Totally lovin’ Warby Parker…
- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past three years, which I guess makes this somewhere around Vol. 191. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
- If you could dine (for free) anywhere in the world tonight, where would it be?
- Do you have any siblings?
- If your pets could talk, what would they say about you?
- Which one do you follow most often, your heart or your head?
- What are three songs on your road trip playlist?
- Would you consider yourself renowned or famous for anything in particular?
- Your favorite place for dessert?
- Scariest movie you’ve ever seen?
- Weekly goals:
Happy but still pretty tired. I got in late last night from Santa Monica, and as much as I enjoy traveling, the actual traveling part of it really wears me out. This pumpkin chai latte from Starbucks should help, though.
Tonight, more than New Orleans, Barcelona, Tuscany, Buenos Aires, Paris, Vancouver or Hong Kong, I’d choose my parents’ house in Union City, California, the sinigang capital of my world. 🙂
Sinigang is a filipino sour tamarind stew made with rice, vegetables and fish, or another meat, and I couldn’t imagine anything better than having a big bowl of it for dinner tonight before curling up on the coach in front of the TV.
I do. I’m the eldest of two. My baby brother, who isn’t much of a baby anymore, turned 30 this year.
Probably, “B*tch, where’s my gravy?”
My heart. I’m a firm believer in going with your gut.
Roam by the B52s, Interstate Love Song by Stone Temple Pilots and Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Starting Something.
Well, folks do like my blueberry peach cobbler. Oh, and I’m pretty famous among my friends and family for being able to go from breezy to bratty in 10 seconds or less.
Without a doubt, Pinkberry! I miss it already…
GOOD GRIEF! I wish I could go back in time to when I was four years old and un-see Salem’s Lot. Never having seen that movie would have saved me many a sleepless night.
Get back into my exercise routine before I fall out of the habit entirely, get back into the habit of eating salads a few times per week, make some headway on my reading list, and smile! 🙂
Hey, friend. I’m glad to be typing this from my desk at home and not from my laptop in a hotel room. Things were kind of hectic over the weekend with The Beauty Social stuff, and I’m still getting back on track.
I think the beauty blogging panel went well yesterday, and I’m happy to report that I did NOT fall walking up to the stage, so that’s one recurring nightmare that has yet to transpire in real life. I’m afraid, though, that my bangs looked a little too Lloyd Christmassy… More on that in a few.
If you have a minute, stop by and say hi in this week’s Monday Poll. I feel like we haven’t talked in ages.

Such a diva sometimes 🙂

10. Weekly goals: Study for a big exam happening next week, get some researching done for a project, then celebrate my 20th birthday on Friday with my folks who are coming to my school! Yay!
Karen! Walking Dead time! Some things:
1) I was in near TEARS the first time Herschel tries to pry the fragments out of Carl, and the poor thing is in so much f-ing pain!
2) I am liking Daryl’s character more and more each episode.
3) Wasn’t Lori acting like such a b*tch toward Herschel? I mean, I understand, woman, but you should be grateful he’s some type of doctor at all!
4) How in the world are Shane & Otis going to get out of there?! I have a love/hate thing for the suspense Walking Dead brings to each episode.
Kimberly says
Oh man, I’m glad you brought up The Walking Dead!
1. I literally started sobbing during that moment, and pretty much continued crying in every seen Carl was in (especially when Lori first saw him)! It’s so heartbreaking that this had to happen to him during the only good moment he could have in such a crazy world. 🙁
2. I’m in love with Daryl this season! His character has grown so much, and is actually turning in to a “good” guy. Who would’ve thought? I’m really excited to see where his character is going.
3. Where do you think Sophia is??! It’s been driving me crazy wondering!
Katie says
Hey Kimberly!
1) I don’t think that Daryl was “bad” in the first place, just flawed, you know? He also had every right to be furious and act out when he lost his brother (even if said brother is horrible). Being a part of the group is forcing him to stay rational while everyone is slowly going insane!
2) I have the feeling Sophia is alive, but I am so with you on the curiosity! Like I said, the suspense is what I love and hate about this show.
Ruchita says
1. Mood:
Kinda bummed. I had a missed opportunity today that I regret not taking. Oh well, just gotta move on.
2. If you could dine (for free) anywhere in the world tonight, where would it be?
Probably also my parent’s house. I love my mom’s Indian cooking.
3. Do you have any siblings?
Yep, I have a brother who’s 9 years younger than me.
4. If your pets could talk, what would they say about you?
Mingus is already quite a talker and has all sorts of funny meows – he would probably complain about us not letting him outside more often.
Ella is a sweetheart and would (hopefully) tell us how awesome we are for all the cuddles we give her.
5. Which one do you follow most often, your heart or your head?
Hm, probably my heart.
6. What are three songs on your road trip playlist?
This is a hard one to narrow to three songs – I’d have to pick the entire Joshua Tree album from U2.
7. Would you consider yourself renowned or famous for anything in particular?
I make some pretty good cupcakes.
8. Your favorite place for dessert?
Graeter’s Ice Cream – I think it’s regional to the midwest area.
9. Scariest movie you’ve ever seen?
The Exorcist. That crab-walking scene freaks me out every time.
10. Weekly goals:
Stick with the Jillian Michaels DVD and try to work out 3-4 times this week – refer to items 7 & 8. 🙂
Have a great Monday!
Trude says
1. Mood: Head is hurtin’ today, but not a full-blown migraine so I’m thankful I can keep working.

7. Would you consider yourself renowned or famous for anything in particular? Being the Crazy Planning Girl on trips or for events. 🙂
8. Your favorite place for dessert? My mom’s kitchen.
9. Scariest movie you’ve ever seen? Amityville (the remake). Ryan Reynolds was amazing, but there’s a reason I don’t see scary movies, and it doesn’t matter how old I get!
10. Weekly goals: Process shelter dog photos, and pack for my day job’s conference!
Megan says
1. Mood: Great! I just found a limited-edition eyeshadow set that “sold out” awhile ago…luckily a friend of mine chanced on a counter that had one!
2. If you could dine (for free) anywhere in the world tonight, where would it be? Ooh. I’m gonna go with Michael Symon’s Lola…I don’t feel like traveling far. 🙂
3. Do you have any siblings? My little bro just turned 27 today!
4. If your pets could talk, what would they say about you? Probably along the lines of “Get this toddler out of my face, would you? Oh, and you’re behind on the daily snuggle quotient. Get on it.”
5. Which one do you follow most often, your heart or your head? Working on head!
6. What are three songs on your road trip playlist? Tool’s “Sober,” Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life,” and Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die.”
7. Would you consider yourself renowned or famous for anything in particular? Among the fam and shelter colleagues, I’m a Cat Whisperer. Which, I suppose, is better than Crazy Cat Lady.
8. Your favorite place for dessert? Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream shop! The ice cream in my freezer is homemade caramel apple cider with toasted almonds and Jack Daniels.
9. Scariest movie you’ve ever seen? Well, I know after I see a scary movie I’m sleeping with lights on for at least a week. So I avoid them. Except that time in college my RA friends made me watch the new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” I spent the whole time crying from fear and when I went back to my dorm, I fell asleep to “Sesame Street,” because it was the least scary thing I could think of.
10. Weekly goals: Stop thinking of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” Finish re-reading “Game of Thrones” and get on to the next one!
Catherine says
1. Mood: A little tired but overall not bad for a Monday morning – especially one where I only got 4-5 hrs of sleep because of a migraine.
2. If you could dine (for free) anywhere in the world tonight, where would it be? Oh man. Taipei, Taiwan. I can’t even spell the thing I want, but oyster noodle soup at this little stand in the West Gate district with a line down the street.
3. Do you have any siblings? Oldest of two, my brother’s 17 months younger than I am.
4. If your pets could talk, what would they say about you? I don’t have any at the moment, but the other ones were almost all hamsters, so I doubt they’d have much to say except “feed me” or “let me out!!!!!!”
5. Which one do you follow most often, your heart or your head? Head. I’m a very logical person. And even when I’m following my heart my head’s going “WTH IS WRONG WITH YOU?”
6. What are three songs on your road trip playlist? Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, Kansas’s Carry on my Wayward Son and Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’
7. Would you consider yourself renowned or famous for anything in particular? Not really… though I am know in my program as being the oscillatory driving girl. Don’t ask.
8. Your favorite place for dessert? Bi-Rite Ice Cream!
9. Scariest movie you’ve ever seen? … I generally stay away from scary movies, but probably Silent Hill 2. I was stuck on a bus for 4 hours between Dansui and Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan and it was either see the movie or just hear it. ;_;
10. Weekly goals: Finish my current mini-project, sleep well, eat well, actually do all my physical therapy and go to yoga at least once, and practice my violin.
Shannon says
1. Mood: meh. I have an ear infection so I’m kind of sulky and fussy, a little bit like a toddler with an ear infection would be. It’s time to go to bed, I think.
2. If you could dine (for free) anywhere in the world tonight, where would it be? I’m thinking Taco Cabana or Sonic. South Africa is sadly lacking in the cheap fast food arena–just McD’s and KFC, and the local chicken chains Nando’s and Chicken Licken. (Big fans of fried chicken, the South Africans.)
3. Do you have any siblings? Younger sis. Way more together than I am. She should totally be the older sister.
4. If your pets could talk, what would they say about you? No pets. Not a pet person.
5. Which one do you follow most often, your heart or your head? I used to think head, but when I look back I realize I go with my gut a lot more than I acknowledge.
6. What are three songs on your road trip playlist? Britney’s “Toxic,” Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” (my friend and I have hand motions), and Nelly. Man, Nelly used to own summer, didn’t he? He had the big summer hit for like 5 years in a row last decade.
7. Would you consider yourself renowned or famous for anything in particular? I was legend in college for the mantra I would repeat through finals: “It doesn’t have to be good, it just has to be.” At some point when you’re under the gun, you just get it done and quality is secondary. 15 years later people still quote it.
8. Your favorite place for dessert? in Houston, Dessert Gallery. In Cape Town, Charly’s Bakery. In Boston, Sweet (a cupcake place). In Istanbul, every shop that sells baklava. I’m big into desserts.
9. Scariest movie you’ve ever seen? I really avoid them at all costs, so I don’t know, mercifully.
10. Weekly goals: Mark the term essays, study for the GRE, finish at least one of the books I’m reading

Friends and family always say I speak fluent sarcasm.
8. Your favorite place for dessert?
Tony’s Icecream.. just a local place with amazing icecream!
9. Scariest movie you’ve ever seen?
