I tend to favor glosses in warm weather (they won’t melt in my purse!) and lipsticks in cold weather (especially if they tend to be more moisturizing).
Honestly I wear both equally. I love a good gloss that isn’t too sticky. I think the best I’ve found so far is the L’Oreal Le Gloss (love texture, smell, color, feeling, long lasting, moisturizing). But sometimes I like how sheer a good lipstick feels, ya know!
I used to love lipsticks for years growing up cause I felt glossy lips were too attention grabbing for me. Then I transitioned to lipglosses a year ago when I became more confident. Now I’m sort of heading back into lipsticks cause I love the new formulations that have been coming out recently(& there’s so many of them!).
I usually go for a gloss, it’s quicker and easier to apply, but if I’m gonna need it to last awhile, I’ll do lipstick or a lipstain, and top it with gloss. But, always gloss!
Honest.. I own many and many lipsticks but the only thing that I wear is actually lipgloss. The shine of a gloss makes my lips and my whole mouth look bigger.
Oh dear, lipstick or gloss. How can I possibly choose? That is so Sophie’s Choice :).
I gues at work, I’d say lipstick, since that’s more appropriate for the government/D.C. setting. When I’m doing my makeup for myself, going out for fun, I tend to reach more for the glosses.
I like both but I prefer glosses. They are a bit more versatile for me. I can pop them on with no liner and go. With lipsticks I tend to feel like I’m wearing an unfinished lip if I don’t add a lip liner or gloss when I put it on. I have a few that I feel comfortable wearing solo, so of course those are my go to’s for everyday looks.
Lip gloss! My lips get dry really easily and frequently, and I absolutely hate the feeling of lipstick on dry lips. Gloss is just a lot more comfortable for me.
Been wearing lipsticks with a layer of gloss for most of the past year, particularly since glosses come with a lot more gold and other color shimmer options than in the past. I tend to favor glosses overall, when I need to choose one versus the other.
I used to wear nothing but lip gloss, but I have recently fallen in love with the classic looks that can be easily accomplished with lipstick. I never leave the house with at least one of each.
I would have to say both! I do love the sophisticated feel of pulling out a gorgeous lipstick (hello, Chanel!!). If I want a low maintenance look, I’ll just whip out a gloss. But I must admit, often I wear both 🙂
Lip balm all the way! I like the ones with fun scents, or tinted ones if I want a little more of a pop! Stains are good too, but I hate how they feel drying….
I voted, other.
It’s because I’m a fan of the hybrids. I don’t care for pure glosses… usually not enough color, wears off too fast… and I don’t care for pure lipsticks… seriously the lipstick smell makes me gag. So what about lipsticks that are more like lipglosses and lipglosses that are more like lipsticks. What ever that category is… that’s the one I vote for!! Anything that pushes up in a stick form but doesn’t smell like lipstick with lots of color but not so much color that I need a lip liner and 20 min in front of a mirror!
I like both together, actually! (Although for daytime purposes, usually gloss). The Urban Decay lipstick and lipgloss in Peroxide look BEAUTIFUL together. <3 I love the silver shimmer in the gloss.
I’m going to have to go with lipgloss- but I wear lipstick, too. My collection is growing! More often than not, it’s both; I love wearing a lipstick with a gloss over it! It takes away the dry feeling that lipsticks usually give me.
For the longest time, I was strictly lipgloss. I really hated my lip shape and felt lipglosses made my mouth look prettier. Weird, right?
Now, I’m all about those wine, burgundy, red, even bright pink lips. I changed my hair color to a warm brunette and it seems my perception of color has changed with everything.
The one habit I can not do is, a lipgloss over a lipstick. I feel its way too much and the color never lasts. Its either one or the other, never both.
I am equally addicted to gloss and lipstick. I always have a pocket full of lippies. I work as a nurse and while at work my routine generally starts off with the application of lipstick with a similar tone of lip gloss stashed in my pocket for on the fly mirror less touch ups, as I hate the feeling of dry lips. We nurses talk A LOT and it’s pretty easy to feel “dried out.” During more casual days, I gloss it up. Days I want to feel more put together I wear lipstick. I am happy that I have a unique neutral coloring that I can wear many colors. This incorporated with my lack of “color fear” makes lipstick/lip gloss utilization incredibly fun for me. My BF always laughs at how my bad blues days are cured by simply buying a lip color. Because of this I own an arsenal!!!
It depends on my mood or the look I’m going for or even sometimes the weather (If i’m wearing my hair down and it’s blustery I do not want to be wearing gloss!)
Quite often I like a combination of lipstick and gloss, my favourite combo at the moment is Nars Dloce Vita lipstick and Turkish Delight Gloss.
In the summer, I usually opt for lipglosses, they are more lightweight and effortless… but on the whole, I prefer lipsticks more. Nowadays they have so many formulations, and they don’t look ‘old’ or outdated at all (like nude lipstick with a satin finish, for example): Also, they are more even, they are stronger in color, they are more lasting… and they don’t have that jelly type of feeling when I wear them… and also, I hate when my hair gets stuck in the glosses (vene if I’m not running/hurrying).
I love lip gloss and thought that would be my pick, but when I think about it (and these are serious decisions to be made here), with my very pigmented lips, if I ever wanted a nude color I’d have to wear a lipstick. I enjoy layering lipsticks as well. And if I wanted the color to be shiny, I’d apply my Jack Black lip balm – problem solved!
I prefer lip gloss for most days during the week as I wear minimal or natural makeup looks and feel that lipstick can make me look overdone. When I do a full face of makeup I always go for lipstick and apply a bit of glass on top. I need to reapply lipstick in front of a mirror and sometimes get lazy so I tend to usually reapply lip gloss instead.
i usually wear neither but lipgloss is annoying because hair gets stuck to it, it looks gross if you eat and it comes off easily. the only downside of (some) lipsticks is that they highlight my flaky(i’m to blame for that cuz i don’t leave them be:))) lips. but a good moisturizing lipstick is perfect(like my maybelline color sensational) tho it’s not long lasting but i don’t mind that much.
Totally a seasonal thing. I love lipstick in Fall and Winter. It just seems more formal, somehow. Spring and summer it’s all about the gloss. Stuff one in my pocket and I’m off!
I love lip gloss. I have so many. Unlike most people, the stickier the better. When it’s sticky, the gloss lasts longer.
I wear full on smoky or a dark eye shadow with light colored lip gloss.
I can’t have enough glosses!
I like sheer lipstick with some shine. I used to love lipstick, but now I think it looks harsh, dries out my lips and can bleed into my liplines. Gloss is just too shiny and sticky. A tinted lip balm is the best.
Antonia at Swedish Love Affair says
I’m voting lipstick! Better colors and my hair doesn’t get stuck in it!
Karen says
That’s true.
Plus, there are plenty of lipsticks with a gloss like finish!

Yeah, you’re right!
(I thought you were more of a lipstick lady!:))

I’m with Amanda. Though I think I wear lip balm more than either lipstick or gloss, especially in the cold weather. 🙂

I rock both of them…simultaneously or each solo. Depends on how I feel and how much I’m rushing to get out the door in the morning…
Diana says
I usually wear gloss, but for some special events my red hot lipstick is my best asset. It brightens my day and makes me look fresh.

I go through my phases. With the cooler weather, it’s usually lipstick and the warmer months is usually gloss.
Jen says
I agree with Amanda that I use lipgloss in warmer weather and lipstick in cooler weather. I really do prefer lipstick. I just don’t want it to melt.

Lip balm over a lipstain!

Definitely glosses! They give lips a lovely shine and they are quicker to apply. But I like lipsticks too.

Lipstick! My lips aren’t super pigmented so gloss doesn’t do much for me.
My favorite brand is wet n wild mega last. They may be cheap, but they’re awesome! You’ve got to try them!

Gloss all the way! Or tinted balms. Anything sheer, so I can apply it without a mirror and not come away looking like a clown hooker.
