A new pair of running shoes! I wonder how far we’ll go together…
- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past four years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
- It’s Girl Scout Cookie season! Do you have a favorite kind?
- One thing you absolutely must finish today?
- What’s one lesson you wish you’d learned earlier in life?
- If you were given the choice to see five years into your future, would you take it?
- Is there anything you wish you spent less time doing?
- What’s one of your makeup mottos?
- List three makeup brushes you couldn’t/wouldn’t want to live without:
- Someday I’m going to…
- Weekly goals:
I’m all smiles today. 🙂 I feel like last weekend did wonders for me. I was able to catch up on some sleep and watch a few hours of brainless TV, which always improves my point of view.
I could eat an entire box of those Lemon Coolers, which I guess are called Savannah Smiles now, in a single sitting. Yesterday I purchased two boxes from the scouts on my street and can’t wait to devour them after dinner tonight!
I put off cleaning my office all weekend long, again, which is unfortunate, because now it looks like it was hit by a tornado.
That waiting for the “perfect time” to do something could lead to a lifetime of waiting.
That’s a tough one… Maybe if I knew I had the power to change whatever future I saw; otherwise, probably not. Where’s the fun in the journey if you know how things will turn out?
Worrying, for one. And I could definitely spend less time, as my mom would say, “dilly-dallying in the morning.” To put it mildly, morning is not my most productive time of day.
Yes, you most certainly do need another tube of pink lip gloss.
1) The MAC 266 Small Angle Brush for filling in my brows, 2) the Trish McEvoy 62 Fan Brush for applying foundation and 3) the MAC 224 Tapered Brush for applying under-eye concealer.
…visit Cannes, stop getting in my own way, cook a pecan pie from scratch, get a dining room table, and lose that last five pounds.
To break in my new running shoes, to get my email Inbox under control (it’s pushing 6GB!), to make plans to have lunch/dinner with friends next month, and to try enjoy each and every day.
Good morning and happy Monday to ya. 🙂 How goes it this morning? So far, so good on this end of the keyboard. I just finished my first run with a new pair of running shoes, so that’s been the highlight of my Monday morning so far.
I had to retire my old pair… Poor things had worn through the soles.
Do you have a favorite kind of running shoe? I’m a Sauncony girl, myself, and have been since 1996, but when I first started wearing ’em, man! — they weren’t nearly as cute as they are today, LOL!
If you have a minute this morning, please stop by, and let me know how you’re doing in today’s Monday Poll.

3. One thing you absolutely must finish today?
I absolutely must complete some documentation to approve a change proposed by one of my company’s suppliers.
4. What’s one lesson you wish you’d learned earlier in life?
Don’t be bashful or apologetic about being assertive. With my background being Asian, there’s always been some amount of subservience culturally expected from females. Being born and raised in the US, I’ve found it difficult w/ that upbringing to assert myself in discussions in the professional setting especially considering the technical nature of my work. It’s taken some time, but I’ve adopted the attitude that it’s not about being “one of the boys” or “one of the girls” but simply one of the many PEOPLE on the team that has value added input.
5. Would you want to see five years into your future?
I would want to see five years in to the future, but I’m of the mind that the future isn’t fixed so I’d look at it w/ the idea that I could make changes in my life to affect the outcome of my future (not necessarily specific changes, but general changes).

Katherine G says
It is always exciting breaking in new running shoes 🙂 However, I refuse to throw out my very sad looking Marine Corps Marathon Nike Zooms, and I use them for chores around the house now. I like the Mizuno Wave Runners for racing, and the Reebok Run Tones for training.
1. Mood:

~Not really. I like the ride I’m taking to get there 🙂

~Finish schoolwork before the weekend, since I’m working all weekend.
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
It is. I’m trying a new model of shoe, so hopefully my feet will like ’em. I can’t wait to get to the point where it feels like I’m wearing nothing at all! 🙂
Anywho, what are you thinking about for your hair?
Katherine G says
I am thinking about just a small change. I’ve done everything from long to short (short for me is chin-length). I get bored but have always regretted it when I’ve gotten too much length cut off. I have to keep my hair pulled back for work and I hated having to use tons of bobby pins when my hair was shorter and/or had lots of layers. Probably some more layers and shorter pieces in the front, similar to Olivia Wilde on House. Thanks for asking! It’s good to try out new models of shoes sometimes 🙂
Stef Smith says

4. What’s one lesson you wish you’d learned earlier in life? Stop stressing the small stuff, worrying about a problem is WAY worse than dealing with it head on.
5. Would you want to see five years into your future? Sure! Why not? I’m up for anything!
6. Is there anything you wish you spent less time doing? Procrastinating! I’m a big list maker, but I’m not always good about crossing stuff off that list!
7. What’s one of your makeup mottos? Experimentation rules! I wouldn’t know that black eyeliner doesn’t work on me, but blue does if I hadn’t tried it! And always always always start with a good moisturizer with SPF in it!

Happy Monday!

haha, I definitely have some anti-recommendations! I was hoping to go back for the festival this year (Advertising!) but my brother’s getting married that week.

Isn’t that Sonia brush the best? I just used mine this morning. 🙂

1. Mood: Despite an aaahmazing school music fest on Saturday, I felt bored & stressed over the weekend, and it’s rolled over to today. I had an essay due today. I have two midterms tomorrow, a YOGA midterm Wednesday (all those Sanskrit terms!), and another essay Thursday! Le sigh.
2. It’s Girl Scout Cookie season! Do you have a favorite? Haven’t eaten them in a while, but Thin Mints all the way.
3. One thing you absolutely must finish today? Studying for those midterms!
4. What’s one lesson you wish you’d learned earlier in life? One lesson I’m still trying to learn is to not be so critical of myself. I also completely agree with yours, too, Karen.
5. Would you want to see five years into your future? Nope! Takes the fun outta enjoying life.
6. Is there anything you wish you spent less time doing? Thinking about food or my skin.
7. What’s one of your makeup mottos? It washes off at the end of the day – play around with the crazy makeup!

10. Weekly goals: Not get stressed out, then enjoy the weekend, then only ONE MORE WEEK OF SCHOOL ’til Spring Break!
Karen, did you watch last night’s Walking Dead?! These last two episodes have really impressed me! We’re finally getting authentic drama/tension between the characters. My thoughts (kinda spoiler-ish):
1) The energy between Rick and Shane and their brawl was so intense and uncomfortable.
2) Beth’s suicide attempt made me want to cry, not for her (too minor of a character), but for the confusion and fearfulness she felt.
3) I disagreed with the way Andrea approached of Beth’s suicide attempt (as relevant as her intentions were), but I howled in agreement at the way she confronted Lori. Lori deserved it.

1. Mood: So tired, this rainy weather is making me sleepy. I wish I were at home reading a good book with a hot cup of tea.
2. It’s Girl Scout Cookie season! Do you have a favorite? They used to be called Samoas, but now they’re called Caramel Delights?
3. One thing you absolutely must finish today? A baby registry – so hard to decide what to put on there. Marketing companies are sure earning their money on these products. The sales people and stores make you think that you need everything!
4. What’s one lesson you wish you’d learned earlier in life? That sometimes, friendships are meant to end. Trying to make a toxic relationship work is never healthy.
5. Would you want to see five years into your future? No – I would rather be surprised.
6. Is there anything you wish you spent less time doing? Cleaning! I need to get a routine down. I just want to avoid having to clean for a couple hours over the weekend. Maybe I need a chore chart like I had when I was a kid.
7. What’s one of your makeup mottos? Less is more, it’s easier to add more later than to redo a part of face. I find this works best with eyeshadow – just go little by little.
8. Three makeup brushes you couldn’t live without: MAC 224, MAC 187, MAC 275
9. Someday I’m going to…start a blog with reviews of the books I’ve read.

Not really into them.
3. One thing you absolutely must finish today?
Finish cleaning & folding laundry. Fun huh?!
4. What’s one lesson you wish you’d learned earlier in life?
OMG, so many. I guess the big thing is learning to control your emotions & not react to everything emotionally. I cringe now when I’m around people that are all emotional & have a fit over every little thing. Also, it’s important to REALLY listen to people. I had a really bad habit of tuning people out, which is really rude & I’m pretty sure I hurt a lot of people by not listening.
5. Would you want to see five years into your future?
No.
6. Is there anything you wish you spent less time doing?
Worrying & I wish I could stop.
7. What’s one of your makeup mattos?

3. One thing you absolutely must finish today? I’m just about done sorting my room. It’s my first day off to just stay home in awhile. My room was loking pretty icky.
4. What’s one lesson you wish you’d learned earlier in life? Save more spend less.
5. Would you want to see five years into your future? I agree, only if I could have some way of changing it to make it better if I don’t like it.
6. Is there anything you wish you spent less time doing? Surfing for random things online
7. What’s one of your makeup mottos? Blush just doesn’t really go bad 😛
8. Three makeup brushes you couldn’t live without: When I was in Vegas, I was faced with this! I forgot my brushes and had to choose a few for the weekend. I chose the MAC 239 shadow brush, 129 face/blush and the 226 crease blender brush.
10. Weekly goals: Strass another pair of shoes, keep up with Bodyrock and start doing my taxes. Sigh, the last one is so not fun, but I think I’ll be getting a refund 🙂
I usually look for Reebok’s or Nike’s. Nike cross trainers fit my wide feet well and so do most Reebok’s.

4. What’s one lesson you wish you’d learned earlier in life? You shouldn't care about other peoples' opinions of you.
5. Would you want to see five years into your future? At this point of my life, it would be a little nice to know where I would be since there's going to be so much uncertainty ater graduation! I have to re-apply for pharmacy school and it would be cool to know if I get in within the next 5 years XP
6. Is there anything you wish you spent less time doing? Probably spending so much time reading random stuff on the internet as opposed to productive internet searching. This habit unfortunately comes out when I know I have a lot of work to do.

1. Mood – Is dreary a mood? It is February, almost March, in Minnesota, and here in Mankato, we haven’t had more than 6 inches of snow on the ground at a time this whole winter, which is great, I don’t really like snow, but I NEED a snow day and it doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen cuz right now it’s RAINING.
