** THE GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED **
This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, MARIA!!!), but check back next Saturday for another giveaway.
“I’m never gonna dance again; pregnant feet have got no rhythm. Though it’s easy to pretend, I know you’re not a fool…”
Dude, those easily could have been the lyrics to that song, because I kid you not, I’m a total klutz right now. I waddle like an emperor penguin, and if I stub my toes one more time… I swear…
Haha! I made myself laugh! It’s true, though.
Rise and shine, morning glory! Happy caturday. 🙂 What are you up to? I slept in a little, which my body seemed to really like. This weekend, it’s just more of the same for me — the baby waiting game. She could show up any day now, so I don’t think I’ll be going on any very long, solitary hikes. Probably not a good idea to get too far off the beaten path right now, ya know? I don’t want to deliver Baby Girl in a car or the woods.
No. That would not be ideal.
Here at Casa de MBB, while I’m off attending to Baby Girl’s needs, the interns will take over! Yes, six intrepid blogging beauties will be posting product reviews, makeup tips and other interesting things, and I’ll still be checking in from time to time, too. I’ve been working closely with the interns behind the scenes for the past few weeks, and I’m very impressed and excited. We’re all in for a treat.
Have a great weekend, my friend, and I’ll talk to you soon. Good luck in the giveaway.

Yes, my mom loves make-up! She’s always liked make-up, but I do think I’ve helped fuel the obsession 😉

Nanna Hansen says
My mom don’t have the same obsession as myself, but she do love makeup – and since I really got into it, her obsession might have grown a bit. I remember as a child always looking in my mom’s makeup drawers and putting it on, and then clean it off and pretend I didn’t do anything whilst I was on the bathroom for thirty minutes (it was before the phone era haha, so it didn’t take THAT long to go to the bathroom) 😀
Samantha says
If I curl my hair it takes about half an hour to curl and tszuj. Otherwise, half a minute.

My mom doesn’t wear any makeup, unless you count clear nail polish.
When I was a kid I knew she had one lipstick that had a fake plastic vase for a cover but I never saw her even put it on. The only time she’s been to Sephora is to pick me up a gift card, and she has no idea what the products I leave on the bathroom counter when I visit are even for!
Allison says
I have a simple Bob that requires minimum styling; on mornings after I’ve gone to bed with wet hair it takes 10 minutes to flat iron the weirdness out. Otherwise I run my fingers through it and I’m done!
whome? says
My mom seems to know quite a lot about techniques, but she usually doesn’t wear much makeup. She counts on me to buy stuff for her though 🙂
Edwardine Maris Mondina says
My makeup obsession started when I saw my mom doing hers. During my high school years I didn’t mind having a bare face. As soon as I step into college my life turned in the other way. I became the girly-ish type but simple in a way. I always end up getting or asking mom to buy me my makeup stuffs. She was so so generous and she didn’t mind us (me and my two sisters) having a full makeup or some simple ones on our faces. She even encourages us to love ourselves even more. She taught us to be more confident. So me and my sisters more likely follow her. Now that I’m miles and miles and miles away from her and my sisters I want to be able to give back the love and obsession we have for makeups. I send them gifts of makeups that I tried and so so love and shared some of the tips that I use in putting makeups. We have our different styles but I’m sure for one thing we truely do love makeups ?.

Amoure Jones says
Happy Caturday Karen (and friends),
There is nothing much going on in my neck of the woods aside from nursing myself back to health. Arizona seems to have fallen victim to an outbreak of the flu and I’m one of the chosen many. So it’s hot soup, hot tea, plenty of fluids (water) and much needed rest for me.
My mom isn’t as makeup obsessed as I am which is puzzling because I’m not sure where this love of all things beauty related came from. She doesn’t mind sneaking a lipstick from my stash though or patting on a bit of pressed powder , but that’s about it. I’ve never seen mom put on any eyeshadow, blush, foundation, or mascara. And I believe she thinks eyeliner is pure evil. Mom does like getting her nails done though.
If I had a daughter I wonder if she’d be like me or my mother? Good question.
Blessings. <3

I self taught myself grammar. I wasn’t taught aspects of English writing, like clauses and semicolons, and I still have no idea what a conjunction is. BUT when I was a child I read a ton of books and have gotten through 19 years of school on intuition alone! By intuition I mean, when sentences sound wrong, I change them. 19 years is not a mistake either- at 26, I’m just finishing my second masters!
Sandy says
Happy Saturday Karen! My mom wears a little makeup, blue eyeshadow, liner, mascara and always red lipstick. She definitaly doesn’t love makeup as much as I do. I have to admit something…Ive never had a facial. (Ive always been nervous about it). I also have to admit that this is the worst winter in a long time for my skin….my face feels dry, crackly (is that a word) and flaky. I know I need a super sloughing and regeneration and the only way is via a facial. Debating on getting one ….I think it would be a major treat for me but also scares me but might be something I just need to look normal again.
Terri says
My mom doesn’t like makeup, but she does wear it on occasion. When this happens, I usually end up doing it for her :).
Tatiana says
Wow! Six interns! That’s awesome. I would love to be your intern, except that I’m dyslexic and can’t write worth beans (without a huge amount of time and effort.) Looking forward to all the new posts.
Can’t say I ever stubbed my toe in my last month of pregnancy, but I was darn tired of bumping into everything. Tables, chairs, door jambs. Everything open space seemed bigger to my eyes and smaller and tighter to my whale like belly. I think because I’m so short I just stuck out more out front, out the sides, you name it. The worst was when I was walking down the street and people would walk into my belly. I once got hit by this guy swinging his briefcase as he walked. Ugh. Soon you’ll have baby girl in your arms and you’ll be moving a bit easier. After she’s born, get El Hubs to baby-sit and get yourself a nice, wonderful massage.

Okay-So this is going to sound terrible!! But, My Mom Loved makeup-which was Great except for the fact that she could not apply it at all! My Sister and I tried to help her by teaching her correct techniques and the colors she should be wearing to compliment her! On numerous occasions we even took her for Beauty/Makeup consultations…Needless to say she would be fine for 1-2 days and then she would be right back to Bright Orange Lipstick, the Brightest Blue Eye shadow, and super bright red cheeks. To this day My sister & I still laugh about how “challenged” Mom was when it came to Make-up!! Sometimes she looked awful (picture a tall, skinny clown) we would make her wash her face & then we would do it over!!

I’m going to go with not doing bad things. I almost had a physical altercation for the first time since ever when someone came into my backyard the other day and threatened me and my dog. While I know I’m in my rights do physically harm someone who comes unbidden into my home I wasn’t sure about yard so I was defensive instead of offensive.

Hi Karen,Hey Karen,
Good luck with the baby waiting game. I am sure the waiting will be worth your while ?. I have been loving make-up from a young age. All the colors at a make-up counter can make my heart jump a beat ?. Growing up I couldn’t share my love for make-up with my mother. But, my 5 year old daughter seems to be more on my side on this. Sometimes I powder her face a little bit and I bought here a clear brow gel to use as mascara (now and then) and she loves it. Can’t wait for her to be older so that we can do make-up together (although she said I would be to old to do make-up when she’s grown up ?). I will never be to old for make-up! ?
Stacy Z says
My biggest vice is diet soda, not the healthiest habit!

Washing and styling my hair in the mornings used to take a ton of products (oil, wax, hairspray, the whole nine yards) and time, UNTIL I CHOPPED IT ALL OFF. It’s a pixie cut now and washing, drying, and styling has never been more of a breeze. I’m thinking of getting a buzz soon, so it’ll become even more low-maintenance and great for maximum laziness.
LindaLibraLoca says

My grandma used to wear a little face powder and gave me the advice when I was 17 to’not use too much make-up, because only “bad” girls did that’. I wash it every two-three days and on those mornings, I use Joico split end mender on the ends, and Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe sea salt texturizer, finger comb, and let it air dry before work. It takes maybe two minutes? On non-washy mornings, I brush it out with with Lush No Drought dry shampoo and use Carol’s Daughter black vanilla leave-in conditioner.

How long does it take me to fix my hair in the morning? Well, that depends on how much effort I put in. If I’m running behind, I just let it air dry, I’m not saying it looks good like that but it happens. If I give it my all – maybe 20 minutes. I need to hit up Sephora soon and get some new hair products. Any recommendations for a heat protectant to use with a flat iron or curling wand?

Yay Karen! Almost there! The baby waiting game is the hardest!!! I had never felt so bored in my life waiting for my daughter to be born. I took like three weeks off from work before since both my boys were two weeks early and I didn’t want my water to break in class or something. God humbled me and my “know it all attitude” that she’d be here early like her brothers and she was two days late. And I went from a 12 hour labor w the first to 6 hours w the second. I thought she’d be quick… Nope! 24 hours of labor! Curious to see what will happen w number 4 in a few months. And I still don’t have a name for him! Help!!!!
My mom doesn’t really care for makeup. My obsession makes up for the both of us!
Good luck Karen! Hang in there!!!

My mom really isn’t too interested in makeup, but funny enough, she did force me to put eyeliner on when I was a tomboy in middle school and I wanted nothing to do with makeup. She would make me choose brown or purple and then put in on me haha! I think she gets more interested now when she sees a product on me that she likes.
Cathy says
My mom isn’t interested in make-up at all. She wears a little but it’s all very neutral colors. And unfortunately my hair is not wash and go. If I’m going out I have to shampoo, dry and curl..otherwise it looks like a rats nest. It’s very thick and layered plus I have bangs. It takes about 15-20 minutes total.

My mom doesn’t like makeup at all! She was really against me wearing it as a teenager. I started working very young so that I could start buying makeup, and I taught myself everything I know from watching YouTube videos! It has been very cool because the more I wear and learn about makeup, the more interested my mom has become! She will even let me put makeup on her once in a while 🙂

My mom and I are equally obsessed with make-up. Our favourite thing to do is go shopping for new make up. Sephora is the best store for looking at make up. There is always something new to buy/look at/try out.

I remember when my girls were toddlers! Giiiiiirl, you better put those Tom Ford quads outta reach–baby girl is gonna come after them as soon as her chubby baby legs can get her there! My daughter ruined some of her clothes with my YSL lipstick. :/ Also the lipstick. But it was so darned cute, I couldn’t be mad. The other daughter stained my carpet with hot pink Sugarpill loose eyeshadow! High pigmentation is awesome on eyes, less so on carpets. 😉

Out of sheer boredom, in my youth in the Philippines, I taught myself to play several instruments. We had a huge-a*s organ (seriously, like a church organ) that my dad got from a tv show set clearance and it sat in one of the rooms of our house. In the afternoons, I would muck around with it. My sister, who is 9 years older, took lessons for a time and she had left her folders, with all the sheet music on the organ bench. By the time I was in HS, going to Catholic school and all, I was part of religious organizations and I was one of the people tasked with operating the church organ for various religious activities. That was the only thing it ever came in handy for, though. I’m not actually good enough to play for my church or anything, I think. I also learned guitar and various string instruments like the banduria/octavina. Although of those, the only thing I learned by myself was the guitar.

Cyndi says
My hair time varies… if it’s freshly washed then it takes me about 15 minutes?? Lately I’ve been embracing the curly/wavy status of my hair so I let it sit in a towel while I do my makeup, then I add a little product, scrunch while blow drying, and voila! If I need to I curl a few pieces that didn’t turn out quite how I like them. Now if I straighten my hair it takes way longer… so I haven’t been doing that as much.
Rebecca says

My mom never liked makeup. She always made a big deal about me liking makeup as if it was bad thing. Growing up I didn’t have much of a collection. Like 1 lipstick, 1 eye shadow quad, 1 foundation, 1 blush, etc. She didn’t want me to be excessive… and we were poor! If she were to see my makeup collection now…. ooooh boy. Glad I never showed her! She would disapprove!
Karen says
My mom was definitely the one that introduced me to makeup. I used to spend hours watching her do makeup in the bathroom and asking her to put some on me and help me do my makeup and hair. She definitely taught me well… I do love makeup a lot though and now, my mom will send me samples of products she’s seen to ask my opinion on them and if I think they’ll work for her! She even asked me to do her makeup the other day – which was quite a treat 🙂

Vices? I used to smoke but I successfully quit on March 31, 2009! I used to drink a little too much in social situations (never home alone in my sad pajamas). But now that I’m right smack dab in my mid-30’s, I don’t go out as much. Maybe two to three times a month I’d find myself in a bar with good friends and I’d have 3 to 4 drinks so I don’t consider it a serious vice, per se. My biggest vice nowadays is sugar and carbs in all its glorious forms!
Nicole - paleandfreckled says

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I broke 2 coffee carafes, countless glasses and cups, had bruises in places I didn’t even know you could bruise, and poured raspberry coulis in a pastry bag without a glass underneath… on my 8 months pregnant belly… My husband threatened to put me on bedrest just so that I wouldn’t break anything else and that the house would still be standing by the time I delivered! So you’re not alone 🙂 The struggle is real 😉

For Christmas, my birthday, Easter, any excuse she has she buys me the latest make up. If I do not apply it well when I am in a hurry, she will always let me know. If the color or texture doesn’t look right on my skin, she will always tell me. When I do a great job on my make up- she always praises it!

I haven’t been leaving it natural for about a year because my ex was not a fan of it. 🙁 But since he ended it a few days ago, I’m feeling the need to really let my hair down, literally and figuratively, and let my natural wavy curls shine!
And I’m much more into make up than my mom ever was, she doesn’t know where I got that bug from!

My hair is a beast and a half, it’s big, it’s bold, it has a mind of it’s own. It usually use a hair oil right after washing to tame down the frizz and add moisture to my hair. Once it’s fully dry (which takes eight to ten hours), it takes fifteen to thirty minutes to curl my hair with a curling iron.
Aimen Abbasi says
I self thought, or well watched my mom and learned how to do my eyebrows 🙂
It’s pretty easy ! But super money saver !
Stephanie Hartman says
My mom doesn’t wear any make up or really do anything with her hair, it’s a joke in our family that I came from the milkman 🙂
Rosa says
My mom does not wear any makeup whatsoever. I don’t remember when was the last time i saw her made up. Hmmmm maybe i can get her a makeover for her birthday this year? 🙂

My mom likes make up but she thinks it takes up too much of her time to do. For me, I could never get enough time to play around with make up!

I can commiserate with the waddling and toe-stubbing! I’m due in early May but feel like a whale already. There should be an award for…. all women in their 3rd trimester!

What are your vices? Mine’s definitely food. Anything with cheese, mmm! And ice cream, even in the middle of winter.
A skill for which you were self-taught? html coding.
How long does it usually take you to do your hair in the morning? I am a wash and go person, so maybe two minutes?
Does your mom like makeup as much as you do? No. *sadface* We took her to a counter once for a makeover and she bought some producs, but I don’t think she ever used them. She’s a “cake eyeliner with the wet brush and a bit of mascara” woman from the ’50s.

I remember as a young girl watching my mom get up hours before she had to go to work and sit with her cup of coffee and do her makeup. I loved watching her! Nowadays, she’s a makeup free kind of gal, though.
Michelle says
I don’t know where I got my love of dressing up and playing with new looks.
My mother never wears make-up, does not care about skincare and counts blow drying her hair as putting in a lot of effort.
Where as I rarely ever leave the house without my make-up done and have a multi-step skincare routine.

Ugh, my worst vice is drinking too much soda! Gotta drink more water! 🙂
Sandra Davis says
I always rinsed my face with water during the day to keep it fresh and that has helped it keep young with the use of skincare products.
Hard choice on the prize, love both.

Vices: red lipsticks and Alex Pettyfer (a British model-turned-actor). He’s yummy, that’s for sure!
Vi Groueva says
My mom wears red lipstick every single day, but she couldn’t care less about other makeup. She’s in the less-is-more camp for sure. I on the other hand love it all!
Kalli says
I definitely got into makeup because of my mom, but I’m way more into it. But she’s got great tastes, she uses a lot of Lancôme and Guerlain so I always like admiring her stash!
Amber Long says
Well my mother unfortunately doesn’t believe in makeup. Thankfully she has relatively good skin. I guess that makes me a late bloomer to the makeup party. Better late than never 😉 Theres not fun without eyeshadow and sexy lippies!
Rachel says
My mom wears the same makeup everyday and re-purchases her favorites when they run out, while I want to buy and try everything! She loves to look at makeup though and I’d love to treat her to some new goodies!
Efrain says
In fact most of the time she’d only use lipstick and not in a daily basis so not completely.

Shopping for make up with my mom is one of my favorite activities ever!…and the more I think about it, I’m not sure my mom knows just how much I enjoy doing this with her!
I remember, as a little girl, how much fun I had watching my mom put her make up on. Her usual routine was powder, shadow, liner, and lipstick! The basics!
Kristen says
My mom is the one who got me into lipstick, but she’s not obsessed with it the way I am.
Susan C. says
My mom is not very involved with makeup; she basically uses the same Maybelline eyebrow pencil, Cover Girl powder, and Revlon lippie she’s been using for years, with nary a change. This is over the moisturizer formerly known as Oil of Olay. Seriously, she couldn’t give two figs about the whole thing. My sister and I have tried to hook her up with modern moisturizers, stronger sunscreens, and some natural looks from Bare Minerals. She goes along with us but doesn’t care to pursue any of these things.
And you know what? She’s the most beautiful person I know. <3
Amber says
Ooh, I would love to win, my birthday is coming up! I taught myself to speak french a few years ago, now I’m hooked 🙂
