Leave a Comment for a Chance to Win a $50 Sephora E-GIFT CARD! (Ends Monday)

Published in: Giveaways, Just For Fun

This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, MEG!!!), but check back next Saturday for another giveaway.

Greetings from the seaside! I’m literally a hop, skip and a jump away from the Monterey Bay right now. I woke up this morning to the song sound of screeching seagulls outside my window because El Hub and I decided to take one lash hurrah trip before Baby Girl comes, so we drove down to Monterey a few hours south of us and left Tabs to man the office with his team of pet sitters.

I hope your 2016 got off to a good start. Oh! — some housekeeping things. First of all, you wanna enter this giveaway, because it’s the first one of the year, and you know what they say about that: “The first one is always the luckiest.”

Actually…I don’t know if that’s something they say…but I still haven’t picked a winner for this week’s mega super $250 mystery makeup giveaway yet, so the winner could still be you. Stay tuned. When I get back from my trip, I’ll assist Tabs with that.

OK, the smell of decaf is calling me, so I’m gonna go get ready for the aquarium. I’ll tell the otters you said, “Hey, girl, haaaaay!” Talk to you soon.

  • One (1) Sephora eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

  • Enter by leaving a comment below.
  • Open to U.S. and international readers.
  • You must be 18 or older to enter (or otherwise an adult based on your local laws).
  • Your comment can be about anything at all, but here are some ideas if you’re stuck:

    • Still or sparkling water?
    • When was the last time you rocked a scrunchie?
    • What’s the most unusual pet you’ve ever had?
    • Lipgloss or liquid lipstick?
    • How old were you when you got your ears pierced?
    • Do you have any birthmarks?
  • One entry per person.
  • You must use a valid email address to win.

Hi Karen! I watched an old video about you talking about the La Croix sparkling waters and literally went to Target right after the video was finished. That stuff is bombdotcom!! πŸ™‚

    • Urna says:

I simply prefer lipstick over lipgloss because it is not as slippery as the gloss. Also lipstick stays longer and since it is more pigmented you can play with colors. Right now I am in love with my Maybelline blushing beige lipstick!

  2. MARIA says:

liquid lipstick all the way <3

Definitely still water. Sparkling water tastes like gross soda. Yuck!

The most unusual pet I’ve ever had is definitely my cat right now πŸ™‚ He loves to sit on everything and the little fluffball likes to play games with us! Whenever we let him outside without a leash and start walking towards him to bring him back home, he’ll wait until we ALMOST catch up to him and then start running as quickly as he can while low to the ground!! 47. Sandy says:

Hi Karen and Happy New Year to you! I had my ears pierced as a baby, that was customary for my family. I’m having a hard time getting used to the matte liquid lipstick. I have one but always put a small amount of lipgloss over it because a girl’s gotta have some shine! My favorite lipstick formula is MAC’s Lustre, the perfect fit for me.

I found a beautiful moth once (or it may have been a butterfly… This was in the years before google) with a broken wing and kept him in a plastic bowl and took him outside every day to put on flowers. He would walk down the petals and stick out his long tongue and drink and then walk back up the petal onto my hand. He was a great pet tbh I even took him on a family road trip vacation! That’s gotta be my strangest pet haha

  54. Kris says:

We’ve had several squirrels as pets raising a few of them by hand. One even gave birth to a litter in my closet. She rested for approx 24 hrs and then took them to a nest outaide the next day. There were 5 babies which looked like little peanuts πŸ™‚

  74. Becky Potts Baker says:

Liquid lipsticks and some lip glosses, too.

  75. Rocelia says:

Lipstick, all the way! Matte, preferably. The thought of my hair doing the tango on my face with the lipgloss, not cute!

  76. Nicole says:

I love the look of liquid lipsticks, but my perpetually dry lips insist that gloss is a better idea.

  77. Janet Shepherd says:

I use scrunchies at night to put my hair in a high, loose ponytail. Other than that, it would’ve been back in the 90’s.

I’m actually a lipstick girl all the way, but if I had to choose, I’d prob go lipgloss. I don’t like the feel of liquid lipsticks.

Hope you & El Hub enjoy your break, it sounds lovely!

  78. Kara says:

    I like sparkling water best!

  79. MarciaF says:

I’m over the matte lipstick trend. It looks great if you have young beautiful lips but as you age and your lips get smaller it just shows all the lines. Sad but true.

  86. Claudia Longoria says:

We had the most cutest gray & white kitten- a polydactyl kitten- just like Ernest Hemingway had!!! He had seven toes in both front paws so we named him Seven. I became so attached to this kitten that he became “my kitten” for his entire 19 years!!

  87. Erica says:

My first ear piercing was when I was 10 years old. I was 14 when I got my second ear piercing without my parents permission. My mother was totally upset. 30+ years later she still doesn’t get it. If she only knew about the other piercings….lol.

  88. INCI says:

I don’t like lipgloss because of how it feels.
    Never rocked a scrunchie. :/ πŸ˜€

  89. Hazel says:

I love lipstick today in my life, as a teen I wore gloss because it was cheaper. But the new lipsticks today are so much better, we have a wider variety of colors and can get the look of shiny lips without the sticky mess gloss gives.

  90. Allison says:

I am sick as a dog and bummed because I had been planning to go get some piercings done today for my birthday πŸ™ Lol. It is on Tuesday and I do not feel good about it… I also just don’t feel good… good thing I have kitty cuddles x.x

  93. Fran says:

I was in my early 20s when I got my ears pierced, and couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t getting any grief about it from my parents when I saw my family again, until I saw my great-aunt Gertrude — in her 70s, she had gotten her ears pierced, too!

  94. Missy says:

Still or sparkling water? – Still, unless it’s lemon flavored and icy cold, then sparking is good!
When was the last time you rocked a scrunchie? Last year, before I chopped off all my hair. I wore them every night to keep my hair on top of my head so I didn’t choke myself with it/lay on it/ have the cats/husband lay on it.
What’s the most unusual pet you’ve ever had? 2 rats, box turtle
Lipgloss or liquid lipstick? Liquid Lipstick, KVD’s ELLs are my favorite!
How old were you when you got your ears pierced? Ummm…I have no idea! I know I was probably in middle school.

  99. I was 19 years old when I got my ears pierced for the first time and 20 years when I got my second hole.

  100. Julie says:

Happy New Year, Karen! I’m definitely a lip gloss gal. You can put it on without a mirror and just go!

  101. Mitzi says:

Happy 2016 to you! That’s a great way to spend the weekend – in Monterey. I hope you, El Hub and Baby Girl have a blast at the aquarium exhibits! Last time I was there (about 2 years ago), one mischievous little otter kept following me around in his pool. Guess he thought I was one of the aquarium feeders? lol

Speaking of otters, did you read about a wild otter that gave birth in the outdoor tidepool recently (12/22)? She swam into the the sheltered cove to escape the storms, and then gave birth. I’m not sure if she’s still there or not, but what a good mama otter! She knew where it would be safe. πŸ™‚

  102. Aurelie Red says:

    Happy new year Karen !
So… I was 17 years old when I got my ears pierced… My mum didn’t like it… at all ! But finally it was my present for my 17th birthday β™₯

  103. Patrycja Chudziak says:

I love sparkling water (actually drinking some right now) and lipgloss! Lipstick just doesn’t work for me, I don’t like the heavy feeling of it either, I have dozens of awesome glosses!

  106. Marija Jevtic says:

My parents got my ears pierced when i was a baby…. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜†

  107. Sandy P says:

So glad you are getting away! But just remember you took sweet pea with you everywhere while pregnant so don’t be afraid to get out and about and take her with you when she arrives. When we traveled in Europe several years ago all I drank was “Water with bubbles”..as they called it. But I prefer still water here since I usually have bottles in the car, on my nightstand and on an end table. I’m not into lip gloss as it just feels too sticky. I prefer a stain. Did I mention that I made a trip to Sephora last week while visiting in Indy?? Oh my, I am going to have to hit it up rather then Ulta.

  108. Tatiana says:

    Still water.
Hope you’re enjoying the Monterey Bay Aquarium. That place is so much fun. I love the otter feedings, the jelly fish and all the little kids running around having fun. That place is filled with the sound of joy! If you have time driving home (and if these are on Baby Girl’s GD diet) you should stop at Pezzini Farms for deep fried baby artichokes with aioli dipping sauce. They’re on Nashua Rd. just off of Hwy.1, the last exit before Hwy 156 heads over to 101. They also have a farm stand with tons of veggies. Last time I was there avocados were 7 for $1.00.

  109. Lizett Juarez says:

I could wear any type of liquid lipstick πŸ™‚ I’m so in love with them I don’t even mind them drying my lips out lol

  110. Paulina Rios says:

Happy New Year Karen!! Liquid lipstick! My ears were pierced when I was a baby, but when I was 17 years old I got my second hole on both ears and months later a third hole in one ear.

  111. Susan P. says:

I got my ears pierced in college. Back then we didn’t have Piercing Pagoda so my roommate (studying to be a nurse) did it, using a big sewing needle and ice. That’s what we did back then.

  112. Trude says:

Lately I’ve been doing either lip balm or lipstick, because it’s so dry! But I got the Clarins lip oil for Xmas and it’s helped a lot. Highly recommend. πŸ™‚

  114. Brittany says:

Happy New Year Karen! Without your blog I would have been lost when it comes to product swatches and how shades actually look on deeper complexions. I hope you and the hubby have a wonderful year with the baby girl coming and whatever other surprises the year may bring!

  115. Rosemary says:

A relaxing trip before Baby Girl arrives = excellent idea. I used to live in CA and miss it, especially the weather. Never did get to the Aquarium. πŸ™ Enjoy!

Ears pierced at 15, I rocked a scrunchie just the other day, I like still water and lip gloss.

  116. Angie says:

I wear a scrunchie every night to hold up my curly hair in a “pineapple” lol. It’s perfect! It keeps my curls from straightening out and leaves no creases and my hair looks just as good as it did the day before!

  117. Quimerula says:

    Sparkling, please!

  118. Princess says:

Definitely lipgloss! Liquid lipsticks are far too drying for me!

When I was about 12, I had a ball python named Axen, he was quite adorable. Sadly, my parents made me give him away.

  121. Elizabeth E says:

I used to like diet soda when I was younger but then I made the switch to sparkling water and never looked back. I loooovvee the bubbles. Can’t do a day without a little sparkling water. πŸ™‚ Thanks for posting!

  122. Lisa says:

Still water please! I don’t like carnation at all.

  123. Karenine says:

    Sparkling water all the way!

  124. Cory says:

Still & all emollient lip products! I’m currently hooked on Evian (the 1L/1Q that come in a 6-pk) and Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask in champagne! Still water is so thirst-quenching, & I like my lips to feel comfortable πŸ™‚

Enjoy Monteray! I love the drive up and down the coast of California! I’d even take the 101 at this point lol!

I prefer still water and liquid lipstick! I got my ears pierced when I was in 2nd grade.

  126. Nailah says:

    Happy new years!
I’m definitely foot sparking over still, but it still needs some flavour to it! I hate the taste of water on its own and I can barely stomach it straight.
    Thanks for the generosity!

  127. Virginia says:

    Still water, thanks.

  128. Monica says:

I’ve been preferring liquid lipsticks over lip gloss lately!

  129. Mary W says:

Sparkling water. No lip gloss. I do adore Too Faced Melted lipsticks. They last along time and have great bold colors. I would use the Sephora card to buy more colors since they carry a nice line of Too Faced products.

  130. Cyndi says:

I got my ears pierced when I was 7 as it was our birthday present from our Nana. Since then I’ve gotten them pierced them a couple more times on each side.

  131. Michaela says:

Hi Karen & a Happy New Year to you. I’m glad you ‘ El Hub are taking a trip before Baby Girl makes her debut. Something my husband ‘ I did before our baby girl was born. Treasure those times you have together because after Baby Girl arrives most of your time will be with the baby. In regards to one of your questions I’d prefer sparkling water especially at a restaurant so I can pretend I’m somewhere off the coast of Italy somewhere. Ha ha! Ciao Bella!

  132. Sandie says:

Still water and still looking for the perfect liquid lipstick! Hoping the new Mac ones are it.

  133. Terri says:

    I love sparkling water!

  134. Bonnie Clyne says:

Hello from windy Alaska! Your little getaway sounds like a great idea and please tell the otters that I say hi back to them!!

I had a pet hedgehog 40 years ago when we lived in England for a year. This was a regular hedgehog, not like the little mini, trendy ones you see now. We kept him in the shed and yard and I don’t remember his name, which surprises me.

Good luck to all on the big giveaway, I’m not sure I entered it….hmmm.

  135. Lynn T. says:

    Happy 2016!!!
I really really want to try liquid lipstick, i never liked lipgloss because it felt sticky and i don’t like shiny lips.

I got my ears pierced at 12, 19, & 24. (3 holes!) And I’m wearing a brown scrunchee right now. I don’t care if they’re ‘in’ or not- I wear a ponytail most of the time and scrunchees don’t break my hair like bands do.

  137. Stacie says:

I love San Pelligrino sparkling water. I had my ears pierced at about 11 years old, at the Merle Norman studio.

  138. Meg says:

I think I was 7 when I got my ears pierced. And I remember freaking out every time my mom tried to change them for me LOL. Needless to say I had them re-done several times because I let them close up hahaha

  141. Christy Peeples DuBois says:

Liquid lipstick for me rather than gloss. I love the way a gloss looks and feels however I do not like to leave gunk on my cup/glass/etc and then have to reapply with a gloss so I skip glosses. Hope you are having a wonderful time!!

  142. Jaymie says:

Got my ears pierced when I went to college!!

  143. Olivia M says:

I got my ears pierced when I was around three years old.. now I don’t even wear earrings lol

  144. gissddiaz says:

When I was younger my eyes used to shine whenever I’d see lipgloss. It was the most magical makeup starter item for a young girl like myself. As I grew older the more I tried out and used liquid lipstick, lipgloss became cheap looking to me. No matter what brand, color, or the cost it would always be that. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad I started out somewhere. Now that I’m older I’d definitely say liquid lipstick is the way to go!

When I was 15, I really wanted a second piercing in my earlobe. So I Googled how to pierce your own ears and did it myself with the earrings that were used to pierce my ears the first time and a potato. I was lucky that it didn’t end up infected!

  154. Vipattra says:

Happy New Year! I was 7 or when I got my ears pierced (kinda late, I know) and I’m definitely a liquid lipstick girl! I can deal with the dryness in exchange for not getting my hair all stuck up in my lip product.

  156. Stacy Z says:

    Sparkling water and liquid lipstick!

  157. Mackenzie says:

Happy New Year! I’ve actually never tried sparkling water, but I should definitely add that to my ‘to do in 2016 list’. I am also a huge, huge fan of liquid lipstick. I love how opaque it looks on the lips and how easy it is to apply. I’ve obsessed with trying tons of different brands and formulas of liquid lipsticks lately!

I have a beauty mark right above my lip on the left side. πŸ™‚ Thanks for the chance to win!

HAPPY NEW YEAR Ladies & Gentlemen!

  162. Tracy Robertson says:

I have a birth mark that looks like a spotted maple leaf on my right calf. I hated it when I was a kid, because kids make fun of everything different, so I use to cover it with 2 Band Aids when I would go swimming. I’m okay with it now. People usually ask me if it’s a “motorcycle burn” or a “tattoo”. I tell them it’s a tattoo from God.

  163. Bex D says:

Hi Karen & family. Happy New Year from the UK!

  168. Kim Pincombe Cole says:

    Happy New Year!
I broke our kitchen chandelier today, while attempting to remove the Christmas greenery on it – so I’m in the doghouse with my husband, lol. On the bright side, I’m getting a new chandelier!
As far as water & lip colors, I prefer sparkling with a great lipgloss…

  169. Chelsea says:

I can’t stand carbonated beverages! They hurt my throat, and have done so ever since I was a little kid, so I’ve never liked soda, sparkling water, etc. One of my former workplaces had a sparkling water machine that was very popular though, people would just add their own flavors to it.

One of the only phrases I know in German is to specify that I want still, non-sparkling water.

  170. Michelle L says:

    Another vote for sparkling water.

  171. Sue McKibben says:

My most unusual pet is actually a three-legged cat. I now a cat is not an unusual pet. However, as a child, I had a cat that got caught in a trap and had to have it’s front paw amputated. A number of years ago I got 2 cats (both rescues) and my one tried to jump onto an entertainment center and missed and fell onto a vase and severed her hind leg – which had to be amputated. So, I have actually had 2 cats with three-legs. After some tender loving care, they both got along great. I still have my most recent three-legged cat and she is doing great!

  172. Karleena says:

I was only three months old when my parents got my ears pierced for me! Happy New Year πŸ™‚

  173. Alison B. says:

My roommate and I kept a pet chinchilla in our dorm room our sophomore year of college. We didn’t get caught until the day we moved out, and by then the RA didn’t bother to punish us for something we’d kept hidden so carefully for so long.

  174. Amy says:

    Still water, definitely.

  189. Kayla G says:

I definitely prefer liquid lipstick over lipgloss! I love the way lipgloss looks but hate it when the wind blows my hair into it and makes a sticky mess.

  190. Shaun Biddle says:

I had a chameleon when I was a kid! His name was Sidney and he was so neat!

  191. Sylvia says:

Still water. Lipgloss all the way. I had a pet rat named Spigot in college. Scrunching every night. I got my ears pierced and then my mom took me to see The Karate Kid, the original. Saw a cat at an adoption fair today with seven toes on each of his front paws. His name is Frank and he is one cool cat.

Original New York Seltzer Water, you know like from the 80’s? So glad they’re making it again. Raspberry and Black Cherry are my favorite flavors. They sell it at Winco and World Markets. 195. Emily says:

I like both, but I do love sparkling water!

  196. Maze of Life says:

Hi Karen! Happy New Year! Hope you have fun in Monterey, especially the awesome view of the Pacific Ocean and awesome clam chowder!

If I had to choose water, it would have to be sparkling water. I was once an avid soda drinker (eek!) but now transitioning into something with less sugar…sparkling H2O is now my go to.

I’ve had my ears pierced since I was 8….horrid experience, since it got infected twice. However, they’re still pierced, and I still wear earrings every now and then. πŸ™‚

Hope your 2016 is a blast for you, El Hub, and also to the readers out there! πŸ™‚

I first got my ears pierced as a baby & I got my second hole when I was in high school.

  201. Alice says:

Still water please. I’m always bitterly disappointed when I have sparkling water. The carbonation makes me think of soda so I’m always left wondering how I got tricked again.
Hope you had fun in Monterey. Too bad it’s not warmer for you guys.

    Hi Karen,
    Happy New Year πŸŽ‰,
I like Daisani Sparkling Water : Black Cherry!
I never had an unusual pet but I went crabbing with my grandfather and brought home a turtle.
I never wore scrunchies but I did use them on my daughter and still have them in a container. I love lipgloss! And have tons of colors . Every time I shop I purchase yet another one . My daughter says I always stay in the same color range !
I was 17 and in nursing school when my ears were pierced with an 18 G needle by my friend . I have 4 more holes now!
I have a birthmark on my cheek .

  205. marta says:

    Sparkling water and lipgloss!

  206. Blanca says:

Ok .. during my third trimester i began to crave soda… oh boy “any soda” I am fully aware that soda is not something someone should be drinking everyday. So I am glad when you brought up that you drink sparkling waters from crox. I will say i wasn’t a fan of the taste but it helped kill my craving… I am now fully addicted to not only the crox flavors but i enjoy a good sparkling water. THANK YOU! I can’t imagine what i would have done…

  213. Rina says:

    Sparking water please.

  214. Bertha says:

I think I was 11 or 12 when I got my ears pierced. My mom didn’t believe that mall piercing guns were sanitary so she did it at home with an ice cube and sewing needle! I’m still traumatized!

  215. Rose S says:

Honestly, I’m so into liquid lipsticks but I feel like the specific formula that works with my lips is still a distant dream. Closest thing I’ve ever had was KVD Luv.

  216. Eucinea Lima says:

    Happy New Year everyone!
I love lipstick, powder eye shadow and I’m still learning many makeup tricks!
As a child I had birds, dogs and a baby monkey, who lost his mother, as pets.
I had my ear pierced when I was born.
Let’s continue making the world colorful and beautiful!

  217. Felis says:

I had a squirrel for a while! It followed me home from the park and lived in a tree outside my house. I’d come outside and it would sit on my shoulder while we ate mixed nuts.

  218. Tania G says:

Happy New Year and enjoy your time away!! I got my ears pierced at around 9 years old for the second time. First time I was younger and it got infected and I let them grow in. then at 9, I wanted them again.

  219. Anna T. says:

Both lipstick AND lipgloss! They’re equally flattering as long as you’ve got the right colors. πŸ˜€

  220. Mary W says:

Happy New Year! The age requirement for ear piercing in my house was 12. I remember my mother taking me to a salon and having my ears pierced on my birthday. I felt like such a grown up.

  221. Brenda says:

Hi Karen, I read your blog today and I just want you to know that I follow your advice and expertise on make up on a regular basis. I love the Monterrey Bay Area and I have been there many times visiting family. When I need any make up, I head for the Carmel Macy’s. I especially enjoy the dogs that are allowed to be inside the stores! Enjoy your trip and looking forward to baby girl!

  222. Susan Christy says:

Happy New Year! I got my ears pierced when I was in the 6th grade. That was in 1970 and the only person that pierced ears in our small town was the family doctor. He was very precise – measured my earlobes, marked the spots with a pen.

  223. MelodyJ says:

I got my ears pierced when I was 9 years old for my birthday at the Piercing Pagoda in the mall.

  224. Brian says:

Although I am loving some of the new liquid lipstick formulas, I still prefer lip gloss. My first product in my foray into makeup and I don’t have to worry if my lips are a bit dry when wearing one.

  225. Veronica Roman says:

The most unique pet I’ve had was Pepper the chinchilla. He was a sweetheart and super smart. We had him for 8 years before he passed away.

We have a Rooster Named Joe

How old were you when you got your ears pierced?
My mom pierced my ears in the hospital before I left the hopspital after I was born

    Do you have any birthmarks?

  229. Lorraine says:

Scrunchies are indispensable! I am wearing one now, just got back from the dance studio, stretching out with my scrunchie on. They are perfect to keep hair out of my way when I am cooking in the kitchen, exercising(on the rare day I do) or in place of a shower cap(more eco friendly than a plastic shower cap, too).

  230. CL says:

My ears aren’t pierced. (I’m not into unnecessary pain.) Also, my mother never had her ears pierced, either.

  231. Jennifer says:

Okay, I don’t know where Filipino culture stands with ear-piercing or your personal preference but I must share my experience with you.

I was four when my parents let me get my ears pierced and that was way too young, in my opinion. The holes were always getting infected and I tried and tried to let the holes grow back and they never would.

I probably wouldn’t have gotten them done so young but my best friend at the time’s mother worked at a jewelry store and did it free of charge.

Anyhoo, that’s all I’ll say. I hope you guys had a great break. Hugs to Tabs.

Can’t stand sparkling water. It tastes like icky water. I’m still working on the art of liquid lipsticks. I swear I’m doing this wrong, so for skill level, it has to be lip gloss. Thanks for this giveaway as always!

  234. Gina B. says:

Hi Karen – glad to hear you are having a trip seaside…. I’m leaving for Fla in about 8 days. I prefer still water… and liquid lipstick. I’m wearing MAC old version now — it literally wears until you take it off. Beautiful colors though!!!

    I prefer liquid lipstick.
I had my first ear pearcing at age 13.
And i had a ferret as a pet. Unfortunatly they are illegal in California(they are exotic) and i couldnt bring him here when i moved πŸ™ i still cry about it.

  237. Diane says:

Lipgloss. I’m a bit of an addict. πŸ™‚

  238. Jordi says:

I will wear my Washington Nationals scrunchie to a game, but I’m not sure about out of the house otherwise. Instead, I’ve found myself accumulating a few of the polytailers that look like phone cords (various brands) and having college dorm key bracelet flashbacks.

  239. Diana says:

I wear a scrunchie every night. I make a high ponytai and split it in half I spray the halves with a little water and roll each half in a foam roller. I leave in all night and in the morning I have some nice curl that lasts all day. (My hair is fine so I can get away with that.)

  240. Ashley says:

I am going to Vegas on Monday

  241. Emily says:

Both! Depends on the look I’m going for and where I’m going! I never wear lipgloss on windy days, though. Learned that one the hard way.

  242. Jill says:

Happy New Year! For me, it’s always liquid lipstick! No matter what I’m wearing I feel like it is the one thing that really pulls my look together.

  243. Lisa C says:

Most unusual pet would be my beautiful ferret which I still have! Love him to pieces even though he’s more of a handful than a 2 year old lol

  244. Hollie says:

I can remember getting my ears pierced when I was about 7. I remember sitting in the chair wanting to get it done so bad but totally scared to death at the same time. My hands kept covering up my ears until I gathered enough courage to uncover them. This went on for about 15 min when finally my mom said,” it’s now or we are leaving” I tearfully have in and walked away proud of my new throbbing pierced ears!!! When my daughters were born, I knew right away they were getting theirs done as infants. Right after their 3 month vaccinations we were off to get them done. It may sound mean to some but they never remember the pain. I took good care of them so the piercing were never infected! As they were getting older they had no idea that their earrings were even there. They just grew up with them in and when bogey got older they loved them as they still do today.

  245. Stephanie says:

Liquid lipstick, I used to really like lip gloss but now I can’t stand anything sticky on my lips.

Cats are the only pet I’ve ever had, we talk about having goats and donkey’s someday. LOL

  246. Aarti says:

Both! It depends on my mood and activity. For work I mostly use liquid lipsticks because of how long lasting they are and I think the matte look makes me look and feel more polished. For the weekend, bring on the lipgloss! I typically go for a natural look on the weekends (concealer, blush, and mascara) so need something easy going and shiny to top it off.

  247. Cathy says:

Happy New Year! Definitely lip gloss I really never liked liquid lipstick because it’s too harsh. And I wear a scrunchie every night-to hold my hair back to wash my face :)). I had to wait until I was 13 to get my ears pierced. It was torture waiting because all my friends had their eyes pierced- so in the meantime my mom appeased me by buying magnetic earrings which always fell off. I was so happy when I turned 13!!

  248. BJW says:

    I think, generally, still water.

  249. Allysa says:

Hey Karen! Happy New Year to you and the family. I’m completely jealous of your Monterey trip right now. What I’d give to spend some time on a non-frozen beach. It’s going to be -25 (Celsius, because Canada) with the windchill in Toronto on Monday. Let that sink in. This weather is physically hurting me. I haven’t seen the sun in weeks. Weeks, Karen! Winter has come, and I hate every bit of it.

I’ve never really been a gloss girl, to be honest. Of course, I had my fair share when I started getting into makeup, but I haven’t found a formula that isn’t sticky or doesn’t move around the mouth or ball up and settle into lines. Plus, wind + lip gloss = a messy situation, especially if it’s something super sticky. So, matte liquid lipsticks all the way! I’m so happy brands are jumping on the bandwagon this year, because there’s so much variety now compared to when I first started getting into matte lips. I still remember seeing Kat von D’s original line of liquid lippies and freaking out. Bright colours AND something that’ll stay on through the day? Sign me up! Lolita was my first purchase, and I couldn’t get over how well it stayed on. Now, I’ve branched out into ColourPop – literally, their liquid lipsticks are a GODSEND – and I’m eagerly awaiting the return of Kat von D’s expanded colour selection to Sephora.

I can’t wait for baby girl to arrive! Hopefully she’s not giving you too much trouble yet, other than the whole sugar ban. Sending you lots of love!

  250. Andee Hernandez says:

  255. Kalli says:

I was 27 when I got my ears pierced! So like, four years ago. I actually had them pierced when I was 10, but they healed up almost immediately and then I just never got around to getting them done again. Anyway, this last time I went hard core and did it at a tattoo parlor where they free-handed it with a (super sterilized) needle and no numbing stuff. It was pretty cool and didn’t hurt at all!

I got the Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte lipgloss in my stocking for christmas. I love it! I got the Nude Allude color.
I got my ears pierced as an infant- mother said prolly between the age of 6-8 months. I was a bald baby so she said earrings saved her from nosy strangers, inquiring if I was a boy or a girl- even if I was donned in a pink ensemble. I had a second piercing when I was 16 and a third at 17. The last one has since healed up after I changed my mind about it. Second piercing got useful again (this year) with the advent of ear crawlers. Happy and safe travels!

  261. Rachel says:

I got my ears pierced when I was 5. My grandmother took me to get it done and afterwards, she decided that maybe she should have asked my mom first! So, she had me call my mom at work and ask her if I could get them pierced. Mom said it was ok if it was really what I wanted to do. My response? “Good, because I already did!!” I’m pretty sure my mom didn’t speak to my grandmother (after screaming at her for a few minutes) for at least a week afterwards! LOL

My grandmother passed away this year and I really miss her. She was really into beauty and was the only woman in my life to wear makeup, so I blame her for my obsession!! <3

  262. Jennifer Pham says:

Hi! Although I love liquid lipsticks and glosses, my favorite is a hybrid between – sort of a very pigmented glossy finish.

  263. NFJ says:

What’s the most unusual pet you’ve ever had?

A beautiful lichen I found on a log in my grandmother’s magical garden. She gave me a little tapestry covered square pill box on a gold key chain to keep him in. I’d open it and pet him and talk to him. His name was Michael. One day the clasp broke,(from my constant open and closing of the box), he’d fallen out and I hadn’t noticed. I was heartbroken! I eventually got a dog which was a more “normal” pet. I have always loved nature and shared that love with my daughter who is becoming a botanist. She loves the story of Mike the Lichen! Great question Karen and Tabs!

  264. Cindy says:

If lipstick didn’t exist and I had to choose between lipgloss and liquid lipstick ONLY, I’d go liquid lipstick all the way. And I never had my ears pierced . . . πŸ˜‰

  265. Jackie Sakalauskas says:

Sparkling water – seltzer actually – is my daily go to! For some reason water tastes better with tiny bubbles dancing around in it….drink so much of it each day I had to go buy a SodaStream with all the bells and whistles. Gotta keep up with my selter habit ya know!

  266. Mai says:

Still water for sure! If I wanted to drink something sparkly, I’d go straight for a flavored soda.

Also, I have both liquid lipstick and gloss and wear the former more often recently.

  267. Deanna says:

I had an African dwarf frog. He was awesome.

  268. Skygazer says:

    Lipgloss all the way!!

  269. Annie says:

My most unusual pet i’ve ever had is a baby chick.

  270. Jennifer says:

    I loveeee liquid lipstick.

  272. Amy Z. says:

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  273. Maria J. says:

I’ve recently gotten into liquid lipsticks and I like some from certain brands, but I’ve loved wearing lip gloss a little more ever since I was a teen!

  274. bearby says:

I had a rabbit as a pet when I was little. Even though I kept the rabbit in a box, it jumped up to my bed every night!

  275. Autumn Sehy says:

I have a birthmark! It’s a cafe au lait spot on half of my face. Somebody tells me at least once a month that I need to fix my makeup because they think the spot is bronzer or foundation—it’s hilarious when they realize their mistake!

  276. Jocey says:

definitely liquid lipsticks! im absolutely nuts about lip products and i own far too many of them and liquid lipsticks have to be my favorites! i feel like they give you way better lasting color and theyre better for funky colors like purples and blues rather than a standard red because of that

  277. margarita says:

My parents had my ears pierced at 3 months old, and my mom said it was because I was a bald baby girl, and she got fed up with everyone thinking I was a boy!

  278. Hes says:

Sparkling water all the way! Happy New Year!

  279. Rhoda K says:

Always still water for me πŸ™‚

  280. Laurinha says:

  281. Karen says:

I was 11 when I got my ears pierced….it was a surprise birthday present from my parents and I was so excited!

  282. sheila ressel says:

I was 12 when I got my ears pierced and it hurt like heck!

  283. Piper says:

I had what some people might consider a unique pet for many years. A savannah monitor called Dinky. It’s a type of lizard. Dinky was about 2 feet long, not counting tail length.

  284. Nikolina says:

Still or sparkling water? Always the still one! πŸ™‚

  285. Katy Barnes says:

Hi! Still, last week, ginnie pig, four, and top inside of my right thigh lol. Happy NEW YEAR!!

  286. Deniz says:

Mos def sparkling water. Even my toddler wants it now instead of still water. LOL!

  287. mags says:

Liquid lipstick over lip gloss ALL DAY! Hate all that stickiness with gloss. The worse is when your hair gets sticks to it and then gets all over your face. What’s your favorite liquid lipstick formula?

  288. Jo Cayabyab says:

Got my ears pierced when I was a junior in high school. And only because it was the prom the next day. Gaaaah the things I do for beauty haha! Happy new year!

  289. Daria says:

still water! I used to be addicted to sparkling water but I kept reading how bad for my body it was so one day I just stopped drinking it and I haven’t ever since

  290. Lily Cardozo says:

    Matte Liquid Lipstick <3

  291. Danielle says:

I hate carbonation, so still water! And I have a velvet leopard print scrunchie that is worn probably once a week!

  292. Nathalia says:

    Team liquid lipsticks!

  293. Lynda says:

    Happy New year!

  294. Lisa Foster says:

I had to wait until age 16 to get my ears pierced. My mother took me to a store called Gemco to get that done.

  295. Hi Karen! I used to drink only sparkling water, but now I prefer still. Makes me feel less bloated and allows me to eat more, haha.

Lip gloss for me any day! i love it..i can wear bold and unusual colours and get away with it bcoz gloss is sheer.. i can use it to pare down bright lippies.. it makes my lips look juicy and full.. it makes my makeup look more youthful..
So i tend to overlook the stickiness and flyaway hair problems..
I love glosses ..even for layering over red lipsticks..

  297. Whitney says:

Hi Karen. The most unusual pet that I had was a Ferret. It was pretty cool to have at first, but I didn’t know at the time it was a hunter and wanted to play at night! It would crawl under the covers at night and wanted to “hunt” or play.

  298. Lisa Simon says:

The rule in my house was you had to be 16 to get your ears pierced, however my father took pity on me since my new pixie haircut made me look like a boy – so at 12 I was allowed to get my ears pierced. My older sister was furious as she had had to wait until she was 16!

  299. AmyBS says:

It’s been a long time since I rocked a scrunchie but I was just thinking yesterday how much I miss them!

  300. Amanda says:

    <3 lipgloss

  301. Danie says:

so excited for baby girl to arrive, having read your blog for so long I feel part of the family!

Lots of love from Uruguay, Dani πŸ™‚

  302. Renee says:

Still water and if its flavored, that’s a bonus! Lip gloss, I love shiny, glossy lips. Liquid lipstick is a little drying for my taste. I don’t think I have worn a scrunchie in a while…Ears pierced at around 7 years, and have been double pierced since then. I sure do miss my scrunchie, though…

  303. Lorna says:

That cat that you love so much right now….after baby comes, your feline friend will suddenly become kind of annoying. Eventually the love comes back but don’t be surprised or feel guilty when you don’t feel so feline friendly for a bit!

  304. Devis says:

Liquid lipstick for sure! Lip gloss is pretty on other people but to me it’s so goopy and uncomfortable. I have a pretty large makeup collection but have like 2 glosses total πŸ˜› I also got my ears pierced when I was young, don’t remember exactly but maybe when I was 6? Happy New Year Karen! I’ve been a follower of your blog for years πŸ™‚

    Hate lipgloss…..definitely liquid lipstick,

  311. Kristina says:

Hello Karen! Happy 2016, it’s going to be an amazing one for you, Hub, and baby girl!
I have a birthmark on the back of my neck right where my hairline stops. Luckily it’s small but the most interesting thing is that my daughter Olivia was born with the exact same one in the exact same place! It was so crazy but the fact that we both have it and in the same place is ironic. We talk about it, laugh about it and thinks it’s pretty cool. You never know what things whether it’s expressions, hands, toes, eye color, hairline or in my case birthmarks will be passed on to your kiddos— it’s interesting and shocking at the same time. It’s really cool to see and experience . I’m sure you will and you will be amazed!
Sparkling water for sure either lecroix because of the really delicious flavors or San pelligrino.
My mom pierced my ears at age 1. Italian tradition thing. I didn’t do the same for my daughter and she’s 12 and still hasn’t gotten them pierced!
Lipgloss for sure- I especially love Bobbi brown and bare escentuals!
Scrunchie- brings back memories as I was a cheerleader and the scrunchie totally rocked in those days which for me was the 80s! Ha!

  312. Alicia Worobetz says:

I love sparkling water … Add a splash of apple or orange juice for a twist!

  313. TrippyPixie says:

Still water! Whenever I go to Europe, the only kind of water they give me to drink is carbonated mineral water…ugh. (I finally found still mineral water the last time I was there, but mineral water tastes pretty funky.)

  314. Liz says:

Is a snake an “unusual pet?”

  315. Earth Cruz says:

Still water at room temperature. I’m terrible at staying hydrated so when I remember I guzzle

  316. Rosie says:

The most unusual pet I had was a baby robin named Peep Peep that had been abandoned, and couldn’t yet fly. We’d feed her dog food mixed with milk and she really perked up. We took her on our vacation to Cape Cod, too! I helped her learn to fly by giving her a boost off my finger up into the air.

  317. Kim Henrichs says:

    Still water all the way!
    Happy new year!

  318. jeanie says:

I like to mix it up — still water is my default but sparkling water to break it up. Happy New Year!

  319. Shauna says:

I would love to find the perfect red lipstick to wear, but have tried and just don’t feel confident enough to rock it!! Looking for something that looks good on blue eyed, blonde hair, medium skin, without looking over-the-top…Thinking Gwen Stefani look, but need to find the right shade/type!! Any suggestions?

  320. Justine says:

Liquid lipstick! I rarely wear gloss but maybe I should start!

  321. Helene says:

Had to dig out the picture to confirm: I was 5 when I got my ears pierced. It was a beautiful Hindu ceremony of Karnavendha, typically performed when a child is 3 or 5 years old.

  322. Sara munIz says:

The last time I rocked a scrunchie was in 8th grade lol.

  323. Mill says:

still water, ears pierced when I was 7, and haven’t rocked a scrunchie since I was about 10…

  324. Lisa M. says:

I am liking the La Croix sparkling water. It has enough flavor to be drinkable to me. The passionfruit is my favorite. Enjoy your weekend!

  325. A_N says:

The most unusual pet I ever owned were Roborovski hamsters, which are still pretty rare and usually only available from breeders rather than pet stores. They are the tiniest hamsters kept as pets, so I probably don’t have to tell you why I went through the effort of tracking down a breeder from across state lines willing to give them up for adoption.

  326. Karen says:

    happy new year!!
I prefer lipgloss, just because I haven’t found a liquid lipstick that doesn’t destroy my lips

  327. Kirsten says:

Still or sparkling water? Soarkling. It settles my tummy. But I also drink lots of still.

When was the last time you rocked a scrunchie? Yesterday. It’s my go-to for getting my hair off my neck.

What’s the most unusual pet you’ve ever had? Ring-necked pheasants– 4H girl here.

Lipgloss or liquid lipstick? Liquid lipstck. I hate how sticky gloss is.

How old were you when you got your ears pierced? 13, then my parents let my sister pierce hers at 11 and I was so pissed.

Do you have any birthmarks? Apparently I did when I was born, but then it went away.

  328. Katrina says:

I rock a scrunchie on a daily basis – it’s the only thing I use around the house to put my hair up with.

  329. Anastassia says:

    I like regular water.

  330. Sara says:

Still water – I can’t stand carbonated drinks.

  331. gabi says:

Still water but sparkling wine πŸ˜‰
    Happy new year!! xoxo

  332. Stephanie says:

Right after college, I worked at a school for kids with disabilities and one of my duties was caring for the pets. We had a giant centipede and a baby alligator! I was a little scared at first, but ended up having fun and the kids loved them.

  333. susan says:

I think I was 7 when my ears were pierced. A long time ago!

  334. Jay says:

Sparkling water, lipstick, and ALWAYS mascara, even if it’s just to run errands!

  335. Shelby says:

I’ve had so many pets over the years, but my strange ones were probably crested geckos in college, and more birds than I can count. At one point I had 17 birds. We’re down to 3 now, and it’s a much happier number.

  336. Alona Y says:

I rock a scrunchie just about daily! My hair is really long and thick so they work really well for me.

  337. Nlm8 says:

I had my ears pierced as an infant. Everyone thought I was a boy (no hair) so earrings would prove that I was a girl lol

  338. Elizabeth says:

Have fun in Monterrey! I enjoy sparkling water!

  339. Justine says:

    Sparkling water!

  340. Anne says:

The most unusual pet my family had was a hummingbird! When I was a kid we found it on the street as a baby. It looked weak or hurt so we brought it in the house and nursed it back to health. It was so tame it would sit on our shoulders and let us feed it. It would flap its wings on our shoulders and I remember it would tickle my neck! We had a lot of plants in the house where it liked to hang out. Hands down the coolest pet I’ve ever had!

  355. Aelyn says:

I had babysat an abandoned baby squirrel one night. It was really strange because all she did was sleep in my pocket, and we had cats so I was always afraid she’d get out and be eaten! O.O

I hid her in my jumper pockets and returned her to my friend the next day at school.

  356. Deb says:

Still water and not a huge fan of either lip gloss or liquid lipstick. But the gloss would probably win. Enjoy your trip!

  357. Heather L says:

Liquid lipstick definitely! I love to rock opaque, dramatic colors! Lipgloss is too tame for my taste, However, I actually did like the Urban Decay Revolution High Color Lipgloss (Assassin is my favorite!) My favorite liquid lipsticks are Ofra and Kat Von D. Liquid lipstick bc now gloss just annoys me with its stickyness! But the downside is the liquid lipstick enhances the lines in your lips and dries them out :/

  370. Michelle says:

Always still water, I hatend carbonated water and soda so much, well except for sparkling wine or Champagne. I think it’s because those are much smaller bubbles.
I wear a scrunched all the time at the gym or if I putold my hair up at home, never when I go out. My hair stylist suggested it because my hair is super fine and breaks easy,, seems to be working better!

Most unusual pet…when I was in elementary school, I raised two orphaned whitetail fawns. They were precious! I bottle-f’ed them, and they followed me around like puppies!😍

I just recently started loving sparkling water.

  427. Paol Trenny says:

Still or sparkling water? sparkling water

    Lipgloss or liquid lipstick? Lipgloss

How old were you when you got your ears pierced? 10 years old

Do you have any birthmarks? I have two

  428. Alicee says:

I like both still and sparkling water. I like lipgloss, but it loses against windy days on the other hand liquid lipstick is really wind friendly however I noticed some colors that contain a white base tend to form white lines in my inner lips which looks worse than sticky gloss on its worst day. I got my ears pierced a day before my 13th birthday. I have a birthmark on my leg which is almost unnoticible except in summer because it doesn’t tan.

  429. Tosha H says:

Nah, no birthmarks, and I think I got my ears pierced around 13 or so at a Wal-Mart

  430. Jessica says:

Still water and liquid lipstick for sure! I was a year old when I got my ears pierced and I have a birthmark in the shape of a bean of the back of my leg/inner thigh!

  431. Chelsea says:

    Liquid lipstick for sure! xo

  432. Jamie Martin says:

I spent more time thinking about not thinking about my ex girlfriend than I would thinking of her.
