Girl, I’m an equal opportunity lust-er.
Ha ha ha! I don’t even know if that makes sense… In addition to makeup and hair products and skin care and nail polish and everything else that you can shove into your basket at Sephora, I lust after clothes, and the urge is particularly strong at the beginning of a new season, because I’m thinking, “Oh, the weather’s changing! I need to update my wardrobe.” 🙂
I mean, “need” in this case is totally in air quotes, because I’m not walking around in my birthday suit or anything, but ya know, I’d like a few updates, because I’m kind of tired of wearing the same shirts over and over again. Ever since I KonMari’d my closet, which happened shortly before I got pregnant with Connor, the same five shirts and two pairs of pants that I’ve been able to shoehorn myself into have been in steady rotation, and I’m feeling the itch to switch things up ASAP.
The Lust List, Vol. 3: Stuff I Kinda Want
- Madewell Fleet Jacket ($118) — I’m lusting after this Madewell jacket so hard! I have something similar that I got from Loft a few years ago, but it’s a little too big for me, so I look like a kid dressing up in her mother’s clothes when I wear it.
And in your 40s, that’s not a good look.
The Madewell version looks a bit shorter, more streamlined, and I really like the zippered pocket in the front.
- Madewell Stripe Recycled Cotton Ringer Tee ($32) — This striped tee is also from Madewell. I have two black-and-white striped shirts from Loft that I got 50% off a couple seasons ago, but both of them have holes already, gah.
I want this as a replacement shirt… I like the black detailing around the neck and sleeves.
Do you have any Madewell tees in your closet? Are they, in fact, made well?
- Athleta Knot Zephyr Tank ($49) — I’ve been spending a lot of time lately on the Athleta website, and gosh, they have a lot of cute (but reeeeeeally expensive) workout clothes.
I’m crushing on this mint green tank top. It’s from their line of super soft clothing, and I’m into super soft. I like how it drapes (I don’t like tight workout tops), and THE KNOT ON THE FRONT IS SO CUTE.
- Athleta Estuary Aqualuxe Swim Dress ($79) — They also have swim dresses. Who knew? You can actually swim in ’em (I think you have to add your own bottoms, though).
I’d like this dress for actually wearing as a dress, but I can’t say that I’m averse to the idea of being able to jump into a body of water in it at a moment’s notice.
- Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle and Lilac Path Eau de Parfums ($115 each) — So, I know that it seems #basic to wear floral fragrances at the beginning of spring, but I don’t care, because Aerin does awesome florals. Her scents remind me of Tocca in that they’re light and pretty and not too in your face. Mediterranean Honeysuckle and Lilac Path sound like lovely spring updates, don’t you think?
- Sephora Mixology Eyeshadow Palette ($34) — I mostly like this palette from Sephora because of the design, LOL!
- Stila Magnificent Metals ($24 each) — I swatched some Stila Magnificent Metals on the back of my hand while wandering around Ulta a couple weeks ago, and I haven’t been able to get them off my mind.
So glittery! So sparkly! I wouldn’t be crushed if one or two found their way into my life…
- Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remove Lip Oil Stick ($18) — Does one really need a separate makeup remover just to take off long-wearing lipstick?
Naw, but this one from Urban Decay is clear! I don’t know why, but I find this endlessly fascinating.
What’s on your lust list, babe? Clothes, makeup, shoes, books, technology, accessories, pet accessories?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

There was an Estée Lauder lipstick I really wanted, but it has wheat and barley in it. If it wasn’t a product that goes on the lips, I wouldn’t care. I ordered a MAC lipstick that was similar (and cheaper!)
I have a list going for the next time Ulta sends out a Platinum coupon. I want a nicer boar bristle brush, the new Orlando Pita Play color depositing hair mask (depending on what the copper red looks like), the Bare Minerals 5 in 1 cream eyeshadow, a few other things. From Sephora there’s some new setting sprays I want to try (Kat Von D, GlamGlow). I also want to pick up some more MAC eyeshadows.
Karen says
Oh, what MAC lipstick did you get?
I hope when MAC comes to Ulta that the coupons apply to MAC too!
Chelsea says
It’s one from the new metallic collection, Digging for Gold!
I’m doubtful because Ulta coupons typically don’t apply to Clinique or Lancôme… We can always hope though!
Karen says
Oh, I like that one! Good choice. Looks very pretty layered under gloss, too.
Lynnsey says
I LOVE Aerin perfumes. Ikat Jasmine is my daily scent. It doesn’t really smell like jasmine, but is just light and fresh. I love it.
Karen says
Hi Lynnsey,
ME TOO! They do amazing scents. Have you ever tried Waterlily Sun? I have it in my everyday rotation.
Erin says
I really also want those glitter things from Stila! I hear the rose and the purple are the best!
Eleni says
I want to try ten Stila magnificent metals too. I’m sort of trying to get more skincare than makeup recently but my efforts are probably in vain, so I will probably give in as usual ?
Jane says
It’s funny, but as I have gotten older, I don’t crave mush in terms of clothing. When I was in the corporate world, I was in Ann Taylor at least once a week. These days, I go to H & M and look for the $10 tees and cardigans. I wear them until they fall apart and just replace them. I am searching for the perfect bathing suit cover-up for Florida, but may just wait until I get down there. I have had my eye on the NARS loaded eyeshadow palette and Eleni’s post has tempted me, but I really have no need for that many eyeshadows. I buy palettes, use a few shades and eventually throw them out. I am better off buying single or duos or just a quad. I am also searching for the perfect slip on shoe.
Be well!
Karen says
That’s right, your trip is soon! I just saw a really cute coverup on Athleta but it’s so expensive ($69). It does have wicking, a hood and pockets though, and it’s so cute!
Rachel says
I do have some Madewell tees and they got holes pretty fast but I think that’s because they were a “washed” material so they were a little on the thin side. I liked the fit though. That being said, I can’t do ringer tees! They remind me of awkward phases in 8th and 9th grade. That green jacket is super cute though! I have an army green spring jacket that goes with everything! I am trying to pare down my lust list because I truly don’t need anything. Last night I changed out some of my makeup with some new makeup I had just laying around so I kind of feel like I got something new!
karan says
ditto on the Madewell tees. Unfortunately 🙁
Karen says
Waaah! Thanks for letting me know about the Madewell tees. If you gals know of a brand that does cute tee which hold up please let me know. And if I find something, I’ll let you know too.
Oh, and isn’t it amazing how army green functions basically as a neutral?
Christine says
I’m an Athleta girl myself. Never cared much for Lululemon, price- or aesthetic-wise.
I REALLY want a Berkey Water Purifier.
I would love to register for Mysore Ashtanga down the street from where I live.
And an Ekaminhale Hanuman tank top.
🙂
Karen says
I only like Lululemon jackets. Everything else I’ve bought from them — leggings, tees, sweaters — fell apart way too fast for the $$$.
What items do you like from Athleta? I’m thinking of getting some 7/8 leggings.
Cory says
Ugh, I so feel you on this, Karen! I’m “saving”, but I keep spending! Same thing, makeup/skincare & clothes. I really dig that jacket you want. I’m looking for the PERFECT bomber, but haven’t found one yet. So, I say get it! Because once you find the perfect one, it may not stick around for long. Then it’ll haunt you lol!
That Sephora mixology palette caught my eye too, also, mainly bc of the design!
I started just deleting emails so I wouldn’t be tempted, but some I just can’t delete w/out looking at first (like yours!)….
Karen says
Hi Cory,
I’ve definitely been haunted by the clothes I’ve never bought. LOL! Shoes haunt me too.
Do you ever put stuff in your cart just to keep it in there? (But they you never actually buy it?) I do that all the time.
Cory says
All the time! LOL

I’ve been trying to find the perfect faux leather jacket for several seasons now, I ordered two different sizes of a blanknyc one when it went on sale, the smaller size fits like a glove which isn’t what I wanted and the larger size got cancelled eventually, womp womp. Back to the drawing board! I just want a light-medium jacket that is tough looking to pretend I have a little style and will still fit my arms if I get pregnant again since I eat like a woman possessed. ?
And when I saw that Sephora palette picture, my first reaction was I love the design, though I have no need for more of those colors and it looks potentially really impractical to get a brush in, but still.. ?
Karen says
Girl! Which BlankNYC jacket? I have one that I wear all the time and LOOOOOVE. It’s this one; I have it in black. I’ve had it for years and it’s held up well. I may spring for the brown one eventually.
Nicole - paleandfreckled says
That’s why I started looking at the brand! I ordered the Easy Rider style which seemed like a really nice quality. Bummer it didn’t fit the way I was hoping. Maybe if I waffle long enough, they’ll bring out another style I like. ?

Mine is more of a ‘must’ list than a ‘lust’ list. I looked over my wardrobe a couple of weeks ago and nearly had a hissyfit. Everything looks awful- all my yoga pants and knit skirts have pilled and my tees are covered in paint and stains from remodeling. I work from home, so I haven’t really thought much about how things looked. So now I need all the clothes, right down to new undies.
Karen says
Hi Suzanne C,
Um, are we living the same life? I’m in the exact same boat. Everything in my closet is ratty. Last time I shopped — like really shopped! — was before I got pregnant with Connor, and now the nicest thing in my closet is a pair of high waisted black Zella leggings which I bought a couple months ago. I practically live in them.
Also, I work from home too, and there are days when I don’t get out of my jammies until 2 or 3. I want to get out of that habit, but I don’t have any decent clothes. It’s a cruel cycle!
Suzanne C says
The heavens did open up a couple of weeks ago and the angels brought me a pair of knit jeans. They’re like skinny jeans, but softer and stretchier; more comfortable, to me, than jeggings, because they’re just slightly looser in the leg. So now I just need a couple more pairs of those, plus every other kind of clothing, then I’ll be set, lol.
Karen says
Do tell! Who makes these magical pants?!
Suzanne C says
Mine are plus-size, made by a company called Catherine’s. But I’ve seen them in Misses sizes at Kohl’s- my mom has a pair, I think they’re by Kohl’s brand, Croft & Barrow. My niece saw some at Forever 21 and H&M.
Kim says
You always make me laugh. I saw the pic and headline and was like “um, I’m lusting after long, thin legs and a flat belly!”. HAHA! If you find some clothes that give that optical illusion, send me the links! 🙂
Mimibelle says
I’ve been covering Stella McCartney Elyse Star shoes for the past 3-4 years. But each year I think ‘man, they are expensive and they will be irrelevant next season’ and then they keep making them! But now I’m all ‘well it’s been almost 4 years. They will SO be irrelevant next season….. ‘. if I’d bought them 4 years ago I would have got my money’s worth.
Tatiana says
I’m with Kim, I’d like longer, leaner legs and a flatter stomach. I’d love play-off tickets for the Warriors, but that isn’t going to happen considering I’m not a season ticket holder. And Dear Husband would balk at the price anyway. Otherwise, trying to downsize in case we end up moving.
Katie says
I have a swim dress from Land’s End! I like swim dresses because you can be cute and modest, which is good because I tend to stay more covered up, plus I mostly go to the beach with my grandparents! I can’t speak to that dress in particular but as a concept, I’m a huge fan.
I’m also enjoying how you’ve been taking lip swatch photos lately. I like how close up they are because I always want to see the texture on the lips, so thanks for that!
My lust list:
1. Dior Addict lipstick in Black Coffee. The texture is really cool, you tend to see a lot of matte dark lipsticks, but I like the idea of a shiny deep lipstick for spring/summer. I’m hoping the Sephora spring sale will be relatively soon so I can score it (and a bunch of stuff on my lust list!).
2. Some new bras, ASAP! Mine are all ancient and falling apart. I’ll probably get some at Aerie. I know my size in their stuff, plus (in my experience) they’re cheaper and far better quality than Victoria’s Secret. Honestly, I’ve gotten $15 bras at Target better than VS.
3. The new NARS Soft Matte concealer! I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews. I don’t spot conceal often, but when I do, I always wish I had something matte but non-drying (my acne ironically always pops up on the dryest spots on my face), and that’s what this seems to be. I just wish they had a fair, warm shade (similar to Vanilla in depth but less pink), but I’ll work with what I’ve got!
4. The Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief mask. I tried the $4 size and loved it! Strangely for a soothing mask, it tingles the first few minutes it’s on, but that fades and when I rinse it off, my skin is so smooth and my redness is GONE. I have the full size in my Sephora cart, plus the Treatment Lotion in the same collection (I haven’t tried this yet).
5. The Hourglass Ambient Light powder palette. I’ve been lusting after this for probably 2-3 years now, so I figure I need to finally bite the bullet. A friend of mine has it and let me borrow it and it’s so pretty!

Mmmph! I LOVE Lilac Path – I had to choose between it and Waterlily Sun a few summers ago, but it was a really close call! I would totally recommend adding it to your stash 😉
(I still might!)

I feel you with Athleta — it all looks nice, but it’s so pricey! I have a pair of leggings from them that I found at TJ Maxx(!), and I quite like them.
I’ve been looking at:
-Handmade knit Aran capes and hooded shawls (so nice but so expensive, especially the shipping since it’s coming from Ireland)
-“Tale as Old as Time: The Art and Making of Disney Beauty and the Beast: Inside Stories from the Animated Classic to the New Live-Action Film” by Charles Solomon (I love the animated version, but I saw the new one this past weekend and it’s been on my mind)
-Deciem WhiteRx’s White Blur and White Flash (though I’m about to do a big order from Deciem’s The Ordinary, so this will probably have to wait)
Karen says
Hi Ali,
I had no idea that TJ Maxx carries Athleta! I’ll keep my eye out for them there. THANK YOU!
Ali says
Happy to help! I’ve only seen Athleta at TJ Maxx and Marshalls very rarely, and when I did, it was a few pairs of fleece-lined leggings. (I noticed that if my local TJ Maxx had Athleta, then normally my local Marshalls had a few pieces from them, too.)
I haven’t seen any shirts or other stuff from Athleta there yet, but I can always hope!
Karen says
Sweet! I have a Marshalls in my town. *keeping my fingers crossed*
Lupe says
I kind of want the Sephora palette. That dress is cute!
LindaLibraLoca says
Apart from the ususal skin care I am lusting after I want new clothes. But first I need to sort out my closet, that is what I tell myself, to see what I already own. Maybe next weekend.

I often dream about what I would buy if I won the lotto but seeing as I don’t play, it’s just a fun exercise as I fall asleep. Or tune out annoying people. Anyway.
1. New laptop. Mine is ancient.
2. A few new bras and dozens of camisoles from Lane Bryant. I’m an odd bra size and I love their camis which I wear layered on a daily basis.
3. Massages for my arm and shoulder issues. Like, weekly.
4. New Converse in hot pink, grey, and turquoise. Converse make me happy.
5. A really really great long-lasting eyeliner in a bright but not neon shade of green. I keep searching…
6. More tattoos.
7. And my own private island somewhere in the San Juan (but seriously if I won the lotto, I’d buy one).
Trude says
I love my Madewell t-shirts! I’ve actually been meaning to buy more, although I’m tempted to go with Everlane again instead… I have a couple of Madewell’s classic v-neck pocket t-shirts, and they’ve worn really well. They *are* on the thin side, but not so much that I feel the need for a tank underneath. The drape is perfect for a little front tuck though! 🙂 And I remember reading a lot of comments on washing, but I’ve been washing them on cold and going easy on the tumble dry and they’ve lasted for a couple years no problem.

I have a pair of INC International Concepts Sammie Slip on sneakers from Macy’s in my cart. They have bling, but they don’t look obnoxious. I think they’d be perfect for spring/summer. I’m just having a hard time with the $89.50 price tag for a pair of sneakers. I also have a pair of rose gold slip on sneakers in my Macy’s cart.
I’ve had good luck with Banana Republic t-shirts. I have a bunch from Loft and they all have tiny holes in them. I’m not sure if it’s from cat claws or just normal wear and tear. But my BR t-shirts are in good shape.
