- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past three years, which I guess makes this somewhere around Vol. 150. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
- Mood:
- Best thing that happened to you in 2010?
- Worst thing?
- Your biggest beauty revelation of 2010?
- Your biggest personal revelation?
- Something you’d like to cross off your bucket list in 2011?
- Your plans for New Year’s Eve?
- Write yourself a New Year’s love note…
- And now write a love note for anyone who’s reading this right now.
- Weekly goals:
Absolutely spiffy. El Hub has some time off before the new year, so Tabs and I are thrilled to have him around today.
Going to Milan to cover the Dolce & Gabbana show last October, for sure.
2010 was pretty good to me (knock on wood), so I don’t really have a specific thing, but I do think I have to get better about balancing blogging and my offline life. Time flies when I’m at the computer, and I didn’t spend nearly enough time with my family this year. Over Christmas, I realized how much I miss them. You know what they say — time waits for no one.
That chin and eyebrow hairs suck, but white chin and eyebrow hairs suck even more!
I’m my own best cheerleader. 🙂
Make it over to Europe. I’d love to spend a holiday swimming and relaxing somewhere along the Mediterranean coast. Got any suggestions?
Nothing yet (I know, so last minute!), but later today I’m going to look for something to do, maybe one of those restaurants that hosts big NYE dinners.
Dear, Karen. Remember to be kinder and gentler to yourself in 2011, because you’re doing just fine. And if you’re meant to be a mother, don’t worry. It will happen.
I wish you an ocean of good luck, love and happiness in 2011. If worry is weighing on you, know that 1) you’re stronger than you think, and 2) turn to the people you know you can trust to lift you up when you need it.
Finish entering info into my Nike + iPod (a gift from El Hub). It has a pedometer and tracks workouts online. I also want to clean the house from top to bottom before the new year, and touch base with my family and some friends by e-mail or phone at least once this week.
Can you believe we made it through another year together? Because he’s so in the moment, Tabs doesn’t really think about what tomorrow brings, but I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately — about what I would like to accomplish in 2011. If you’re in the mood to reflect with me, or you just feel like popping by to say hi, please take a moment to fill out the Monday Poll. I’d love to hear from ya. 🙂
- To complete the Monday Poll, just copy the following list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.

Ru says
LOVE the monday poll. Oh and your #4 made me giggle
1. Mood: Apprehensive
2. Best thing that happened to you in 2010?
DH moving to DC; going to Italy
3. Worst thing?
Sadly, my wedding was not anything I’d ever dreamed for, and while it pleased everyone else, it displeased me greatly. But it was 1 day and the marraige is more important than an event.
4. Your biggest beauty revelation of 2010?
When I think back to some makeup looks I’ve done in the (way way) past, I want to gag at my lack of knowledge. Oh also, I have a (beauty) spending problem and really need to stop.
5. Your biggest personal revelation?
Other people don’t put me on the backburner, I do, and therefore allow them to think my feelings, wants, needs don’t matter
6. Something you’d like to cross off your bucket list in 2011?
Visit my country
7. Plans for New Year’s Eve?
No clue because it’s last minute as well
8. Write yourself a New Year’s love note…
Dear Ru, 2010 was a rough year, but that was 2010. In 2011 all that will be in the past, and we can go back to living a life with no guilt and no regrets.
9. …and now write a love note for anyone who’s reading this right now.
Dear Friends, you don’t need a new year to change anything in your life. Everyday is an oppurtunity to induce change.
10. Weekly goals: Play with my makeup, clean up on a regular basis, treat myself a bit because I deserve it
Karen says
Hi Ru,
Sorry to hear your wedding day wasn’t what you wished for. Perhaps you guys can do a renewal ceremony in a few years in a way that makes you happy? That might be something to look forward to.
Would you believe El Hub and still haven’t had a honeymoon? And it’s gonna be five years in July, LOL!
Ru says
Girl you need to get on that ASAP. It’s a must. We went to Italy and Spain and it was amazing.
Thanks for your kind words 🙂

6. Something you’d like to cross off your bucket list in 2011?: GETTING A NEW (real) JOB!!!!

p.s. – the nike+ thing is so cool! I would definitely want one if I could actually run 🙂
Karen says
You can use it to walk too! 🙂 Do you have an iPod or a an iPhone? It works with either.
Tiffany says
hmmm, I wonder if it’s worth it for walking? I have a feeling that will be my main exercise after the baby is born – going for walks with the stroller 🙂
I have an ipod shuffle and an iphone… do you have to put your iphone in an arm band thing to use it with that?
Karen says
I use it with my iPod touch. You can clip it on your clothes, but I use an arm band because otherwise I have trouble seeing the screen!
And yes, I think it’s worth it if you walk, especially if you’re the type of person who responds well to data, numbers and tracking.
BTW, baby strollers are so sci-fi these days! Some of them are really streamlined.
Tiffany says
thanks for the info! I might look into this next year!

Hey Karen!
Regarding your Mediterranean dreams for 2011, I have a few suggestions!
Absolute best is the Isle of Capri off the cost of Italy. It’s paradise. However, staying on the island is super expensive so stay in Sorrento and take the ferry.
Marseille in the south of France is one of my absolute favorite cities. Nice and Antibes are awesome too.
And last but certainly not least, Barcelona. It’s basically the most B.A. city ever.
Love from a recently returned student traveler,
Angie

Hope you are having a lovely holiday time Karen, and everyone else in MBB land.
Mood: Tired and dreading starting work on my latest essay
2. Best thing that happened to you in 2010?
My cat Chloe came back to live with me after a long time away (over a year – while I sorted housing problems out). I rescued her 8 years ago, and was starting to think I would have to have her re-homed but luckily everything worked out.
3. Worst thing?
I had major stress at work in 2010, but things are definitely looking up.
4. Your biggest beauty revelation of 2010?
Chanel Vitalumiere, and realising just how much filling in your eyebrows can change your face (for the better!).

That all these years I thought I was naturally bad at managing my money, and I was wrong! I just needed some gentle help from an accountant friend.
6. Something you’d like to cross off your bucket list in 2011?

9. …and now write a love note for anyone who’s reading this right now.
If you don’t like your life, you can change it – my personal mantra. Simple, but important.
10. Weekly goals
I am doing an MA at the moment, alongside my regular work (they are related) and unfortunately I need to buckle down really hard and get an essay written. I also need to see my best friend at least once.
P.S My partner got me a gift set of 10 Nails Inc polishes, and some stuff from ELF and I nearly killed him in excitement. He is definitely catching on!
P.P.S: Do you guys have Eyeko in the US? I discovered it here in the UK a while ago, and it is super cheap but (I think) pretty good quality. Their nail polishes come in really cool colours and I recently tried an eyeliner pen in purple which lasted ages and ages. I haven’t tried all of their stuff, so some of it may not be as good, but the bits I HAVE tried have been really good considering the price.

4. Your biggest beauty revelation of 2010? I have deep set eyes, and that means I'll never be able to do superdramatic smokey looks. Close follow up: short hair + being 6 feet tall may get me occasionally called "sir", but not dealing with long hair is worth it!

Hi Karen!
Longtime lurker, but I finally had to comment to recommend you and your husband go to the Cinque Terre in Italy. They’re five villages that line the Italian Riviera and you can hike along a path the overlooks the Mediterranean to get to each village (or take a train, but that’s less fun). I was there two summers ago (stayed in the village of Vernazza) and I’ve become practically evangelical about it. Honestly, it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever been and it’s area is where pesto originated. What could be better?
