Product testing, testing, one, two, three…
- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past four years. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
- Do you consider yourself an organized person, and if so, does it come naturally to you, or do you have to work at it?
- Your favorite hand cream?
- What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch?
- Have you ever been in a band?
- Ferris wheels: fun or frightening?
- What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner?
- How often do you heat style your hair?
- Can you eat with chopsticks?
- Weekly goals:
Better now, but last night? Apocalypse dream. Yep, probably because I watched all 12 episodes of Survivors over the span of three days. A few of the characters were even in the dream, which was very unsettling. In it, everyone knew exactly when the world would end, but no one could do anything to stop it. It was inevitable, and people spent their final moments saying goodbyes and “I love you” to each other.
For me and I bet like most people, it depends on my state of mind. When I’m happy and physically comfortable, I think I do alright, but if I’m feeling down or overstressed, I start ignoring my to-do lists and let the clutter spiral out of control.
I’ve been totally into Clarins Hand and Nail Cream ever since I got a sample size as a GWP from Nordstrom a couple months back. I love the light, fresh scent, and it absorbs into my skin quickly without leaving a greasy film behind.
If they’re on the menu, banana pancakes! Om nom nom…
Have I ever! 🙂 If school marching band counts. Oh, and once I sang with a friend’s dad’s cover band at a random wedding reception.
Fun! Especially on a clear, starry night.
I was about to say, “The ability to make a mean scrambled egg,” but seriously, I think kindness, above everything else. I was lucky to marry the kindest man I’ve ever met.
Every time I wash it, which is about three times a week ever since I cut it shorter into a Cleopatra-style bob with bangs. I use a hairdryer or flat iron to smooth out my natural waves.
It’s a phase… Before long I’m sure I’ll be all about my waves again.
I can to pick up stuff that’s pretty big and relatively easy, like sushi, but tiny things like peas? Forget it.
I made it to two yoga classes last week, so I’d like to do that again. I also want to make sure I get to bed by 10 every night and read at least 30 minutes a day.
- To complete the Monday Poll, just copy the following list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.
Hello and happy holiday, friend. How’s it going?
Tabs is in the office this morning totally micro-managing my work… Scratch here, pet there, and at one point he plopped on top of the keyboard and refused to budge until I massaged his tum. It’s a miracle I was able to finish this post!
Assuming that you don’t have a cat/dog blocking your screen or keyboard right now, do you have time to touch base with the Monday Poll? I always love to hear from you, but especially on Mondays.

BTW, I’m loving yoga these days, too.
Danielle says
No, I haven’t…but I will now! 😉
Ruchita says
Le List
1. Mood:
Not too bad. Keeping busy at work, which helps the time go by.
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person?
Yes, most of the time. I love spreadsheets and to-do lists, but sometimes I have a hard time being motivated to actually check things off my to-do list.
3. Your favorite hand cream?
Neutrogena Fast Absorbing Hand Cream. Although I’m on the lookout for one with SPF.
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch?
Belgian waffles (if it’s on the menu). Otherwise, some other kind of waffle or pancakes.
5. Have you ever been in a band?
Nope.
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary?
They’re okay. I haven’t been on one in years.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner?
I’m with you on kindness. Also having a sense of humor is a big plus.
8. How often do you heat style your hair?
Every day. I know that’s a lot, but I use heat protectant and take a break on the weekends.
9. Can you eat with chopsticks?
Not very well! The last time I ate sushi, I dropped a piece and splatterd myself with soy sauce!
10. Weekly goals:
Make a list of houses to look at with our realtor. Keep up with my menu plan so we don’t eat out as much.
Ella loves to sit with me on my computer chair. Somehow it ends up with her taking up most of the space and I’m perched on the very edge of the chair. She’s so cute I hate to make her move. 🙂
Karen says
Aw, Ella wants to be close to you! Tabs does the same thing with our computer chairs too. El Hub actually now has a separate chair next to his desk solely for Tabs… yeah, we’re crazy cat people. 🙂
Does Ella ever try to sit on your desk?
Stef Smith says
1. Mood: Relaxed! I can get used to these three day weekends!
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person? In my heart I want to be one of those people who has a place for everything and everything in it’s place! But alas, with a husband and two kids, I am not as organized as I’d like to be. But one of my New Year’s resolutions was to organize this house!
3. Your favorite hand cream? Neutrogena hand cream, the heavy duty Swiss formula. I have raggedy cuticles in the Winter, and that seems to help. It’s really heavy though, so I have to wipe it off my palms so I can open doors.
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch? Eggs, bacon, hash browns, and an English muffin! Basic but always delicious! And I’ll need a ton of ketchup for my eggs and my English muffin to be slathered in butter and strawberry jam!
5. Have you ever been in a band? I too was in marching band, I played clarinet. Love love loved it!!! My fourth grader plays clarinet now, and I couldn’t be happier!
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary? Fun, but I pretend I’m scared to make my kids laugh!
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner? A sense of humor! After 15 years of marriage, the ability to laugh has gotten more and more important! Also, having separate computers and liking different kinds of chips. Trust me on this one, fifteen years of being happily married, I know some stuff!
8. How often do you heat style your hair? It depends on what my hair style is, I have a long shag, and right now my natural waves work with the cut. Three months ago when it was shorter, I was heat styling with the flatiron every day. It’s bad too, because I have thin hair and hair dryers and flatirons cause the worst split ends. I’m due for a haircut pretty soon…
9. Can you eat with chopsticks? Yep! I bought nice chopsticks to eat with at home, it’s fun and there’s a feeling of accomplishment after a meal!
10. Weekly goals: Exercise! Clean up the kids’ room, organize my closets!
Karen says
LOL, Stef! I loved your answer to number 7. 🙂
What type of exercise are you gonna do this week? I’ve got yoga and running on my agenda.

4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch? Usually eggs over easy, turkey sausage and rye toast.
5. Have you ever been in a band? Nope. I can’t sing at all. I’d like to think that I can. I’m always singing in the car or in the house and I can’t carry a tune to save my life. My husband and son always make fun of me singing and ask what I did with the money. I’m like what money? The response, the money for the singing lessons. 3. Your favorite hand cream? I have not found it yet.
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch? I don’t know if I’ve done that, but I could go with an omelette/eggs with spinach, toasts, fruits, and juice if course.
5. Have you ever been in a band? Not really, but I used to play a large cord instrument (a national specialty), and we played together.
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary? Fun! Last April I had a ride on a huge one in Amsterdam. It was taller than the buildings! It was situated right at the heart of the city.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner? Healthy lifestyle (no tobacco or alcohol).
8. How often do you heat style your hair? I heat it every time I wash it, but never style it 🙂 ! (it’s so straight.)
9. Can you eat with chopsticks? Yes, of course. I use them many times every week.
10. Weekly goals: Nothing special.
Raven says
1. Mood: pretty chill and unproductive. I feel like a kid from dazed and confused, (minus the green!) sitting in class doing almost nothing, but sometimes ya just gotta take a minute for yourself, ya know?
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person?
Oh heeell naw! I thrive in chaos. One of my favourite quotes is from Albert Einstein; “if a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, then what is an empty desk?”… Or so thing like that.
3. Your favorite hand cream?
I bought my boyfriend’s sister and mom this really great hand cream for Christmas from chapters called “Tokyo milk”. It has a great sandalwood and Jasmine scent and I’ve been thinking of picking one up for myself ever since :p
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch?
Protien!! 🙂 lots of cottage cheese, sausage and eggs and bacon with fruit. Gotta get your vitamins in there too. Ooh and a nice big cup of green tea.
5. Have you ever been in a band?
Nope, but I’ve been in choirs, and have jammed and performed with many different people and instruments.
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary?
Fun! Especially when you’re with someone who’s scared and the bench rocks when you’re at the top, haha.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner?
A good balance of intelligence, humor, and ettiquite. Knowing how to have fun and laugh, but also knowing how to have serious conversations and how to adress people with proper manners.
8. How often do you heat style your hair?
Since I made the leap to going rihanna red, as least often as I can :p I try to not even wash it, so that means a lot of dry shampoo, backcombing, and various types of braiding to give it volume and texture without jeopardising my vibrant color.
9. Can you eat with chopsticks?
Like a mofo! My dad (sushi freak) taught me at a young age, so I’m pretty good with em. Like an extension of my hand.
10. Weekly goals:
Get to classes and complete missing work, workout at least 3x this week, put together two new outfits, SAVE MONEY!
Kim says
1. Mood: Good!
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person? Oh, gosh, no. Things used to run almost perfectly because I’ve always had a great memory. Now that I’m getting old and senile, lots of things fall through the cracks. 🙂

4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch? Either an omelet or poached eggs with an English Muffin or bagel and bacon.

6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary? Low key fun.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner? Like you, I think it’s a kind heart.
8. How often do you heat style your hair? Everyday. Hopefully I won’t look like the Scarecrow or Kojak in 10 years.
9. Can you eat with chopsticks? Yes, but I’m not sure I hold them the right way. Still, whatever works. 🙂
10. Weekly goals: Not freeze to death. It was minus 10 F this weekend. And we spent most of it in ice rinks, to boot. Since then, I’ve looked like a ball of fleece and wool!
Megan says
1. Mood: Whipped. The terrible twos have hit my little one, and I’m wondering how early is too early to crack open a bottle of wine.
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person? Not so much! Well, I know where things are when I need to find them. But they’re probably in a pile on the table.
3. Your favorite hand cream? Plain old Cetaphil lotion.
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch? Hash browns. Not home fries, not fried potatoes…greasy, julienned hash browns. And orange juice. So it’s healthy.
5. Have you ever been in a band? I used to sing at the church I grew up at, but that’s about it.
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary? Terrifying.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner? Compassion. For yourself, your partner, and those you’ve never met. Animals, too.

9. Can you eat with chopsticks? Sure can. Even rice!
10. Weekly goals: Practice some new volleyball drills nightly…keep the wine bottle closed until at least 5pm…get my great room carpet cleaned.
Melissa says
1. Mood: So lazy. Need to take down holiday decorations but I’m just not feeling it.
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person?: For the most part. I bought a filing cabinet for myself for Christmas to aid in organization lol.
3. Your favorite hand cream?: L’Occitane lavender cream, though the CaudalÃe hand/cuticle cream I picked up from Sephora last week is pretty nice.
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch?: PalaÄinka! Basically the Croatian/Serbian version of crepes.
5. Have you ever been in a band?: Yes. Orchestras, jazz bands, rock bands, noise bands.. the list goes on.
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary?: Fun! My all time favorite is the one on Coney Island.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner?: Trustworthy.
8. How often do you heat style your hair?: Never. My hair is pin straight and refuses to hold a curl no matter how much I try, so I let it do it’s own thing. Don’t even use a blow dryer!
9. Can you eat with chopsticks?: Yeah. Not my favorite, but it’s do-able.
10. Weekly goals: Cut of 15 inches (!!!) of my hair for Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I haven’t cut it (with the exception of trimming my bangs at home) in over 3 years. I think it’s time for a change. This will be my 5th time donating!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Linnea says
1. Mood: Okay. It is frighteningly cold here (-20F, -28 C, with windchill, I think its around -30 C). So all I want to do is snuggle in bed with a good book and a cup of tea. Unfortunately, work has to be done, and class 1 of a workout class is tonight, which I’m trying to convince myself to attend.
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person? When I have the time and patience, yes. I’m really good at organizing things. Keeping them organized? Ha.
3. Your favorite hand cream? I recently tried L’occitane’s hand cream last night, as my paws feel like I was running them along a cheese grater (I have no idea what the heck I did!), I tried Body Shop Body Butter, a really nice cheap handcream that smells like chocolate(usually works), Normal St. Ives body lotion.. nothing helped until I pulled out the big guns of L’occitane. I did notice it took a little while to sink in, but I was desperate! No greasy residue though, which was lovely.
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch? I have hard times ordering food, but usually crepes or something with hashbrowns will fit the bill really nicely! My favourite breaky place has chocolate french toast(made out of chocolate bread) with grilled banana. Oh wow.
5. Have you ever been in a band? Yes. Well.. school nerdy band count? And when I say school band I mean.. every band that was in my school. Jazz, Concert, Orchestra, as well as just regular class band. It was a great place to be, really amazing people and a great environment especially in the ridiculous soul searching episode that high school is.
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary? Fun? I don’t think I’ve ever been on one. They seem fun though.. I’m not a ride person, but I think I could handle that.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner? Consideration. one of my favourite things about the boy is how considerate he is. He is very aware of how I’m feeling a situation and will try to make it better if it isn’t. He is constantly aware of things that he can do to make my life easier. I always struggle to describe how he is and what consideration means, but it definitely encompasses kindness as well as a big dose of thoughtfulness.
8. How often do you heat style your hair? maybe once a week? If its super cold (like today), I need to blow dry the mane so it doesn’t freeze. Otherwise, I usually let it air dry. The curling iron or straightening iron usually gets pulled out once every two weeks though.
9. Can you eat with chopsticks? Yes. When we were growing up, a friend of the family would take us for fancy Chinese food dinner.. Well we weren’t allowed to eat with forks (a rule by our parents), so you learned chopsticks might fast. Its a great skill to have, and I really enjoy eating with them now.
10. Weekly goals: go to the work out class tonight! Get through more than half of Jillian’s ab workout (I only made it 10 minutes last time..), drink a lot of water, read a bunch, cook some full meals, as well as meet with the mortgage specialist on thursday.
Sunny says
1. Mood: Pretty good! I got to see the family I used to live with for the first 3 years I was in Belgium, have a facial with the mum and the sister, and play with the family dog!
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person? Oh God am I not! I am so painfully organized that I probably can’t fall asleep if I know something’s lying where it’s not supposed to! It’s boarders on OCD though, so I’m trying to relax more!
3. Your favorite hand cream? Caudalie hand and nail cream (light yet effective, for daytime), Jurlique rose hand cream (for nighttime), and L’Occitane shea butter hand cream (both daytime and nighttime). I’m really digging their 2011 limited edition hand creams. All three smells (coca flower, desert rose, hibiscus flower) are delicious!
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch? Croissant or pain au chocolat. I love pancakes but you don’t really get them here in Europe, so I make my own (banana pancakes when I have ripe bananas in the house).
5. Have you ever been in a band? Nope, but I was a choir girl for years and years!
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary? Fun! I’m not afraid of heights, and I love the view you get with ferris wheels!
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner? Kindness. I don’t see myself being with someone who is unkind!
8. How often do you heat style your hair? About 3 times a week, every time after I shampoo my hair. I got a perm, so I have to put some mousse in my hair and dry it with a diffuser.
9. Can you eat with chopsticks? Despite the fact that I’m from Taiwan, I’m not very good with it. I mean I can, but I actually don’t hold my chopsticks right. I prefer knives, forks, and spoons on most occasions…
10. Weekly goals: Buckle down and work on translating the book I’m supposed to be done with by the end of the month. It’s just so dense and mind-numbing… huh
Suri says
1. Mood: Oh so lazy on this day off!
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person? For the most part yes. Even my mess has some kind of order and I know where to find what I need.
3. Your favorite hand cream? It’s a tie between Avon’s silicone glove and Bliss high intensity hand cream. Both sink into my hands quickly, don’t leave them greasy and can withstand a hand washing or 2.
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch? scrambled or hard boiled eggs, wheat toast/bagel and coffee..yum
5. Have you ever been in a band? No lol
6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary? totally scary because I’m afraid of heights. I did go on the one in Coney Island and after a few minutes of total terror it was cool. Then it was over.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner? Trust. You must be able to trust that person or you won’t have a solid relationship.
8. How often do you heat style your hair? Once a week if even that. I am so lazy when it comes to my hair styling.
9. Can you eat with chopsticks? I can probably get 2 pieces of food in my mouth with them so can I say yes? 😉
10. Weekly goals: Get back into a work routine-with tons of outside trainings and a few days off I am kinda out the loop. Please keep working out 2-3 times a week, tracking my food, and drinking lots of water.
Heidi says
1. Mood:

Katherine G says
1. Mood:
~Content. Got a lot of stuff on my To-Do list done, and contemplating doing some baking later.
2. Do you consider yourself an organized person?
~I do, but when I get busy being organized tends to go on the wayside. I’ve gotten much better about throwing things out that I don’t need as I’ve gotten older.
3. Your favorite hand cream?
~Usually whatever I use as body lotion, but lately I’ve used a Neutrogena Fast Absorb one. Or the hand creams around the ER’s I work in.
4. What do you usually order when you go out for breakfast or brunch?
~Strawberry cheesecake pancakes if they have them at IHOP, and for lunch depends on where I go. 6. Ferris wheels: fun or scary?
~Fun, and romantic.
7. What’s one of the most important traits to have in a partner?
~For me, it was accepting me for who I am, everything. My fiance is a very kind and loving person. We would go to the moon for each other. He truly is the perfect man for me in every way because he loves everything about me (even my flaws!). A lot of things that would piss off most other women about him I find adorable and endearing (like the fact he likes to peel off his socks with his feet and leave them in front of the couch…).
8. How often do you heat style your hair?
~Depends, usually once a week. Since I have long, thick hair, and it’s dyed red, I don’t need to shampoo it a lot. I tend to flat iron it when the waves are being ornery, and I blow dry it if I’m not staying home for the day.

That’s really freaky because I’ve been having a lot of apocalypse dreams lately, since the New Year I’ve had at least three so far! I think the 2012 hysteria about this being the final year of life, etc. has probably seeped into my subconscious LOL because I haven’t been watching any apocalyse movies or tv programs, so I can’t imagine why I’ve been having them. Fascinating 🙂
