- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past three years, which I guess makes this somewhere around Vol. 185. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
- How do you feel about polka dots?
- If you could live a life of luxury in any city in the world, which city would it be?
- Your childhood nickname(s)?
- What are the makeup/beauty products you use most often?
- Your makeup motto?
- Describe your personal makeup aesthetic:
- Do you wear mascara on your lower lashes?
- Do you have a secret weapon?
- Weekly goals:
A little frazzled. I got a late start this morning, but I’m trying to make the most of having to play catch-up on a Monday morning. It’s all we can do, ya know?
It depends. I’m down with dots if they’re tiny, and the color palette’s neutral, like black and white, navy and white, or tan and white.
Honolulu! Perfect weather year round, great food and surfing without a wetsuit. Heaven.
My folks (still) call me anak ko (ah-nock-ko), which means “my child” in Tagalog, or sometimes Kate or Katie. My brother calls me ate (pronounced ah-tee), which means “older sister” in Tagalog.
Hmm… Probably my Shu Uemura Lash Curler or the MAC 226 Angled Brush (for filling in my brows).
I have a few (have fun no matter what, makeup isn’t permanent, etc.), but my favorite is probably “go drag or go home!” I think it sums up how I feel about mascara. I love big, bold in-your-face lash looks.
I love classic, elegant makeup with a twist — something like a strong cat eye or a bold lip.
Sometimes. It depends on how much time I have to get ready. When I’m running behind, I’ll skip it.
Actually, I have 10 of them. My toes! I have pretty great toe-eye coordination and can use them for good — things like picking up pennies and pencils from the floor — or for evil, like pinching people.
Gotta keep it simple this week, so I’m sticking to healthful daily goals like eating salads for lunch and exercising for at least 60 minutes every day.
Happy Monday, holmes! I hope your day got off to a good start.
If you have a moment, drop in and let me know how you’re doing. Have you ever done the Monday Poll?

2. How do you feel about polka dots? I like them. Small dots, no dots on white…in vintage-y type dresses.
3. If you could live a life of luxury in any city in the world, which city would it be? I’d take Cleveland. I love it here…having a few million would make it even better!
4. Your childhood nickname(s)? Oh God. Okay, I think the wound has scarred enough for me to share this with the internet:
When I was in 6th grade, I was the new kid in a gifted program. A program where all the other classmates had been together since kindergarten. I was awkward, shy, a teacher’s pet, and definitely not up for the social challenge of breaking into the cliques. I was thinking of cutting my hair, and I loved Kerri Strug’s short pixie (it was the year she vaulted on her sprained ankle; almost everyone knew who she was). I had these visions of showing up to school with a new, cute haircut, and suddenly being not-invisible. Unfortunately, i didn’t take a picture with me to the stylist. Who was the only person on earth not to have watched Olympic gymnastics that year. And I didn’t know the style was called a pixie. I fumbled through an explanation of what I wanted…only to end up with an Amish-style, ends-curled-under bowl cut. There was no way to style this baby decently. None. I didn’t think it was completely awful until I got to school the next day and was greeted with, “Megan! Your hair! You look like a MUSHROOM. Ohmigod, I’m going to call you Mushy the Mushroom!” Well, I wasn’t invisible anymore, but I was a freakin’ mushroom. I eventually made friends, but that gifted program stayed together through senior year of high school. For six years, I was Mushy the Mushroom. My yearbook is signed, “To Mushy the Mushroom.”
5. What are the makeup/beauty products you use most often? My MAC 226 for brows with my Anastasia brow powder. Oh, and lemon juice! Every night, under moisturizer. Exfoliates, kills zits. Amazing.
6. Your makeup motto? “No such thing as a comfort zone!” Keep expanding what you play with; your face is your art!
7. Your personal makeup aesthetic? Bold eyes, chap stick on lips. I love bright colors!
8. Do you wear mascara on your lower lashes? Sometimes. When I feel really put together.
9. Do you have a secret weapon? Mine, also, are my toes. I pick up stuff, put stuff down, tickle with them…I have ridiculous monkey toes.

8. Do you wear mascara on your lower lashes? Sometimes
9. Do you have a secret weapon? My mouth

2. How do you feel about polka dots? Can’t do it. Feels too clownish to me, like I should be in the Big Top.
3. If you could live a life of luxury in any city in the world, which city would it be? Cape Town. It’s honestly the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen. The only drawback is cold Atlantic Ocean beaches, so if I could make a simple trade for the Indian Ocean, that’s what I’d do.
4. Your childhood nicknames? Ace, because I was the first-born and a high achiever. I was always glad I had a slightly badass nickname and not something like Princess or Babydoll.

3. If you could live a life of luxury in any city in the world, which city would it be? Oh, gosh… I’ll have to visit many, many more before I can say for sure. If pressed, I’d say Rome right now.
4. Your childhood nickname(s)? Kimmy, Kitty.
5. What are the makeup/beauty products you use most often? I just had to laugh. You know it’s the same 5 products everyday! It’s really kind of sad.

7. Your personal makeup aesthetic? Very plain with a bit of emphasis on my eyes (which just means liner, mascara and brows filled).
8. Do you wear mascara on your lower lashes? No, it makes me feel like Clockwork Orange.
9. Do you have a secret weapon? HAHA! Nothing I can think of, but your Evil Toes made me laugh.
10. Weekly goals: Just keep swimming, just keep swimming. Work and home have been crazy busy so I really need to focus on not letting myself sit and relax when I have a free minute. Because that will turn into not being motivated to get things done like cooking, cleaning and yard work; then I’ll have to be cranky with myself. 🙂
