Kauai, Day 5: Jungle Hikes, Kayaks and Ke’e Beach

Published in: Just For Fun, Kauai, Travel

I’m a little sad about having to leave Kauai this morning, but vacations never last forever…

Who am I kidding? I’m very sad about it. No more falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the beach, no more secret swimming holes and snorkeling spots, no more lush tropical landscapes, jungle hikes, waterfalls or fresh papaya picked from farms down the street!

And what about the kitties!? Poor Tuxie, Tortie Girl and Tabby Mac. Who will feed the kitties!?

Oh…I know someone else will. I hope. It’s time for me to pass the torch/Friskies box to another CCL.

In other news, we kept busy yesterday, trying to squeeze in as much fun as possible on our last day here. We started with a kayak ride up the Wailua River (just one small part of it) and a hike to the Secret Falls, and finished the day at Ke’e Beach, located at the very end of the paved road that runs along the east and north sides of the island. There’s nothing else beyond it except treacherous jungle hikes and steep cliffs along the coast.

It’s going to be tough leaving this beautiful island, but that’s the thing about beauty — it’s everywhere we look. :) This time tomorrow I’ll be back in the Bay, so I’ll see you again soon from California.

But before that, here’s one last look (for now) at lovely Kauai…

This way to adventure!

Are you sure we’re not lost?

The Secret Falls

Looks like the secret’s out! :)

Stop at Red Hot Mamma’s for a burrito before Ke’e Beach. It’s the last stop for food and drinks about one mile before the end of the paved road.

That’s Ke’e Beach down there…

Aloha, from your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. See you again soon from California! :)

My husband proposed on Poipu Beach last year. I love Kauai! Your trip looks fabulous and makes me want to go back so badly. We also took a trip down the river and went into the Fern Grotto. Le sigh. It is gorgeous!

    Three quick things this AM:

#1 – I’m sorry for you that you had to leave. It looks so beautiful in Kauai.
#2 – What’s the bug situation like there? Walks to the secret falls sound awesome. Are you having to fight off mosquitoes or other creepy crawlies, though?
#3 – This is a bit crazy, but the center image in pic of the jungle right after your vid “Still Hiking to Kauai’s Secret Falls” reminds me of a cross between a Schnauzer and a mermaid. Just sayin’. :)

  16. Jane says:

Thanks for sharing your vacation paradise with your readers. I’ve looked forward to looking at your lovely photos every day. I’m sure you’ll find another CCL to feed the stray kitties.

  17. Evani says:

The pictures are incredible Karen! If those colors don’t inspire you, I don’t know what will!

    Love,
    Evani

I did a westcoast trip in May and we were waiting for our flight back to Austria in front of the Hawaiian Airlines check in desk. We were all like “Why not flying to Hawaii instead of home now?” Would have loved to, but we had to get back to work. :-(
But one day I’ll be there, I promise this to myself!
