I’m talking foundation, brows, eyeliner, shadow, blush, bronzer — THE WORKS — and with 1 being “ruh-roh!” and 10 being full-on runway ready realness.
And no brushes or beautyblenders or Q-tips or brow or lash combs or mascara wands. Absolutely no accoutrements whatsoever. Just your digits!
Like, you can’t even use a pencil either. You’d have to touch the tip of the pencil with your finger and then use that on your face.
Yeah, let the difficulty of that task marinate for a second…
Overall, I think I could do OK-ish if I were to just use my paws, but I mean, would I be able to pull off graphic cat eyeliner and six shadows intricately blended on my lids?
Um…no.
But I think if I were to just stick to cream products, like a couple of cream shadows, a cream blush and a bronzer, I could probably hit a 6 on a scale of 1-10. The brows would probably definitely be a hot mess, obviously.
How do you think you’d do?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Happy Caturdaaaaay!
Good morning, fellow feline enthusiast. I’ve got cats on the brain even more than usual today…
One reason is this video my friend Jane over at Daly Beauty shared with me of comedian Kate McKinnon talking about her cat Nino.
All I have to say is Kate totally gets me. 🙂
What are you up to this weekend? I’m just about on my way to the East Bay to visit my folks for the afternoon. Connor Claire will be meeting her great-grandmother for the first time. We’re all very excited about it.
kwmechelle says
Brows & eyeliner would be a hot mess so that’s a definite zero. I would be a 6-7 with cream shadow, blush, bronzer, lips, highlight. And concealer, of course. I’m on a mini vacay. Just a weekend getaway with my bro & the kids. It’s amazing how a small getaway for a weekend can have a big impact on how I feel. We head out tomorrow but I’m lurvin’ it. Enjoy your day, dude! 🙂

I couldn’t imagine trying to do mascara without a really good mascara brush or comb. I could skip brow product with my brows they’re so shaggy, so I guess I could apply clear gel with my fingers. The rest would be about a 6 or 7. I have to admit I sometimes apply everything with my fingers because I’m too lazy to hunt for the right brush or they’re all damp and still drying.
Was going to visit my horse but the weather forecast is for 102 degrees and I decided I just don’t want to deal with the stress of NorCal traffic. So I think I’ll just do laundry instead. Might go car shopping, as I really, really, really need a new car, but just haven’t found one in my price range that thrills me. That’s the result of growing up in Detroit with a family where everyone works in the car industry.

Oh my. It would be horrible! I could possibly do a passable 1 color eye look, and probably some foundation? But I can assure it wouldn’t be pretty!
And what is that makeup bag/roll thing? I neeeeds it.
Rachel says
I could do most of my face except mascara and eyebrows. That video gave me a good laugh! Have fun meeting Great Grandma, Connor Claire!
Chelsea says
Hope Connor Claire is good for her great grandma!
I could do most of my face I think, except for brows and mascara! I can’t imagine trying to do those!
Chris25 says
I think I would be an 8.
Jane says
I don’t use any brushes for my tinted moisturizer, concealer or cream eyeshadow, so I’d be ok there. I would have a problem with bronzer and pwder blush. I haven’t been using eyeliner lately, but that would be a problem if I did. I would say,I’d be a 6. BTW, my local Walgreens has the Essie Gel polish kits. I need to pick one up.

Hi Karen
Between 8 and 9 I mostly use my finger, just not for lipstick.
Kate & Zena says
I think it’s interesting that you ask that. I have lupus, and brushes now can be hard to manipulate, so I either use my fingers or the holy grail of products…chubby sticks. (Thank you Clinique for inventing those products. I love you.) I only ever use a wand for mascara and that can be challenging on my worst of days so sometimes I just say, “Eff it” and go without (those bad days you often don’t even see me wearing makeup, come to think of it.)
I have really good skin, so I don’t think you’d notice if I didn’t wear foundation. I wear lots of cream products. Obviously, professionals are just better, but I think I’d be halfway decent? A 6 or a 7 at least?
Connor Claire, be good for great-grandma! I wish my grams could have met my nephew. *sniffles* My gramps has met him though!

With fingers only it would obviously be a much simpler look. Mostly cream products. No brows and no liner obviously.
For foundation and concealer I would honestly score a 9. For cream blush a 10. But I would suck at cream bronzer.
Cream eyeshadows a good 7 or 8. The blending would be quite ok. I am picturing mac painpot in indianwood for this. Mascara is just not happening.
And for lips I think dabbing a red color with the fingertip would give the lips a more natural look, like snow white just waking up. I would score a 7 because it would just lack precision.
So overall, it would be a fresh casual look but it could score a 9.
Karen says
Hi Laura,
I love MAC Indianwood. What do you usually wear it with? I use it as a base with Woodwinked on the lids and Soft Brown and Saddle in the crease.
laura says
Hi Karen!
Honestly I love to wear it on its own in the summer. When I have a tan, the color actually blends with my skin color perfectly so I don’t need to add anything. If I want to make it a bit smokier, I would apply it on top of constructivist and in the center of the lid only. Of course I would have to blend the crease a lot more in this case, using mac soft brown and makeup geek peach smoothie for example.
Katie says
I could definitely do it, but I hate applying foundation with my fingers. And powder! I absolutely must set my eyes with powder! I have no idea how I’d do that with fingers. Maybe just gently tap some on with the pad of your finger as if it was a sponge. I’d do very well with eyeshadow, especially since I’ve been into “washes of color” and smudgy looks lately, and I’d be fine with cheeks because I’ve actually been liking a subtle cream blush and highlight instead of the whole shebang. But what about like mascara or brow gel??? I couldn’t ever do those with my fingers!
Karen says
Hi Katie,
Maybe put a little bit of gel on a finger then tap that on the brows? That’s what I’d do. Maybe afterwards I’d use a nail to scrape it through for some brow definition. Who am I kidding… My brows would be a mess, LOL!

I actually forgot my makeup bag at home one day and had to run to CVS to buy some makeup, so I wouldn’t look like death. I used my fingers to do my brows, foundation, and blush that day. I still managed to look like death, so I’d give myself a 5. That video was hilarious! I want a 17 lb cat.
Karen says
Hi Lupe,
Wow, that’s still pretty good. Something similar happened to me; I ended up keeping that bag of an emergency makeup at work just in case I ever forgot to bring my makeup bag again.
My cat, Tabs, is 18 pounds of pure love! Big cats are the best.

I don’t think I could do setting powder or mascara with my fingers. My brows are really full, so I think if I used brow powder and my pinky finger, I could do a decent job with them. Not “instagram brows,” but do a decent job of filling them in. Everything else I think I could do a good job with. So…I’ll say around a 7 if I average everything.
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh boy… I don’t think I’d score very high, hah 😀 Especially for eye make-up my brushes are everything!
Jax says
Oddly I think I’d do pretty good on most things, when I was learning make up as a teenager I didn’t really use brushes.
It would be a more natural look, I don’t think I could do a full on glamour look.
Foundation – liquid or cream is ok, I’d mix it with serum or moisturizer to thin it out.
Blusher – liquid or cream, again would be fine.
Lipstick – No worries, especially if I’m going for a smudgy bitten lip
Eye shadow – I’d go for a three colour natural eye, mid toned over the whole lid, smudged out over the crease, pale on the brow bone and a smudged dot in the middle of the lid to add depth, then dark on the outer corner and along the lash line.
Brows – I’m lucky in that I have pretty good Brows, there are the only bit I’d be really unsure of because I’ve only ever done them with brushes. But a gentle finger, a mid brown eyeshadow and finger nail to tame.
Mascara – can I cheat and use falsies? If not I’d just dust them with very dark grey/black eyeshadow by running my finger tips over them, especially the tips where they bleach.
I do have a great set of travel brushes that are in my handbag so generally I’m ok and don’t have to panic. 😀
hanna says
I’d be a solid five. I love brushes.
Kim says
Like you, if I stuck with liquid/cream products, I think I’d do pretty well. I definitely prefer using my fingers for that type of product. And the pencil to finger for lip products would be fine, too. I’d say like an 8 on those items. As for liner, mascara and brow products, probably more in the 2ish range. HAHA!
That’s so exciting about Connor meeting her Great-Grandmother. I hope everything went well!
kellly says
Mascara would be the killer for me!!!
