  4. Being too lax about exercise. I gotta get back into doing it almost every day because when I do I’m less moody.

  6. Red, the smoother the better. No bold tannins for this girl, thanks.

  7. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen?
  8. Aww, man, I read tons of cheesy thrillers and totally devoured anything by V.C. Andrews (seriously, I read Flowers in the Attic eight times!) or Dean Koontz. I also went through a Harlequin phase, which I blame on Suzie, my clarinet playing friend from band. She carried romance books with her at all times and would lend them out like a library.

  9. Favorite way to exercise?
  10. Probably running because it doesn’t take much time, but if they were easier (or possible) to do at home maybe dancing, swimming or surfing.

  11. Do you wake up to an alarm clock?
  12. Yep! If left to my own devices and not electronic ones I’d sleep until at least 9 or 10.

  13. Have you ever baked a pie?
  14. Once in 2002, and I remember it like it was yesterday… It was a delicious blueberry and peach creation based on a recipe I’d gotten from my roommate, who was from the South. I remember being shocked at how many sticks of butter I used!

  15. Do you have a temper?
  16. It depends. If I’m exhausted, then yes.

  17. Favorite Halloween candy?
  18. Snickers (they really satisfy)! And throw in a handful of candy corn while you’re at it, please. Thank you.

  20. To write an entry in my journal every day, to keep my desk organized, to step away from the computer at 6PM (sooo hard to do!) and to meet a friend for lunch.

      Hi Lisa,

      Have you ever tried using those cuticle oil pens from Sephora? I find that when I keep my cuticles moisturized the urge to pick at them lessens.

  4. hi karen! it’s been a while since i commented… lots have changed, including setting up a professional makeup art website (www.ineskbeauty.com), getting a 2nd kitty, finding a boyfriend, and starting a new (but horrible) job!

    1. Mood: a bit gloomy – it’s raining and i’m scheduled for a 4pm-11pm shift at my current dead end job, which is precisely a job, not my ideal career.

    2. Do you have any bad habits you’d like to break?
    picking at the cuticles of my nails/peeling off chipping nails, picking at split ends (i pick at things a lot)

    3. Red wine or white?
    red! give me a nice chianti anytime!

    4. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen?
    gone with the wind and hamlet.

    5. Favorite way to exercise?
    dancing. latin, ballroom and argentine tango specifically.

    yes. i have 3 alarms, staggered at 15 minute intervals, because i keep turning them off, not putting it on snooze.

    yes. i bake and cook a lot in general!

    yes. but my bark is worse than my bite though!

    1. Mood: Allergic. Weed pollen count is very high today.
    2. Do you have any bad habits you’d like to break? Procrastinating!
    3. Red wine or white? Neither.
    4. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen? As a young teen, I loved Christopher Pike. As an older teen, I liked John Sandford novels. I read about half a dozen while I was home with mono!
    5. Favorite way to exercise? Mountain biking. Which pretty much doesn’t happen in Houston.
    6. Do you wake up to an alarm clock? Sorta — I usually wake up a minute or two before it.
    7. Have you ever baked a pie? Nope. Team Cake here.
    8. Do you have a temper? Not really. I get annoyed, but seldom angry.
    9. Favorite Halloween candy? Have to have some candy corn. Was always excited to get Reeses cups and those fruit-flavored Tootsie Rolls.

    1. Mood: HAPPY – Giants go to the World Series and I saw Mary J. Blige at the SF Center Nordstrom yesterday – not a bad weekend at all!

    2. Do you have any bad habits you’d like to break? Sticking to my healthy eating habits and when I pay off a big chunk of a credit card – don’t use the card!!!

    3. Red wine or white? I’ve been drinking White lately but I’ll always be a Red wine girl, especially with Winter right around the corner.

    4. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen? I was a beatnik fan – I loved reading Kerouac’s “On the Road”

    5. Favorite way to exercise? I loved the Bar Method but it’s a pricey habit to have so I’ve been doing lots of running. My goal is to run the Bay to Breakers next May.

    6. Do you wake up to an alarm clock? I try to – I snooze at least 4x before actually getting up!

    7. Have you ever baked a pie? I bake cookies, brownies, layer cakes but for some reason pie dough worries me. I did attempt it and my dough actually came out pretty good!

    8. Do you have a temper? Yes, it’s amazing that I still have a husband!

    9. Favorite Halloween candy? I have a fondness for little Nestle crunch bars!

    10. Weekly goals: Run 4x this week – I’m now up to running 3 miles. I’m going to try to take advantage of the good weather and run along the Embarcadero. I want to give props to my SF Giants and run to the Ball Park!

    Calming down. Was extremely stressed and overwhelmed by my group members because we’re running an experiment tomorrow and there are some kinks that needed to be ironed out. It’s all over for now, though, but I’m still hyped from the stress and adrenaline!

    2. Do you have any bad habits you’d like to break?
    I’d like to be less OCD please 🙁

    3. Red wine or white?
    Generally red.

    4. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen?
    I read comics such as Archie, magazines such as Cleo and Harry Potter books! I love books though, and generally go through any books I could get.

    5. Favorite way to exercise?
    Treadmill! Or sit ups.

    6. Do you wake up to an alarm clock?
    Every morning that I have to wake up at certain times.

    7. Have you ever baked a pie?
    Not exactly into baking- I don’t know why! But I do love cooking.

    Yes, and a pretty bad one at that 🙁 I’ve mellowed down over the years though, thankfully, and am still trying my best to not let it get the best of me.

    We don’t get much choices here, but I’d like Toblerones 😀

    Get our experiment done tomorrow, get the assignment due next week done by this week, have progress on thesis, go for a pedicure with Mum, relax and enjoy as much as I can because it’s going to be a rather hectic week!

    4. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen? I also read all the V.C Andrews books about a million times. Always have been a huge Stephen King fan and started the Anne Rice books when I was 16.

    5. Favorite way to exercise? I absolutely hate exercising, so I don’t have a favorite form. I wish I did!

    6. Do you wake up to an alarm clock? Yes otherwise my natural waking time is around 9:30

    7. Have you ever baked a pie? Yes but only pumpkin and pecan

    8. Do you have a temper? Not really. Certain things can make me turn into the Hulk though, like people mistreating animals or people stealing from me

    1. Mood: I’m not sure how I can be antsy and tired at the same time, but I am.
    2. Do you have any bad habits you’d like to break? Oh, my. Where to begin? I’m going to go with the 2 that seem to be the worst lately. Overeating and daydreaming.

    4. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen? I’ve always been a classics kind of girl. I think my fave as a teenager was Wuthering Heights.
    5. Favorite way to exercise? Run, but like you it’s mostly for the convenience (and the high calorie burn).
    6. Do you wake up to an alarm clock? Absolutely. If I didn’t, I’d sleep all day!
    7. Have you ever baked a pie? Yes, for all holidays. I’m not too into desserts though, so it’s not something I do without a special occasion.
    8. Do you have a temper? I would say that I’m impatient and emotional, for sure. I guess I have a temper with certain people, in certain situations. Not much of an answer. 🙂
    9. Favorite Halloween candy? I’m not a candy person but I’ll say Smarties (Canada’s version of M&Ms, not our US sweet-tart candy). I’ll usually make the short trip across the border this time of year to get some Canadian candy staples: Smarties, Aero bars, Coffee Crisp.

        This will sound ridiculous, but I love running to Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti (from Rocky). 🙂

        I definitely have to run to music and usually change up my playlist often so I don’t get bored, but lately it’s been some Lady Gaga, a few harder faves (Striken by Disturbed, Re-Education through Labor by Rise Against). A few pop songs – K$sha, Paramore and Kevin Rudolf’s Let It Rock. A little old school “club” with S’Express, James Brown is Dead and O! Fortuna, plus Sir Mix A Lot (Baby Got Back and Jump On It). Cypress Hill’s Jump Around, the Cult’s Fire Woman and some P!nk. If it’s upbeat, it’ll usually work for me, at least in the short term. Oh, Wham’s I’m Your Man and the Weather Girls’ It’s Raining Men. My faves right now are Buckcherry’s Crazy B*tch and Poison’s Talk Dirty to Me, but that’s just because they remind me of dancing up a storm with my friends. 🙂

    4. Fave teen book? I can only vaguely remember being really into Lord of the Rings.

    Overwhelmed with everything going on at work and the things I have to do to get ready for my upcoming trip (China in two weeks!).

    2. Do you have any bad habits you’d like to break?
    Being OCD about little things, especially neatness. I was diagnosed with actual OCD as a child, and it didn’t interfere with my life, but sometimes I can drive people crazy with the constant organizing. I have to be more sensitive to that!

    3. Red wine or white?
    Don’t really like alcohol of any kind — I can never get over the alcohol-ish taste, somehow. I know I’m a freak.

    4. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen?
    The Scarlet Pimpernel and the Three Musketeers — in my imagination I was the pimpernel or one of the musketeers, much more daring and bold than I ever was in my nerdy real life.

    5. Favorite way to exercise?
    Tough one to pick, but if I had to, I’d say kickboxing. It’s a great way to work out stresses and frustrations!

    6. Do you wake up to an alarm clock?
    Yes — I start work at 6:00 A.M. so I need the alarm clock to get me up early enough. But once I’m up, I’m okay. I’m disgustingly cheerful in the morning.

    Yes, but I prefer other things like tarts, cakes, cookies, muffins — easier to make for me.

    8. Do you have a temper?
    Yes, but I bottle it in until it gets to be too much and then I go kickboxing and let it all out :).

    I don’t celebrate Halloween, and I’m not really a candy or chocolate fan — now I feel like an even bigger freak :).

    Finish all the purchases/plans I need to make for my trip; do something nice for my poor neglected hubby :).

        This is so late you probably won’t even read it, but I’m going for fun. I’ve been to Asia several times (Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong), but several of my close friends haven’t, and they’ve been bugging me to go with them for ages so I can be unofficial tour guide. I finally gave in, so we’re leaving in two weeks! Hubby is being very understanding about being left at home.

        YOU NEED:
        sugar
        1 can of condensed milk
        1 can of evaporated milk
        2 whole eggs
        4 egg yolks
        half a teaspoon of vanilla.

        Put sugar with a lil bit of water in a pan. Leave it until it’s light brown and then pour it in a tin pan (u know the oval ones they use in Pinas, heh) and let it cool. Get a strainer and pour the mix in the tin pan. You can either steam it or place in a water bath and put in the oven for 400-450 degrees for an hour.

        Give it a go and let me know how u like it.

      Have you tried having lip balm or something near you? Whenever you feel like biting your lip, apply lip balm instead. You might go through a lot of lip balm, but your lips will be healthy!

    2. Do you have any bad habits you’d like to break? In idle moments I will go through my hair for random split ends and cut them off. I also tend to search for weird random things on Ebay all too often. Both are big wastes of time :$
    3. Red wine or white? This is where a university level wine (science credited!!) course really helps 😉 Totally depends on what I am eating and quality of the wines available. For white wines, I prefer Gewurztraminer or Riesling whenever possible. I typically stay away from Chardonnay though. For dessert, a good ice wine or port is great. For red wines, I like Shiraz or Bordeaux. A high quality, flavorful and complex wine can totally make a meal.
    4. Your favorite book(s) when you were a teen? Romance and vampire novels. Yea, crazy mix!
    5. Favorite way to exercise? I hop on the elliptical for 30 minutes. Then I circuit train with weights for an hour. Builds muscle so I can burn my calories. Then if I feel up to it, I hop on either the bike or treadmill for another 30 minutes. That’s usually 3x a week when I’m not sick.
    6. Do you wake up to an alarm clock? Yes, otherwise I’d sleeping in til 8.
    7. Have you ever baked a pie? Yes, apple, blueberry, peach or whatever else happens to be available.
    8. Do you have a temper? Of course, depends on what’s going on and how much stress I have
    9. Favorite Halloween candy? M&M’s
    10. Weekly goals: Stay healthy, workout at least 3x, blog more and bake some pumpkin brownies.

    7. Have you ever baked a pie? yes a strawberry rhubarb with crumble top for my boyfriend who didnt even try any!! and i ended up eating it all
    8. Do you have a temper? yes when im sleepy for sure and sometimes even when im not
    9. Favorite Halloween candy?.. i love candy corn! i love chocolate so anything with it in it, except dark chocolate.

        PS i love your blog and your cat Tabs, well my boyfriends brother has a cute tabby too named Roxas and i have adopted him as my own now and I kinda think there long distant cousins in the tabby family

          Maybe Tabs and Roxas are long lost cousins, LOL!

          I was actually more of a dog person when Tabs adopted me… he changed everything though. It’s amazing how much joy a cat can bring to your life. 🙂

            That was the same way I felt but my boyfriend got his first cat Griever which is a maine coon/tabby and I was totally a dog person, i hated cats. But now I love them and having Roxas around makes everything better makes things happier because he is so cute and funny 🙂

            I’ve heard Maine Coons are really good cats — good disposition, very sweet, interested in people! Was he huge?

            Anyway, Tabs is our (me & El Hub’s) Roxas. He always makes us laugh with his crazy antics!

            No, he is a standard size I think, but he has a baby face and a big poofy fur coat. Roxas on the other hand is big not fat big but like 16lbs ish but he is super cute too and when he was smaller his head was bigger than his body so we gave him the nickname “big head”. Now his nickname is beast, he runs up and down the stairs all crazy pouncing on stuff

    lots, especially lately – I’m bad with my diet and exercise lately and I feel like it is catching up with me.

    You KNOW it was those R.L. Stine books – awesome awesome awesome spookyness!

    I actually like running, but it has to be outside and completely on my own. I’m bad at it, but I kinda like it. Cross country Skiing is also one amazing workout.

    Yes, the real one, and my 6 month old lab telling me to let him out.

    yep – not good at pies. I’m MUCH better at cakes, cupcakes, breads.

    I do – but I think I’m getting better at being patient and being able to get my point across most of the time in a way that is more verbally effective that flipping out.

    Wow – too many too mention. I love kit kats, 100 grands, almond joys, skittles, bottle caps. IXNAY on the candy corn, circus peanuts, anything with marzapan or marshmallow. eew.

    go to the dog park at least 3 more times this week, do well on homework, continue packing and cleaning for our move.

    6. Do you wake up to an alarm clock? Eh, not really. My body is WIDE awake around 3:30AM. I have an alarm set on my phone for 7AM but I never hear it because I’m already awake.
    7. Have you ever baked a pie? Yes but I’ve never made crust from scratch. I think I’m a little scarred by a Martha Stewart segment which discussed all the technicalities of using ice water, not over mixing, etc. I just buy pie crust from the store now, It’s much easier!
    8. Do you have a temper? Yes, but I also have a lot of patience before the temper is unleashed.
    9. Favorite Halloween candy? I love candy corn. It’s addicting!
    10. Weekly goals: Follow through with C25K for the rest of the week, plan Thanksgiving dinner for the family, and, oh yeah, pack and move to our new place!
