Barely 9 a.m. here on the West Coast, and already I’m thinking about the weekend! 😀
In a parallel universe, I would apply false lashes first thing every Saturday morning before I did anything else. And cat liner. And glitter. And a robotic hovering wind machine would follow me around everywhere, blowing my hair back so that I looked like this all day long…
There may even be a feather boa and/or tiara in the mix.
It all depends on my schedule for the day… One thing’s for sure — I’d be all glam, all weekend, every weekend. For reals.
But in this universe, because I like to take it easy on the weekends, my weekend makeup’s super chill, or at least it has been lately.
My usual weekend wear (not necessarily all at the same time)
- Foundation: MAC Face & Body, which I’m obsessed with, again. Let me know if you need me to talk you into it, holla!
- Concealer: Bobbi Brown Peach Color Corrector
- Mascara: Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Mascara Waterproof, a CHAMPION OF pools and beaches
- Brow Pencil: MAC Veluxe Brow Liner
- Waterproof eye liner: (Chanel Santal and Beryl
- Blush: Lately, Dolce & Gabbana Peach or Too Faced Who’s Your Poppy
- Bronzer: (Guerlain Terra Nerolia
- Powder: MAC Blot or Careblends Pressed
- Nude lip liner: MAC Subculture
- Nude gloss: Clarins Instant Light, MAC Big Baby, Chanel Candy Glow
And when I have plans to go out to a special dinner or do something with El Hub, then I might do more with my eye makeup, or apply a bright lip like MAC Impassioned or NARS Yu.
So, babe, tell me about your weekend makeup. What do you usually wear? Do you try to keep it minimalist and mellow? Or do you like to break free from your oppressive weekday routine by going all-out glam? Spill the legumes! Let me know how you usually wear your makeup on the weekends. If you feel like it, list the items you use. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hi Karen! What I wear on the weekend usually depends on my plans. Sometimes I wear little to no makeup just because I’m feeling lazy, and other times I bust out all my favorites and do a bold look. ‘Wear a subtle lip if wearing a bold eye’ say whaaat? Haha 🙂 I think makeup ‘rules’ are made to be broken
Also, I have a beauty blog I’m starting up again and I was wondering if you still allow people to write guest posts. If so, I’d love to write one on a nail polish and send it to ya! Let me know 🙂
Danielle says
It depends on my plans. Usually I go shopping on the weekend, so I try to wear something that looks pretty polished. But lately I haven’t been big on much eye shadow.. I’m perfectly happy with just a neutral shade on my lid.
Melissa says
Some of my favorites in that list of yours! I just recently tried Mac F&B. With my super dry skin, I was skeptical. It’s the only foundation I’ve truly loved(topped over Golden Elixir Strobe Liquid for summer)! Do you have any tips on building coverage in certain areas yet? I use a Real Techniques buffing brush and can’t seem to build it any. I also LOVE full & soft! It’s the only mascara I’ve found that doesn’t irritate my eyes!
Kiss & Make-up says
Yeeowza, that shot of you with the fan, damn! 🙂 You diva! 🙂
I personally don’t do anything different on the weekends. I do whatever I feel like, whether it’s a work day or weekend 🙂 And it can be anything, from neutral to bold.
Natasha says
By week-ends, I assume you mean days off…since I work most week-ends. On my days off, I’ll just wear a bb cream, black eyeliner or mascara on my upper lashes and lip gloss in something peachy.
Minsooky says
I usually wear a nude lip (well, I always do) and heavy eye makeup. I like to glam it up a bit 😀
Tigerlily says
You look sooo cute in the pic with the dark blue background… You achieved the perfect nude lip right there!!
Makeup on the week-ends varies mostly on what’s planned: quite minimal for a very relaxed w-e, and a bit more daring if we’re going out.
Nessa says
It really deends on my plans. If I don’t have any and decide to stay in, I usually end up in my pjs for the entire weekend (Love it and does wonders to my stress – Im always super lazy and relaxed afterwards), so it’s silly to wear make up. But I never leave the house without make up, so I try something light and neutral.

I usually spend my weekends at horse shows, which means lots of time in the heat and humidity. So I try to go simple and use products that are water resistant. I start with MAC face and body mixed with a drop of golden elixir strobe cream or use Stila’s bronzing tinted moisturizer. Then I contour with nyx matte bronzer and add Benefit Coralista to my cheeks. For eyes I usually just swipe on a Maybelline color tatoo (used precious pearl last week it looked really cute) and have currently benn using Covergirl Clump Crusher waterproof mascara. Do you find full and soft ultra waterproof? I’ve been having issues with my waterproof mascara not being waterproof! I probably also need to invest in a setting spray.
LaurenG says
On the weekends I usually use SkinFood Peach Sake BB Cream, either Dr. Perricone No Concealer Concealer or Benefit Fake Up Concealer, for eyes it depends because I have a LOT of eyeshadow but on weekends usually neutrals and some eyeliner, fresh Supernova mascara, and whatever lip product I grab.
Now here’s my problem lately- I too am Bay Area local, having moved out here from New England two years ago, and my skin has gone from combo/oily to combo/dry most of the time and sensitive so I’m trying to find a good BB Cream or foundation for my skin change. Maybe I’ll look into this mythical Face & Body!
Laneski says
My weekend routine is the same as my weekday routine. I like make-up, but this is the basic weekend wear.
Moisturizer: Hempz anti-aging
Foundation: Make Up For Ever face & body (is MAC face & body better)
Eyeshadow: Bobbi Brown longwear eye cream in Stone & Bareminerals peach surprise as a highlighter
Eyeliner: Bobbi Brown longwear gel eyeliner in graphite or forest
Blush: MAC in blushbaby or Sonia Kashuk in flamingo
Mascara: BareMinerals Flawless Definition
Lips: MAC I have no problems with peeling lips with MAC
Megan says
If my plans are a decided “staying in sweatpants all day cause I feel like it,” then it’s nothing, I like to let my skin have a day or two to breathe!
But if I’m going out to dinner or something, it’s usually a dark brown/plum smokey eye and a peachy lip!
Megan says
Oops, didn’t include what the actual products are.
My favorite brown eyeshadows usually come from the Naked 1 palette, in particular Smog,Toasted,Hustle, and Darkhorse. Lately I’ve been reaching for Naked Basics, I’m liking the matte look at the moment!
As far as lip products go, I always forget to reapply them, so I usually just go with a peachy lip gloss such as Revlon Pango Peach. :]

you are so beautiful? which colour of face and body do you use? I wear prolongwear NW25 but I’m going on Holiday soon an I’d like to like to find something lighter on my skin. Here in France the weather is awfull, fortunately I’m going to the South, on the beach, I can’t wait…
Lisa says
Wow you look amazing in those pics! Your skin looks flawless! I haven’t tried the MAC face and body, I may have to pick some up. But for days off I usually do everything like foundation, blush, mascara but light eyeshadow, if any and skip liner

Happy Friday, Karen & Tabs! Well, Fridays are usually part of my weekend, depending on what I’m doing for the day. If we’re doing errands, I start with my usual face:
* moisturizer with SPF! gotta protect this moneymaker. LoL.
* Stila eyebrow marker. I gave it another shot, today. Not bad, but it took some time to apply. (I’m such a simpleton with make up)
* Bare Minerals base
* Revlon naked foundation (Sequestration! For special events, I use my Bobbi Brown skin foundation)
* Bobbi Brown concealer in natural tan (I’ve put my corrector on the back burner. I save that for special/important days, now.)
* Revlon age-defying powder, to set
* Coralista blush
If we’re going to a get together, or a date, I’ll finish off my face with:
* Hourglass ambient lighting powder in Dim
* curl my eyelashes…and maybe some mascara.
I didn’t get to MAC today. It was WAY too hot, and walking through an outdoor mall made me so grumpy. Plus, I did some damage at H&M’s sale. 🙂 I guess I’ll save my MAC browsing for the girls at the Macy*s MAC section. They’re super nice, so I might as well go to that one. I’m loyal to places that have lovely customer service. 🙂
Thanks for listing your make-up. I have added the eyebrow pencil to my growing MAC list. 🙂 Have a lovely weekend!

You look great in all of these pics! I have been super lazy as log late, and have not been wearing a lot of makeup in general. (It has also been hot and humid in DC…) just tinted moisturizer, lancome powder foundation, l’oreal telescopic mascara (LOVE), MAC groundwork as a primer, smoke random brown shadow, bronzer and blush. I SHOULD do more….sigh,l.:) give Tabs a kiss!

I must say…you look amazing both on the weekdays and weekends!!!! ^_^

Your weekend face is stunning!!! This is my first comment here but I read your blog daily & love it! Tabs is the best (I had a gray tabby named Ruby) & I just love all of your cute photos of him. I’m in the market for some new glasses & I’m wondering if you’d share what style/brand yours are? Thanks 😊
Karen says
Hi S,
Aw, thank you! 🙂 I believe this pair is by Paul Frank. I’m pretty sure. Or Paul Smith? They’re so old.

I wear more conservative makeup to my day job M-F, so I usually try to use the weekend as an opportunity to dip into my more colorful makeup. I will admit that the past few weeks I’ve gone to Saturday lunch with very minimal makeup, though, because I like to sleep in.

I tried the Full ‘n’ Soft Waterproof, but it made my eyes itch like crazy, unfortunately. My eyes are really picky about contacts and mascara.
My weekend makeup isn’t much different from my everyday makeup, to be honest!
Face: Missha Signature BB Cream in 13 (I just ordered a new foundation from them, can’t wait!)
Concealer: Maybelline Dream Lumi Concealer in Radiant (I just splurged on the Nars Radiant Concealer, I can’t wait to get it via UPS!)
Brows: I’d been using Maybelline Define-a-Brow in Light Blonde, but I can’t find it ANYWHERE!
Blush: LORAC in Rose
Powder: Missha Shimmering Ball Blusher in Pastel Glow (Meteorites knockoff!)
Eyeliner: L’Oreal Infallible in Bronze or Milani Liquif’eye in Brown
Mascara: Chanel Inimitable (one of the only mascaras that doesn’t irritate my eyes)
Lips: Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balms, or nothing.
Isabelle says
I go pretty casual on the weekends too;
Face: Garnier BB cream (sensitive) and/or Maybelline’s dream matte powder
Concealer: Mac select moisturecover
Eyes: Maybelline great lash lol, and if I’m going out for dinner I’ll tightline my eyes with essence’s long lasting eyeliner in hot chocolate
Cheeks: Mac’s Stunner blush (limited edition – Mac Me Over I think) or Bourjois blush in 34 Rose D’or
Lips: Nivea fruity shine lip balm in Guava/Strawberry or Covergirl wetslicks fruit spritzers in raspberry splash.
You look gorgeous in all of the above pics Karen, now I have some inspiration for my weekend looks!
Alice Ann says
I have a very casual work environment, so the only thing that’s diffrent on weekends is the amount of time I have to put on makeup. I’ll usually play around with eye makeup, maybe a bright or colorful cateye or something. Definitely do my nails. If I’m going out, I’ll often do a bold lip. Lately I’ve been wearing Bite Beauty Rose or Palomino, they’re both beautiful. I,too, love Nars Yu.
Jennifer says
Sigh… your lips in that bottom pic are stunning! WANT!
Alison says
Hi Karen!
Is there any eye makeup that you find lasts through a day swimming at the beach or the pool?
kristen @ glambunctious says
Ha! Yes, for me weekends are all about sequins and personal fans! LOL, that couldn’t be farther from the truth! I wear my usual amount (the full monty of foundation, concealer if sleep’s been elusive, bronzer, blush, eyeshadow, mascara, and a lippie) since I typically go out that day. Sundays are all about giving my skin a day of rest from makeup and doing a mask if I have time. I spend it getting prepped for the week ahead, writing blog posts, cleaning, reading, watching TV, and cooking. Yay for Sundays! 😀

Weekends I tend to do a natural casual face and amp it up if I’m going out at night. I like:
foundation: MAC face and body–my new favorite! or MUFE HD if I have big plans
concealer: tarte smooth operator waterproof concealer
blush: MAC royal sunset (AWESOME!), legendary or Sonia Kaschuk in pink
mascara: Revlon Lash potion waterproof is truly waterproof for summer!
lips: MAC flamingo (NEW HG!) and I love the Almay color+care liquid lip balms, perfect for an easy breezy lip, I have 5 colors!
eyes: I like Clinique daybreak in the corners and under the brow
If I go out at night I throw on a bold red, fuschia, berry or hot pink lip for a date night. If I go out with the girls I throw on a smoky eye!

Wow, i love the 3. Photo, this ist the perfect Lipcolour 🙂 lovely!

You’ll be stunned to know that my weekend makeup is exactly like my weekday makeup. 🙂 Though, I do use Bourbon more on the weekends – I’m loving it for summer, with its lovely shimmer.
And I laughed out loud about your wind machine. That’s a fantastic idea!

Hi Karen, I’m 13 years old and going into grade nine in the fall! On the weekends I usually just use the Maybelline dream fresh BB cream, and the Maybelline the rocket mascara! I know it’s not much, but it’s just enough for me! Unless I’m going out somewhere special then I will go all out. Usually I’ll just put the MAC Grand Entrance eye shadow all over my lid, the MAC Bronze eye shadow in the outer corner and the crease, and the MAC Brulé eye shadow as a highlight!
Kris says
Hi Karen,
I love that look, you look amazing. On the weekend I wear a tinted moisturizer and take it all down a nothch. It seem that when I try to wear less it sometimes looks like I’m tired :). Maybe everyone is used to my usual deal. Could you show us how you get the look. Some of us chicklets need a lesson or too.
Iris says
I wear the same types of makeup on the weekend but I’m more likely to experiment with bolder colour to see if I could pull it off on the weekdays. 🙂
I like both your makeup looks.
