No (knock on wood!), I haven’t, but I’ve come dangerously close a few times…
The worst time by far was a couple years ago. I was applying false lashes using a pair of very sharp, pointy tweezers to place them on top of my natural lashes.
I don’t know what happened, but I misjudged the distance between the tweezers and my eyeball, and it was like one of those scary scenes from a movie where you see the shiny drill or the alien probe coming at the person’s eye in slow motion, gah!
I blinked my eye shut right in the nick of time.
Needless to say, I never did that again. Now I just use my fingers or this really handy tool I found at Sephora called the Bulls Eye Lash Applicator. It’s plastic and slightly rounded, so I can place my false lashes without the whole poking-my-eye-out thing. It’s also only $12. I use it all the time. If you wear false lashes often, I highly recommend it!
Which leads me to ask, have you ever poked your eye with a makeup brush or liner (or with any makeup accoutrement)?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Once I did with a mascara wand. It was a big brush and I wasn’t used to it, and it made me so mad I threw it away!
Tatiana says
Yeah, I’ve poked my eye. Mostly with mascara wands. Once with my eyelash comb when attempting to get rid of the mascara clumps. Now I half close my eye before moving in with that thing. I also pray there are no earthquakes as I’m doing my lashes.
Karen says
That’s my big fear too, Tatiana! I’m also afraid of someone coming around the corner and scaring me when I curl my lashes with a lash curler.
Virginia says
Yes! Once with this monster mascara wand from Maybelline. I don’t know why or how, but for some reason I poked both eyes like 3x and it was horrible. I needed up tossing the mascara because it wasn’t worth making myself blind.
Agata says
I have not but last year when I was in Poland I poked my eyeball with my nail when applying an eyeshadow primer and my blood vessels broke and for the whole time of being there (my niece’s baptism and professional pictures) I had a red shot bloody eye :-/
Sissi says
Lol! I’m sure this has happened to me too- at least almost. 😉

Occasionally I’ll lightly poke my eye with the mascara comb. Or a Q-tip when I’m trying to clean up my eye makeup. I have that Sephora lash applicator and I love it!
Emmy says
Mascara most of the times as I hardly have any lashes and it is BAAADDD!
Tulipthecat says
I have poked my eye many times with mascara wands and eye liners. I’m such a klutz!
MonicaP says
Only with the mascara wand. You know .. right after you’ve coated your lashes and you want to do a little more and “poke”! Then you blink and – mascara everywhere! Ugh!
Monica.

I’ve definitely poked my eye with a mascara wand! I got mascara all over my contact lens and decided to take the lenses out, forgo the mascara, and wear glasses after that.
Kalli says
Definitely the mascara wand! And that leaves such a big mess too and then my eye gets all watery. It always seems to happen when I don’t have much time!
Emme says
Gah!…I am terrible, horrible at tightlining. I do it…but it feels like I’m put my eye out almost every time. Even when I just close my eyes around the pencil and run it along…still feels gah!
Pamela Haddad says
Only once with the mascara wand and it hurt like a son-of-a-gun!
Lisa says
I am always poking myself in the eye. Maybe I should put my contacts in first?? The worst is breaking off the tip of an eyeliner in it
Andrew says
I wouldn’t say I’ve poked one, but I’ve definitely brushed against them. When I use a brightening liner on my waterline, I always like to use a flat concealer brush to blend it a little to make it look more natural.
I’m a male in Tennessee; the more natural the better.
Chelsea says
So many times! I’ve had to try to remove mascara from contact lenses.
Rachel R. says
I have a few times with a mascara wand. Ouchies!
Lulle says
Oh yes, it happens to me quite often! With mascara wands (one reason why I hate super large wands like Diorshow’s), and with anything I use to thightline or line my upper waterline (pencil liner, brush). What can I say, I’m clumsy! I’ve never really hurt myself though, but it makes the poked eye cry like crazy and destroys all the makeup I’ve already done.
Kelly says
This happened to me just a few days ago; I was putting on a second coat of mascara and got a little too close with the wand. Next thing you know, I had wet mascara all over my face and one eye that wouldn’t stop crying for about an hour.
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh yeah, I poke my eye all the time when applying eyeliner on my waterline. It’s a miracle I’ve never had an eye infection *knocks on wood*
Kim says
Oh, definitely. Several times with the mascara wand. I was surprised my whole eyeball wasn’t covered. I like to really coat the lash line and have misjudged more times than I want to admit. 🙁
Erin says
Yes, I do it all the time. Mascara, eyeliner, lash curlers or my finger. Never an eyeshadow brush, though. I have to stand pretty far away from my current mirror and the counter is hella low. I hate it. My makeup routine is an ab workout and sometimes my feet cramp from trying to see myself because it’s also high on the wall!
If I had space for a make-up table with a mirror, I’d probably even wear makeup just around the house!

Remember those metal round bristle hairbrushes? Trying to dry my hair (which hates hairdryers anyways) and PUNCTURED my cornea. Ow ow friggen ow.
LindaLibraLoca says
I actually have, and it happens a lot more often these days, because most of the time I do my makeup balancing my daughter on my hip while she tries reaching for my stuff…
Diana says
So…way back in the day, I used a safety pin in lieu of a metal lash comb, very precise separation BTW…but I regress. I was trying to separate each lash and accidentally poked myself in the cornea. I don’t think I could open my eye for a few hours and I was deathly sure I had caused permanent damage, but after lots of tearing up and a closed eye for hours, I was fine. I never used a safety pin to separate again.
