One can never go wrong with pearls…
- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past four years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
- How do you feel about bright neon clothing?
- Your favorite lip balm?
- Note to self…
- Have you tried zip-lining?
- When was the last time you rode a bicycle?
- Which of your friends lives the farthest away from you?
- What would you do with a six-month, all-expenses-paid break from work or school?
- Something that makes you feel peaceful?
- Weekly goals:
I just finished a quick run, and I feel like I’m floating on an endorphin-fueled high. 🙂 Feels like it’s gonna be a great day!
I’m still on the fence… I noticed a ton of neon shirts, shoes and accessories at Gap and Target last weekend. Talk about flashbacks to the ’80s! I remember wearing an oversized neon green t-shirt in fourth grade that went down to about my knees and thinking I was the ish, haha! It was so obnoxiously bright that it reflected a greenish tint on my chin…
Not my best look. Still, I don’t mind the idea of wearing something bright and eye-catching, but I’d want to wear it in a way that wasn’t totally obnoxious.
Lately, I’ve been stuck on Bite Beauty Vitamin Gel in Pink Grapefruit, a moisturizing lippie that tastes just like Boton Rice Candy (NOM!).
Do whatever it takes to get to that hatha yoga class tomorrow at 6. WHATEVER IT TAKES!
No, but I’d love to! I’d like to do it somewhere that took me soaring out over the tops of tall trees.
Last June over my birthday trip to Vancouver, British Columbia. El Hub and I rented bikes and cruised around Stanley Park. So much fun!
I’m lucky that two of my closest friends, Jen and Cindy, live here in the Bay Area, and they’re both about an hour away, so I guess that makes you the farthest. 🙂
I’d sleep in and do absolutely nothing every day for the first two weeks. Then, I’d spend the next month chasing waves (always, always wanted to go on a surf trip), and then the next few months eating my way through Europe.
Not sure about the rest of the time… Six months is a long time, and I’m not sure how Tabs would feel about these plans. I mean, I know he’s doing his own thing with his kitty modeling career and probably wouldn’t want to chase me around the world, but there’s no way I could go six months away from him.
The sound of rushing water and bubbles for the first few seconds after I dive into a body of water.
Just one this week (well, two, including making it to yoga tomorrow night): don’t stop believing!
It rained buckets here all day yesterday, so no food truck time for me (boo!), but I did make it to the movies.
If you like movies with butt-kicking babes, go see Haywire (it was El Hub’s idea), directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring former MMA fighter Gina Carano, who’s like Jane Bond/Bourne in the flick, which also stars Michael Douglas, Antonio Bandaras, Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor (yay!).
It’s probably safe to assume that the Academy will not be doling out any Oscars for the film, I thought it was great. And apparently, according to El Hub (a former martial artist), Gina has top-notch fighting technique and looks tough as nails.
Of course, I wouldn’t know, because other than the correct way to make a fist, I don’t know a thing about fighting. I couldn’t appreciate the finer points of the action scenes, but I still thought it was pretty cool to see a girl action hero delivering so many beat downs.
And now today it’s back to the grind! — which also means it’s time for the Monday Poll. Do you have a minute to touch base and say hi? 🙂
- To complete the Monday Poll, just copy the following list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.

Karen says
Hi Melissa,
Woo hoo, running — one of my fave ways to exercise! Do you plan to start back up outside, or do you have a treadmill?
And haha, I feel you on endlessly needing to get pants trimmed! So glad that a lot of lines offer the “short” option for pants these days.
Melissa says
Hi Karen,
I have a treadmill and I think it’s easier on my joints. I like that I can set the incline too. Pants always make me crazy. The regular pants are too long and when I’m buying them in short they are too short. Oy! I feel like I can’t win 🙁

10. Weekly goals:
Join some kinda exercise
Karen says
Hi Swathi,
What kind of exercise classes are you thinking about joining?
Swathi Narumanchi says
I was thinking about gym. But gym alone never really helped me. I need to diet too. And yoga is too far from my place. It’s really depressing thinking about weight issues. Then there are dance classes and I always loved dancing but those again, are seasonal and unpredictable here. Mostly, just gym. A lot of cardio and some weight training.
What do you suggest Karen ? Anything you think that might help me ?

It was very rare for my choir practices to be rotten; when it was, I always told someone as that is my one place where I simply am a person, not the kid with disabilities or “issues.” I’m simply me. 1. Mood: Tired. Second semester started today, so I’m completely exhausted from processing new information.
2. How do you feel about bright neon clothing?: I like them, as long as it’s only one neon piece in an outfit, and still has a modern look to it. Nothing that looks like it’s been saved from the ’80s. …As I type this, I’m actually wearing a neon green shirt right now. =D
3. Your favorite lip balm?: Medicated Chapstick. It saves my lips from winters here in Chicago.
4. Note to self…: Must finish essays for scholarship applications. There’s no other way you can pay for school without them.
5. Have you tried zip-lining?: Yes! I went to Germany last summer for a 3-week exchange program, and we did an obstacle course that was attached to trees and was about 50 feet up in the air. When we finished the course, we would have to zip-line to get back to the ground. The harness was bad, though, since it pinched and hurt my thighs on the way down. Once I got off, I walked around like I had been kicked by a horse. All that aside, I’d really love to go zip-lining again.
6. When was the last time you rode a bicycle?: In Germany last summer. My group was supposed to do a bike tour of Munich. The problem is, I can’t really ride a bike. I can start, but then if I stop, I can’t get going again. I was able to get going for a few minutes, but then a Porsche outside a hotel almost hit me, and I wasn’t able to get started again. 10. Weekly goals: Finish scholarship applications, finish review and news story for school newspaper, finish the rest of my laundry, and finish another season of “Homicide: Life on the Street” before school really starts picking up again.
