- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past four years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
A little sleepy, but otherwise great! 🙂 Tabs gave me the day off (he’s too kind), so I’m looking forward to relaxing today. - Do you shower in the morning or at night before bed?
Depends on whether I can sneak in an early workout. If I can, then I’ll usually (hopefully) shower when I’m done, but I may also shower again at night because I can’t stand going to bed with that sticky feeling on the backs of my knees, yuck! - Which movies would you never want to see remade?
Dear Hollywood Powers That Be,Please keep your re-making hands off of The Terminator, The Sound of Music and The Godfather (both I and II).
Thank you!
- When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I really wanted to be a veterinarian, but my mom and dad were quick about shooting down that idea when I got ready to go to college. My parents immigrated to the United States from the Philippines in the mid 1970s and arrived here with high hopes for the family, and because I got pretty decent grades in school, they were hell bent on me becoming a medical doctor (obviously that didn’t happen…and for the better! I can’t stand the sight of blood, and hospitals freak me out.)
I can still remember my dad saying, “Why work on animals when you could work on people?”
Sigh…
I love and appreciate my parents, but a lot of important discussions were lost in translation during my teenage years.
- What’s the best thing that happened to you yesterday?
I had an excellent run on the treadmill. The best in days, as a matter of fact.I ran a couple of time while I was in Tahoe, and truth be told, the runs sucked because I could definitely feel the effects of the altitude. The city is over 1 mile high, and it almost felt like I was running with a 20-pound weight strapped to my chest.
But now, though, back down at sea level where the oxygen is richer, I feel a little bit stronger for it.
- Let’s order a pizza! Where should we go, and what topping should we get?
That’s easy! I vote for the Fire Roasted Medley pizza from Base Camp Pizza in South Lake Tahoe. Roasted garlic and fresh basil, tomatoes, roasted onions, peppers and goat cheese on a slightly crisp, flavorful crust that doesn’t get soggy from the toppings? YUM! - Have you prepared at all for the holidays?
Yup! I actually got a few Christmas presents over the weekend. I swear, I’m starting really early this year! No more frantic, last-minute runs to the mall. Nope (or so she says). - What’s one of someone else’s habits that you wish you could change?
That’s easy. I wish El Hub would stop breaking dishes. I dunno why, but the man is such a butterfingers when it comes to plates, cups, glasses and bowls! I’m afraid to get any nice dishes for fear of him breaking them and haven’t owned a complete set of anything since we started dating 10 years ago.NOTHING in my cupboard matches, and it is slowly but surely driving me nuts.
- What sound reminds you of your childhood?
Ice cream trucks! The one from my old neighborhood played a music box version of The Entertainer, and I remember having almost supernatural hearing for it, LOL!Funny. There’s an ice cream truck that drives through this neighborhood on occasion playing the same song with a remixed bass beat. It’s like the hip-hop ice cream truck, haaaay! So weird.
- Weekly goals:
To be a good cheerleader for my friends and family, and to spend some extra time playing with the Tab-ster.
Hello and happy Labor Day, friend! It took me a while, but I finally watched the True Blood finale last night, so if you want to dish, holla at me in the comments so we can talk about that epic last scene (WHAT THE WHAT?!).
Also, I think I mentioned reading a book called Delirium by Lauren Oliver? Well, meh, it was just okay. Decent writing, but it puttered along at a slow pace, and I kept having Twilight flashbacks.
If you like pretty straightforward romances, it does get great reviews.
Right now I’m just counting down the seconds until Outpost, the second book in the Enclave series, comes out at midnight tomorrow. I pre-ordered it, but I’m wondering if midnight means that it’ll show up on my Kindle at midnight Pacific Time or Eastern. If it’s Eastern, that would mean 9 p.m. my time, which means I could start reading it tonight!
Okay…I need to chill out, LOL!
Anywho, if you have a minute, please drop in and say hello in the Monday Poll.
- To complete the Monday Poll, just copy the following list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.

I didn’t like Delirium much either….but have you read Divergent? OMG, I think you’d love it. =)
1. Mood: Fulfilled. The house is cleaned and I have things ready for lunch and dinner, and the kids are happy. Husband still napping (he’s sick) but I’ve got soup ready for him when he’s up. The only thing is, I’m still grubby and haven’t gotten out of my PJs yet. And very glad I get the day off from work today!
2. Do you shower in the morning or at night before bed? At night, because I like to go to bed feeling clean and comfy in my sheets.
3. Which movies would you never want to see remade? Anne of Green Gables…it was one of my favorite books as a child, and when I saw it made into a movie with Megan Follows…well, nobody could ever replace that and make me happy…!

7. Have you prepared at all for the holidays? No, not at all!
8. What’s one of someone else’s habits that you wish you could change? My husband tends to leave things around everywhere…cups, socks, clothes, dishes in the sink (that he says he will wash at dinnertime). However, I have to give him credit – he is watching our two girls while I’m at work during the day, has delicious dinners prepared for me every night, and will clean everything else I don’t want to (floors, for example!). So though we’ve talked about it, I help him pick things up and clean up the dishes whenever I can as well. After all, marriage is something that works between two people that complement each other in all sorts of ways, right? =)
9. What sound reminds you of your childhood? I’d have to say the ice cream truck too. Many memories of my brother and I getting snacks that my parents never bought – cheesey popcorn and big stics were my favs. And memories of us running after it after it was way ahead of us…!
10. Weekly goals: To run more consistently (I took almost two weeks off, boo!), and balance work and home better – school just started and so last week was exhausting. I hope to do it better by the end of this week! AND to get used to wearing heels again. =)

Hi Gummy,
I read a couple chapters of Divergent but couldn’t get into it. Please tell me you’ve read Enclave!
Gummy says
I just got it for my kindle! $2.99 on amazon right now, hee hee. =) Thanks for the rec, by the way, and glad you had a great time in Tahoe! The food looked AMAZING! And OH MY. Lychee shaved ice??? Is it as good as one would get in Hawaii? I’ve never had such deliciously, finely shaved ice as Waiola’s ever since…(Matsumoto’s is good too. But I think Waiola’s is my shaved-ice-first-love, so it’s just going to be biased-ly better by nature, no matter what people say!).

Katherine G says
1. Mood:
~Tired, had a busy weekend. Happy that I had today off to myself to just hang out, but it’s kind of lonely with the fiance still at work.
2. Do you shower in the morning or at night before bed?
~Both. The morning tends to be a longer shower after my workout, or before work, and the night one if I feel yucky is just a quick clean-up.
3. Which movies would you *never* want to see remade?
~I agree with you on the Godfather. They are just fine as originals and should never be remade.
4. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
~I also wanted to be a vet, a horse vet. I did pretty well in school but wasn’t a straight A student. When I got in high school I entered the medical world and have been there for 8 years now. I am going for another type of job, which has been a dream and goal of mine for about 4 years now. Same kind of field but totally different job. Now that I have my degree hopefully that will open more doors but it’s not an easy road to get to any job in the type of field I am in.
5. What’s the best thing that happened to you yesterday?
~I had a great run with my neighbor, and her dog, Frankie. He is a one year old Golden Retriever and I’ve known him since he was a little 8 week old puppy. I also helped my brother-in-law and fiance get tree stands up for the property we hunt on for deer season. We try to get them up either before the season starts or very early in the season.
6. Let’s order a pizza! Where should we go, and what topping should we get?
~Hmmmm…I would make it since I have a special recipe, and it’s a good, thick crusted pizza. It’s also not greasy like a lot of pizzas can be because it is homemade. Any topping you want! I personally love a good pineapple pizza.
7. Have you prepared at all for the holidays?
~Nope, I always end up working either Thanksgiving or Christmas, so I don’t do very much at all. I feel like it’s still early in the season. I don’t do much for New Year’s anymore because I’ve either had to work NYE or New Year’s day.
8. What’s one of someone else’s habits that you wish you could change?
~I would probably change timeliness – my family is pretty on-time with going to events but some of my friends and some in-laws are not always on time. It becomes tiring after a while when you spend all day on something that should have ideally taken a few hours or started earlier. I tolerate it most of the time but I get very tired if I have other plans for the day and I can’t make them because I’m waiting around for someone.
9. What sound reminds you of your childhood?
~Also ice cream trucks – they always came by the neighborhood pool! Muscle cars, too, I spent a lot of time as pit crew for my brother when he started racing at a young age. When I wasn’t with the horses, I was with the drag racing cars.
10. Weekly goals:
~Have strong workouts.
~Call my scheduler and see if she has any needs for this week and next week.
~Start looking into any education I could get into for my future job. Look into what it would take to get a master’s degree.

1. Mood: Completely exhausted. I was in Kitchener, Canada, this weekend for a dance competition, and just came back home. It was a 9-10 coach bus ride from Kitchener to Chicago.
2. Do you shower in the morning or at night before bed?: At night. My hair ends up looking better that way.
3. Which movies would you *never* want to see remade?: I also agree with “The Sound of Music” and “The Godfather”! Also, I would sob if they remade “Fiddler on the Roof” or “To Kill a Mockingbird”. (A few years ago, I was not at all happy that there was an American remake of the Swedish movie “Let the Right One In”. It was unnecessary.)
4. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?: A journalist. Definitely not happening now.
5. What’s the best thing that happened to you yesterday?: I got to go back to my hotel four hours early, which meant I could sleep!
6. Let’s order a pizza! Where should we go, and what topping should we get?: Gyros pizza from a restaurant downtown.
7. Have you prepared at all for the holidays?: Nope.
8. What’s one of someone else’s habits that you wish you could change?: One girl in my dance group always yawns with her mouth open. It bugs me so much.
9. What sound reminds you of your childhood?: Oldies songs.

7. Have you prepared at all for the holidays? Excuse me? Which one? Halloween? No. Thanksgiving? haha No. Christmas? hahahahaha NO! I am blessed that my family cherishes the handwritten letters my daughter makes for each of us more than anything store bought. The memories and laughter… words fail me. I’m lucky if they give me a list with more than 3 items each. One year, my daughter only wanted ONE present worth $30. I got creative and bought her the same amount as her siblings. Never again. She tore through and tossed aside all the gifts until she got to the one present she had asked for. I told her if she ever only gave me one item, I would hide it under a dozen wrapped, empty boxes for her.
8. What’s one of someone else’s habits that you wish you could change? Well… I’d love for my husband to put his keys in the same spot. My husband is searching for his lost car keys. It’s been going on 3 hours now. He’s ALWAYS misplacing his keys!!!

Mackenzie-Childs make really pretty “enamel” dishware. I believe it is made of metal with an enamel coating over the top (so it should be hard to break). It is pretty pricey, but lasts years and years, and the stuff under the clearance section is very reasonable. I am coveting that set and will slowly start to collect it soon. I have the “butterfingers” in my house, so I’m trying to find hard to break dishware! FYI, I just love your blog and you have such great taste in makeup… the purchases I have made on your suggestion(s) have all been fantastic! Keep up the great work!!!

Thank you for the recco, Shannon! I’ve never heard of this line and it sounds PERFECT. I am hell bent on getting some nice plates!
