Happy ? Thanksgiving, sweet friend. I just wanted to say hi and wish you a wonderful day.
I know you’re probably busy contemplating a piece of pecan pie (I’m 100% in support of that), but…
I want to try something today that I saw my friend Toya Renee do on Facebook. She’s such a joy to follow (you can find her here on Instagram and Twitter). She did a fun thing, and I want to try it here on MBB because I’m hoping — fingers crossed! — it’ll spread some T-day ? joy.
Here’s what you do
Leave a comment below, and I’ll write you a positive, loving and encouraging comment back. I’m hoping that my words will make you feel a little more loved today.
Thank you for being you!
This little corner of the Internet is just a little corner, but it’s a cozy corner thanks to you.
This year I’m thankful for many things — the big things like health, family and a roof over my head — but I’ve always been thankful for you.
Thank you, Kim, for always making me laugh. I always look forward to hearing from you and hearing about your twin boys. I feel like I’m their long-lost crazy aunt in California.
Jane! It’s been so much fun talking about makeup with you (neutral eyeshadows 4 life), and I look forward to the day Connor gives me (even more) gray hair when she learns how to drive (does Zack have his license yet?).
Chelsea, how long have we been chatting? It has to have been at least four or five years. Thanks for sharing your life with me all this time. Because of you, I now want to take circus classes!
Rachel R.! You’re such a sweet and wonderful mom. Thanks for always having a kind word to say. I admire you, and I love your bold makeup looks.
Sweet Efrain, you’re the little cousin I wish could dote on. Thanks for all of your emails and kind check-ins when I’ve felt blue or overwhelmed.
And thank YOU, dear reader, for always brightening ? my days. I’m eternally grateful for your company. Without you, my life wouldn’t be anywhere near as ?? colorful, ? happy or fun.
Have a wonderful rest of your day, and I hope to see you in the comments soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful that my boyfriend and I have not one, but two places to eat today! (Just in case we don’t get enough the first time!) I’m also thankful for my cat and he is thankful that he got to eat Fancy Feast today!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
You’re so friendly and outgoing, and it’s clear that you looooove the kittehs and MAC (two things near and dear to my heart). You’re fun to chat with and easy to talk to, and when I check the comments to see who’s stopped by seeing your name brings a smile to my face!
P.S. Have you had the first meal of the day yet?!
Jules says
Happy Thanksgiving, Karen! Although we don’t celebrate it in Brazil and I’m not a habitual commenter, I wanted to say my thanks for this cozy corner of the internet you’ve created. I’ve been following MBB since before I went to college (and as I was getting into makeup), and, eight years later (wow!), I wanted to thank you for being such a positive influence. It’s not just about your gorgeous makeup looks and awesome beauty tips. Your musings about life, self-compassion and embracing ourselves as we truly are have influenced me very much and I know for a fact that I am a more confident, forgiving (including of myself) young woman because of you. Connor Clare is lucky to have you as a mom and to grow up in a world shaped by bad@ss woman such as yourself.
Have a great one, and please eat lots of delicious T-day food for me (can we start importing cranberry sauce to Brazil, for realz??). Sending you and your family my very best.
Karen says
Hi Jules,
You are a sweet, thoughtful and compassionate woman. Your caring comments (I can’t believe you first started visiting here back in 2011!) always bring a smile to my face — especially on the posts where big life changes happened. I wanna hug you not just for your kindness, but for your ability to write a perfectly punctuated paragraph. Seriously, though! You know your way around a hyphen, girl!
Jules says
Karen, you just brought the goofiest smile to my face. Punctuation nerds of the world, unite! 🙂
Karen says
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Jules!
BB says
Hi Karen,
Happy Thanksgiving to you and little Connor Claire! I have been reading your blog for about 2 years now, ever since I was 17, and it has helped me get information on what products will and will not work for my sensitive and acne prone skin as a teenager (ugh I hope it goes away as I get older. The struggle of acne is real). I love your chill and positive attitude and writing style. Thanks for being a wonderful reading niche in my life, and providing some amazingly in depth reviews on a broad variety of different products, you have my sincerest of thanks 🙂
Karen says
Hi BB,
What a sweet young woman you are. I’m sure everyone in your life is touched by your bright and beautiful light!
Janet Shepherd says
Happy Thanksgiving from Melbourne! Ok, we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here of course, but I hope you have a lovely day surrounded by family and yummy food!
Karen says
Hi Janet,
You’re an *amazing* mom! You’ve handled your first year of motherhood with so much grace. You’re doing great!
Sissi says
Happy Thanksgiving dear Karen! You are so thoughtful and kind! And I’m always happy to visit your beauty corner here. I love that we are the same age and I just adore your “real-ness” and how funny you are! In fact: your blog is the only (beauty-) blog I’m currently reading and I’m thankful that you make makeup “fun to read”. Here’s to 10 more years of http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com !!!
Karen says
Hi Sissi,
Bubbly, cheerful and sweet — you’re so much fun to hang out with. Your smile is infectious! Your beautiful pictures on your blog always inspire me. 🙂
Sissi says
Awww! How sweet of you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Karen says
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Everything went off without a hitch! Now I finally get to sit around. Been buzzing like a bee all day! How was yours?
Sissi says
I’m glad everything went well, Karen! Ours was wonderful too! Friends invited us. They had so much food! I’m still full lol! And we played “Phase 10”. Great night and thankful for good friends!
Colleen says
What an absolutely lovely idea! You have such a sweet, generous spirit. Happy Thanksgiving to you, EL Hub, Connor Clair, and Tabs. I hope you have a day filled with family, fun, and great food.
Syah says
Happy Thanksgiving Karen! Thank you for all the work you put into connecting makeup with self-love, fun and community care. Thank you for repping the South East Asian skin tones out here. Thank you for sharing your witty sense of humor with us!
love from Syah!
Karen says
Hi Syah,
What an accomplishment it is to have written and edited your own book. I am beyond proud of your hard work and dedication!
Suzanne C says
What a sweet idea! I’m thankful today for this little corner of the internet to talk makeup, beauty, and life in general. Thank you for making sending me emails every day to make me smile (and make me go put yet more things in my Sephora cart, lol). 😉 Have a great day!
Karen says
Hi Suzanne,
You’re thoughtful and smart; I love that we can chat about lipstick in one moment and then CRISPR developments and books in another. Your girls are so lucky to have a loving, intelligent hero to look up to.
kellly says
Well, I hope you can find yourself a Nesco roaster because if it’s anything like mine, it’s totally magic. I’m sitting here now suffering a turkey overdose and need to conserve my energy to digest my food before I start the cutting, packing up, putting things into plastic bins and then trying to jam all the leftovers into my fridge.
I love reading your blog because it not only reviews products, it’s clever and funny and you put such great photos up. Sometimes they’re serious like todays (you look great, btw) and sometimes you have a funny expression and it’s so much fun to see what you have to say about the products. Connor Claire is an absolute doll and looks so much like you already. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and thank you for showing up in my in-box every day with something educational, beautiful, cute and funny.
Karen says
Hi Kellly,
You’re so fun to hang out with here in the comments! When I chat with you, it feels like hanging out with a girlfriend who gets all my jokes. It’s fun talking to you about cooking, makeup, pets and life. You’re a great friend! 🙂
Jan says
I don’t comment very often, but I read all your blogs. Love learning about new and not so new products along with reading about the adventures of Tabs and Connor Claire. You give great product reviews and handy tips for improving my makeup application.
Hope you are having a great Thanksgiving!
Karen says
Hi Jan,
Your gentle nature comes through in all your comments — a thoughtful, loving and kind person! I hope you’re always surrounding by people who are just as sweet as you.
Chelsea says
Karen! We’ve been chatting since at least 2011, because I remember discussing Cannes with you! I’m thankful for your presence in my life 🙂 Totally take all the circus classes. The one I go to is just such a supportive environment, everyone rooting for each other.
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
The feistiest redhead I know! Your upbeat presence always brings some cheer to my day. You’re a devoted and loving wife and fur-baby mom. Everyone in your life is lucky to know you.
Shannon says
Happy Thanksgiving, dear Karen! So thankful for you, your beautiful writing, and that you share your family (Tabs + Connor Claire) with us. I feel like an auntie all the way out in NYC 🙂
Hope you had some delish pecan pie – I stuffed my face at a local brewery with crazy-tasty food made by a few old friends and a few new ones! I brought my classic marbled pumpkin cheesecake, per usual. All the noms. Sending hugs to you on this day of thanks!
Karen says
Hi Shannon,
I’m in awe of your singing and songwriting talents. The way you perform and create songs is so fearless! I just know that one day you’re gonna strike it big, and I’m going to get to say that I knew you waaaay back when, back when the kitty song was a mere ode to Tabs. 😉
Mikayla says
Happy Thanksgiving, Karen 🙂
I know I don’t interact with you as much as I used to, but I have to tell you I am still grateful for the friendship you showed me 7 or 8 years ago. You were someone I was able to keep a connection with as I suffered through depression. Your kindness was so important to me during that rough period of my life that I wore Evo Devo during my wedding day 🙂 thank you for being a constant in my life, who feels like a sister, because I read your words every day 🙂
Karen says
Hi Mikayla,
You’re a strong, vibrant and smart woman. Some people can’t get past the hard stuff, but you did, and you made it through to the other side. I am thankful for everyone I’ve met through MBB, but I’m especially thankful for good friends who are sweet and supportive like you. I hope that we someday get to meet in real life!
Lisa says
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for you tips, your humor, your sharing, and teaching me sometimes it’s the the makeup that stinks, not me. ?
Karen says
Hi Lisa,
My sweet, supportive, curly-haired buddy! You’re always there with encouraging words that lift me up (I especially appreciate the kind comments with the baby). You’re a wonderful mom and a good friend. 🙂
Jane says
I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving feast. I was so honored to be included in your list of thankfulnes. I am thankful to be a part of your blog as well. It is truly so much fun.
Zack has his permit now and gets his license in March 2018. He can only drive with at least one licensed driver and one friend. Once he gets his license, I believe he can still only drive with one other person and has a curfew of 11:00 PM. My advice to you would be to just take your time. It does raise the anxiety level.
Be well!
Karen says
Hi Jane,
You’re a great friend, and you’ve taught me a lot about motherhood. Your smile is kind and you’re absolutely beautiful, inside and out!
Katie says
I’m hoping everyone had a good Thanksgiving! I’ve been enjoying having a few days off, sleeping in late, and eating leftover pie. This year I am thankful for my friends and the unconditional love that they’ve given me.
TravelingBlush says
Happy thanksgiving from Indonesia! I would give anything for a plate of T-dinner, the work!
Btw, I just found out thatnAriane closed her blog (Glitter Geek). So sad.
