$50 Sephora e-gift card giveaway

Star Wars.

Just gettin’ that out there. 🙂 I felt like I should start this with those words because — my gosh! — it’s Star Wars erryting right now. El Hub is so excited. The new movie is all he’s been talking about for days. He’s like a little kid. We have tickets to see it this afternoon, and I have to admit…I’m pretty excited about it too! I don’t really follow the whole Star Wars mythos, but I have watched all of the movies. I hope this one’s good.

Other that that, shopping. I still have a few things to get, so I’m heading to the mall in a little while this morning.

Tabs says “meow,” by the way. He just went outside for his morning walk, and it rained here last night, so he got to investigate some very interesting puddles, as well as wet grass, which made his tum damp, and he’s not sure how to feel about that… He’s still on the fence about it, but he’s leaning toward “not good.”

How are you doing, my friend? Good, I hope. Will you be getting any days off for the holiday? I’ve had to work on a few Christmases before. It can be a bummer, but I hope you have some people working with you for the camaraderie.

I hope you have a great weekend, whatever you’re doing. Thank you for stopping by…and may the force be with you (I couldn’t resist). 🙂

I have never been a Star Wars person but my bf is and he is making me watch all the movies before we go to see the new. I just watched Episode 5 last night and it was really good.

I still need to complete my Christmas shopping…My card got compromised and I am waiting for a new one, which makes everything more difficult.

I have Christmas off this year but I do have to work on Christmas Eve.

    Happy Saturday Karen,

Today I finally assemble the Christmas tree. I’ve been so busy and all the hustle and bustle of the holidays running together I just haven’t had time to get my tree in order. Plus the house wont be as festive this year , but that’s definitely not the reason for the season.

How would you like to spend your day today if you had no chores, deadlines or responsibilities?

At a beach house enjoying the smell of the ocean and sipping mimosas.

    Do you snore?

When I’m really sleepy I do.

Is there a bar of soap in your shower, or is everything in a bottle?

Yes I keep some bottled soaps and a bar of soap in my shower.

    What’s your favorite brown eyeshadow?

It’s this brown shadow that comes in an old Wet N’ Wild trio. I loved it so much I had to scale Amazon and Ebay for them because they no longer sell that trio. Now I have like 4 back ups just so I don’t run out.

Which would you rather have: a bathroom remodel or a kitchen remodel?

Kitchen first , but I’d really like them both done.

As usual I’ll try to answer them all!

How would you like to spend your day today if you had no chores, deadlines or responsibilities?

Unfortunately, it’s all about money right now. I’d like to do many things but I don’t have the cash! Poor Erin, the current me, is going to spend some time reading while burning a candle. There might be some tea in there. Already played with my pup and ran errands!

    Do you snore?

Sometimes. I have bad allergies and if I’m on my back I will.

Is there a bar of soap in your shower, or is everything in a bottle?

    Bottle everything!

Shh! You didn’t hear it from me, but __________.

Santa Claus is coming to town!

    What’s your favorite brown eyeshadow?

    NARS Lhasa!

Which would you rather have: a bathroom remodel or a kitchen remodel?

Since I’m in a rental I really can’t have either! The kitchen is not great but it’s serviceable. Not having any counter space in the bathroom or a tub is making me a bit cray. So let’s go with bathroom if we’re dreaming!

I haven’t used bar soap in over 30 years. I love shower gels!! On an interesting note, I ordered a huge bottle of Magno Bath Gel from Amazon. It’s made in Spain and people seem to really love it. Unfortunately, the seller ran out of it, so I won’t be getting it. Maybe I can get a yummy Philosophy body wash if I win a gift card from Sephora. LOL!! Happy Holidays Karen!! Howdy from Oregon! We’re going to see Star Wars tomorrow. My kids are super-excited. Aaric (my oldest) has spent the last few days re-watching the other six movies so he’s got full background. He’s planning on wearing his new Kylo Ren T-shirt. 😀 Heck, I’ll probably wear one of my CoverGirl Star Wars collection lipsticks, or maybe a lipstick from Makeup Revolution’s Far Away Galaxy Collection (Sky-walker is pretty cool).

My house was built in the mid-70s, and the bathrooms are tiny, so I would definitely go for a bathroom remodel. Our kitchen is actually pretty big considering the time period in which it was built. It has a ton of cabinets, which I love. The original owner must have been into cooking.

I’d have a Japanese style bathroom which I had an opportunity to use when visiting a friend in Japan-a padded toilet seat that you can heat up in the winter and with different sprays (ahem for you-know-what) and a deep tub that you can relax in after you rinse in a separate shower area. Very ulitarian but also zen relaxation…ahhh.

We are just home from Star Wars, and of course it was awesome. My husband and I were discussing when to go see it again before we even left the theater.

If I had to pick forever between bar soap and liquid, I would pick bar, but actually I have both. I like the liquid for hand soap, especially.

Also I just got Sephora VIB status for the first time, can you believe that? (It means I spent too much money.)

    Hi Karen,

Hope you and baby girl are all geared up for the holiday! I have to work on Christmas eve for a little while – and it’s going to make everyone have to wait on me to celebrate. On a more sad note, I just lost my Mom a few days ago — so in many ways I’m not really in the mood to do or go anywhere. She was in a nursing home, and had dementia – but we didn’t know that she was near death. So it’s put a sad place in my holidays. The only thing that I feel good about is that she passed peacefully. She is with my Dad now. This is good.
Have a beautiful Christmas Karen, cherish your family — tell them that you love them often. Life is uncertain at best……<3

I really can’t choose between my two favorite brown eyeshadows — ME-554 Gunmetal (metallic) and I-628 Reptile (iridescent), both by Make Up For Ever.

I have a question for you, Karen. Everyone talks about using cream eyeshadow when they want to do an easy eye look, but for me it seems anything but easy, unless I want a sheer one-color wash. When I try to apply it with any opacity and intensity, it creases on my oily, hooded lids. And getting the colors to blend together smoothly despite the wrinkly loose skin up above my eyes is like, forget it. And I’m talking about good quality eye shadow sticks from Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, by Terry, and Kiko (Kiko actually creases the least). Even if I use the NARS eye shadow primer first, I still get creasing unless I set with powder eyeshadow, which kind of defeats my purpose of getting out the door quickly, since I tend to make a mess whenever I use powder shadow. I usually blend cream shadows with dense synthetic brushes from Make Up For Ever, but sometimes with my fingers — makes no difference. Is it my technique, or just something about my eyelids? Do I have to settle for sheer on the days I want to use cream shadows to get out the door more quickly? (When I use powder eyeshadow, I always make a mess, so I always do my eyeshadow first, then clean up and do the rest of my face, but that adds a couple of minutes to my routine.)

I still love cream shadows as a base for powder shadows (except for the ones that are super-creasy on me), but I just can’t seem to get a great look with them used alone.

Right now, I’d rather have a kitchen remodel, but only if it happened in a blink of an eye. I don’t really want to have to live through the dust of the deconstruction and rebuild. And I’d like it not to cost too much either. Both of which are extremely unlikely to happen, especially with the outrageous construction costs in the bay area.

It’s Star Wars week! It’s Star Wars week! I waited in line overnight back in the early 2000’s to see the first one only to be deeply disappointed but as big of a fan as I am, I still haven’t seen it! And it’s been out two and a half days!!! I had tickets in my cart ready to purchase the day you could buy them and I stopped. It’s sad to say how scared I am to go to anything big like that anymore. Afraid that some guy, dressed as Darth Vadar or Kylo Ren, would come in and shoot everyone. It may sound paranoid and it may sound crazy and it may be the pregnancy paranoia but that’s why I didn’t go on opening night. And we had a wedding last night. Going to try to go tonight. I went to school Friday and all of my students (they all thought I saw it because I’m obsessed) and they started blurting out the “can you believe so and so did such and such!” And now I know everything!!! But I still CANNOT WAIT to see it. I told my husband that if we done see it tonight that I’m going by myself while he’s at work this week. I can’t wait! Merry almost Christmas!

How would you like to spend your day today if you had no chores, deadlines or responsibilities? Hmmm…I actually didn’t have much to do today so I read most of the day (a little bit of cleaning doesn’t really count I think).

Do you snore? I don’t think so.

Is there a bar of soap in your shower, or is everything in a bottle? Yes. I did some traveling last year and found liquids and TSA irritating. So I’ve been looking into solids and started with bar soap–which is difficult bc most make my skin itch. I like Cerave’s but am not a fan of the scent (but it doesn’t linger so I might repurchase). Cetaphil’s scent just makes me gag. Going to try Vanicream’s next.

Mele Kalikimaka Karen! It’s a blustery mess outside right now (gonna get up to 60 mph gusts….’scuse me?)downed trees landing on peoples cars and power lines so low you can play jump rope with them, but, when you’re out….you’re OUT! Not recommended in my book. Anywho, ever since your review on the Chanel 88 Noir Intense, I’ve been a BIIG fan! IT’S TRUE! ALL OF IT! Lurve my liner now, getting all in the waterline and lash line…YESSS. So here’s a question for ya…how do you keep your tip sharp? I need a leetle more point for my tippie if ya know what I mean. Stay well and give Tabs a kissy for me. Fuzzbutt my one and only says Ameooooow-ha!

I would rather have a bathroom remodel than a kitchen remodel. And if I were off work today and had no responsibilities, I would spend the day chillin in my pajamas with my twin daughters, playing Neko Atsume (cat collecting game) on my iphone, and eating pizza and breadsticks. Just spending quality relaxing time with my girls.

But hubby says I’m a lot better since I bought one of those wedge pillows. I put my contour pillow on top of it and sleep like a baby, and quietly, too. Meow to Tabs! And sorry about the wet belly. My favorite brown eyeshadow…I think it would have to be Urban Decay’s Smog. It’s so beautiful and has so much depth. You can wear it softly smudged as a liner for an everyday look or smoked out all over the lid for tons of drama, and the shimmer keeps it from looking flat.

Me and my Mr just recently bought a house in London. It was such a struggle as it was difficult enough to even find/ get one. But I absolutely love it and it’s our dream house. There was not a lot of work we had to do to the house at all as the previous owners took very good care of the house. If we have some spare money, I do want the kitchen and bathroom redone though.

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my two-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my cat (Tabs).
