Happy Thanksgiving, my friend! 🙂 I just wanted to say a quick hello and wish you a wonderful day. I hope it’s filled with food and love, and of course, eyebrows so fierce that others temporarily forget that there’s pie and ice cream to be eaten (mmm… pecan).
Truth be told, today totally snuck up on me this year (whoops!), so we’re keeping it low key. Just gonna chill at home, hang out (Walking Dead marathon, anyone?!), and enjoy some Thanksgiving noms courtesy of Whole Foods (yes, the lazy last-minute reveler’s approach).
Of the many things I’m thankful for, the deli counter at Whole Foods is definitely one of ’em…
I don’t say this nearly enough, but thank you for your friendship. Sometimes it’s downright impossible to make a connection with people these days, but I feel like I have one with you, and even across a keyboard like this, that’s important to honor.
Thank you also for your kindness, which you’ve always given so freely and without any strings attached. I’ve had some ups and downs over the years (who hasn’t?), and you’ve always been there with something nice to say in a supportive comment or tweet. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to completely turn around someone’s day, week or year — a little reminder that we’re not alone, even when our only company is a cat. We’re all in this crazy adventure together.
Thank you for also teaching me that I have room to grow — always — both in makeup and in life.
Thank you for sharing another year with me. This is our seventh (!) Thanksgiving together — can you believe it?! Some of us graduating from college now were freshmen in high school back then, and Tabs was just a kitten, instead of the 20-pound terror/kitty modeling superstar he is now.
WOW! That’s pretty amazing…
Thank you again. Have a wonderful rest of your day and a happy, happy Thanksgiving.
With lots of love, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Gobble, gobble!
jacque says
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Thanks for all the hard work you do and I’m thankful that I’ve found your blog 🙂
Karen says
Hi Jacque,
Happy Thanksgiving! This was a very sweet comment, thank you! How has your day been? What are you doing today? Right now I’m just chillin’ on the couch in my PJs and I’m watching Gone With the Wind. El Hub and I are going for a walk soon.
jacque says
Hi Karen,
Having a great day so far. I’ve talked with family on the phone, started the turkey, and now I’m watching beauty videos on Youtube (while drinking some chai latte, yum!). Basically just a chill day. Good to hear you and El Hub are enjoying a nice relaxing day as well!
Karen says
That sounds like the perfect day. Are you making any yummy sides? I’m all about the sides, OM NOM NOM. Oh, and the pie of course. I LIVE FOR THE PIE. We have an entire pecan pie in the fridge right now and I’m seriously thinking about eating it for my post-working snack.
Agata says
Happy Thanksgiving, Karen! And thank you for being you and for your amazing blog, full of personal stories, creativity and make up tips. I always feel like I have a friend in you too, even though we have never met!
I am currently working (what a huge surprise, right?) but later in the evening we are going over my sister’s in law’s house for a family dinner. She can’t really cook so I am a bit worried if we will actually have anything to eat, lol. I made a double layer pumpkin cheesecake though 🙂
Have a great day!
Karen says
Hi Agata,
Happy Thanksgiving to you! Even though you’re working right now I hope that you’re having a good day. 🙂
Please know that when you come to SF that we have a coffee/lunch/shopping date!
So, I feel your sis-in-law’s pain, LOL! I’m not exactly a great cook — I mean, I do okay if I have a lot of time to practice. But I’m not naturally gifted in the kitchen. Anyway, your cheesecake sounds delicious. Where did you get the recipe?
Agata says
I think she is worse than you are, Karen! trust me. My hubby found the recipes on allrecipes.com and he was actually going to bake it but somehow I was the one doing all the work…
My shift will be done in 30 minutes and then I can get ready and get my hair curled up and put on some pretty make up 🙂 A good thing is that I took tomorrow off!
Karen says
LOL, I don’t know if that’s possible. At least she’s trying. And who knows? Maybe the meal will surprise you. (If it doesn’t you could always get fast food afterwards!). So, that’s kind of a funny story about the cheesecake. The same thing happens with me and El Hub. He’ll get an idea to do a spaghetti night, and next thing you know, I’m making the spaghetti, hmm…
What makeup are you going to do today? I’m still chillin’ on my couch and allegedly going to work out today (we’ll see) so I’m still bare faced. I may wear the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette later on today, just so I can play. I think I’ll end up doing a mani/pedi too. Kinda nice to have a chill T-day at home.
Yay that you get tomorrow off. 🙂 If you do any black Friday shopping, good luck!
Denise S. says
Happy Thanksgiving Karen! I’m thankful for your blog and bubbly personality.Love how down to earth and real you are, plus you are so funny. Reading your beauty tips and funny stories about Tabs cheer me up everyday!! Hope you and your family have a great holiday!
Karen says
Hi Denise,
Happy thanksgiving to you! Are you hosting this year? I hope you, your fam (are your kids home for the holiday?) and Blaow are having a wonderful day.
Denise S. says
My son came home from FSU but my daughter stayed at UC Davis she’ll come home for Christmas. I’m cooking for my small crew. Blaow loves turkey it’s his favorite!
Karen says
I remember you mentioning that she went to UC Davis…that’s where I went to school too (Go Ags!).
Tabs LOVES turkey too. Especially sliced turkey! He will literally go crazy for it and will not leave you alone until you give him some. I’ll give him a slice along with some turkey Temptations. It’s the holidays, after all.
What are your kids studying?
Chelsea says
Happy Thanksgiving to you, El Hub, and Tabs from us!
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Congrats on your new job, I’m so excited for you! 😀
Did you guys have your thanksgiving meal yet?
Chelsea says
Not for a couple hours! It’s a three hour drive for my parents, so we’re eating later than a lot of people do. Thanks so much for the congrats, I’m really excited!
It’s also my parents’ 32nd wedding anniversary today, so that’s always fun!
Karen says
I’m so happy for you. I bet it felt like a huge weight lifted off of you when you found out that you got it! That’s great too that your commute isn’t going to be too bad, either. To me that’s one of the most important factors since it can carve a huge chunk out of your day.
How’s the cooking going? Are you all prepped and ready? All I have to do is heat stuff up in the microwave and let me tell ya…I’M STOKED!
Chelsea says
Cooking went fine! Everything turned out amazing! Delicious, and it was great to spend time with my parents and the friends that came over.
I’m SO happy about the commute – I don’t want to spend 2-3 hours driving to and from work everyday! Definitely a weight lifted off my chest, especially since my current insurance is really awful, and it’s being cancelled at the end of the year, so I’ll have new insurance from the company that looks really good!
Karen says
Yay! Did you cook turkey and all the sides?
Our Whole Foods deli meal was really good. I filled up on my faves: corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and pecan pie. Tabs even got gravy and turkey too. Well, he licked off the gravy off the turkey, LOL.
How long will your commute to your new job be?
Chelsea says
Yes! Homemade stuffing, homemade rolls, green beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, pies, brined the turkey ourselves… it was involved! I love the Whole Foods deli.
Maybe a 15-20 minute commute? The husband works about 3 miles from where I’ll be working, so we can commute together.
Karen says
NICE! Did you brine it in a cooler? I’ve never tried it myself but that’s what a friend of mine usually does.
A 20-minute commute is a really, really great. Seriously. And that’s excellent that you both can carpool together (saves so much gas!).
OMG…the Whole Foods T-day deli sides are my jam. I went to town on the mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing. Both Tabs and El Hub had a good ol’ time with the turkey. We also got a pecan pie from the bakery, but it was just ok. I’ve been eating it out of pure desperation, LOL.

Happy Thanksgiving Karen!
Karen says
Happy Thanksgiving, Gio!
Martha Nelson says
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! and Christmas is getting close!
Karen says
Hi Martha,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you’re having a nice day so far. Are you hosting this year?
Alice Ann says
Happy Thanksgiving Karen! Thank you for a lovely little corner of the internet! Happy Thanksgiving to all fellow readers!
Karen says
Hi Alice Ann,
Happy Thanksgiving to you too. Please give your your dog a big hug and kiss from me (and Tabs!). Where will you be celebrating Thanksgiving today? I can’t wait to eat our lil’ meal from Whole Foods…I’m all about the vegetable sides, man!
Kiss & Make-up says
Happy stuff-your-face day, Karen! 😀
I feel bad for all the turkeys though… I saw a horrible horrible video online the other day, about the way Thanksgiving turkeys are being treated and killed at some factory. The images are still stuck in my head, it was absolutely gruesome 🙁 Monstrous.
Anyway, I don’t want to be a party pooper, and Thanksgiving is about more than just turkey obviously 🙂 So Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Karen says
Yeah…that’s why I’m all about the sides. I think eventually I’ll end up being a full-time vegetarian.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I hope that you have a lovely day!
Kiss & Make-up says
I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 12 years now, and I can’t imagine ever eating meat again. I just do it out of love for animals (go animals woooooo!) and it’s my way of saying no to the horrible things that happen. I’m not the kind of vegetarian that goes around trying to ‘spread the word’ convincing others to ditch meat as well, though, because I think everyone has to make their own choices.
Karen says
That’s cool. I’m pretty sure that’s where I’ll end up; right now my schedule’s really packed and sometimes it’s just easier for me to have a little bit of seafood for the protein. How do you usually get your protein? Do you do the bean/corn combo?
Anne says
Happy thanksgiving to you Karen, thank you for many years of wonderful make up blogging. I enjoy and have more knowledge of make up thanks to you…
Karen says
Hi Anne,
Happy Thanksgiving to you! I’m so glad that I’ve been able to help you on your makeup journey. 🙂 Are you doing a special look today for the holiday? I’m going to keep it pretty simple and low-key since we’re spending a mellow day at home.
Gina says
As always, I have to say how much you inspire me. Usually in ways that have nothing to do with makeup. Your gorgeous smiling face, your honesty and your AMAZINELY positive attitude are fabulous qualities that make you YOU; it’s definitely the reason you have loyal and caring readers. It’s why i’ve been coming back since the day i discovered your blog “way back when” hehe. Happy Thanksgiving to you, El Hubs and Tabs!! <3 Gina
Karen says
Hi Gina,
Thank you for your friendship. One of these days we’ll get our chance to have our Starbucks date! What are you and the kitties doing for the holiday? Tabs sends his love!
Lori says
Thanks for that sweet Thanksgiving wish Karen!
I am grateful for you and the amazing TABS!!! and even El Hub! You’re a package deal that I’m happy to have in my life!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Lots of love to you all!! xo!!
Karen says
Hi Lori,
From one cat lady to another…Happy Thanksgiving! Your nephew, Tabs, is currently taking a nap downstairs. He and El Hub were up all night (those crazy insomniacs!) partying ’til the wee hours of the morning.
Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving down there in So Cal. Are you hosting this year?
Sunny says
Happy Thanksgiving, Karen! I had an early celebration this past weekend at an American girlfriend’s. We do this every year. When the Chinese New Year rolls around, it’s my turn to invite my friends over. That way we get to celebrate a lot of different holidays! It’s fun!
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! What was your favorite dish at your early celebration?
Laurinha says
Hi Karen,
Happy thanksgiving!
Thanks for sharing yr beauty expertise with us, with me! I love visiting/reading yr blog…
Karen says
Hi Laurinha,
Happy Thanksgiving to you too. 🙂 How’s your day going so far? I hope that you’re getting some time in to relax.
Kat says
Happy thanksgiving to you and your family Karen. I am thankful for finding your blog, I am an NC42 too so I rely on your swatches so much 🙂 Reading your blog is definitely a high point during my days at work, LOL.
Karen says
Hi Kat,
Woo hoo, NC42! 😀 I hope that you’re having a lovely Thanksgiving so far.
What kind of work do you do? Do you like your job?
Rachel P says
KAAREEENNNN we love youuuu!!!!! Tbh, I completely did my eyebrows up this Thanksgiving. Like, maybe the most voluminous I’ve ever done them. And they are rockin my life. Anyhow- I am completely on board with these crazy blog adventures and am so glad that I found your blog not so long ago (a couple months now, I guess)! Your posts are fabulous. You are fabulous. I am thankful for KAREN OF MBB this Thanksgiving (along with all the usual things- family, health, Sephora VIB status, etc… 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving to you, may your brows be as bountiful as your table and Tab’s tummy!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
You’re so sweet. 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving!
By the way…love me some big brows! What did you use to fill them in?
Oh, and speaking of a tabby tummy, Tabs currently has one filled with gravy.
Rachel P says
Lately I’ve been using the Mary Kay brow pencil in Brunette, but I am so ready to dive into the brow powder world. Pencils are all I’ve tried. I love the waxy texture and staying power. But my brow shape is okay- they just need filling in! I hear powder is great for that. And I’ve heard MAC Brun works great for brunettes, although I’m equally tempted to get a brow powder duo from whatever line is looking hot. So much to choose from… le sigh!
Elvira says
Happy Thanksgiving, Karen. You are wonderful, thank you for such a lovely post and thank you for your work that I appreciate so so much. Love from Spain!!
Karen says
Happy Thanksgiving, Elvira! I hope you had a good one. By the way, I have a soft spot for Spain; it’s where El Hub asked me to marry him!
Did you eat turkey today?
Elvira says
We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Spain, but it’s a tradition that I love. Oh! I didn’t know that you visited my beautiful Spain, where did you stay? Did you like it? If you come back, I recommend you to visit my hometown, Granada 🙂
Karen says
Yup, it was years ago. We were in the La Rioja region, and stayed near the town of Haro. We meant to go back on our five-year wedding anniversary, but that was two years ago, LOL! Hopefully we can make it back soon. We were actually thinking of going back sometime within the next couple of years to visit Barcelona…I want to go just so I can eat my way through the country again; I remember the food being really good.
If you ever come here to San Francisco let me know and I will be happy to give you recommendations of things to do! 😀
Susan says
Happy Tabby, er, Turkey Day, Karen! Thank you for giving your readers a reason to smile every day. Hugs to you, & extra gravy for that kitty model!
Karen says
Hi Susan,
Hugs back to you! Did you have a good holiday? Where did you spend it this year?
Musical says
Happy Thanksgiving, Karen, El Hub and Tabs! We had a great day here as well :).
Meow and mrrow :).
Karen says
Hi Musical!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too. Hope you had a wonderful day full of lots of food and fun. Tabs sends purrs and love. Your nephew was very happy because he got to eat gravy and turkey. 🙂
Lori says
I can’t believe that you remember me Karen! Considering how many readers you have!! YOU’RE AMAZING!!
No hosting duties for this crazy cat lady! Believe me, it’s the best for all concerned. 😉
On the kitty front we now have 3 crazy cats running around the house these days! Our latest addition is a 15 pounder!! We thought he was a big cat, but when I read that our darling cousin Tabs is 20 pounds I had to laugh!! I asked my husband if he could guess how much Tabs weighs, his guess was 18 lbs. He’s a big guy 😀 Lots of love from your kitty cousins Kidders, Oscar and Al in LA!
XO!!
Karen says
Hi Lori,
Of course I remember you! Glad to hear you got to chill on T-day…hosting is stressful (I did it last year). I’d rather just relax and have someone pass me some pie, LOL!
I’m incredibly jealous that you’re currently assisting three kitties. What are their personalities like?
Oh, and Tabs fluctuates between 18-20 pounds. During the holidays he tends to pack on a couple extra pounds, haha.
musical says
Love me some purrs from Tabster! Guess what, one of the highlights y’day was showing the Mr. “Sunday with Tabs the Cat” collection (the one you posted in 2012, bringing all his work in one place). :-D. Tabs has another fan ;). We enjoyed the day y’day, starting with the lovely sunrise!
I did some online shopping, stocking up on Kiehl’s essentials and got some stuff from Sephora (the “Better than sex” eye kit from Too faced and Stila Holiday kit (has a black liner, red liquid lipstick and kitten eyeshadow).
Hey, i need some advice-shimmery eyeshadows hate me (they me look tired, or so i feel-i think they emphasize dark circles and when i wear concealer, my face looks “flat”, for lack of better words), but i love me some shimmer (woodwinked, UD baked, i am looking at ye’ both). Any tips?
-xoxo
Karen says
Hey Musical,
Awww! I’ll let Tabs know that he has another fan club member. He’ll be pleased. 🙂
So, about shimmery shadows…I need a little more information. When you wear them, are you wearing a few different shades of shimmery shadows on your lids, or are you doing a single shade?
musical says
Aren’t you awesome, Karen! Thank you for replying, lovely lady!
I am just trying to wear a single shade. If it put something darker in the crease, may be that’ll help? But i am such a chicken when it comes to eyeshadows :P.
xoxo.
PS: You need to get Bliss “Vanilla Bergamot” in your life. It’s teh yumm!
Rica says
Happy Thanksgiving Karen, El Hub and Tabs! I hope you all have a great day spending time with your family and gear up for some Black Friday craziness (if you’re gonna shop).

Karen says
Thank you, Rica! Hope you had a lovely holiday, too!
