All day, every day, all I wanna do is paint my nails…
- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past four years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
Itchy! Wait — is that a mood?I don’t know, but it might as well be, because scratching is just about the only thing on my mind. I switched fabric softeners last weekend, and I think I might be allergic to the new one, ack!
I rewashed everything last night — the bed sheets, bath towels and a lot of my clothes — and used a different detergent and fabric softener, both of them unscented.
I think it’s starting to help… The itch isn’t quite as bad as it was yesterday.
- Stripes or polka dots?
Polka dots! 🙂 They’re just so cheerful. - What’s your go-to quickie breakfast?
Oatmeal with almond milk and sugar, which I like to call “my morning gruel.” LOL! It’s quick and easy on my tummy, and I usually have a good run when I exercise after I eat a bowl of oatmeal. - Have you been watching the Olympics?
Absolutely! Last night we watched the swimming, synchronized diving and some of the women’s gymnastic semifinals.I think the coverage has even been a little better this year. I feel like I’m seeing more stories about more athletes than usual. Some years it seems like the networks just focus on a handful of athletes. I like the long, fancy profile stories, too, but sometimes I think the hype goes a little overboard and can even influence the games.
It’s just amazing to me how much grace Olympic athletes show under such extreme pressure. They work their entire lives, and it all comes down to a single moment. It’s very inspiring.
Also, not gonna lie! — I like to see what the athletes are up to in the beauty department, like all the cute manis/pedis this year. Almost every one of the women competing in swimming and diving yesterday was sporting something special on their nails. Oh, and the gals who wear eye makeup to the pool? LOVE IT! Women after my own heart.
- How often do you wear bronzer?
Almost every day. I think it gives my face some warmth and helps define my cheeks.I alternate among a few different products, but my favorites right now are Benefit Hoola, NARS Laguna, MAC Refined Golden, MAC Give Me Sun and MAC Nude on Board.
- Cream eyeshadows: love ’em or leave ’em?
Love ’em! No fallout, and they’re usually very easy to blend. Plus, they’re versatile. I can wear one alone or as a base for powder shadow. - When was the last time you rode a Ferris wheel?
Oh, geez… It’s been a while. Maybe 2003 or 2004 at the County Fair. - What would be the first sentence on page 226 of your autobiography?
“2006 was a good year — the year I discovered Nutella.” - What are your three favorite places to browse for beauty products?
Sephora, Target and the MAC counter at the Northgate Mall. - Weekly goals:
Just one this week — to be inspired by the Olympics and to channel that inspiration in my own way.At the end of every day, I want to be able to say that I did my best and left nothing behind.
Good morning, friend! How goes it? I hope you had a nice weekend and were able to sneak in some meow time for yourself (it’s important!).
It’s another Monday, which means 1) we have a full week of fun ahead of us, and 2) it’s time to check in with the Monday Poll.
- To complete the Monday Poll, just copy the following list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.

Happy Monday!! 🙂
1. Mood: I feel itchy, too. But for a different reason. I’m on Pinterest and, you know how I feel about really big makeup palettes (overwhelmed and like I want to run away)? Well, multiply that by like 1000 every time I have to get on Pinterest!

3. What’s your go-to quickie breakfast? Fiber One bars (oats and chocolate)

8. What would be the first sentence on page 226 of your autobiography? At 2 years old, it was difficult to understand why my mother refused to let me play with the adorable mouse, wandering groggily across the kitchen floor, thanks to a belly full of Decon. (I’m not known for my concise writing style so 226 pages wouldn’t get me to preschool – hee hee).
9. What are your three favorite places to browse for beauty products? Sephora, Sephora.com and http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com.
10. Weekly goals: Stay organized; keep everything clean; do something fun and active with the boys every day.
Nina says
1. Mood: Not bad. 🙂
2. Stripes or polka dots? Both — I love those patterns both so.hard!
3. What’s your go-to quickie breakfast? I really love coffee and a slice or two of flat bread w/ nut butter, but if I really dont have time, a bottle of Green Machine by Naked Juice usually works. 🙂
4. Have you been watching the Olympics? I watched the 4 and a half hour long Opening Ceremony but something is wonky w/ NBC’s coverage — they seem to be showing the weirdest sports during prime hours and the prime sports in goodness-knows-when hours.

1. Mood:
~A little sleepy but content. Just found the L’Oreal Infallible shadow I wanted at Wegman’s while grocery shopping – Endless Sea. Happy that one of my favorite riders (though she is British – she’s the Queen’s granddaughter!) had a no-fault round in cross-country jumping.
2. Stripes or polka dots?
~Stripes! Love how nautical they can look.
3. What’s your go-to quickie breakfast?
~ A bagel (toasted) with peanut butter and honey or salmon cream cheese.
4. Have you been watching the Olympics?
~Heck yeah! I love gymnastics, swimming, diving, and all the horse events the best. Very happy that the rider mentioned in the above question, Zara Phillips (the Queen’s granddaughter) had a great cross-country round on her horse High Kingdom. Zara had to miss out on Hong Kong because her horse had an injury that year. Already seen some spectacular falls, too (unfortunately falls mean disqualification in the horse world). I am constantly amazed at how much strength and mental capability it takes to do this kind of stuff. I read (I think it was in Self magazine) that Misty May-Treanor and Kerrie Walsh practiced and worked out 40 hours or more a week! It’s a full time job to be an Olympian.
5. How often do you wear bronzer?
~More or less every day. It adds a sparkle and glow to my skin and enhances a tan nicely. I really like anything Physician’s Formula – I use the Mineral Glow pearls in Light Skin, and it works if I’m pale or tanned.
6. Cream eyeshadows: love ‘em or leave ‘em?
~Loving them especially the Maybelline Color Tattoos. I always had a problem before with drugstore formulas not staying on or creasing. These stay on very well especially with primer. I especially love Fierce and Tangy for sunset eye looks!
7. When was the last time you rode a Ferris wheel?
~Probably last year with the fiance.
8. What would be the first sentence on page 226 of your autobiography?
~Interesting question…wow, not sure!
9. What are your three favorite places to browse for beauty products?
~Walmart (they have a lot of different brands, and carry Milani and Hard Candy as well as the regulars), Sephora, and Ulta.
10. Weekly goals:
~Also to take inspiration from the Olympians in attitude and for my workouts.
~Take care of anything that needs to be taken care of before next week’s heavy work week that may also include a short beach trip (depending on if the house is going to be used by another member of the family that week).
~Stay positive!

5. How often do you wear bronzer? Usually in Summer, maybe once every two weeks or something? I picked up my first bronzer last Summer so I’m not too good at applying it yet. But with the Diorskin Nude Tan Nude Glow Sun Powder, it’s a breeze. I so love that product and need to wear it more often.
6. Cream eyeshadows: love ‘em or leave ‘em? Yes, I only use them as base because I find it so weird to leave the house without powder on top of the cream. I’m not sure why, I think it’s just a habit I have. The only cream-like product I can apply without having to add a powder on top is Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombre. Those are wonderful with or without powder on top.

1. Mood: Tired.
2. Stripes or polka dots?: Stripes all the way! I own way too many blue and black striped things.
30. What’s your go-to quickie breakfast?: Either handfuls of dry cereal, or a bagel. Granola bars work too, but not all of them are dairy-free. Too much breakfast makes me sick, as does dairy.
4. Have you been watching the Olympics?: You bet! I’m obsessed with them, both the Summer and Winter Games. (This is ironic, since I the only sport I watch during non-Olympic years is hockey, and even that’s only occasionally.) I flip between three TV channels, and watch different sports online. I watch every single sport. I’ve even watched table tennis and air rifle shooting. I also found out that I really like watching team handball. (And yes, I watched curling during the last Winter Olympics. I really meant it when I said that I watch every sport.)
5. How often do you wear bronzer?: Never. I don’t like being “warm”, “golden”, “bronzed”, or tan. I like being pale.
6. Cream eyeshadows: love ‘em or leave ‘em?: Eh, it depends on the formula. It’s just that to me, powder eyeshadows are more readily available, and come in a wider assortment of colors.

8. What would be the first sentence on page 226 of your autobiography?: No idea, but probably something sarcastic and/or witty.

1. Mood:
Jet-lagged if that’s a mood! It’s 6AM on Tuesday morning in Taiwan as we speak, and I’ve been awake for 2 hours! If were talking about Monday morning my time, I wasn’t able to get up till almost midday. This is horrible because I’ve been going to sleep at the same time, and I have nooo idea why it’s happening (age, probably lol). I’m OK though! I’m on holiday and it’s not as if I needed all that sleep to do something important.
