- You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past three years, which I guess makes this somewhere around Vol. 180. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.

Tired. I haven’t really been sleeping well here in San Diego. I think I miss my bed. But other than under-eye circles a few shades darker than usual, a slight ache in the arches of my feet and a general foggy-headed confusion that won’t abate, I’m absolutely great. 🙂
…bring out the best in the people I know and love.
…a smaller dress size, about a thousand times more patience (I’m working on it! Don’t rush me!), fewer hairs on my chin and a dog named Shauna (she’s my dad’s pup now).
…be eating Pinkberry, LOL! Specifically, I’d like a medium (that’s 5 ounces), half Original, half Salted Caramel, please.
…I’m usually writing, running, doing my makeup, thinking about all of the things I need to do, or cheese grating/buffing my feet.
…a deep tissue massage. I always tell the spa tech to “tenderize me like I’m a side of beef!” I love that loosey goosey feeling I get afterwards.
…you know the person sitting next to you on the airplane keeps passing gas but tries to cover it up with too much cologne. It seems to happen around me a lot. Maybe my super power is to give people gas, and if that’s the case, my super power SUCKS.
…operating anything first thing the morning, so I won’t drive or wield sharp objects for the first two hours of my day.
…constantly amazed by the kindness of strangers.
To get to bed by 9 every night, to start using the MyFitnessPal app on my iPhone (thanks bunches for the recommendation!), and to put aside a few extra minutes to play with Tabs every day this week.
I’m homeward bound! I’m glad I got to spend a few hours sightseeing in San Diego yesterday. The conference was interesting; I learned a lot and met some cool new people, but I’m ready to go home.

Hi Mary,
Well, it’s a long story, but it’s a combination of growing up and not taking everything quite so much to heart; making true friends who liked me as I am; and frankly counseling, which helped me acknowledge that there were, objectively, a lot of positive things about me. I was a total nerd in my school years, very shy and tall, gangly and awkward, and I went to an all-girls’ private school where there was a LOT of mean-girling going on if you weren’t “cool”.
Thankfully, growing up and realizing it was okay to be studious and interested in a wide range of subjects and pursuits was okay! Having a fantastic husband who treats me like gold didn’t hurt. And, finally, without trying to sound too goody two-shoes, I do a lot of volunteering and charity-giving. Nothing gives you more perspective or makes you feel worthwhile like giving back to those in need.
So that was supposed to be a short answer :). P.S., love your eye shadow and I’m looking forward to checking out your blog!
