Hey friends,
Are you (or is someone you know) looking to gain more beauty blogging and writing experience? I’m searching for 4-5 motivated, marvelous interns to write for Makeup and Beauty Blog while I go on maternity leave in late February through March, April and possibly early June. I’ll still be blogging and doing my thing, but I’ll also need some help.
What’s in it for you?
Your work will get published on MBB, so you’ll get online writing experience (if you’re planning to move into a career in beauty writing or online writing, this is a great way to build your resume and provide links to your work to potential employers), and if you currently have a blog, it’s a great opportunity to grow traffic to your site. I’ll also be happy to write you a glowing recommendation letter if you need a reference.
FYI: This is an unpaid internship; however, I will be able to pay you in product. I’ll send you beauty products to review, you’ll review them, and then you’ll get to keep them after you submit your review. You’ll be writing 3-5 reviews (or how-to posts, tutorials, looks or faces of the day) per week.
What I need from you…
If this sounds like something you might want to do, then please send the following to karen@makeupandbeautyblog.com by Friday, January 22:
- A resume highlighting relevant writing/photography/beauty blogging experience and a cover letter
- Writing and photography links or examples (it’s extremely important that you’re able to take good product pics, and, ideally, you’re comfortable showing your face on the blog)
- Any links you may have to previously published work in the beauty niche
I’m looking forward to hearing from you! Please let me know if you have any questions.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m so glad you’re hiring help. I’ve been worrying about how you were going to manage when B.G. arrives 🙂
Alexis says
I’m mildly tempted just because it was force me to write again and also write for my own blog!
Yes, motherhood definitely slowed me down!
Rachel says
Fun! I’m excited to see who the interns will be!
Yelena says
shut the front door! If I had any ability to write well, I would glady sign up, but I could in no way compare to you.
Hope you find some great interns so you can enjoy your time with Baby Girl 😉
Karen says
Yelena! If you’re interested, you should apply. I’m not looking for gals and guys who write and blog just like me, because where’s the fun in that? I’m looking for passionate people who love makeup (and/or hair and skincare and other forms of beauty and creative expression) and are comfortable being themselves.
Kim says
Happy (belated) New Year, my friend! Oh, you had me until the photography/show your face portion. HAHA! My cameras skills do not extend beyond “iPhone”. 🙂 I’m sure you’ll find some fab help, though, and it’ll give you some much needed time with Baby Girl.
PS I’m so proud of you for planning ahead like this. I probably would have been thinking about that as I was going into labor, if I’d have been self-employed! 🙂
Agata says
OMG, this is exciting Karen. I wish I considered myself a better writer. That would be a dream internship!
Lorraine says
oooh and I hope you’ll have some guest bloggers pitching in for you, too. I really enjoyed seeing some of my other favorite beauty bloggers featured on your site for This is My Makeup Life and Unsung Heroes. Great opportunity for interns, too.
Michelle says
I applied. It would be a pleasure to work with you!
Karen says
Thank you, Michelle! I’ll be looking over the submissions and following up with people shortly after Jan. 22nd.
Danielle says
What a wonderful opportunity, Karen! You’re going to make some lucky people very happy! I’ve always loved your style of writing and know that you will pick some fabulous interns!
While I would love to give it a shot, I don’t have much…er…any?…experience with this sort of writing. You will definitely find some talented beauty-lovers who will be perfect for the job!
Karen says
Hi Danielle,
I’ll consider all serious, thoughtful submissions, regardless of the applicant’s experience. Experience doesn’t necessarily matter more than interest and passion. If you feel passionately about makeup, blogging, writing or photography (or cats), you should apply!
Nicole says
Sign me up. Updating my resume as soon as we get back from Hawaii. ?
Karen says
Thank you, Nicole! I’ll be accepting applications through Jan. 22nd and going over them shortly thereafter. I hope you apply!
Annie S. says
How nice of you to offer this opportunity to some lucky interns. I hope that some great bloggers take advantage of your offer.
(Maybe you can tag team with Baby Girl when she is a little older!)
Happy New Year!
Ruchita says
How exciting! It will be fun to see the guest bloggers and I’m glad you have the flexibility to spend time with Baby Girl. 🙂
Georgina says
Is this open internationally Karen?
Karen says
Hi Georgina,
Yes, it is! It’s open to applicants everywhere. 🙂
Olivia says
Hi Karen, I just read a reply in the comments that this offer is open to international candidates. That was my query. Yeah!
Now going to send my info, resume etc asap.
I look forward to hearing from you and as a reader following the blog during your maternity break.
Best regards,
Olivia
Lauren says
I WANT IT!!!! Ohhh my heart went up then down as my resume is Full of nursing work. Do my HS journalism papers from the 90s count?! Pais or , this is a dream. What can I send you without having professional experience?
I’m also so happy that you are taking time off. Of course I’ll miss you! You’ll NEVER GET THOSE First months With BG back ever, so you enjoy every second!
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
YES! Your HS journalism papers from the ’90s count. Photography skills and willingness to take pictures of yourself will be important, but I would also consider, along with a resume and cover letter, a sample beauty product review of 150-300 words.
I’m very excited about BG’s arrival. Nervous…but also very excited.
Lauren says
Thank you, sweet friend! I’ve been having fun gathering photos, and of course playing with new looks! Can’t hurt to try! In college I signed up to magor or in journalism with a counselor saying “you’ll never make money…what’s your second passion?” That’s how I became a nurse, and when I charted, I’d write novels!
Karen, it is SO NORMAL to be nervous about BG. I’ve heard from many mentors in life that if someone is not nervous about a big change, they don’t care. I have yet to meet a soon to be Mom who is NOT nervous, and when their baby comes, it’s the most perfect, beautiful time of their life. My best friend just had triplets at 38. Was scared to death. The triplets are here, and she would not change a thing!! They’ve completed her, brought so much over and joy, and this will be you and BG soon!! <3
Brooke @ Blushing Noir says
It’s so fabulous of you to open this opportunity up! I’ll throw my hat into the ring and cross my fingers 😉
LindaLibraLoca says
I would be tempted if I wouldn’t be going into maternity leave come early March as well.
Rachel R. says
I think it’s great that you’re hiring some post-natal blog help. If this were 20 years ago, and I were still fresh out of journalism school, I’d jump at this.
Good luck. I know there are lots of talented readers who will do a great job for you.
Rachel R. says
*recruiting, rather than hiring
Kwmechelle says
!!!!!!! ☺️
Taylor says
WHOA, this would be so much fun! I was just wondering if you would ever consider recruiting someone who does not have much experience but definitely has an addiction to makeup and wouldn’t mind trying out a little bit of blogging? I know there are probably a lot of other qualified bloggers out there, but perhaps a chance for the novice? You would be a great mentor and it would be a wonderful opportunity!
Karen says
Hi Taylor,
I’ll consider all submissions, regardless of the applicant’s experience. I’m looking for a combination of things — passion, an authentic voice, a point of view, photography skills — so I do hope you apply if you’re interested.
Vanessa says
Mbb will go on :’)
Heather L says
Karen, it’s truly an honor to be offered this potential opportunity. Your blog is outstanding, and filling your shoes while you’re on leave will definitely be a tall order for the lucky recipient(s) of this honor! I applied and my cat and I will be anxiously awaiting your verdict on who the new interns will be! (“Shakespeare” says he wants to be counted as an intern! And his name says it all hint hint!)
Erin says
I will certainly consider this. As a long time reader and admirer of yours, I’d be honored to help.
Cherry says
So great, but I don’t fluent in English. :((
Cel says
Logistics wise, being in the Philippines probably will make my slim chance, slimmer.
I’m sure we’re all going to miss your writing, but it would be interesting to read other styles of writing and perspectives.
Exciting!
Karen says
Hi Cel,
The opportunity is also open to international applicants. I may have to tweak the arrangement, but I have some ideas for that… If you’re interested, I hope you apply.
anusha says
Please recruit me karen.. will u accept indian interns??
Karen says
Hi Anusha,
Yes, it’s open to applicants everywhere.
Kiss & Make-up says
Oooooh I cannot wait to read these new reviews!
Becky says
Karen this is so exciting! I wish I wish I wish I was a beauty blogger! I’m UK based but for the next 6 months I’m back and forth to Madagascar -and travel blogging! I’m not sure if I’d be able to be a candidate due to my location?
sophie says
i was just about to do this until i realised what you wanted us to send you, wish i was as experienced as you needed!
Kellie says
Wow, dream internship!!! I may just apply! 🙂
TravelingBlush says
Such a good idea! I hope you get a fun bunch of people. Good luck selection, Karen!
Jennifae says
Ah, the internship of my dreams! Sounds like a wonderful opportunity!
India says
Ooh this sounds like such a good opportunity and I’m looking forward to reading and discovering more people who love beauty. I was just wondering if you were planning on accepting more than one intern?
Subita says
I’m glad you are doing this so you can enjoy time with your little one! Plus it’s a lovely opportunity – I will definitely be applying.
Amy Hoeh says
Hi Karen,
What an incredible opportunity! Ohmygoodness, I’m sitting here trying to calm my excitement about this. I’m sure that there are plenty of people that have the entire package that you’re looking for. I’m actually a certified MUA with a Masters’ Degree in Business Administration and Finance, however I have no blogging/vlogging experience nor do I have a portfolio to submit.
Makeup is my life, my passion, my obsession. Just thinking about this opportunity is making my heart flutter!
Lily says
Karen is there a certain age that you are looking for? Also, if one has no experience at all in the beauty industry (or any official writing or photography work), what would go on the resume? I know you said in other comments that writing a beauty review and old school papers would work for submission, but what would the credentials be on the actual resume?
Thank you so much for giving everyone this chance! Congrats on your pregnancy!
Karen says
Hi Lily,
I’ll consider anyone of any age, and from the resume, beyond looking for experience, I’m also trying to get a sense for the applicant’s other skills and how they might help them here, like in being organized, or if they’ve ever had to write something for one of their other jobs.
Lily says
Hi Karen,
If you ever decide to have “Guest Posts” I would love to contribute. A lot of us are already avid Beauty Bloggers and do quite a few product reviews ourselves, so if you decide to go in this direction, just let us know through a post. We would love some blog exposure!
Solangel says
Omg I hadn’t seen this, submitting ASAP! Thank you so much for the opportunity, Karen, I hope you get the help you need 🙂
Amoure Jones says
Hello Karen,
Although this would be an amazing opportunity, and a way to get my blog off the ground and back in good standing. However, my pictures aren’t the greatest. I actually take them with my cell phone (for products) and laptop (for face shots). I’ve been thinking about investing in a good camera, but that wont be for a while considering my budget.
I am looking forward to those that are chosen , because I know they will be a great help while you are taking care of the princess.
Blessings.

Wow, Karen!
I was SO excited to see your baby bump! Oh my…I have to admit that I found you on your post when you were contemplating never being a mom (I think) and it really struck a chord with me, so I signed up here. I’m a mom of 7 (3 disabled) and retired Make up Pro and Hairdresser, now a published author. I’ve been blogging for 4 years lately a bit of beauty for a Christian audience and seen your need. I’d LOVE to review products (reviews are my speciality) and I do pictures pretty well (with my iPhone -could always improve). I’m not sure what’s involved but I’d take a stab at it if it would help? Bless you and that baby bump! 🙂

Hi Karen! Just double checking… by Friday the 22nd do you mean Friday AM or PM? I have a nutty schedule this week so I’m hoping to get the application to you by Friday evening (PST). Thanks so much!
