overindulge, but all day Sunday I was nauseous and felt just deflated. Today, no nausea, but I don’t have the pep in my step. I hope I’m not getting sick!
2. What’s on your plate for today? Get through work! Actually spend time in my house, which has been abandoned for 3 ish days now — clean the kitchen and cook a meal that doesn’t make me feel like garbage. Pass out at an appropriate time!
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss? Sparkliness(Word?) I’m not a huge fan of sparkles, I’d rather have less sparkles and more colour. Also consistency!
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be? I would say probably around 21-22. I got rid of the high school hangups and decided to be me without apologies. The last year (24) hasn’t been consistent with that promise, but I hope 2013 (25) will be the year I get back into stride.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice? Popcorn for sure! No butter, just salt. I also like to randomly snack on massive amounts of pomegranates.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day? Yes, as long as its heated!
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself? I am an anti-adrenaline junkie. I seriously have no desire to scare myself.. this includes slides, rides, jumps, skiing, etc.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life? I was 14.. so I would definitely say the nothing to do part of my life. Heck, it just seems like every weekend nowadays is dominated by family or cleaning, and if you do take a day “off”, you end up feeling guilty about it. There’s always something to do around the house or to plan around the house. Also, the ease of school! Work is hard (in a good way), but back then I didn’t have to think too much 🙂
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like? Purple tanktop and shorts or pants. Non-flannel, just plain cotton.
10. What are your weekly goals? Get rid of this sickness/funk thing. Get some good sleeps and try going to workout or yoga 3 times. Relax!
Karen says
Hi Linnea,
How funny that you just mentioned pomegranates! I have one in my fridge right now. My friend Jen was saying yesterday how it’s one of her fave snacks, which got me craving it. I can’t wait to eat it. 🙂
Melissa says
1. How do you feel right now?: Overwhelmed with the work I need to do for tomorrow.
2. What’s on your plate for today?: I had pumpernickel toast this morning with white currant jam, some cheese and grapes for lunch, no idea what I’ll be making for dinner yet!
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?: I don’t use lipgloss, but if I did I think it would have to be how thick and sticky it felt. That’s the main reason why I don’t use it, so if I could find something with an amazing texture that didn’t get my hair stuck or whatever, I’d be a happy camper.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?: Not really sure if I got there yet.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?: Those little Laughing Cow cheese wedges. I love it with grapes or FoodShouldBeGood olive crackers.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?: Yes! I love the mix of hot and cold. Sometimes when I get out of the shower I’ll open the bathroom window in winter to let some cold in.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?: That I still care about what people think about me, no matter how hard I try not to.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?: Well I was just starting high-school, and I don’t particularly miss that time. I do miss seeing my friends as often as I did back then. Now a few texts a year exchanged around birthdays and holidays don’t cut it for me.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?: A black camisole and black and white floral pattern silk pants
10. What are your weekly goals?: re-take some tests and hope I get a good enough score
Have a great week, everyone!
Karen says

Cozy black sweatpants and a soft v-neck tee, complete with fuzzy slippers!
10. What are your weekly goals?
Get through the giant to do list I made around New Year’s Day lol
Karen says
Hi Liz,
I know how it feels to be in your early 20s and to feel lost. It sounds like you’re starting to figure out your next steps, though, and that’s great! Any idea of what you think you might do next?
Tennyoceres says
1. How do you feel right now?
Hella efficient. Over the weekend I cleaned my apartment, did laundry, and organized my beauty emergency kits. One for my work bag, and one for my car. I went with my husband to visit friends. Somehow I found spare time for an at-home manicure and pedicure. Right now I’m tackling multiple projects but I still feel like I have enough free time for M&BB =p
2. What’s on your plate for today?
There is a very hilly street I want to walk up tonight. I have to get my cardio up for the AHA Fight for Air Stairclimb. (I did it last year! http://www.lung.org/pledge-events/ca/san-francisco-climb-fy12/)
Cooking vegetarian tonight. Spicy roasted eggplant, steamed vegetables, and brown rice.
Watch Tai Chi Zero (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tai_Chi_0) tonight. I love poorly acted wuxia/kung fu movies with over-the-top fight sequences. That and there’s no Monday Night Football on anymore. We have to fill the void.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
– Color. If it’s too sheer I might as well get lip balm!
– Lip Feel. Grittiness and super tacky texture are bad juju.
– Moisturizing. Not a major consideration until winter, when my lips become all sorts of peeling dry mess.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
My late 20s.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
Chocolate, popcorn, and sometimes a combination of the two.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
I would jump in! You didn’t say anything about coming out, right? =D
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
I have a calming phone voice.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
Affordable, late night munchie choices near my dorm.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
A giant t-shirt (may or may not be my husband’s property), and oversized sweats from my college days.
10. What are your weekly goals?
– Find better storage for my nail polish collection. The clear bins I have can’t support the weight anymore =(
– Test the new Sephora Metallic eyeshadows I bought. So pretty and work perfect!
– More steep, uphill walking rather than flat plain/mall walking. Gotta get me some calves to make ‘dem heels WERQ!

Hi Tennyoceres,
I love steep hill climbing/running. That’s one thing I miss about my old neighborhood in Mill Valley…the steep hills. So great for exercising?
Speaking of climbing stairs, do you ever climb the stairs up to Coit Tower? It’s a great workout.
Suri says
1. How do you feel right now? Pretty good. I’m focused on what I need to do for work and school and I’m going to jump into it in a few.
2. What’s on your plate for today? Work which is over now, now the evening entails dinner and hw for my grad class.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss? Taste is big but I actually consider the stickiness. I really dislike glosses that are super sticky then my hair gets caught on it, then it smears on my glasses and I can’t see. Ugh such a drama. On the other hand I hate glosses that disappear within a half hour. Gotta find a balance.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be? I would probably say at 30 I finally felt comfortable in my shoes.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice? It depends on whether I want sweet or salty and then it depends on what I have in the house. If it’s sweet it’s usually cake or cookies, if it’s salty it’s chips.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day? No. Never have been.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself? I’m a leader and it’s okay for me to be one.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life? I was 22 so I miss living at home, not paying rent or any of those real adult bills. I partied ALOT, hung out, and did whatever I wanted. Fun times.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like? I’m a total nerd so I will either have matching jammies or just some funky pants and a tshirt.
10. What are your weekly goals? Finish my paper and readings for hw by Thurs, do some laundry because I am super backed up, work out 2xs, and knock that work to do list out by Friday.
Mel Layesen says
1. How do you feel right now?
I feel pretty good, though my feet are a little cold.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
I have to go to the dry cleaners to get my shirt fixed, some stains removed, and my pants shortened. I have an internship interview on Friday, so I gotta have my pants by then!
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
Color, scent, and taste. I don’t like flavored or overly scented lipglosses.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
Hmm…I’m 20 going on 21, and I think I finally have the personality that I am meant to have. Romantically, I finally had the relationship I’m meant to have at age 20. Professionally speaking, though, I’m not there yet, but I’m having a great time on the journey to getting there.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
Chocolate cookies. It’s Tim Tam season in the U.S., so my late-night snack of choice are those delicious, creamy cookies from down under.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
No way. I’m the type of person who’d curl up in bed with fuzzy socks and a good movie or TV marathon on a cold, overcast day.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
I recently discovered that I am much more capable than I give myself credit for.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
My innocence and willingness to suspend reality and live in my own fantasy world just for a little bit.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
Gray fitted sweats and

1. How do you feel right now?
All right! I had to go into work both days this weekend but (oddly) didn’t mind. I feel like I’m getting my stride with life and figuring out what I want to do with my career.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
Going out to dinner with some new friends after work!
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
Consistency. I loathe thinner lipglosses that bunch up on themselves when I press my lips together. It looks gross, and they end up being high maintenance despite claims of a sheer, flexible formula.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
No idea. I’m 22.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
Anything. I will eat things that range from crackers to burgers depending on where I am and how I feel.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
Yup! I love doing that.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
That I can have discipline without hating myself. It’s been a long road of getting myself to do good things for myself (eating healthily, working out, saving money, etc) without practically bullying myself into doing the right thing. It’s a good way to (start) being.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
I was about the experience the magical moment when the Patriots won their first Super Bowl on my 12th birthday. That playoff run was what dreams were made of, and it was a thrill to follow.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
Tshirt and leggings.
10. What are your weekly goals?
Get back to eating breakfast at home, bringing lunch to work, and getting ready for regular workouts again.

1. How do you feel right now? Very excited! More to come on that next week.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
The Comcast guy came and fixed all of our cable issues. We’d had several channels that didn’t want to come in and a box that was broken. He basically had to redo all the cables and it took about 4 hours but it’s nice to check something off the list. Also, tonight is Taco night so I need to get the meat simmering soon.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss? Stickiness. I love MAC and NARS for their pigments and long lasting powers. Unfortunately they are just too sticky for me and they always end up in the back of my lippy drawer.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
Sometime during the last two years. I decided to take some risks and pursue a writing career instead of the nonprofit path I was on. I enjoyed my old job a lot but it just wasn’t what I wanted to do the rest of my life. I worked at a children’s hospital foundation and I knew that the constant reminders of all the things that can happen to children were keeping me from starting my own family so I made the crazy decision to leave. It was scary but empowering.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
Toast with butter and jelly or cinnamon sugar.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
As long as it’s heated sure.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
Hmmm, that 30 is a big year for making changes in my life. It’s vague, but I feel like I’ve made a lot of big decisions since my Birthday in August.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
My friends! Most of my college gals live in Chicago but I moved out West to Colorado. I wouldn’t change a thing but I do miss my girls.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
Yoga tights, and a long sleeved t-shirt
10. What are your weekly goals?
Get through all the piles of mail in the office and take it to be shredded and get on the ball for new kitchen counters. I also need to find a handyman to do some odd jobs around the house. I also need to write Christmas thank you notes.

~I know the feeling on just-cut hair at times. My solution has been to keep my layers a certain length and only get them touched up so that they don’t get too short and I’m unable to do anything with them. Hope you have a great week!
1. How do you feel right now?
~Happy. It was a good day, I got some good news on something career-related, and the fiance bought me some makeup at Sephora for my birthday gift (birthday was December 26, but between work and having some snow, couldn’t get out to Georgetown).
2. What’s on your plate for today?
~Went to Georgetown, walked around, checked out a specialty running store, called City Sports, and went to Lululemon (didn’t buy anything but saw an awesome yoga demo) and Sephora. Got some good loot at Sephora – Laura Mercier eyeshadow in African Violet, Laura Mercier eyeliners in Black Navy and Stormy Grey (my new fave), DiorShow Blackout mascara, a Kat Von D palette that was on sale (Star-Crossed), UD eyeshadow in Asphyxia, and another buy of my fave blush, Nars Orgasm. My fiance is a good sport! He’s overwhelmed by Sephora but hadn’t known what to get for my birthday so he suggested getting some things I wanted at Sephora.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
~I look for taste, smell, and appearance. Usually the sparkly ones or shimmery ones have the most appeal.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
~I am 25 now, and I feel like each year is a growing and learning experience. I think right now I am becoming who I want to be, but I still have a long way to go before I feel like I’m there. I’m very hard on myself and competitive with myself and I always have to do more. Each year and each experience teaches me something new.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
~Oh definitely popcorn, too. Something salty.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
~I would do it – I am not much for the cold either but as long as I’m moving I’m fine.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
~I’ve discovered that I have a lot of stamina left on my runs, even with time off for sickness or an injury. I’ve also discovered that once I push through the “wall” on a given run, my run becomes easier. It’s definitely been a big confidence booster on my runs and in life, because I realized that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
~10 years ago I was 15 and just starting my career in the medical field as a tech. I miss the fact that I was also training horses at the time, and was doing really well with that. Right now horses are more time and money than I have (reality sucks sometimes) and the money I have for activities needs to be spent learning MMA, strengthening yoga like Ashtanga, and anything else that will help boost my skills for my future career.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
~Either sweats and a tee, or fleece pajama pants and a long-sleeved tee.
10. What are your weekly goals?
~Sign up for MMA classes.
~Clean areas of the house that haven’t been cleaned yet.
~Get out running every day, including days I work.
~Keep a positive, happy, upbeat mood for everything and work on discipline in everything I do.

Oh, I love the cat herder commercial. 🙂

2. What’s on your plate for today? The day’s pretty much over for me. I just have to hit the treadclimber and then hit the hay!
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss? If it’s moisturizing.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be? Maybe when I got engaged 14 years ago. That seemed like the time to start growing up.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice? I’m not an after-dinner snacker, thank goodness.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day? Heated? Oh, you bet. Unheated? Probably on a dare. 🙂
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself? My metabolism is slowly dying. HAHA!
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life? Lots of sleep, BBC and Food Network (bed rest for the boys).
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like? Flannel sheep-print pants and a cuddle dud shirt.
10. What are your weekly goals? When it takes me like 2 minutes to think about what my goals should be, I know it’s time to just type “no goals”. 🙂
Stef Smith says
1. How do you feel right now? Sleepy, and a little excited for the kids to go back to school tomorrow!
2. What’s on your plate for today? Gym, lunch, short road trip, Target for toilet paper (ha!) and hanging out at home with the family.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss? Smell and stickiness. I don’t like a stinky lipgloss, it has to be unscented or peppermint, that’s it! No fruity smells! And I don’t like super sticky gloss, I find all lipgloss sticky, but I don’t like to pull hair out of it, and then have a line of gloss on my cheek from my hair. Silly I know.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be? 30. I had my second daughter at 30, it was the age that I always felt that I was meant to be. I’m 37 now, but I still say I’m 30. It just works!
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice? Whole wheat pita chips and garlicy hummus. Or a cookie.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day? Yep! I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a hot tub, for this very reason.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself? That I kinda sorta enjoy running. I’ve never considered myself a runner, but it’s starting to happen!
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life? There was a lot of excitement at that time. It was a weird time though. I had a four month old baby, and the husband left to start his job that he has now, and it was exciting because our lives were changing really really quickly. I miss that excitement. And I kind of miss having a baby, not enough to have another one, this babymaker is closed, but it was a fun time.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like? Ha! I don’t wear jammies! So I don’t have any. I’d probably just wear a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt with my high school mascot on it!
10. What are your weekly goals? Hit the gym for more running, get the kids to school (yay yay yay!), put my kitchen back together, put the laundry away, buy a new basecoat nail polish.

Hi Karen!!
1. How do you feel right now?
I’m tired. I went to work and learned how to get better.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
Well, since it’s the end of the day, I can tell you that I was planning to do laundry and a little bit of cleaning before work. Of course, that didn’t happen. x) But I am also gonna try to finish up my friend’s birthday card: I’m decorating it myself and it’s gonna have Detective Hello Kitty on it (she loves Hello Kitty and the show called Sherlock)
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
Straight answer: the name/flavor has blueberry in it. And if I like the price- the strawberry name/flavor is a separate factor. I don’t wear gloss much, but I have a handful in my collection and I’m making it a weekly commitment to wear gloss every Friday. 🙂
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
I’m 26. I don’t feel like I’m at that point yet 🙁 But I know I’ll get there!!
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
I would have said a salty kind of popcorn, too! I will have to try that Trader Joe’s one!
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
Hey, if I had access to that, YES. 😀
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
That my friendly personality doesn’t quite fit what my call center job wants. I have such a friendly tone but my tone sounds hesitant and doubtful apparently. I have to sound more assertive!
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
Definitely being in the marching band. I miss going to field tournaments and playing my clarinet!
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
errr my shirt is gray and my pants are dark blue. They aren’t very fun this week, but they’re comfy. 🙂
10. What are your weekly goals?
This week, to finish my friend’s card, and also to complete 2 more birthday cards (a lot of my friends’ bdays are in January!), to do my best in my job, and to study for my financial math exam!

1. How do you feel right now? I’ve had a bad cold, so a little down.
2. What’s on your plate for today? Mostly resting.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss? I don’t usually wear it, too sticky and not enought color payoff. Although I did just buy Hourglass Icon gloss, which is highly pigmented and not sticky.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be? Probably around 30, although I’m still learning and growing. I guess it really is a lifelong process.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice? I don’t eat after 7, can’t sleep with a full stomach.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day? I’ve never had the opportunity, but sounds fun.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself? I’m not as strong as I thought I was, and that’s ok. The world stops for no one.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life? Oh, I was 27 and recently moved to SF from NYC. Life was really fun and romantic. I miss the whimsy of it.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like? I love layers, always a jersey night gown and bottoms, socks and a top over it if it’s cold.
10. What are your weekly goals? To get over this awful cold, daily long walk with dog, finish reading book, clean house, color my hair, give myself a quality manicure.

First off before I start, about the hair behaving thing, I know what you mean! I have straight Asian hair, but it can turn this way and that if I sleep with it wet. Anyways, my hair has behaved pretty well ever since I switched to moisturizing shampoo & conditioner (I’m currently using Giovanni’s Smooth As Silk Deep Moisture line). However, bc of my straight hair, I use a clarifying shampoo every two or three washes. I used to use volumizing hair products, but it just completely dries out my hair. I know I’m not supposed to wash it every day, I’ve tried to cut it down to every other day, but I just like how it looks and feels after a fresh wash! The cons about moisturizing hair products is that it WILL make straight hair even flatter. However, I’m willing to take that con bc my hair seems much healthier (even when I blow dry without a protectant! but don’t make it a habit!!). Hope this helps!
1. How do you feel right now?
I don’t want to admit to this, but I’m kind of bummed. I recently graduated (*cough cough* six months ago *cough cough*), and I’m still searching for a job. Part of me says I’ve been too lazy and should do cold calls, and part of me says I’m not good enough for any of it. I know I shouldn’t be talking down to myself…just one of those days.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
Well, it’s almost the end of the day, so sleep is next. What’s on my plate for tomorrow is to have a fresh start on job hunting. I need a new method! I need to be positive!
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
I’m probably one of the few in the world to say this, but I HATE LIPGLOSS. I hate how it gets my hair sticky, and my lips are kinda big, and I just hate how it looks on me. I’m much more of a tinted balm kinda gal, but I will occasionally slap on some gloss when I’m on the prowl for the night LOL (I’m jk, I don’t prowl).
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
STILL WORKING ON IT!! Just in my early 20s, and I feel like I have loads to learn.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
If we have it…pizza. I can’t help myself. And I was NEVER a pizza person until after college. Weird, huh?
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
If I have friends with me, TOTALLY!!
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
I don’t look good with long hair, but I’m going to keep growing it out bc I’ve never had it past my boobs before. Just want to see if I can keep it up. Before I shave it off (true story).
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
Oh my…so long ago. To be quite honest, I don’t miss anything about that time. I was one confused little girl. Still learning, but less confused and more confident today.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
white tee with short shorts. I hate being too warm when I sleep.
10. What are your weekly goals?
Read more! I have a few books in my phone, but I just fall asleep so dang fast!
Kate & Zena says
1. How do you feel right now?
A little sad and really tired. On Saturday, Zena turned nine (NINE?! NINE?! My baby can’t be nine! *cries* ) and yesterday, I had a nasty heat seizure. Seizures wipe me out like nothing else.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
Well, I had to go to the bone specialist for my wrists and hips (AGAIN.) So, I have no carpal tunnel, pinched nerves or arthritis anywhere. He now has to look at a muscular dystrophy that runs in my family and we have to go to the endocrinologist to see if it’s an endocrine problem. UGH. It never ends, I swear.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
Flavor and scent. I can’t have either. However, I do love me some Stila…
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
Um, I’m still getting there I think sometimes.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
Candy canes, Lays potato chips, Annie’s cheddar bunnies, peppermints, Tillamook cheese….it really depends on my mood and what’s in my house!
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
Uh, no. Not when I have to get out and face the cold! I loathe the cold.

*was? Tons of salad and a protien smoothie. Maybe a few unmentionable peices of pizza and a sandwich thrown in there too…
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss?
Pigment and lasting power, for sure. If i’m buying a colored lipgloss I want the color to look that way on me and stay that way on me.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
I think I’m still waiting, but I feel as though I’m on the right path.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
usually tea. mmm a warm cup of tea and a slice of cheddar cheese goes heavenly together.
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
I’m the type of person who jumps into freezing lakes on a cold winter day.
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
That I have an interest in a lot of science-based stuff, despite priding myself on being a highly creative person.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
Being 8?… maybe my mom making me lunches?
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
Depends which kind of slumber party 😉 but usually just sweats or heavy plaid pj pants and a cool comfy t shirt.
10. What are your weekly goals?
Work out 3 times this week (min), start cutting out bad foods and booze, and work hard on all my classes 🙂

3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss? Stickiness but mainly taste and scent!
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be? Hmm, I’m still waiting for that feeling to kick in..
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice? Cheese. Or crisps. Anything savoury will do!
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day? I like to think so!
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself? I’m turning into a serious softie as I get older. Tearing up during films, crying at the airport, hugging cats for hours (although that one isn’t new)..
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life? I was 18, starting uni. It was a really difficult year but I do miss the feeling of learning new, exciting things every day. And living with my parents!
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like? Old, soft flannel with a comfy sweater!
10. What are your weekly goals? I moved flats last month but haven’t properly unpacked so tidying my room, getting a few hours of yoga done, and stepping away from the computer to read an actual book.
PS: I’m a bit late, but happy happy new year Karen!! And to El Hub and Tabs too of course! x

1. How do you feel right now?
Relaxed. I have tons to do but I’m focused and relaxed right now – I have recently started acupuncture treatments and maybe that is helping or maybe it is just in my head.
2. What’s on your plate for today?
An easier workout for today, working on my website and getting some phonecalls and emails out of the way.
3. What’s one of the main things you consider when shopping for a lipgloss? I don’t use lipgloss – haven’t found one I like so far. But if I had to, I’d go with pigmentation. I need some color to even out my lips.
4. At what age did you feel like you finally became the person you were meant to be?
I’m finally beginning to grow into my own skin. As a person. As a professional I still have miles to go but I’m becoming more comfortable with my qualities as a person. Hope this continues.
5. What’s your midnight snack of choice?
Milk!
6. Are you the type of person who’d jump into a heated outdoor pool on a cold, overcast day?
Absolutely!
7. What’s one thing you recently discovered about yourself?
I can be pretty zen if my health is okay. If I’m taking care of myself I can handle pretty much anything that life throws at me.
8. Think about where you were 10 years ago. What’s one thing you miss about that time in your life?
Hmm… I had a much more can-do attitude. I had just left my job and was looking forward to grad school. With the current economy I think I have let my spirit get a little subdued.
9. Slumber party time! What do your jammies look like?
Bright printed cotton drawstring pjs with a comfy old t-shirt.
10. What are your weekly goals?
To set weekly goals? LOL
One of my resolutions this year is to have a more clearly mapped out idea of what I want to achieve and then break that down into proper achievable goals per week and day.
