- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past three years, which I guess makes this somewhere around Vol. 189. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
- A children’s book that brings back fond memories for you?
- If your life were fictionalized and made into a movie, what genre would it be?
- Are you saving up to buy anything?
- Where was your first kiss?
- A book you started reading but never finished?
- Do you have a good luck charm?
- Your favorite place to grab cheap eats?
- Which celebrities or other famous people have you seen in real life?
- Weekly goals:
I’m still a little groggy this morning, but I had a nice, relaxing weekend. I need my tea to hurry up and work its magic, though, so go, caffeine, go!
Gosh, there are so many. One of my favorites was The Very Hungry Caterpillar; I remember my mom reading it to me all the time. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Charlotte’s Web and The Giving Tree were some of my other faves.
Sci-fi 4ever! Or maybe something with vampires.
New office furniture, namely a larger desk, and a dining room set. Yep, after two years living here I still don’t have any furniture in my dining room (we eat at a coffee table on the living room floor). Not exciting, I know.
It was… I honestly can’t remember. But I guess it was pretty lame if my selective amnesia is kicking in, LOL!
Game of Thrones. I made it through about three quarters of it last summer but then couldn’t bring myself to finish it after [SPOILER ALERT! STOP READING HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!] Ned lost his head.
It broke my heart.
Nah, not really, but I do believe that randomness and chance are a part of life.
Lately, Chipotle, even though the way their menu is written drives me nuts. Why do they write, “cheese OR sour cream?” when you can have both?
I walked by (my mouth agape) Liz Phair at the airport in Las Vegas once, and last summer I spotted Carrie Anne Moss (Trinity!) buying gourmet cheese at a market in Vancouver. Oh, and this was kinda cool: a few years ago El Hub and I stood in line right behind George Lucas at the movies. I forget which movie it was, but he lives here in Marin County. We were both trying to play it cool and didn’t want to bother him, but I’m sure we looked like freaks. El Hub still regrets not telling George how much he likes the Clone Wars cartoon.
Be brave in all things.
Hey, hey, babe. 🙂 It’s another Monday.
How was your weekend? Did you get any time to relax? I’m happy to report that I spent a number of hours reading and recharging my batteries on the couch. If you have a minute, please say hi and let me know how you’re doing today by filling out the Monday Poll.

Karen says

Heidi says
1. Mood:
Anxious. Two words — job hunting. The interview on Friday went okay as far as interviews go, but the job description they provided the employment agency with and the job that they described to me were two different things. They really focused on my ability (or lack thereof) to be able to carry boxes of files around. Really? For an executive assistant? Really? So, don’t think I’ll be offered anything there. The search continues.
2. A children’s book that brings back fond memories for you?
The Velveteen Rabbit still resonates with me so much to this day.
3. If your life were fictionalized and made into a movie, what genre would it be?
I’d love for it to be a romantic comedy, but it’s probably more suited for an overwrought Lifetime Television Movie!
4. Are you saving up to buy anything?
When I’m in a position to do so, I really need a new television.
5. Where was your first kiss?
Grammar school library!
6. A book you started reading but never finished?
A Tale of Two Cities. It was required reading for school, but I just couldn’t get through it and ended up just checking out the Cliff Notes version. Oh, and any book that is an animal story, and the animal does not survive by the end of the book — yeah, I have to skip that final chapter!
7. Do you have a good luck charm?
I carry around a crystal that a dearly departed friend gave me years ago.
8. Your favorite place to grab cheap eats?
I’m not a fan of fast food (not a lot of veggie options), so I’d have to say the Crepevine. They have EVERYTHING (not just crepes) and I think the prices are reasonable (nothing over $9.95) for the amount of food you get.
9. Which celebrities or other famous people have you seen in real life?
When I lived in Marin County, CA I used to hang out at local clubs and would see lots of Bay Area musicians. Eric Martin (remember Mr. Big?), A couple of Journey members, a few from Huey Lewis and the News.
10. Weekly goals:
Try to line up another job interview, organize my computer desk (desk surface? haven’t seen it in ages!), and try my best to remain hopeful and positive!
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
Ah, bummer about the job. Let me guess — it was some sort of legal gig? Back in the day I was carrying boxes of files left and right. I think this means that there’s something better for you on the horizon.
BTW, I love The Velveteen Rabbit. I still get teary sometimes when I read it.

It came completely out of left field. We were wandering around University Circle in Cleveland, there are a bunch of museums and great restaurants there. We were outside the Botanical Garden and then he just knelt down. I thought he was tying his shoe and next thing I know, I’m looking at a beautiful diamond and sapphire ring!
We also picked a place to get married at, the Glidden House, which is not a half mile away from where we got engaged! We’ll be married on October 13th of next year, a little over a year from now!
Karen says
What a sweet story. I’m really happy for you! Can’t wait to hear about the dress shopping. 🙂

I’m really looking forward to it! I haven’t worn a dress like that since my junior prom!

Karen says
What’s the weather like out your way, Resa? It’s been kind of a downer here, too — overcast and rainy!
Kate & Zena says
1. Mood:
A bit tired (MATH!!!!) and stuffy from allergies. Them trees are finally shedding here and kicking up my allergies!
2. A children’s book that brings back fond memories for you?
Oh, there are so many as I was a big bibliophile, even back in my childhood. The first one that comes to mind though is a picture book (all pictures, no words) of The Nutcracker from the Tattered Cover Bookstore on LoDo Street in Denver. It was such an expensive book because it had 24 carat gold leaf on the cover and I had been begging for that book for Christmas. The illustrations were exquisite and engaging. (It didn’t help we were doing the ballet at the studio.) I spent hours a day making up stories in that book along with telling the actual story. I actually slept with that book along with my big Gundt bear from Germany and my baby one from Texas. It was stolen when I moved to Great Lakes (I spent DAYS searching for it. That book was not cheap), but I can still recall all the pictures. I wish the moving company men weren’t such jack asses because that really was my favorite book.
3. If your life were fictionalized and made into a movie, what genre would it be?
Inspirational and Drama, I think. Inspirational because I was a “Never Child” and told I would never be able to do anything, and my mom didn’t accept that, and so she worked her butt off to make sure I would be able to do the things the doctors said I wouldn’t. Drama because I’m sure people would cry.
4. Are you saving up to buy anything?
Um, I should probably do that, shouldn’t I?
5. Where was your first kiss?
I’ve never had one yet; not one I’d define a kiss anyway.
6. A book you started reading but never finished?
The first book in the Redwall series. I could never get into it.
7. Do you have a good luck charm?
Yes, my great-grandmother’s ring.
8. Your favorite place to grab cheap eats?
Sbarro’s! I love that restaurant!
9. Which celebrities or other famous people have you seen in real life?
I’ve never met anyone really famous! Well, we met a Bears player (don’t remember his name) where my dad went crazy. I don’t know what I’d do if I ever saw someone famous; I think I might run in the opposite direction–I’m so shy!
10. Weekly goals:
-Continue doing my ballet DVD. Just because I’m resting a pulled muscle doesn’t mean I can permanently forget about the DVD (which I tend to do.) I love ballet, so I probably won’t forget.
-Survive the hell of math. It just got two times harder!
-Seriously, I have to bathe Zena. She might like to smell like Fritos; I don’t.
-Do an 10-minute exercise involving weights. I bought them, I need to use them!
Karen says
Hi Kate,
I think I’d like to give Z. a big sniff (I love Fritos). 🙂
What kind of weights did you get?
Kate & Zena says
I love Fritos too, but it smells horrendous on a dog! Zena’s paws are mostly eau de Frito, but her body is like Fritos, grass, carpet and weed pollen! Yuckie! And don’t get me started on behind her ears (ewwwwwwwwww.)
I got walking dumbbells from Tone Fitness. I wanted the purple weights (as I love purple), but they weren’t in my weight! Mine are pink (and I really dislike that color.) I think I got the lowest possible weights you can possibly get–each weight is 1 lb (2 lbs all together.) My wrists gave out and dropped on 3 lb weights (6 lbs together) on my foot half way through the Kim Kardashian Ab Workout last summer (I personally don’t like her as she’s always overdone, but I love the workout) so I needed to go lighter. I wasn’t too thrilled by that one 3 lb weight landing on my toes; it hurt like a bee-yatch for a whole week!

Jen says
Hi Karen,
It must be! I was shy but couldn’t pass by a chance to say something to the guy that created the Star Wars movies. I was a huge fan as a kid. So I wished him a Merry Christmas after I asked if he was George Lucas. LOL
