Father’s Day is hours away (it’s this Sunday, ack!), and purr usual, I’m scrambling to find my dad a gift.
Is it just me, or is it surprisingly hard to shop for dudes?
I never know what to get my dad. He has more than enough flashlights, socks, radios and pocket knives, so I think this year I’ll get him something related to men’s grooming.
I guess that I could always fall back on a tech gadget or a case of beer (and there’s always beef jerky). Any of those would make him really happy, too, but he’s always seemed to like getting shave cream or cologne.
I think that most guys — at least the guys in my life — like it when they get grooming gifts because they’re the kinds of things they never buy for themselves.
Honestly, I don’t know… It’s just a theory. 🙂
Anywho! I stopped by Sephora this afternoon to look around. Here are some last-minute Father’s Day beauty-related gift ideas…
Skin care kits and shaving sets
Skin care kits and shaving sets are always a good place to start. I think my dad would love The Perfect Shave Kit by Anthony ($65), which comes with a face cleanser, pre-shave oil, shave cream and an after shave balm, and the Jack Black sets ($24-55) look like something most dads would like, too.
Fragrance
If your dad ever wears cologne like mine does (he’s quite the fragrance junkie), one of Sephora’s many fragrance kits could make a good gift.
I’m thinking about getting my pops The Leading Man cologne sampler, which includes 10 deluxe sample-size spray bottles of popular men’s scents (Burberry Brit Rhythm Men, Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio, Gucci Guilty Pour Homme, Hugo Boss Boss Bottled, John Varvatos Artisan Acqua, Lacoste Eau De Lacoste, Paco Rabanne Invictus, Prada Luna Rossa, Ralph Lauren Polo Red and Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme), a bottle of The Art of Shaving Unscented Shave Cream, and a voucher good for one full-size bottle of any one of the individual scents in the kit (at no extra charge!).
Or get dad a beauty care package…
You could also put together a gift with different things from different brands, and whenever I do this, I try to pick things that I know my dad will actually use, like lotion, sunscreen, aftershave and deodorant.
Don’t forget GLAMGLOW
If your pops is adventurous at all when it comes to skin care, how about a couple things from GLAMGLOW? Their face washes and masks work for guys, too…
One word: feet
And if you just can’t decide at all, I’m telling ya, you can’t go wrong with foot cream.
I’m serious!
I like this one by L’Occitane ($28).
It looks kind of dude-ish, doesn’t it? It’s incredibly moisturizing, and when dad isn’t using it, you’ll be able to use it too, LOL! So it’s one of those gifts that keeps on giving. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

totally agree with you, karen, on the jack black and anthony kits. at christmas, i buy several of their sets and break them down to mix and match with other things to make personalized gifts for our guy friends, and they always like them – to the point that they later buy them for themselves. my hubby and i love the jack black lip balm and have been using it for years. we also like the anthony glycolic face wash, which you have in the first pic. it’s an effective, but not stripping, and pleasantly unisex-scented cleanser. i just wish the bottle were easier to squeeze with wet hands.

Oh Jack black kits and the Sephora Favorites cologne sampler are always a great bet for guy gifts. I ended up switching it up (too much gets repetitive ya know?) and ordered a Fitbit Charge with the heart rate monitor. I kinda want one now too! lol.

I love everything Jack Black except the hand cream. The smell’s really off-putting (tea tree… ick!)

With my dad the only beauty related thing he would like to get it’s perfumes he won’t be using anything else, so even thought ‘d love another excuse to go to Sephora I’ll search for another thing for him.

My dad uses one ‘beauty’ product and one beauty product only and that’s his trusted Nivea cream, the one in the original blue tin. And he’s really fussy with fragrances, so I usually just stick to what I know he likes for Father’s Day: a good bottle of bubbly or some nice Belgian beers.

Beef jerky. Much more to my fathers liking than cologne.
